INTRODUCTION Fail Better is my portfolio that containing works from many failures and successes on the way to becoming a better graphic designer. During the attempts, one of the most valuable things that I learned is that failure is part of process and success, we must persist on die trying, keep learning from the mistake, then get back up again whenever there is a down time. This portfolio brings memories and lessons that have made me design better, fail better, and feel better.

The main goal of this project is to re-brand either a dead or dying brand, and explore which industries and new opportunity the company could lean on. The new identity should integrate the original soul of the company with new and refresh approach.
SOLUTIONS I chose to re-brand the company identity for Umbro which founded by Humphreys brothers, Harold and Wallace Humphreys. The main problem discussed in the development and design process was the fact that Umbro is a brand that only focus on soccer with heritage aesthetic which considered as outdated and inappropriate. So I created the concept of the smart performance, which integrate technology and spread to focus on other fields to emphasize the look smart play smart idea of the brand.

In this project, we have to find a handmade sign from the street and redesign it to a new look to the brand. The visual system should express the original brand or organization character to represent its soul and make the message deliver efficiently.
SOLUTIONS The handmade sign I found from the street was an event campaign for a local art community organization in San Francisco named Artspan. The main message and goal of the sign was about their upcoming event in the San Francisco neighborhood. So, I expanded it into a new branding system for the organization based on the concept of connecting local artists and event campaign to deliverables which included a booklet, a poster series, and a mobile app.

The main goal of this project is to develop a rationale for expressing a piece of music through typography, imagery, and layout. Gather ideas, emotions, and visuals that would be associated with the song. Then project the design onto various surface to create a multi-dimensional design solution.
SOLUTIONS I chose Linkin Park's song Iridescent, because I felt that it carried a feeling of infinite hope and shared the artist's belief that always hold the hope, the belief, and the conviction that there is a better life, better world, beyond horizon. I chose a variety of typeface and message that showcase the feeling of chaos and hope. The imagery I collected and combined convey the feeling of a victim hoping in darkness and accept finite disappointment.

I chose to redesign three famous horror novels that were written by several famous novelists: American Psycho, The Exorcist, and The Haunting of Hill House. My target audience for the book cover series was teenager. I chose three colors that symbolized the three novels' tones and moods. I decided to keep the design simple and classic so that the design would be timeless. I used basic graphic elements and crease paper texture to capture the idea of demon possession and the key subjects of the novels. The crease paper effect were hand made and created by using ink jet printer, matte papers, and a scanner.

The objective was to document an event or a journey then used experimental typography techniques to tell a story. The main goal of the project was to create a book that both copy and imagery were done by us and expressed typographically.
SOLUTIONS Tea Garden was the final deliverable of the objective, which started with the idea of Japanese Zen and the art of tea: calm, warm, and peace. The Tea Garden is more than a tourist spot, it is a mixture of nature, Zen, silence that creates a peaceful environment that warm your soul and clam your mind. This book is a compilation of short story and journal that record the feeling when I was there and the history of the spot I have been visited in the garden.

The objective is to creating a virtual film festival for a chosen film director. A common thread in his or her films is required, as well as development of a cohesive visual system for various deliverables. This project was required to develop the system of deliverables which should include: a catalog of movies, a poster, a dvd set case, a sound track case, and promotional materials such as website and advertisements which all capture the essence of your film festival.
SOLUTIONS The director I chose for this project was the director Danny Boyle, who is well known for his classic frenetic visual style, his willingness to experiment with genre, and his tendency to collaborate with the same actors. The movies I chose were Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and 127 Hours. A common tread that I found throughout his movies was the spirit of conquering chaos and adversity. I decided to go with a vivid colors palette and imagery style that blend well along with his manic enthusiasm style that he used throughout in the movies that I chose for this festival.

From the research on Americans housing and how they organize their home, I found that most people don't know how to clean out their home clutter effectively and look for effortless solutions. I solved this problem by providing some tools that I named under Tidyup. It consists of an app, a website and kits. People who having difficulty on organizing and keeping their homes clutter-free will find its effective solution and helpful assistant in the app. It will help them organize their homes effortlessly, raise their organizing awareness, keep track on their belonging and be motivated at all times. Users will also find interesting and helpful solutions for a clutter-free home on the website which includes the Tidyup kits that help them organize even better. Tidyup starter kit is offered as a kit for further assistance on home organizing and items tracking with latest bluetooth tethering, gps tracking, and augmented reality.

Household clutter is nothing new. A recent survey conducted by Uncle Bob’s Self Storage on trends in home and self-storage indicates that more than 40 percent of Americans feel they have too much stuff in their homes. Furniture, clothing, and collectibles top the list of items that are cluttering up people homes and driving them to seek better storage and organization solutions. Collectibles, files, and work equipment were also mentioned as contributing to the clutter in our homes. Even they try hard, nothing seems working and clutter keeps coming back. Our main goal is to develop and provide new, efficient, and innovative methods for decluttering and organizing better while creating a different and better experience for our customers. Another goal is to change the way how people organize and live by providing them new and innovative information that they have never tried before.
