THE LIMITLESS INSTITUTION
What is the issue? Clifton Hill was once a suburb that thrived and celebrated the arts. The strength of the arts sector is unfortunately now that of a bygone era, leading to various forms of creativity being lost within the community. This is not a specific phenomenon to Clifton Hill, but one felt across our nation. At a state level, this is due to the lack of funding within the creative industry, the result of which is a lack of; creative spaces, support of the artist and the marketing of the arts. Hence, both creative spaces and the artist remain vulnerable and at risk in Victoria.

What is the solution? The Limitless Institution is a space to restore the forgotten arts of Clifton Hill. Through both the celebration of the arts and the support of the struggling artist, with learning and development opportunities, affordable housing and regenerative gardens. Inspired by the Bauhaus Artistic Movement in the early 1920s, to merge artistic mediums into one unified approach, combining individual artistry with mass production and function. The guiding principle of which was, to allow many art forms to communicate and influence one another, rather than exist separately. Similarly, our approach is to create space for the unbridled expression of the artist and the commercial market, to not only coexist but prosper.
How do we do this? By merging together the key components of Avant-Garde architecture + landscape through the process of Alchemy.
What is Alchemy? To transform base metals such as lead or copper into silver or gold and to discover a cure for disease and a way of extending life.
Transform? The existing Heritage-listed site of the Clifton Hill Shot Tower and Factory.
Cure for Disease? The forgotten arts of Clifton Hill focusing on Pottery & Textiles
Extending Life? Through both the celebration of the arts and the support of the struggling artist with learning and development opportunities, affordable housing and regenerative healing gardens.
