LANDFORMING The landforming model is inspired by the Big Dipper. Triangulation technique is used to create extrusions and subtractions.

ASSEMBLAGE - GRAFTING The assemblage model uses grafting technique to comprise the frame and grid model and the landforming model into one symbiotic entity. The elements from the landforming are lifted up by framing elements, while the frame structure is supported by landforming elements.

NARRATIVE - OCCUPY Boston ivy was one of the original residents on the island before human came. It is not attractive as flowering plants. The branch of it even is not strong enough to support itself. However, it could grow freely on any object at that time. When human occupied the island, they thought it was annoying and cut its branches in order to clear spaces to build a village. Boston ivy almost disappeared on the island. Later human left, the restriction gone, it can grow freely again. After 20 years, it takes over the whole village.

SUPERIMPOSITION Movement map at 3p.m., plan drawing of the assemblage model and the collage are overlayed. The model is split into two parts and placed on two sides so that people’s movement will not be interrupted. The form of ivy is used to connect two sides.

EXPERIENCE In the experience college, different materials are applied to create different atmospheres. Weathered copper is used to representing ivy. Heaviness is created by dark steel. Both copper and silver steel are used in the frame. Meshes are used to connect frame, while do not block the view.

FINAL PROJECT The concept of the project is based on the narrative, which is about the change of occupancy of one space. The different stages of the island are presented. The design is inspired by the landforming model and the superimposition. Triangles and pentagons are used to represent both stars and the ivy.
