As I write this, the Cheese Market has just had it’s Grand Opening. King Richard took centre stage! The last 6 years of hard work by the committee, all volunteers by the way, has clearly paid off. The tiles are up along with information boards showing some of the local history. In the holiday flat above there is a book for all the people who paid for tiles – I’ll be sure to show James and Cariad Badham their names in black, calligraphy ink! Local Potter Pat Birks crafted the tiles, often I called in to her workshop whilst she was hard at work. Well done to all involved. Check out page 52 for their article and advert. May is our busiest month of the year in this area as we are hosting the International Hay Literature Festival, bringing visitors from far and wide and ushering out the locals to enjoy an event on their doorstep. I myself am yet to take a look at the programme but I’ll be sure to book some events over the Half Term for James, Cariad, Co and me to enjoy. We have got some exciting news to announce regarding our Car Boot Sales. Please do turn to page 36 to find out why we have had a change of heart. Some lovely new advertisers have joined us this month. See if you can spot them throughout this issue and show your support. Another member of our team has stepped up to do a food review.Turn to page 15 to see how Charlotte got on at The Bridge End Inn, Talgarth. Without giving too much away, Charlotte has volunteered to do others! If you run a local restaurant, pub, café or you produce something edible and would like one of our team members to come and do a review, please get in touch. Having a review in Wye Local is a good way to promote you to your local target audience. Once again the What’s On listings cover a large array of events – something for everyone. Enjoy, if the sun is shining I suggest a Pimms! Lisa Marie x

As I draw together my thoughts for this month’s Wye Local column, the lambs in the fields all around are enjoying the warm sun on their backs and the weather prospects for the start of the Easter weekend seem to be set fair. There has also been something of a buzz around town these past few weeks, with a steady increase in visitor numbers, which can only be positive for the local economy. I hope that this will be sustained as we head towards the summer. Some readers will know that I currently chair the National Assembly for Wales’ Petitions Committee - and in recent weeks we have received positive news on a number of fronts relating to the Committee’s work. Firstly, earlier in the month Prof Mark Drakeford AM, Minister for Health and Social Services, introduced a draft law in the field of public health. Amongst its recommendations is a proposal to require local authorities in Wales to maintain a network of public conveniences. This is a direct result of a petition on the subject that was presented to the Committee by Gwynedd County Councillor Louise Hughes, with the wholehearted backing of The Welsh Senate of Older People. Secondly, last week saw the opening of a new state of the art renal unit at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. Again, this was in response to a petition, which I received on behalf of the Committee back in 2011, from kidney patient and campaigner Robert Kendrick of New Tredegar. One of his fellow campaigners was the late and much missed Hubert Mytton of Westfields, Talgarth who was himself a regular dialysis patient at Prince Charles Hospital. In January 2012, alongside my Plaid Cymru Committee colleague Bethan Jenkins AM, I undertook a site visit to the existing renal unit, which was obviously substandard in several important respects. Both cases show the potential that the National Assembly’s Petitions process has to effect change

in communities right across our country, improving the local quality of life. It demonstrates how grassroots campaigners can make a genuine difference. I salute the efforts of those who initiated both petitions, showing just what progress can be achieved, even when it seems to be against the odds. I hope to see many of you around at community events in the coming weeks. The second annual Talgarth Walking Festival on the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend is a very exciting initiative and the culmination of a lot of commitment and hard work by the organizers. This involves collaboration with a range of businesses and local groups, all of them determined to build upon the foundations of last year’s success. Once again, we are at our best when we work together to achieve shared objectives. As I have commented previously, these days Talgarth’s glorious natural environment is being more fully appreciated and it is only right that our local economy should benefit directly from this, as we aim to make the town an even more attractive place for locals and visitors alike. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any feedback or issues of concern on 07703 112113 or by email: william.powell@wales. gov.uk Alternatively, you can come along to my next advice surgery on Friday, 9th May from 5:00pm at Talgarth Tourist Information & Resource Centre. Appointments are not essential – but advanced notice may be useful if the issues you wish to raise are complex. You can also pop into the TiRC to request a call from me on any issue which may be troubling you. Best wishes William

News from Glasbury Ward by Chris Davies Powys County Councillor for Glasbury Last month I reported on the Budget at County Hall, well this month there have been budgets to agree for our local schools. As a Governor of Clyro and Gwernyfed I have deep concerns following the decisions made at County Hall and will keep a close eye on all future developments. Many people will be delighted that Erwood Bridge reopened recently, three and a half months ahead of schedule. This closure caused enormous inconvenience to many people adding many miles to regular journeys. The recent wet weather caused a small landslip on the Cwmbach to Ffynnonn Gynnydd Road. I am able to report the road is now passable but the Council’s design team tell me that it will need to be closed in Mid-May, for approximately six weeks, for a full repair so please remember to find an alternative route. My family and I were delighted to attend several local events recently including a wonderful dinner organised by the Painscastle Village Hall Committee. This young team are keeping true community spirit

alive and work very hard to keep the centre of this beautiful valley so active. We have now had our share of Bingo, with two highly successful family events – one in Painscastle and the other in Hay School both helping raise much needed funds. Congratulations must also go to all the team at Black Mountain Activities in Three Cocks who held a fabulous charity day in aid of Usk House Cancer Centre in Brecon. On a wet Sunday afternoon, children ‘dragged’ their parents (including me) from miles around to an event that was great fun and was certainly not to be missed. As we move into May we can feel the anticipation building for some of the area’s annual highlights including The Hay Literary Festival and The Royal Welsh Spring Festival. I hope to see you all at these and at many other local events. Chris Contact me on any matter: 07855 752110 or cllr.chris.davies@powys.gov.uk

Gardening Column

Plant of the month: Pelargoniums Commonly referred to as Geraniums The favourite windowsill plant of cottage gardens and grown widely in all gardens in summer. It’s so well known that it is hardly necessary to describe the large, ball-shaped heads of florets in a range of whites, pinks and reds, some with attractive markings on the petals. Many have two-colour zoning on the leaves and there are also variegated varieties. Pelargoniums are almost all tender, evergreen plants of South African origin. When introduced to Britain they were given the common name Geranium because of their similarity to the equally wonderful, but hardy Geraniums or Cranesbills, which are also a “must have plant for all gardens. Pelargoniums are broadly divided into four main groups Zonal, Regal, Ivy Leaved or trailing and Scented leaved - showing how versatile the plants are. They are perfect for tubs, troughs, hanging baskets and bedding schemes in borders. Pelargoniums benefit from regular feeding, deadheading and watering and prefer an open, sunny site. On their own taking centre stage or planted with other summer plants such as Lobelia, Fuchsia and Petunia they are worthy of a place in every garden. Supplied by Old Railway Line,Three Cocks

We really are what we eat! Are you feeling run down, susceptible to all sorts of cold and flu? Spending a small fortune on hair and make-up products to add gloss and lustre? Skin a little dry? That dratted mirror making you look older than you are? Well: Running the Weight & See course for the last 6 weeks (4 to go), I’ve been helping them rediscover their vitality as they shed body fat. We all do this journey together but at our own pace. It’s had me walking the walk as never before and really examining what I do, how I train, what I eat. The a of it all makes us focus on this simple and well-worn sentence, but one we disregard at our peril; We really ARE what we eat and MANY of the illnesses, ailments, skin complaints, PMS, menopausal symptoms, and even how we LOOK are often dramatically changed once you start to introduce fresh wholesome foods IN and take sugar, alcohol, (sometimes dairy, sometimes wheat), OUT. I am compelled to say here – always seek your Doctor’s advice if you’re not sure where to head, but with a little professional help from a Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, or even some very good books, it is

simply not a problem as there are alternatives galore these days. Add in lots of water or herbal teas and your hair, nails and skin will soon take on a new sheen. Do you know many back aches are literally caused by de-hydration? Try water! Add seeds, fish, a few nuts and heaps of vegetables and many further complaints would disappear. Even depression and mood can be lifted with the right foods (e-mail me for further worksheets on this – it’s too huge a subject to cover here). You can easily carry a food intolerance that might manifest in ways you’d never imagine. Hives, muscle and joint pain, mucus formation, rhinitis (a drippy nose), sore throats, muzzy headedness.. too many to list here. Go to your surgery or Google any of the complaints above and you’ll get a lot of medicinal advice, and pharmaceutical pills to pop. With minor problems, try food first (with good advice behind you as it can be a minefield). At the very least follow taking out the baddies and introducing known goodies and see what happens! Happy May. Cat Article supplied by Cat Lawford Health consultant for Gym & Tonic

The Thoughts of a Greengrocer Sitting down to write this article my thoughts are very mixed this month. The weather is quite good with some lovely days and everything is growing well. It’s been an excellent start to the asparagus season with the forced stuff being good and now the very thin asparagus known as sprue being really tasty and tender - it chops nicely raw into a green salad. Not much else of the local or British produce yet but we’ve had lovely Jersey Royals, some good Mallorcan new potatoes and now the tomatoes from Sicily are coming, they taste so much better than greenhouse crops. Also the leafy lemons from southern Italy which are unwaxed and unsprayed. We get sent what the Italians call the smaller ones although they are usually quite a bit larger than standard commercial lemons; in Italy they can grow to be like footballs. For those who like liqueurs the Limoncella made using these lemons is quite superb. All this is good but there is a cloud on the horizon. A couple of weeks ago I saw a very brief article in the Daily Telegraph about the EU banning the import of Indian mangoes. These mangoes are absolutely wonderful and will be greatly missed this summer. Already I have been told by one of the standholders in Birmingham Wholesale Market that other similar mangoes from different supplier countries are too dear to buy and so he will be missing out on one of his more important lines for a couple of years. Whether there is a good reason for this or just the usual petty-fogging nonsense whilst Europe is trying to prevent open competition I do not know. But I know what I think! Soon we can look forward to proper English strawberries followed by the raspberries. At the same time local peas and broad beans should be around. Last year the Pembrokeshire potatoes were a disappointment, I hope they are better this time as they can make exceptional eating. Good luck to anyone trying to maintain the newly recommended diet of 10 fruit or veg per day. I shall do my best to supply you but won’t blame you if you get bored with it. At the end of this month is the Festival, I hope you all have a lovely time during those ten or more days.

Build your own meal what a treat! Next came the main courses which were both good sized portions. Lee polished off his dinner in no time which I believe is a good sign. New to Sea Bass, I really enjoyed this dish as a refreshing change from what I would usually go for, it was very flavoursome with some great textures.

SMITH BUILDERS LTD The future of construction

After dinner we decided it would be rude not to have a dessert so we both went for the Chocolate Brownie. We were not disappointed here either! Great choice and it went down a treat and finished off our meal perfectly!!

Lee and I were lucky enough to have the chance to visit The Bridge End Inn, Talgarth, for our first food review. After a recent much needed refurbishment, The Bridge Inn, nestled in the centre of the Market town of Talgarth, really is a delight to visit. Roaring log fires and country decor (and a warm welcome) has brought this lovely pub back to life. It really is a pleasant surprise. We were seated in the cellar which is away from the hustle and bustle of the bar and it was lovely to see quite a few local faces dining around us. The menu has a huge choice of seasonal meat and vegetarian options with a sauce to compliment each dish what ever you fancy from Italian, Indian or American this menu has something for everyone! Plus additional choices on the Specials board which are on offer throughout the week too. It’s lovely to know that all meat is locally sourced and meals are freshly prepared. We decided to go for the shared platter for our starter and for my main meal I chose the Fillet of Sea Bass with Chorizo & bean stew, Spanish style rice with roasted vegetables and bread, from the Specials Board. Lee selected the ‘Build your own meal’ which we both thought was a really good idea! First you choose the protein element of your meal then the sauce followed by carbs and the bit on the side. Lee had Welsh Lamb with the deep south sauce, accompanied by chips and garlic bread. We were very impressed with the presentation of the platter when it arrived which comprised of cured meats, cheese, olives, sundried tomatoes, olive oil, bread, aioli and salad. It was a nice light starter full of flavour which we would both recommend.

We had a lovely relaxed evening with great service, attentive staff and delicious food and drink. We’d highly recommend the Bridge for a meal out with friends or family. Thank you Jane, chef Pete and the Staff at the The Bridge Inn for a lovely dining experience. We’ll be back soon to try one of those steaks! Article written by Charlotte Lloyd.

School Focus Michaelchurch Escley Michaelchurch Escley Primary School is a dynamic, rural school only a few miles outside of Hay, in the foothills of the Black Mountains. “We are one of the most rural schools in Britain,” a parent says, “and our children benefit from such a special experience here. They have great teachers to guide their learning and they get to do it in a really beautiful and warm-hearted place.” Through Michaelchurch’s determination to make the most of its unique setting and child-centred ethos the school has gained the support of the Wye Nature group. This group have put their free school application on hold and are now supporting Michaelchurch to further emphasise outdoor learning and move towards topic-based delivery of the National Curriculum through use of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The Wye Nature Project Co-ordinator, Diahann Hughes Hawkins, whose daughter will join the school after the Easter break

and whose son will attend the preschool currently being planned, says she is confident their family have found a school which will offer their children a high quality of education, “but not at the expense of their happiness or childhood”. She continues “To our knowledge this is the first time free school thinking and energy has been harnessed to co-create a vision of educational approach delivered by a Local Authority school and we’re really excited about what we can achieve”. Michaelchurch recently recruited a new permanent Early Years teacher and by the time this goes to press there will be a new Head in place. Both are committed to helping the school achieve its vision and will be warmly welcomed when they, along with some new children, join the school after Easter. If you think you’d like to look around the school yourself, you can get in touch direct or attend one of the many open days or outdoor events that are planned over the coming months. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that wrote at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300C.

Wild in May

Protecting wildlife for the future

The Holly Blue is a tiny butterfly. Its closed wings are the size of my thumb-nail, chalky with black dots below, and bright blue above. The dark edges on this one show that it is a female. Settled in a sunny spot she may bask unnoticed, only catching your attention in quick silvery flight. Butterflies out now have emerged from pupae formed last autumn. These females lay eggs on the buds of Holly which the green caterpillars eat. When this early generation pupates and emerges to fly in late summer Holly is no longer suitable so they lay eggs on the fresh buds of Ivy instead. And so the cycle continues. Holly Blues have been extending their range northward, perhaps in response to climate change. In Wales they are now widespread where their common food plants grow but numbers vary from year to year. They are likely to be among the butterflies in the wild flower meadow and lovely gardens at Caer Beris Manor in Builth Wells which open for the National Gardens Scheme on Bank

Art Photography? Mark is holding two free exhibitions in May. One in the beautiful setting of The Old Conservatory at Treberfydd House, near Llangorse, where he will be showing his large artworks and the other in the convivial surroundings of The Dragon Inn, Crickhowell. See What’s On for details. Mark’s favourite subjects are trees and woodlands. Trees provide us with food, shelter, shade and fuel but also possess a natural beauty of form. This is not only true for a single tree but also for woodlands and tree-filled landscapes as well as for the individual elements that make up a tree – its fruit, seeds, buds, flowers, leaves and bark. Mark makes his own art prints in his studio in The Black Mountains near Talgarth. These artworks are quite unlike traditional photographs and always generate a great deal of interest, eliciting comments such as “Surely that’s not a photograph!”

Windows XP

Hello everyone, a final reminder here about Windows XP end of life on April 8th, 2014. Few things to keep in mind... Yes, your computer should still work after April 8th, 2014. But will it be safe? Microsoft will not secure the computer or send out updates anymore, which can leave your computer in a vulnerable state for attacks/viruses/or just programs not working anymore. As well, some of your business programs might not work or fail. At this point, until the day it stops, we don’t really know what will work, what won’t or what will break. A few recommendations... Back up all of your data on a daily or weekly basis if you intend to continue using it. If you have a business computer with Windows XP, it’s not recommended to continue using it, but again...it’s YOUR choice. Call Nic on: 01874 754468 if you have any XP or PC related questions.

We are really looking forward to seeing many of our existing customers, both local & those visiting, whilst also welcoming new ones. Over the last year or so the herbfarmacy business has expanded both nationally & internationally; increasing our presence in London & Hong Kong and successfully launching herbfarmacy in Japan, among other locations. The herbfarmacy range of products has also blossomed over the last couple of years, involving the launch of several new products and winning yet more awards. The most recent addition to the range being our Exfoliating Cleanser containing marshmallow and apricot kernel oils, jojoba beads and white clay, and using the key herbs of Marshmallow, which is both

Back in March we announced we wouldn’t be running the Car Boot Sales in Hay during 2014 ... Since then I have received several phone calls per week, many many emails and people stopping me in the street – all disappointed with the news. With this in mind we have come up with a compromise. We have now planned four Sales, each on the first Saturday of the month, starting in June and ending in September. Please see our advert below for actual dates and more details. Many years ago when the Wye Local Car Boot Sales started up there was a lovely community feel – let’s get that back. Booters used to have ‘clear outs’ to the benefit of the buyers. Over the years I picked up some right bargains, a football table for James being the most memorable. Not to mention the many fruit and vegetable plants that provide for us year upon year. If you’ve been thinking of doing a boot yourself, perhaps your children have outgrown their toys and clothes? Or maybe you can’t get into your spare room? We try to create a very relaxed feel to our Car Boot Sales, giving you 45 minutes to set up without buyers asking questions, buyers will not be allowed to enter the site until 9.30am. Please do support this local event, whether you’re a seller or a buyer. A donation goes to the local School at the end and any profit goes back into this community magazine. My dad and I look forward to kicking things off on Saturday 7th June. Here’s hoping to dry weather! Lisa Marie x After all the disappointment ... the Car Boots are back on!

Having seen our clothing sales grow dramatically over the year we have now decided to expand and develop our range. This spring we are launching two new brands of footwear, V Tech and Hoggs. We are taking the offering of work wear boots from 12 styles to 30 styles, and, on top of the traditional working boots we have sold for years, we are now offering a range of Regatta walking boots for the first time. We are also trialling in the Hay depot a more comprehensive range of Children’s clothing. Having always sold basic children’s waterproofs, we are now offering children’s fleeces, shirts, shoes and trousers as well as hats and other accessories. We would like to thank our excellent young staff members in Hay; Stephanie Sweetingham ad Shelley Barrell, both of whom put a lot of work in to helping to develop the ranges and into merchandising the products.

the beginning of May. Come and buy fresh local produce, or vintage-ware, meet the producers and browse the stalls. Or hire the space yourself for community events, public functions or table-top sales at other times.

The Cheese Market is now officially open! Come and have a look, the gates are unlocked daily between 9am-5pm. Inside you will find large wall displays that explain the history of the building, of Hay Market and some of the history of Hay. These are brought to life by archive photos and illustrations. Running around the bottom of the displays is a timeline that plots the use of the Cheese Market over the past 180 years. There are also two large maps, so you can see how Hay has changed since the first published OS Map of Hay was made in 1889. At last the Market Hall will now be used once again for regular weekly markets. On Thursdays Hay Market will be expanding into the Cheese Market and we are starting regular Saturday Markets from

Upstairs the beautiful, historic holiday flat is now fully furnished and available for bookings. It can accommodate two in an en suite bedroom. Changing the way we look after you…..update Last month we told you that we were changing the way in which we look after your long term conditions, by offering opportunistic access to the clinical team. Patients already seen have given positive feedback. Remember! When you visit the surgery, you may ask to have your annual review. Sometimes this will not be possible due to workload on that day. Another significant change we have made is asking you to “set your agenda”. This is to try to help both you and the clinical team get the most out of your consultation time. The receptionist will ask you to complete a questionnaire to take in to your consultation. The clinician can then prioritise what is most important to you. Why did you need to see the doctor today? Patients often present with several problems. Writing these down means they can be prioritised What is the most important thing for you? Tell us what you want to get out of the consultation. What have you tried already to help this problem? The doctor can ask questions about what you’ve tried and advise/guide on further treatment. With the above, both the patient & doctor will feel this has been an effective use of the consultation.

NO ROOTS, ALL WOW! THE NEXT HAND-HELD DEVICE TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE.... COLOR WOW ROOT COVER UP

The work we’re doing at Hay Together is really starting to make an impact on the town now. Our office has become a real community hub, with people coming to use the office equipment, borrow our resources and pass the time of day over a coffee! We’re open on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 3pm and at other times by arrangement. Don’t forget that we have a large meeting room too, perfect for group meetings. Call 07446 995613 to book. Now that the sun’s coming out, we’re getting more visitors to our huge map of Hay on the cobbles, which is where our community noticeboard is housed too. It’s a great place to find out what’s going on in town, and it’s free to advertise there – so if you’re organising an event, selling something or looking for work please help yourself to some space. The Hay Together team are currently assisting a group of students from the School of Architecture at Cardiff University who are working on a study of Hay. Their work will be shown at an exhibition in the summer and we wish them the very best with their project. At Hay Together’s Volunteer Service we’re always looking for new and interesting opportunities to offer our volunteers. We currently have 36 volunteer positions available, in all sorts of settings, and we’d like to increase that. We offer a comprehensive service to anyone thinking about taking on volunteers, and can advise on all aspects of voluntary work. Our regular meetings are now at the Globe on the third Thursday of the month from 6pm to 7.30pm. The Globe have very kindly offered to show a kids’ film downstairs while we meet, so don’t let child care issues put you off coming. The meetings are completely open and public, and we are always pleased to hear opinions and ideas from everyone around the table. The next meeting will be April 24th and you are warmly invited to join us.

News from Hay Town Council Council Members were saddened to learn of the death of fellow councillor – Peter Lloyd; although ill health prevented Peter from attending meetings in recent months he had remained actively involved by sharing his thoughts and opinions till just a few days before his death. The council are pleased to learn that Hay-on-Wye has been selected by the Brecon Beacons National Park to work with them to produce a community development plan; the focus of this project will be on consultation with the residents of the town and determining the future of the town based on those responses. I personally hope that the consultation will extend beyond the very articulate minority but will include that ‘silent majority’ which so often is overlooked. It may also be an opportunity for the BBNP to demonstrate an ability to listen to, and work with, local communities. Another major issue has been that of parking within the town; street parking decisions have been made with safety in mind but also with consideration to supporting our local businesses; we hope that we have made it easy for those shoppers who simply need to pop-in to a few shops for a one or two essentials! Council members are working to improve the transparency of the work which they do; a new web page is currently being set up together with a dedicated facebook page. We hope that such measures will ensure that residents are better informed about those issues which affect the town. Both sites will be up and running very soon - please use them! Finally, all councillors are concerned about the effects of a few very irresponsible dog - owners in our town; not only is the mess unsightly but it poses a real health risk to our children – please show a little consideration to those who live and visit Hay and clean up what your dog leaves behind!! News from Timbuktu It’s been a busy couple of months for Hay2Timbuktu. The final Two Towns One World report has been made to the EU, and you can now read the educational materials that were produced as part of the project on our website. We’ve had two sponsored cycle events: the Medics group raised over £300 at their annual bike ride and, at the time of writing, plans are underway for a sponsored static cycle ride to Timbuktu as part of the Bike Fest. Gwernyfed School held a cake sale and raised over £50 for schools in Timbuktu. At Hay Spring Fair, young craftspeople used decoupage to decorate a chair with Malian and Hay maps, and Thai soup was sold in aid of the Medics group. Thanks to everyone who has donated time or money to these fundraisers. And another annual favourite event is coming up – African Market Day. The day takes place on Sunday 25th May at Hay Parish Hall, Lion Street with a mix of stalls representing links with Mali, craft workshops for children, drumming workshops and delicious African food. Do drop in and bring the family. All proceeds go to support the Medics4Timbuktu group, setting up clinics and providing medicines for antenatal care. Once again the Festival is supporting our special link with Timbuktu with a performance from Malian musicians, Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté on the first Sunday. Find out more at: hay2timbuktu.org.uk.

Toddler Toys that can be made from household items Some great ways to get toys that are free or lowcost are to get crafty and repurpose used items around your home. You can decide whether to use odds and ends you find around your home or to invest a bit of money in some craft supplies to feed your toddler’s growing interests. Rattles from Plastic Bottles Use an empty plastic bottle filled with beads, buttons, a bell and some colourful bits of paper to decorate with strips of colored tape.

elastic and some bells and beads, you’ll soon have bracelets that can be worn indoors or out on the town to make your tiny tot dance until she drops. Guitar from Old Shoe Box If you have a little musician and would prefer to build his first set of strings, all you need are an old shoe box, some rubber bands, and thumb tacks. Then, decide if you want to keep it simple or get really fancy.

Old Electronics An old remote control, calculator, or computer keyboard can be cleaned up with all the hazards (small parts, batteries, etc.) removed. You might find that your little one will be less inclined to bang away at your working and newer electronics if they have their own toy laptop! Fabric Square Dispenser from Old Cloth Dispenser Box If you’ve ever shreaked at the sight of a baby emptying the container of wet wipes or creating a new layer of carpet by pulling facial tissue after facial tissue out of the box, you will certainly appreciate cutting up some fabric squares and packing them into an empty wipes dispenser. Jingle Bell Ankle Bracelets from Elastic Cords, Beads and Bells Forget the fancy trainers that light up and play music when your baby walks in them. With just a little

Play Kitchen from Old Dressers and Cupboards Wow a homemade kitchen for toddlers, this one would take some work but what a lovely sight to see your little one ‘cooking away’ once the project is completed. Use an old piece of furniture, such as a bedside cupboard. Add new life with a bit of paint and minor remodeling. Use old hooks, unused small kitchen utensils, chalk board paint, old material for a curtain, even draw on hob rings! Be as creative as you can.

No job too small my aim is to provide an excellent service
