Food & Fashion for the Fabulous The best brands are the ones that are easily recognized and remembered. Nowhere is this more evident than in the food and fashion industries as they often converge. In today’s culture we care about what we eat as well as caring about what we wear. There are so many choices, some healthy and some not so. It’s the same with fashion, there are some attractive brands as well as some outrageous ones. Quite a few fashion designers go for the shock factor in their designs hoping to make an impact. With food, it’s quite different. You don’t want your brand to be about the shock factor. But then you also don’t want it to be forgettable or bland. If there is one thing common, it’s the desirability factor. Food and Fashion seek to be desirable in the eyes of the customer. Who likes to eat food that looks drab and weird even if it smells good and tastes good? Fast fashion, like fast food, seeks to satisfy the customer’s penchant for wanting everything right this very minute. In case you’re not familiar with the term fast fashion, it is used to express designs that move from the catwalk quickly to become the current fashion trend. In other words, you don’t have to wait a whole season before you can see those designs on the street worn by ordinary people. Unfortunately, like fast food, fast fashion isn’t often good for the consumer or the environment.

Instead of something that lasts forever, fast fashion’s goal is to be fast, cheap and disposable. Ever notice how the clothes you buy today tend to wear out faster than before? As with fast food or any kind of food for that matter, you can only microwave it so many times before it loses its appeal and taste. Food and fashion both tend to produce a lot of waste and when it comes to your waist, both food and fashion have an effect. While it’s tempting to buy cheap but fashionable clothes as well as eat fast food for their convenience, it’s important to note that fashion trends may fade but style will always remain. The same thing goes for food. Fast food may satiate your appetite for a few hours but food that really benefits you is food that is prepared well with the right and healthy ingredients. As we approach the festive holiday season, it is equally important to maintain a balance that will keep us healthy and stylish. Chef Amanda Ann Hillmann prepared a 12 dish feast for the coming Christmas celebration that will surely satisfy your family’s cravings. In the final analysis, as with food, simplicity in both food and fashion is the key. Nowhere is this more evident in the 3 simply fashionable models we feature in our year end issue. Lana, Amanda, and Carly are the epitome of beauty and style. Merry Christmas!
