New Year Goals By Anne Mitchell
It’s a New Year and everyone is stating via Social Media about the greatness they are soon to accomplish with the reset of the calendar. Get ready to be bombarded by every cliché New Year’s phrase in the book. It’s easy to be jaded in the light of the social media frenzy. Yet, still we hear that voice within us say … what if … what if a few small changes really had the capacity to transform your dreams and career. I am a goal setter. I believe what we direct our focus on and create a plan for is achievable. It’s actually my Talent who have transformed me into a believer of goal planning. The most successful of Talent are those who set a series of obtainable goals that build on top of one another then never turn around in their pursuit of them. Start with the dream. We live in a world that sets limits on dreams, but what would you accomplish in the world of fashion if there were no limits, no doubts, no hesitations, and no little voices inside your head telling you to get real. Create a Plan. Find your step 1. If you are sewing a dress, you do not just stare at the fabric and expect it to magically become a couture gown. You start with the drawing of what you want. Find step 1 then DO IT. That gown must begin with a budget, then the search for the fabric, and once you have the pieces you begin the work. You create a pattern. Your goals need to be broken down into the steps. Then you need to go and complete them! If you have ever created your own pattern, you know that it is your map. A pattern has no value as a drawing. It’s when you begin to cut into the fabric and build what you want that you move closer to your dress.
created your own pattern you come to realize that it adjusts as the dress takes shape and becomes reality. So, too, must your goals and plan make adjustments to be brought to completion. Things don’t always go as planned. Cuts in the fabric can be made in error. A designer who is willing to find a Plan B, C, and keep going will succeed. Find your team. My most successful Talent sends me a list each year of what they will accomplish. Their goals become mine. To achieve a goal, you need a team of people who believe you can accomplish it and will rally around you on the days you succumb to doubt. Find those who share your passion, mentors, friends, or a social media group, that will support you in your dreams and hold you to them. Accountability is as important as a plan. This team needs to be made of those who don’t stand by you no matter what, but those who drive and push you. Set mini-goals along the way and celebrate them. I have bottles of champagne in my office that are painted with chalkboard paint. They sit where others can see them. When the goal written on them is accomplished, we celebrate and pop the cork! Find a ceremonious way to celebrate your hard work along the way. This New Year, I hope you dream bigger and accomplish beyond your expectations. Take a deep breathe and allow yourself to wonder who could you be in just one year if you got out of your own way.
Make adjustments as needed. If you have ever wtfezine.com 33 WTF

content that will have greater impact in our target
2014 marked the year when we surpassed our goals
audience – the models, photographers, and hair and
for the year – that of reaching at least one million
make up artists. We want each issue to be a resource
people. By year’s end we had exceeded that goal by
for these groups of people especially as it relates to
over five hundred thousand. Those amazing numbers
pursuing these as career choices. It won’t be easy but
wouldn’t have been possible without you – our readers
we’re certainly up for the challenge and we know it
continued support and patronage. And we hope that
will be worth it. At times we will stumble and fall and
we can, with your help, reach the three million mark
probably not hit the mark but that won’t stop us from
by the end of 2015. Of course compared to the more
trying to hit the target and we will hit our targets much
established magazines and brands, 1.5M amounts to
like we did for 2014. Join us then in promoting these
mere pennies. Nevertheless, reaching that many people
talented people who have a passion for the fashion
in such a short span of time seems like an incredible
industry. For this year, we will be looking for and
journey. Every single issue we put out is important
featuring those connections that foster mutual growth
to us because that’s how we are able to connect with
and provide mutual benefit to all involved.
