Governor’s Welcome Letter Hello WUM! Welcome back to school! The start of school means one thing: Circle K! I am very excited because fall is the time when there are the most activities going on. Clubs will be busy recruiting members, welcoming returning members, and doing some great service! On top of that, there are three district events that will be happening in the coming months: Membership Awareness Conference (MAC), Kiwanis Family Service Day (KFSD), and Kiwanis Family Hockey Night (KFHN). These events will help you gain a better understanding of the organization and what we do. Whether you’ve been in the Kiwanis Family your whole life or your roommate bullied you to go the first Circle K meeting, you will fit in this organization so well! Circle K is more than a service organization. There are many opportunities to help you grow as a leader and make friends in your club and throughout the district. When I joined Circle K in a few years ago I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Today, I have the honor to lead our WUMderful district, and I have friends throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. I cannot picture what my life would be without this organization. Circle K has truly impacted my life for the better, and I believe it will for anyone. No matter what your background is, Circle K has a place for you! If you have questions or just want to talk, feel free to contact me or add me on Facebook! My email is fiveyang01@gmail.com and my phone number is 920.277.0904. I cannot wait to get to see in the coming months! Have a great semester, and I look forward to seeing what the district, clubs, and members will accomplish this year! Yours truly,
Five Yang District Governor, 2015-16 Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Circle K District Email: fiveyang01@gmail.com Phone: 920.277.0904
What is Circle K International aka CKI?
ďƒą ďƒą ďƒą
CKI is a branch of the Kiwanis family; it is the sister branch to Key Club, which is the high school branch of the Kiwanis Family. At the college level, Circle K is the largest international service organization. It is also student led and self-governing, which means that our members hold leadership positions, we elect our own officers, run our own meetings, and manage what activities/service we do. There are Circle K clubs across the globe in 17 nations, with thousands of members.
You are a part of a larger picture - Wisconsin-Upper Michigan (WUM) Circle K! This district, as we call it, consists of over 18 clubs at different campuses. Together, we do service and have events at a larger level. These include weekend events at a camp, baseball games, service days, and a District Convention. There are so many opportunities to meet other students and give back to the community!

Racheile Ricklefs, International President Indiana University Library Science (Masters Degree), Class of 2017 Why you love CKI: I love CKI because it has given me many amazing opportunities to grow as an individual, opportunities to impact the community, and I have meet some of the best people I know.
Favorite service project: Give Kids the World What you can do for the members: I am here for the members, so if they need something I will try my best to help them. I am always willing to chat, so if someone needs anything all they need to do is ask. You can contact me via social media, call or text me at 561.602.6270, or send me an email at racheilericklefs@gmail.com Inspiration from Racheile: “No matter where you go, there you are.”—Confucius “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”—Jane Goodall “It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”—Leonardo da Vinci
Emily Bagwell, Subregion C International Trustee Northwood University, DeVos Graduate School Business Administration (Masters Degree), Class of 2016 Why you love CKI: I love Circle K because not only are our members some of the nicest, most fun people in the entire world, but I am also inspired by being in an organization filled with thousands of other students who take time from their busy schedules of work, classes, internships, and other obligations to give back to the community through service. Favorite service project: Trick or Treat for UNICEF What you can do for the members: It is my job to represent your district to the best of my ability, so if you ever have anything you are curious about within CKI or would like to possibly see changed, feel free to let me or Five know and I will be happy to mention it at one of our International Board meetings. As well, I hope to just be a source of information throughout this year, so make sure to subscribe to the Subregion C Newsletter and check out our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ckisubc) to stay up to date on everything going on within Circle K. Inspiration from Emily: "Love life and life will love you back"

Jessica Davis, International Vice President Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Public Affairs in Policy Analysis & Public Management (Masters Degree), Class of 2017 Why you love CKI: CKI has given me experiences that I never would have been able to have. From the friends that I have made around the world, many opportunities to assist my community in areas of need, and to develop my leadership. I can honestly say that my entire college wouldn't have been the same without CKI. I dropped out of college after my first year. Partly because I didn't have that community in an organization on campus. However, the second time around I was able to find CKI, and I haven't really looked back since. I love that almost any club that you go to or any member that you meet is instantly your best friend for years. Members in this organization are just different. They are truly some of the most amazing, caring, and passionate people I know. Favorite Service Project: This is always so hard for me, because each one is special in its own right. However, I enjoy working with projects that deal with hunger and homelessness issues. I think that very often we take for granted our positions as college students. We say that we are poor or we are always looking for that event with the free food, because we are "starving". However, do we truly know the strength of those words? For some individuals this is an every day battle. And it is a battle that shouldn't have to be fought either. Here in Indianapolis 1 in 3 children go to bed hungry on any given night. So there is a great need to work with this social issue, and at the end of the day that is what makes it my favorite: to know that we have in some shape or form helped that child get access to food. What you can do for the members: As the International Vice President, it is my duty to serve as the voice of the organization. This is seen through my CKI Weekly publication, including bi-monthly updates from the international committees, working with Kiwanis staff/International Board Members/District Governors to be aware of resources for clubs and districts, publish the quarterly International Board Report, and to just be a general resource for members to go to. I have had a lot of life experiences especially outside of CKI that make me a great listener and troubleshooter. I thrive on finding solutions to different situations and will always try to make time to help out. Inspiration from Jessica: "Far better it is to dare mighty things to win glorious triumphs even though checkered with failure than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt
