As the year comes to a close and another one will soon begin. We are all intrigued with what another year could be, especially 2023. The grade 8s of 2019 will now be the seniors of our school. With plenty in store for the new year, we await with excitement to experience what the matrics hold for the final year of their high school career.

Focusing on the Sustainability Portfolio; The Sustainability Committee will be growing in 2023! (literally). Wynberg Girls ’ High School will be introducing an Ecolab. The lab will be built with strictly sustainable materials and resources. It is to be located upstairs near the science block. `` Ecolab will create a safe and fun space for learners to grow and embrace the culture of sustainability which is the future ” , says Rumaanah Surtee, Head of sustainability 2022/2023. Furthermore, there are plenty of exciting events that will be hosted during next year such as; Summer ‘23 Ecofest, Sustainability bingo house challenge, Harvesting and Gardening Days, and many more occasions to proceed. These projects are a clear indication of the environmental commitment that our school has made toward a sustainable environment. Moreover, Wynberg is renowned for its empowering and contagious spirit. The leaders of 2023 have taken it upon themselves to “ reinvent the wheel” when it comes to spirit. “I want to make spirit appeal to people of all personalities ” , says Jada Mcleod (Head of Azima). Not all students are comfortable with cheering and being extroverted, yet that is not the only way to show support. The Head of Houses will be incorporating different forms of spirit to include all students of Wynberg. Equally as important is tutor. The goal of matric leaders for 2023 is to construct a congenial and inclusive environment in the morning where everyone feels welcomed and comfortable. “My goal is to make our tutor group a family and our tutor class a home. I want tutor to be an enjoyable time as we are each other's company every morning. ” , says Le-ah Lawerence (Matric Leader of ME ).

With being the leaders and seniors of the school the new matrics have an exceedingly packed and anticipating year ahead of each and every one of them. The younger grades, staff, and Wynberg as a whole look forward to seeing the learners fulfill their roles and lead by example.

We wish all class of 2023 a memorable and successful last year of school.
