I am all about D.I.Y. home remedies. Mother Nature has some of the best solutions for all kinds of beauty-related issues. Honey has been used for centuries for its astringent and moisturizing properties. Use as a skin moisturizer: 1 part honey and 1 part olive oil. Olive oil is a wonderful natural moisturizer loaded with antioxidants and fatty acids. Smooth on a thin layer of it onto your skin before bed every night to rejuvenate your skin and prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. For a face or full body scrub: 1 part honey and 1 part brown sugar. Frustrated with acne and acne scars? Place 3 aspirin in the palm of your hand with a few drops of water to make a paste. You can use as a spot treatment, mask and/or scrub. The Aspirin will help with any inflammation.

My name is Brett Aman, I am a freelance Makeup Artist/Esthetician based out of Spokane, WA. I specialize in Beauty/Bridal to Editorial/Creative Fashion. My profession allows me to be creative as possible. Makeup is my ART, and I absolutely love what I do! The B-word as in BEAUTY! To create this look, first and for most, I always start with clean skin. Skin care is the most important part before applying makeup. Creating Alexandra's flawless look I started out with Epicuren's Eye Alive and CXC (vitamin C). Then airbrushed on her foundation. To enhance Alexandra's stunning features I contoured and highlighted, then applied blush to the apples of her cheeks. I wanted to create a sultry smokey eye, thus, I went for four different colors from bh Cosmetics neutral matte eyeshadow palette, black winged eyeliner, and of course false lashes! Last but not least, filling in lip's with Youngblood's Vixen lipstick and gloss to create a classic, chic red lip!!!

Egg whites will help with any redness, and fade acne scars. Use egg whites and lemon juice and apply as a mask for 15mins. And my favorite, Apply fresh squeezed orange juice to your face on a daily basis. This will help improve the texture of your skin as well as the skin tone. This fruit is rich in Vitamin C which enables our body to fight aging and it also acts as a good skin toner, especially for oily skin. If you're looking for a great skin care rather than using home remedies, I would recommend Epicuren Discovery.

Jerrold Louis Sobida Cosmetology student

The look I was channeling for Alex was vintage yet with a modern twist with curls. To achieve the look, I used 3 different product lines that my Cosmetology school (Glen Dow Academy) uses, GOLDWELL, KMS California, and BEDHEAD by TIGI. I started by using Goldwell's Sleek Perfection thermal spray to protect it from heat since I'm using hot roller sets. After the curls were achieved, I used After Party by Bedhead to tone down the frizzyness. For the voluptuous volume and flexible hold, i used Style Boost hairspray by KMS California. And for the finishing touch, I used Head Rush Shine mist by Bedhead for the shine.

Women should have at least the basic makeup items like foundation, blush and lip gloss or lipstick. Some girls, particularly those in their teens, are just starting to experiment with makeup and sometimes it can be difficult to perfect the application and use of a certain item. Here are some useful makeup tips and tricks that you can use for your daily makeup routine. These tips and tricks are for everyone who wants to increase their knowledge about makeup application and use. When expecting a long day, use makeup primer so your makeup can stay longer. If you have great complexion, you can opt not to prime your whole face and just use setting powder instead but you need to prime your eyes so your eye shadow can stay longer on your eyes. To get a more structured look, always contour and highlight!

MODEL FEATURE

grew up in a conservative family in Olympia, WA, my father was Air Force and we were stationed at McChord Air Force Base, he retired there and we stayed. Olympia is a fairly quiet and boring town; there were no fashion forward designers and certainly no modeling agencies. Since both of my parents were Air Traffic Controllers, my brother and I were looked after by a nanny (Denise) and she had previously worked as a nanny to the Nordstromâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s kids in Seattle. Denise would take us up to the store to shop; that is where I first became interested in the fashion industry and began to admire the beautiful models, wishing that I could look like that. In elementary/middle school I was made fun of by the boys for having red hair and being tall and skinny. Being 5' 8" and 98 lbs. in the 8th grade made it pretty hard to fly under the radar. I had a lot of friends, but had always wanted to be seen as something other than my label, 'the redhead.' Trying to make me feel better about how I looked, my mom and Denise would always say that they wished they had my height and beautiful red hair like me. I became ok with the fact in high school and moved on from caring so much what others thought and really focused on my sports, which consumed all of my time. 10

When I went to college at EWU, I had a coworker who was a photographer; many of you know John Austin, I had seen his work with models and asked him if we could shoot. He taught me a lot about the photo world, what to watch out for, what angles look good, GWCs (guys with cameras, not photographers), etc. Through networking I was contacted by different photographers wanting to help me get a portfolio started. I felt that I had found a place where it was encouraged to look and be unique, not like everyone else. It was really neat to see how different the fashion community team was from any sports team I had ever been on. Two years into it, I went to an audition at River Park Square, I met my agent PJ Treciak. I began doing runway through her company, PJ and Company Models, she has taught me so much and I am so grateful for her. I have been modeling for 5 years now and love it; I have met and worked with so many influential people, without the support of my parents (Ron and Linda), Dan Collins, Nick Crooks and all my photographer/ designer/MUA/stylist/model friends , I would have never had these opportunities.

he Miss Spokane Scholarship program and pageant has been an integral part of the Spokane area since 1912, 101 years! Miss Spokane is one of the official preliminary pageants of the Miss America Organization. Each year four title holders are selected and they participate in numerous local and civic events including the Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade, Junior Lilac Parade, St. Patrick's Day Parade, Family Fun Fair, the Marmot March and IHOP Free Pancake Day. They visit numerous schools and donate countless hours to local charities, all while representing Spokane in the finest light. Miss Spokane titleholders compete at Miss America state competitions, Teens in May and Miss in July of each year.

Miss Spokane's Outstanding Teen, Joy Davis chose the platform 'Bullying: Be Heard, Don't Be Hurt!' This is very personal issue for Joy because she experienced bullying first hand during the 7th grade. It affected her day to day life and her academic performance at school. Joy was a nervous wreck. She was harassed daily for having a full figure at such a young age. This was very hard for Joy because she was changing so fast and was not comfortable with her new figure yet. Joy put up with the bullying for a long time because she really did not know where to go to get help. Finally when girls wrote all over the bathroom walls about Joy an administrator came to her and she finally got help.

Hannah Cvancara is Miss Spokane 2013. Her Platform (Community Service Project) is 'Honoring their Sacrifice: Recognizing and Supporting our Disabled Veterans'. She works with the Wounded Warriors Project, an organization whose sole purpose is to 'honor and empower wounded warriors'. Hannah is an amputee and understands what it is like to deal with a physical challenge and how discouraging this can feel. Hannah writes: 'I am not a veteran of war. I did not lose my leg for the sake of others' protection. When you see a veteran in a wheelchair, with a patch over his eye, with burns, scars, or with missing limbs, remind yourself of who these people are and what they have done for you. These men and women are the ones who have given up their previous lifestyles for America's people贸people they don't even know themselves. Because of their sacrifice, disabled veterans are now faced with new challenges. They must often re-learn basic skills that most everyone takes for granted; learning to walk again, learning to drive again, learning how to brush their teeth, or learning how to pick up a little daughter again. The sacrifices that our disabled veterans have made only amplify the honor they deserve. I have been blessed by the experience I have had talking with veterans. I play piano for them, including old requested

There are 2.9 million disabled veterans in the U.S who need our attention and our encouragement. Do not let them lose heart in their new battle. To Quote Hannah 'Look at what our disabled military veterans have done for us. It remains my duty, my privilege, to return the favor, and as Miss Spokane 2013, I will have encouraged others to do the same.

The issue of bullying in schools is an ongoing problem. In December 2010, the State of Washington passed the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Policy and Procedure Act, but policy is only words on a paper unless it is known, understood and enforced. Joy contacted Assistant United States Attorney and Project Safe Childhood Coordinator for the Eastern District of Washington, Stephanie Lister, and explained her concern that the Spokane School District 81 website did not have easy access to that information and that she wanted to ensure that parents and teens could easily access information on bullying. As a result of Joy's call, Spokane Public Schools has significantly changed their website with respect to bullying and harassment. Now information on 'Bullying & Harassment' is prominently displayed in both the Parent and Student 'Toolbox' sections of the site.

As a result of Joy's contact and website suggestions to Ms. Lister, Joy was invited to present at an 'Internet Safety' event for teachers and administrators on Feb 6, 2012. The event provided training on Washington State requirements regarding bullying and harassment. The training was sponsored by the Northeast Washington ESD 101, which provides educational services to a 7-county region of Eastern Washington. The ESD serves 88,951 K-12 students from 265 public and 45 private schools in 59 public school districts in Washington State. Wanting to reach out to the students directly, Joy joined the Chase Youth Commission and is active in their group called Bully Busters. Bully Busters does outreach in the community and holds Anti-Bullying Rallies at community centers. She is scheduled to attend another Bully Buster function at NE Community Center on March 14th. As mentioned above we have four amazing titleholders who are passionate about making our community and the world a better place. Miss Inland Empire 2013, Kahlani Badeaux is all about volunteering! Her platform is "The Value of Volunteering." Kahlani states: "I am not here to tell people what they should and should not feel passionately about. It is subjective to each person due to his or her own life experiences. No two people have been through the same encounters so naturally we cannot all feel so inclined to help the same specific cause. But isn't that a good thing? What if, as a whole, we prioritized the same? Certain groups and organizations would die out. They would not have enough support or funding to succeed. As a public figure it is my duty to make sure that doesn't happen. There are important factors that I would like to make known to the public. There are three things that can help make a difference for many volunteer dependent organizations; time, money donations, and recruiting.' Kahlani would like to emphasize the importance of finding a volunteer activity that is important to you as an individual. She believes that it is not the action of what we do that is most valuable, but rather the love behind what we do that is important. As Miss inland Empire 2013, Kahlani will have the opportunity to volunteer for over 100 events and organizations in the greater Spokane area, truly living her personal platform.

Miss Inland Empire's Outstanding Teen 2013 is Aitanna Ferrez. Her Platform is "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall" Raising Awareness for Eating Disorders. Aitanna believes that no woman should feel inferior due to her appearance, and that is why she chose to support the Inland Northwest Collation on Eating Disorders (INCED). Aitanna knows that young women today are faced with many challenges; the majority of them based on their personal appearance and desire for social status. She has seen girls go to extreme lengths to imitate models, women on the cover of popular magazines, and any celebrity with a 'picture perfect' body. As Aitanna points out; 'The fact of the matter is even models are flawed, and it's their imperfections that make them who they are. Many teenagers today are ignorant of this fact and believe that there is only one size a girl can be, and that is a zero; when in fact zero is not a size, it is a number.' 95% of those affected with eating disorders are ages 12-25, an age range Aitanna is ideally suited to address. She is excited to partner with the Inland Northwest Coalition on Eating Disorders (INCED) Organization, whose mission is to unite Inland Northwest professionals and community members to provide education, prevention, treatment, and support for disordered eating. She has already spoken at the INCED Fashion Show 単 Be Comfortable in your Genes. She plans to continue speaking to peers and encouraging them that despite other's perceptions every person is created individually. Each of these young women works tirelessly for her personal service issue as well as for the National Miss America Platform, The Children's Miracle Network (CMN). During the year you will find the ladies at Spokane Shock games promoting Touchdowns for Kids, at local IHOP locations on free Pancake Day and pushing Blizzards at the local Dairy Queens on Blizzard day, and more, all to encourage donations to CMN. Then there are the local organizations that look to Miss Spokane for help with their annual events. Those organizations include; the Lilac Foundation for the Blind, the Wishing Star Foundation, Cancer Patient Care, the Inland Northwest Blood Center and the Guild School.

Haley Henricksen is a 20 year old from Eatonville, Washington. She is a Public Relations major at Gonzaga University. Haley is the Recipient of the Ignatian Leadership Scholarship from Gonzaga, a Public Relations Student Society of America Member, is on the Deans List and is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, Iota Rho the National Communication Honor Society. Haley serves as the Resident Assistant for Coughlin Hall's Service Floor and has been a Salvation Army Camp Counselor and an April's Angels Leader. Haley's Platform or Community service issue is Volunteerism: Connecting Young People With Opportunities. Her passion for volunteering shows; Haley has completed over 1,500 hours of volunteering. She was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award , earned a Varsity Letter in Community Service and was United Way of Pierce County's Youth of the Year.

Kate Uhling is a 14 year old eighth grader at Saint John Vianney Catholic School. Kate's goal is to become a Physician and Pilot for a Global Airline. Kate won The National Society of The Daughters of the American Revolution American History Essay contest in 2012. She is in Top of my Class academically, earned the Presidential Fitness Award and was Cheerleading Captain 2012. Kate's Platform or Community service issue is Breast Cancer Awareness. It is very personal for her because her mother is a 2 year survivor of breast cancer and as a family they face the fear that it may return. Kate's mom is her hero because through all the treatments and surgeries, she exhibited strength and courage that Kate admires. Kate wants to share the latest research, knowledge and even cures, but more than anything else, possible preventions with everyone! Her goal is to change the way young girls are making choices that may be increasing their odds of being diagnosed with breast cancer.

PLATFORM: THE BEAUTY WITHIN: SELF ESTEEM & CONFIDENCE IN YOUNG WOMEN

Andrea Muraoka is a 16 year old sophomore at Joel E. Ferris High School. Her goal is to become a Singer/Songwriter and a Novelist. Andrea has been on the honor role for the past several years along with taking honors classes all through middle school. As a freshman in high school, she took all sophomore classes and now as a sophomore she is taking all junior classes. Andrea directed her classes' eighth grade play, Twinderella. She is Fashion Club member and mentors first year students. Andrea takes Japanese and mentors first year students from the school's Japanese classes. Andrea has received numerous Student of the Month, Citizenship and Leadership Awards. At the National American Miss Pageant she received the Peace and Kindness Award. Andrea has competed in Spokane Kid's Got Talent, the Seattle Talent Search and Miss Spokane's Outstanding Teen. She created the costumes for the 2012 high school play -- You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Joel E. Ferris's annual fundraiser, Ham on Regal.

Andrea's Platform or Community service issue is The Beauty Within: Self-Esteem and Confidence in Young Women.Today's young women seem to lack confidence. Outside beauty is emphasized more and more as society creates a specific look as the "perfect" girl. Magazines, billboards, movies, and reality television project a false image of today's real girl. Clothing lines and fashion designers create clothing that fit one style of body; a style that is not the average girl. The "thin look" is projected as perfect; when in reality a perfect "look" doesn't exist. Many factors have driven our young ladies to this point of self-doubt such as bullying, harassment, the "perfect" celebrity image and today's media ideals.

How do you come up with ideas for your pieces? Well coming up with ideas isn't the hard part. It's creating them. I have paintings, drawing and designs in my head all day, I would even say they haunt me ha. I'm constantly inspired and collect ideas from pretty much anything around me. My illustrations are more just fun visual ideas, I feel I have to put to paper to just relax really. But I feel like I have yet to define my style and come up with something extremely conceptual I can cling to series after series. I'm still exploring.

What do you consider your most important art work to date and why do you consider this to be your most important work? Wow another toughie, my most important work to date would be a watercolor I made in fourth grade art class that my teacher secretly submitted to a statewide contest and I got second place I think it was the validation I needed to want to pursue art more, not just as homework. It's funny though it didn't really hit me until I was in high school, that I should pursue it.

What are your favorite themes or subject matter for your art? This one is tough I feel I don't have themes but more visual styles I like. For example in high school and early into college I never painted objects I painted abstracts, but after college I was really inspired by fashion illustration concepts and started painting subjects. And this last series well I had never painted animals so I just wanted to go for it and donate the money from the sales of them to WWF.

Tell us about your geeky side? Ha my geeky side hmm lets see, it pretty expansive. I love to research and constantly learn regardless of what the subject matter is, so I tend to collect massive amounts of useless knowledge lol. I'm also a designer by day so I'm a product and technology addict. But mostly I scour blogs in my spare moments to read up on CES, Health/Tech breakthroughs, new apps, fashion events, and see other people's amazing talent.

How has being geeky helped with your artistic side? Ohh it has enabled me to creative on a whole different level. Technology is insane and being software savvy has helped me to be able to bridge that gap. Not only can I paint and draw on paper but I have a Wacom tablet and can paint in photoshop from scratch or create vector graphics for items like T-shirts to Billboards. The possibilities are endless and being geeky lets me keep on that and have an easier learning curve than most.

A Fashion Wish

met Lauren, now age 13, almost a year ago. I was new at Wishing Star Foundation. Lauren has cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening illness. She was my first assignment. My job was to discover what her dreams were and to make one of those dreams come true. I was so excited the night I met her and listened to her heartfelt wishes. She shared her passion for drawing party and wedding dresses showing me a sketch book filled with unique dress designs. I was amazed at her talent. She said that she wished to make one of her drawings come to life. She also showed me her new iPhone and her love of social technology. Finally she admitted that she loved to read. I resolved to create a 'Fashion Wish.' With the approval of my supervisor, I set about to build as many relationships into the wish as possible. I believe in our mission of building healthy and supportive relationships around children suffering with lifethreatening illnesses. I also resolved to create an avenue into the world of fashion for her future. I sought out Ronnie Ryno from Glamarita, who agreed whole heartedly to join the adventure. At Lauren's surprise wish reveal, her family watched as she received a gently used sewing machine, a basket filled with notions, gift cards for fabric, and beginning sewing lessons. Her eyes lit up when she opened an iPAd complete with drawing applications. Her sewing instructor, Carrie Jarvis of The Top Stitch reported that Lauren is a "natural". In the fall, Wishing Star had a benefit breakfast where Lauren modeled her first sewing project, a turquoise cotton skirt that fit her perfectly.

Ronnie mentored Lauren's efforts for three months. During that time Lauren was able to meet many other local designers who encouraged her efforts. She was able to experience the fashion circle in Spokane that revolved around Ronnie. Lauren had chosen a difficult fabric and a design requiring a zipper. She spent many hours ripping. I loved stopping by at Glamarita to view the progress and watch the relationships blooming around Lauren. When the dress was finished, Ronnie orchestrated a photo shoot, complete with make-over. Lauren was pampered at Zen salon by Kenny Carlson and Brett Aman. Jason Castaneda with Platinum Limo transported Lauren and a handsome teen model, Anthony Mazzola to the Spokane Club for her first professional photo shoot. Photographer Eric Barro of Lake City Photography, with the assistance of Jack Dobson directed, posed and conducted the photo shoot at the historic Spokane Club Georgian Ballroom. Both of them posted on facebook -- "What an incredible experience!" and Ronnie shared with me that "Lauren has a special place in my heart." I will be watching over Lauren from a distance for many years as Wishing Star believes in the motto that "once a wish family, always a wish family." One day I'll say, "I knew Lauren when she was just starting out." I now am creating 36 unique wishes for 36 incredible children. The spring looks were inspired by Japanese street fashion while drawing a bit from the traditional Japanese attire as well. The three "casual-glam" outfits reflect the traditional attire more -- consisting of a satin red top with a white brocade high waist skirt which is a reflection of kimono brocade. The white cotton dress with a wide dragon print, open satin jacket is in the general form of a kimono but remade in a fashionable, everyday style. The swoop line, black satin floral top and wide leg maroon pants are a reflection of the hakama pants (wide leg pants traditionally worn by men). The three "casual" outfits are inspired by today's sweet Japanese looks with some inspiration from the Harajuku district of Tokyo. The looks are made of light, floral cottons to show the very feminine and delicate side of women's attire.

There are some things that are just TMI and we don't need to see it. Mistaking tights for leggings is one of them, especially when you are caught wearing them with a shorter top. If they are made of a nylon fabric they are not leggings, they are tights. And tights can be footless this is where confusion seems to reign. Leggings are made from fabrics such as cotton, velour, and brushed corduroy. They even make them in a stretchy jean fabric, and these are referred to as: jeggings. Joy is modeling a red and black polka dot to short tunic top with footless tights, black booties, and a red and black headband.

Joy is modeling tights now worn with a long gray and black plaid jumper with a sheer purple and gray long sleeved tee, a black belt and a purple headband. Instead try pairing a cute longish tunic top like this one shown with those favorite pair of tights. We think they are super stylish hip and fun. Tunics can be a girl's best friend, and there are many ways they can be worn. Try pairing them with all types of clothing.

IMHO there really were some decades where even though the look was thought of as trendy it was still all wrong, one of these was the 80's. Recently the movie "Rock of Ages" came out all it did was serve to prove out my theory. We are seeing a resurgence of this, one of these beloved items of this time was the raggedy jean cut off shorts. They are so threadbare at times it's hard to look at. Kahlani is modeling faded jean shorts with colored trimmed pockets, with a orange striped and length sleeve tee, red sandals and orange and red printed headband.

Shorts are all over for spring, in many different lengths, styles, and fabrics. They can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion or environment. There is no excuse to not embrace shorts as they are in so many lengths, you can be sure to find one that makes you feel comfortable.

How short is too short? How old should a lady be and still be able to sport the super short, pleated Catholic schoolgirl skirt primarily found in the junior's section? The Fashion Industry admits junior sizes are mostly made for juniors, meaning teens to early 20's This is because they are cut differently to fit a younger body, smaller in the hip area, larger in the waist area. These styles are usually very trendy. Kahlani is modeling a very short pleated skirt plaid skirt paired with a cami and a short sleeve unlined jacket and gray patent pumps.

This is where we take a look at fashion items which are trending. They are not necessarily accepted work attire or styles we have embraced yet, but some of these pairings or looks may very well change your thinking and the way you view things. In this section it is all about possibilities and how we might be able to incorporate these trends into our everyday wardrobes. Take a look and let us know what you think, do they work, is it their time, is it way before their time, is it something you'll never embrace? We want to know, are these looks, 'Not Safe for Work?' The first look is that of simply being creative and that is mixing patterns in the same color spectrum with each other. Below we have an example of how you can do this successfully. Get brave â&#x20AC;&#x201D; try pairing checks with a paisley, try putting a plaid with stripes. The next trend we are seeing everywhere, on runways, at events, is a super girlie look and one that has resurged from the decades of the 40's, 50's and 60's. And that is head or hair adornments. From the mod 60's comes the wide scarf type headband in many fun prints. In these sections you will see the models wearing many of these as a headband or using them as a scarf in their looks. But for those very special occasions why not try a look like one of these beautifully embellished 'fascinator' type of headdresses?

NSFW Another trend we are seeing resurge from the earlier decades of the 40's and 50's are sheer blouses. These are beautiful and so chic, but need to be showcased in the proper way to be acceptable mainstream. We see them for fun, paired with skinny jeans but worn with only a bra underneath. Are they an item which can be worn to work? And if so how would we style them so they are appropriate and add to our look rather than being a distraction? Here's our idea on how we might make them more work attire friendly, what do you think?

Another super fun trend we have seen all over the last couple years are animal prints, and we are seeing them in all types of clothing. They are all over the board, a blue leopard print, a red zebra print, and they can serve to make a HUGE statement. Is it a statement that is too outspoken, can we wear it to work, or is it simply too much for work? You tell us, does it take a brave person to sport this look or just the right pairings to make it work? We think there is a little animal in all of us it just might take some time for us to unleash the beast!

NSFW Peplums are back, they originated in the 40's in women's suits and they create a fun curve where there may not be one. They are seen flaring from the waist or bottoms of tops, from the hemline of jackets, and even on dresses all the way around the waist or simply a little flap at the hips. Are they making a statement that needs to be heard or are they simply a trend that will be here today and gone tomorrow?

There's a hot new look we are seeing coming down the runways for Spring and that is printed jeans or jeggings. You can find them in ankle length or a regular inseam. Resurged from the 60's and 70's we think they could be a trend that stays around for awhile. What do you think appropriate for work or not??

he B Word -- Nine years ago, the Dove corporation launched its Real Beauty campaign with advertisements featuring women of all ages and body types. This campaign sought to challenge the unrealistic beauty standards perpetrated by the media and emphasized that true beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

What is "real" beauty? We all know that beauty is universal but standards of beauty are often arbitrary and vary both from one culture to another and over time. These variations in ideals of beauty often reflect the roles women and men are expected to fulfill in a given society. In this issue we feature women of beauty. While they may be beautiful on the outside, their true beauty rests not in their mere physical presence but also in their spirits -- specifically their spirit of service. When I first got wind of the Miss Spokane Pageant, I was pleased with the very positive response that Cheri Moore granted us to photograph the event. I was born and raised in the Philippines and there is no shortage of beauty pageant patronage in the land of my birth. Filipinos pride themseles in having two former Miss Universe titleholders and four Miss International titleholders. Needless to say, the bevy of beautiful women impressed me not only with their physical beauty but also with their talent, charm and wit and most of all their commitment to serving their community. This group of young women are no different. In fact when the idea of this magazine first came up, it was a no-brainer to feature Miss Spokane and her lovely court for the Beauty issue. In the past, geeky women were stuck in stereotypes that had them being perceived as looking like this -- hair in a pony-tail, wide rim glasses, freckly faced and dressed in clothing that would make you shake your heads. Flash forward to the twenty first century and we now have a totally different picture of geeky women. What once was considered SMH is now considered NSFW. These lovely women walk among us and we often don't recognize them. The current stereotype of geeky women has now been transformed to those who, while technology mavens, are chic and fashionable. They are not only smart but they know how to dress smart. These women not only manage to look good and feel good, they also do it with style and break through the stereotypes of beauty that we often latch on to because that's what media would have us believe is the ideal standard of beauty. Stephanie Guerra is a stereotype breaker. She's an artist, a computer geek and a fashion savvy woman all rolled into one talented individual. Find out all about her art and her passion for fashion. Beauty is indeed more than skin deep because as you will see truly beautiful people lead in serving others. This is exemplified by the Miss Spokane Scholarship Organization which sponsors the Miss Spokane and Miss Inland Empire Pageant. We feature these lovely young women whose community service platforms benefit the local community. And finally, we are excited to showcase the work of Sara Xaviel Story who shot our fashion editorial with Jordan Collins as she gives us a glimpse of her interpretation of Beauty and the Geek.
