THE ESSENTIAL EDGE
NEWS OF THE WORLD LEADER IN ESSENTIAL OILS
We also had the unveiling of the bronze statue of Gary on his horse Sundance that was sculpted by world-famous artist Jonathan Bronson. It is a beautiful tribute to Gary. The statue sits next to the 20x20 foot cabin that is an exact replica of the cabin Gary lived in during the first years of his life. But what is more amazing is to see the cabin next to our Global Headquarters. The comparison is stark, especially when you think about how Gary rose from the depths of poverty growing up in the mountains and how the dramatic events of his life took him down the path to bring the healing essence of the plant kingdom to the world, creating the beauty that Young Living is today.
A MESSAGE FROM MARY Hello, My Friends, It seems like summer was just starting; now we are halfway through fall, and soon the snow will be falling. How does it happen so fast? I’ve concluded that our lives are so busy that we just don’t take time to enjoy some fresh air and pull a few weeds in the garden. Busy? I think it’s overdrive in the fast lane. I call it growth with some challenges and a lot of excitement. If you have been to the new Experience Centre in our Global Headquarters, then you have seen the miniature distiller that is a combination of glass and stainless steel. It was built by Brett Packer, director of Global Farms, at the Highland Flats farm. Travis Thompson, a frequent collaborator with our farm teams, did a lot of the design work and sourced parts from around the world. Young Living Lead Electrician Trygve Aos was the electrical engineer; and when you see the distiller, you’ll wonder how they were able to do it. They built it so the panels around the bottom could be removed so that everyone can see how it works mechanically. Seeing it for the first time, I was in absolute awe. At the unveiling, Brett was thrilled to explain how the distiller works. For the first time, you can actually see the steam rise in the glass tube and then go into the condenser, where the steam is converted back into a liquid, carrying the oil with it into the glass cylinder, where the droplets flow down into the separator and the oil bubbles up to the top. It is an exact replica of Gary’s design, but in miniature. It is fascinating to watch and when the word gets out, we will have people coming to see this one-of-a-kind distiller in operation—and at the same time, they’ll be learning about Young Living. The distiller will be one of the first things you’ll want to see when you come to visit our Global Headquarters.
Toward the end of August, we flew to St. Maries to have some fun on the farm with our Gold members. It was wonderful to be together again and to share so many stories and memories that originated at this first Young Living farm. After a day at the farm, many went rafting on the Spokane River, but others took advantage to drive 100 miles north toward the Canadian border to the Highland Flats farm, where Beauty School was taking place. As usual, Brett brought the farm event to an end with a western hoedown with music and dancing in the distillery. It was a great time of creating comradery, renewing friendships, and meeting new members of the Young Living family from many far corners of the earth. At our Young Living Lavender Farm and Distillery in Mona, Utah, USA, there is great excitement over the completion of the new Visitors Centre. The plans started about a year ago, and it has been amazing to watch the change. One thing we are very excited about is the increased capacity for beautiful weddings. The Visitors Center has eight bridal suites that can sleep the entire bridal party with family members, including children. Get your reservations in early because I know we are going to be booked up non-stop. The restaurant is back in business to make eating convenient at the farm, and the new Experience Centre will provide you with shopping galore. We not only have a new Visitors Centre but also a new gazebo and a new snack shack, where we serve NingXia Red® slushies, and now you won’t have to wait in long lines because you can order from both sides. The location has changed so that parents and friends can enjoy snacking while watching the kids run through the new splash pad during those hot summer days. In addition, we have a new paddleboat dock that is very efficient and loads on the west side of the pond so that those watching can sit underneath the shade trees. We also have all-new restrooms underneath the gazebo that you enter across from the show barn.

well. There are other new additions, and I could go on and on, so come and see for yourself. We welcomed almost 2,000 new Silvers to our retreat in Mona, which was a spectacular event for all of them. What a great way to see our Young Living roots, where historic events took place in those beginning days, and to reconnect with the earth, the foundation of Young Living. As most of you know, Gary loved horses, and one of his dreams was to have a draft horse show at the Mona farm. That dream came to fruition in 2016. In the world of Percheron and Friesian show horses, the word is out that the Young Living farm in Mona, Utah, is the best venue in the world. The view from the stands is spectacular as the mountains touch the sky with exquisite colors and majesty. The area is big and spacious, easily accommodating the many Percheron hitches of the drivers coming from all over the United States and Canada. The facilities are first class and accommodate the big rigs that carry these magnificent animals. The challenge now is that in order to allow more entries, we would have to build a third show horse barn. During the day, Jacob leads the jousting tournament, which is a new experience for many if you’ve never seen real medieval jousting. It’s fun because all the jousters are young people, and two of them are women, which is even more fun. Half of the time, the women win the tournament. In the evening, we have a concert on the lawn, and then we head over to the excitement of the rodeo. Those bull riders really put on a show, as do the clowns, who are hilarious. I could go on and on, but you’ll just have to make it a family adventure to come to our farm and enjoy the events that are taking place. There’s a lot going on, but the reason for all of it is to learn how we produce essential oils and why they are so important to all of us. We appreciate all of you, and each one of you is important. This last year and a half has been a challenge, but we are moving forward. We have overcome the many challenges of moving to the new shopping platform, and we are learning how to live life in healthier ways—enjoying the benefits of our oils and supplements, leading a great movement of love and kindness, and serving humanity in many diverse ways. With love and appreciation from our family to yours, Mary, Jacob, Kait, and Josef
It’s a whole new experience for visitors. Those of you who have been there before will be thrilled; you who come to visit for the first time will be thrilled as
Gary Young started the Rebuild Nepal project in 2016 after a series of devastating earthquakes destroyed homes, schools, and businesses. Gary was committed to building 100 homes and a primary school in Yarsa, which came to fruition in 2018. The Young Living Foundation then expanded its support further in Nepal by restoring 15 schools and building two women’s cooperative centers in the Tanahun District.
CELEBRATING SIX YEARS OF IMPACT WITH REBUILD NEPAL Leaving a lasting impact for 5,000 students and women in Nepal After six years of rebuild efforts that have impacted thousands of people in Nepal, The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation celebrated the completion of its Rebuild Nepal project in August. These efforts— powered by the compassion and generosity of our global Young Living community—provided education to over 2,500 students, economically empowered 2,450 women, and created sanctuary for 100 families.
The Foundation’s school rebuild and restoration efforts helped add 82 classrooms to 15 schools, repaired damaged infrastructure, and improved school grounds to create an inviting atmosphere for students. The principal of the Janakalyan school explained that it would have taken over five years to raise enough funds to add the six classrooms, a library, and a computer lab. The upgrades to this school alone unlocked educational opportunity for more than 250 new students in the region who previously couldn’t attend school due to financial constraints. The two women’s cooperative centers are now thriving, growing, and offering more women opportunities for financial self-reliance. One woman has been able to grow her agriculture business from
5 chickens to over 300. Another can now afford to send her grandchildren to school from the profits of her small business. Ultimately, these cooperatives are helping women feel involved and empowered to positively influence their families and communities. We are so grateful for the entire Foundation team in Nepal, the more than 100 Young Living brand partners who assisted on service trips, and all who contributed to make this six-year project an amazing success. While this project has come to an end, the Foundation continues to provide support in vulnerable communities worldwide by creating opportunities through championing education, developing enterprise, and ending exploitation. The farm and distillery are the birthplace of Young Living’s Seed to Seal® quality commitment, where it all began. It’s early July and the melissa has just started to bud with what will soon grow into bright yellow and white flowers. The elements that make Melissa such a powerful essential oil have reached the optimal point in the field for harvest. All the weeding, watering, and care that have gone into the plants are about to pay off.
A DAY DISTILLED AT ST. MARIES, IDAHO, USA St. Maries, Idaho, is the home of the very first Young Living farm
The harvester and the harvest truck are ready, cutting three rows of knee-high melissa at a time, sending it under the swather onto a conveyor belt to the harvest truck. The harvester moves up and down the rows of bright melissa, cutting and gathering the plants until the harvest truck is completely full. Once the harvest truck is full to the brim, it makes its way to the distillery, unloading the plant material onto a concrete pad that allows the plant materials to “stress,” or develop the optimal level of sugars prior to distillation. The plant material is then loaded into the cookers and distilled at a specific temperature and time to ensure the highest Seed to Seal-quality oil is produced. Once the ideal cook time has been reached, the oil is then extracted from the separator, and any leftover particles or impurities are filtered out. An expert will then take a sample and test it on site for potency, quality, aroma, and optimal
compound profile, using their wealth of experience to ensure the oil meets our exacting standards. If the staff at the distillery sign off on it, the essential oil will make its way to the Distribution Center and warehouse for final testing and packaging. Each of our farms has detailed, intensive processes like these—steps and careful work done every day to ensure that the essential oils you love are made right for you and your family. Thank you for letting us share our work with you.

NEW YOUNG LIVING EXPERIENCE CENTRE OPENS Live distillation, hands-on product experiences, a children’s space, and more On August 13, CEO Mary Young and President Joe Cannon hosted the grand opening of the brand-new Young Living Experience Centre at our Lehi, Utah, USA, Global Headquarters. This event was about more than simply cutting a ribbon—it was opening our doors to anyone who wants hands-on interaction with essential oil products and to experience our Seed to Seal® quality commitment for themselves. The center was a dream of Founder D. Gary Young, and it helps round out our Global Headquarters with its sensory exploration of everything Young Living is about. Attendees saw the unveiling of a statue of Founder D. Gary Young, heard a speech by CEO Mary Young, and were able to explore the bright, airy space of the Experience Centre. At the opening, Brett Packer, executive director of Global Farms, gave a demonstration of a oneof-a-kind distiller that will remain on display in the Experience Centre. Brett distilled Lavender essential oil live in the Experience Centre, filling the space with the signature Young Living scent. This demonstration wasn’t only for the occasion, though. The Experience Centre will offer live distillations for visitors to see, with a schedule posted by Experience Centre staff.
Joe Walker, executive vice president of Global Infrastructure, spoke about how the Young Living team has been demonstrating live distillations around the world for years and shared his excitement about how this display will offer that direct sensory interaction with the distillation process to more people than ever before. “Everybody wants to be involved in distillation,” he said. “They all want to smell it. They want to touch it. They want to be around it. We wanted to have that here.” Visitors to the center can sample Young Living products and engage with essential oils hands-on, giving them an opportunity to really dig in and experience all that Young Living has to offer. The new Experience Centre also includes a children’s area with educational displays, coloring pages, crayons, a TV, and cushions where kids can hang out and play while their parents browse. This family-friendly space is designed to give parents some time to themselves while exploring the immersive displays. Now that the center is officially open, come visit us Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., MT, and see the heart of everything we do and love at Young Living.
LEADERSHIP CORNER: GET TO KNOW ROYAL CROWN DIAMOND LEADER FRANCES FULLER
When I was introduced to Young Living in 1998, I was looking for anything that could improve my level of wellness. To my amazement, everything that I ordered worked - and I still had no intention of sharing with others until my neighbour, a medical doctor, told me she was having surgery for a chronic issue. I blurted out that I had been reading some amazing things about the Young Living essential oils and suggested to incorporate using them as part of her wellness journey. I lent her two partially used bottles to try. Within 2 days, she was convinced by Young Living!
the Feelings Collection and other single oils and blends. People were eager to learn and wanted a way to easily get the oils on a regular basis. Fast forward to 2008. I had the opportunity to go on a Caribbean cruise where I got to meet the executive team in Young Living and explored with them the wellness needs of Singaporeans. One thing led to another. On October 19, 2011 Young Living Singapore Young Living Singapore officially opened and that was one of the most treasured memories of all for me. However, the adventure was just beginning! Every Singaporean has friends and family in other countries, and we began sharing all over Asia.
What a paradigm shift! I suddenly realised that I had something that had the potential to enhance the lives of others. By keeping this information to myself, I was depriving others of the opportunity of better wellness. I was excited about If you are new to Young Living, my sharing the products but had no intention advice would be to USE the products and in “building a business”. share with others the ones you are most passionate about. Share your stories. You In February 2003, I travelled to do not have to know “everything” to share. Singapore for a holiday. During my stay, Just share your PASSION, and remember I began teaching others about the oils it’s about THEM – not about you. just as I had done in Florida. People were interested in Raindrop Technique, and I taught classes and also meditations with
