Welcome Spring! Farewell Winter... The winters in the Inland Northwest are mild. The winters can be classified as mild when a total of less than twelve inches of snow is all you’ve shoveled from your driveway for the whole winter season!
So, I look forward to the arrival of spring! Spring is a time of renewal and new birth. A time when all the flowers start to bloom again and the trees start to regain their splendor with green leaves.
Having lived in the Inland Northwest, specifically Coeur d’Alene, Idaho which sits across the border from the Eastern Washington city of Spokane for a good part of 14 years, I can count the number of times when the winters weren’t mild. Those were the winters when you would shovel early in the morning, and if you’re lucky to be staying home that day, shovel around noon and right before going to bed at night and God forbid -- shovel out the snow berm that the snow plows dumped in front of your driveway.
But spring also signals the arrival of seasonal allergies. Which is probably why a lot of people prefer to skip over spring and move on to summer.
Yes, the winters in the Inland Northwest, for the most part, are mild but sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. Experiencing four seasons is definitely a plus when you live in this part of the United States. And just as in life, each season has its purpose. Winter reminds us to look forward to summer especially when we start to complain about the cold and the slippery ice. And believe me, I’ve had at least one incident where I found myself kissing the icy pavement this winter. I personally like white snow especially if its accompanied by sunny days. Winter also reminds us of new beginnings which are possible and inevitable because it doesn’t have to be winter all year long (even if it feels that way at times).
In terms of fashion, it’s really hard especially for women to decide what outfits they will be wearing because it can be cold one part of the day and then hot the next. So it is quite a challenge to plan for what to wear during these months. At least with winter, it’s easy to put on layers that match to make a fashion statement. It’s the transition periods that can become quite frustrating at times. A few years ago, we didn’t have much of a winter and the summer fires wrought havoc in several affected communities. Not only that, several businesses who were counting on the snow packs for their survival were sorely disappointed. This year, despite the seemingly endless winter months, it would be good to appreciate the fact that winter snow packs provide water in the mountain areas and prevent the drier than normal conditions that fuel forest fires during the summer. In this issue we look forward to saying goodbye to winter and welcoming spring! As always, every issue is packed with beautiful women of the Pacific Northwest. Enjoy the arrival of spring!

Shi-Taz An Adventure in Bohemian Luxury The woman of the west coast, especially after a winter this brutal, needs to be transported to white-sand beaches and aquamarine seas. She deserves to immerse herself in the culture of sun-drenched islands, where the fish comes directly out of sea and the fruit from the jungle. The air should kiss her skin and should smell, always, of flowers. She should be dressed in clothes that will make her feel joyously free to move, and to fit in seamlessly with her destination’s beach culture while making an inspired artistic statement. The woman who wears Shi-Taz authentic Balinese line of clothing is confident, but incredibly feminine.
