DCON 2022 DCON REFLECTION

I think the most crucial thing in planning DCON was all the support from the rest of the board. Especially with having to make the switch from an in-person to virtual format, there were so many things to consider in the transition: the Friday night activities, the service project, the fundraiser, even the wording for the main sessions. I know it would have been impossible to accomplish on my own, and everyone was so fantastic about offering their help. Anton, the assistant events chair, is one of my close friends, and both of us go to St. Norbert College. It was so easy to just ask Anton for help or do a quick planning session at lunch. He did so much to make sure convention ran smoothly, and I was so impressed with his energy the whole time! Also, I had so much help from Kiara with promoting DCON–I was impressed by how high our virtual attendance was and how engaged our attendees were, and I think a huge part of that was Kiara’s tireless promotion of DCON over our social media platforms. Our LTGs also did a beautiful job of promoting to the clubs in their divisions! Brooke planned out the trivia for Friday night, even coming up with the logistics of how to make that work over Zoom. I thought it was such a fun bonding opportunity! It was so fun for me to see how most of our attendees were more than happy to stick around for an extra 30 minutes to finish up trivia because they were so engaged. Behind the scenes, Noah did so much work to make sure House of Delegates ran well, and it is a testament to his dedication that we got through right on schedule and with hardly any hiccups. Everyone worked so hard on their workshops, and I loved being able to see them ahead of time at runthroughs! When I couldn’t cover a run-through, Annika and Anton were willing to step in. Joanna put together club videos for the opening session and made them so much fun. Gavin handled so much of the fundraiser logistics and was such a fantastic resource. And the admins were always so helpful, giving advice and handling crises. I was so grateful for their kind words of reassurance during DCON. Honestly, I can’t sing the praises of my fellow board members enough–they were absolutely fantastic! There was so much other work they did behind the scenes to put together our convention, it would be impossible to list it all! They all put so much effort into making DCON a success, and I know I couldn’t have done it without them. --District Convention Chair-Olivia Groenewold

DCON 2022 DCON REFLECTION I am not sure if I would have had the courage to take on the position of Assistant Events Chair without the support of Olivia and the rest of the board. As Olivia stated above, District Convention was a team effort that necessitated everyone contributing whatever they could to make the final product as good as it was. And I want to make it absolutely clear: DCON was very, very good. Personally, I was struck by how aptly the convention theme, chosen nearly a year ago without any sense of what the world would look like in mid-March of 2022, fit with our adapted format. As sad as I was to not have convention inperson, there was something novel about having a spacedthemed event over Zoom. It almost added to the ambience! Each member was beaming in from their own individual starships as technology brought us together from distant planets to serve our community and learn from each other. The Wisconsin-Upper Michigan 2022 District Convention represented our district and CKI at its best. Everyone was kind, open, and excited to be there, even if we were virtual. There was obvious care from those who attended for the mission and tenets of Circle K International. The love of service was flowing out of my laptop screen all weekend long. Our district created a memorable shared experience that will sustain us into the next year of service, leadership and fellowship and guide our fleet to new galaxies of community impact and dedication to the realization of humanity’s fullest potential. --Assistant Events Chair-Anton Maslowski

WUM CKI 2021-2022 District Board

09

Farewell Messages from the Board Annika Hentz - District Governor Thank you all for allowing me to serve as your District Governor. I have found incredible growth both personally and professionally. I would also like to thank all of our District Board and District Administrators for your uplifting attitude, support, and passion for CKI. I can’t wait to take on the next step of my life with Kiwanis by my side. Brooke Steeno - District Secretary I am so grateful to have served WUM as the District Secretary for two terms. Like last term, this past year I had the pleasure of working with a group of dedicated CKI club secretaries, who turned in completed and detailed MRFs on time. On a personal note, CKI has shaped my career goals, introduced me to wonderfully kind people, and reminded me why I continue to donate my time to helping others. In fact, I value my time with CKI so much that I am happy to announce my continuation with the organization in graduate school–most likely in the Indiana District. Thank you all for putting the “family” in Kiwanis and making CKI the best club to join on every campus.

Gavin Lloyd - District Treasurer Hello! Thank you all for attending DCON (and reading the program!) This year has been filled with ups and downs but we made it through. WUM is as strong as ever, even with all the curveballs coming at us this year. I want to thank each and every one of our wonderful members for making my time here in Circle K special. This has been one of the best experiences of my life and it's a little sad to have it come to an end. I hope you all have a good weekend and I am very excited to see what WUM can do in the future!

WUM CKI 2021-2022 District Board Farewell Messages from the Board Kiara Miller - District Bulletin Editor I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to serve WUM as the District Bulletin Editor for the last year and a half. This year has been a crazy one but we were still able to be successful. Reflecting back at the last year, I am so very happy that I grabbed the opportunity of being on the board when it was present. It has led to many lifetime friendships, life lessons, and many experiences that I wouldn’t of had before. CKI has helped shaped my life. My CKI chapter of life is closing so soon, that I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who has been apart of it. I can’t wait to see where the love for volunteering takes me next. So, Thank you for being apart of my experience.

Alexander Vorphal - Capital LTG

Douglas Arnett-Arnold -Chippewa & Superior LTG I am proud to have served as your Superior and Acting Chippewa Lieutenant Governor for this last year. I am very pleased to see all the wonderful things that we were able to do in these weird times. To all of those graduating, thank you for all that you have done to make Circle K a “WUM”derful place. To all, I hope that we all have had some good memories and made some friends. I cannot wait to see what we do next year as a “WUM”derful team.

I am truly grateful to have this chance to connect with you all and build strong relationships. I will forever cherish the memories, the lessons, and the friendship I’ve made in my four years in Circle K. Huge shoutout to every single club member, executive board members, district board members, faculty and Kiwanis advisors, and the district admins! Thank you so much for making this CKI year a productive one.

Shannon Gegare - Metro-Southeast LTG In a year full of unexpected challenges and setbacks, I want to thank everyone in WUM for making it that much brighter. In my freshman year, Circle K is where I first felt like I belonged. I owe so much to this organization and I know that it will continue to do amazing things. Thank you for all of the opportunities for growth and it has been truly wonderful getting to know all of you.

Noah Larscheid - Awards, Regulation, & History Chair Hello and thank you WUM! I have had the privilege of being your Awards, Regulations and History Chair for the past year. I thoroughly enjoyed getting more involved with CKI as this is just my second year with the organization. I gained a lot of new friends, met a lot of new faces, and had a bunch of new experiences. Thank you!
