Aquatics Fall Swim Lessons

Discover the life skill of learning to swim with the award winning Cosumnes

CSD Aquatics Swim Lesson Program! All classes are taught by trained Instructors under the supervision of experienced Lead and Management staff.

REGISTRATION TIPS

Have a second and third time choice prepared when registering or transferring, as classes fill up quickly.

If unsure of the appropriate level, refer to sample Progress Report on yourcsd.com/ swimlessons

It is recommended that children repeat the last level they completed the previous summer. Most children remain in the same level for two or more sessions.

Jerry Fox Swim Center, Wackford Aquatic Complex, and Elk Grove Aquatics Center all offer swim lessons. If a class is full at one pool, check another facility.

COME PREPARED!

Participants should have a swim suit, towel, and sun block. For children in diapers, swim diapers must be worn in the pool. Goggles and swim caps are recommended for children with long hair or in level 3 and up.

Classes are not designed as drop-off and parents must remain on the pool deck for the duration of each class. Be on time or early to class as we strive to start class on time every day.

REFUND POLICY

Transferring classes or refunds will be granted if received at least 72 hours prior to the first class.

Refunds or credits will not be granted due to failure to attend a program.

If registered incorrectly, participants may be asked to leave the class without a refund, credit or transfer.

Residents of Elk Grove enjoy award-winning recreation facilities, including 101 parks, 1,094 acres of park and open space and 18 miles of trails. These facilities are constructed and maintained by Cosumnes CSD.

Watch our park maintenance funding video:

Maintenance of parks, streetscapes and trails is funded through Landscape & Lighting assessments collected in 13 bene t zones throughout the District.

• In our continual effort to maintain the integrity of our vast Urban Forest, Park & Golf Operations staff will plant upward of 300 trees this fall. These trees will replace trees that were removed from the Urban Forest in the last year.

• In sufficiently funded Benefit Zones, new park furniture will replace furniture that has surpassed its useful life. New park furniture is placed consistent with our Park Design Principles, and should provide for decades

enjoyment to our park patrons.

• Walking surfaces such as decomposed granite pathways and concrete sidewalks

be repaired during the fall. Decomposed Granite surfaces

areas that have eroded. Sidewalks

for repair or replacement.

Elk Grove Nature Park A Park With Purpose

Utilizing a green infrastructure approach, the Elk Grove Nature Park located behind the Cosumnes Community Services District Administration Building at 8820 Elk Grove Boulevard will manage stormwater runoff, provide wildlife habitat, promote environmental awareness, and contribute to the well-being of our Elk Grove Community.

The first phase of this new park will open this fall and includes seating areas for relaxation, interpretive signage for education, and natural areas for wildlife to thrive. Future phases of construction are planned, as funding becomes available, to include a nature play area, a visitor center, and additional stormwater management planters.

Come visit this respite in nature nestled amongst the bustle of suburban life. YourCSD.com/NaturePark

Cosumnes Fire

SAFETY TIPS

Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Older Adults in Your Community

To increase fire safety for older adults, NFPA offers the following guidelines:

SOUND THE ALARM

The majority of fatal fires occur when people are sleeping, and because smoke can put you into a deeper sleep rather than waking you. If anyone in your household is deaf or if your own hearing is diminished, consider installing a smoke alarm that uses a flashing light or vibration to alert you to a fire emergency.

DO THE DRILL

STAY CONNECTED

Keep a telephone nearby, along with emergency phone numbers so that you can communicate with emergency personnel if you’re trapped in your room by fire or smoke.

Conduct your own, or participate in, regular fire drills to make sure you know what to do in the event of a home fire. If you or someone you live with cannot escape alone, designate a member of the household to assist, and decide on backups in case the designee isn’t home.

KEEP IT LOW

If you don’t live in an apartment building, consider sleeping in a room on the ground floor in order to make emergency escape easier. Make sure that smoke alarms are installed in every sleeping room and outside any sleeping areas.

OPEN UP

Make sure that you are able to open all doors and windows in your home. Locks and pins should open easily from inside. (Some apartment and high-rise buildings have windows designed not to open.)

Fire Safety Tips

Use a battery-operated candle or glow stick in jack-o-lanterns

When choosing costumes, stay away from long trailing fabric

Teach children to stay away from open flames, including jack-olanterns with candles in them.

Dried flowers, cornstalks, and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs and heaters

Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume.

Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes. Make sure all smoke alarms are working.

Pre-Register

Nothing cancels a class faster than low enrollment. Each class strives for a minimum level that will cover costs. If you see a class you’re interested in, register early and invite a friend.

Supply Fees

Supply fees cover the cost of materials that are used in classes to present or produce items. Some classes have mandatory supply fees that are required for every class and are included in the registration fee (example: art materials). Mandatory supply fees are always collected with registration and are not paid to the instructor. Some classes have optional supply fees that are not required for every class, or are not required at all (example: martial arts uniform). Optional supply fees will be paid directly to the instructor and are not included in the registration fee.

Hold Harmless Form

Some classes require a parent/guardian to accompany participant to the first class and sign a Hold Harmless form prior to participation. Please check to see if your class has that requirement.

Waitlist Procedure

Anyone can waitlist classes. Waitlists are not rolled over. It is the responsibility of the parent to place their child(ren) on the appropriate list(s). If a client withdraws from a class, the first person on the list is called and has 24 hours to accept or decline.

Receipts

begins August 10!

Standards of Behavior

In an effort to keep costs down, we do not send receipts by mail. Receipts are available by request.

Refunds

Refunds and transfers are granted to cancellations received 72 hours prior to the first class unless otherwise noted in the class description. Failure to attend does not constitute grounds for a refund.

If you are not satisfied with a program, contact the supervisor. The Parks and Recreation Department will declare a refund on a customer account as an unclaimed credit when the refund has not been used or claimed within one year of issue date. Unclaimed credits will be transferred to the Cosumnes Recreation Opportunity Fund.

Fire Department Fee

Participants or those renting CSD facilities that require assistance of the Cosumnes Fire Department for an injury or illness while participating in our programs may be charged fees as part of that response and/or transport. These fees are separate from those paid to use the facility or participate in the program.

Right to Photograph

Cosumnes CSD reserves the right to photograph facilities, activities, and program participants for potential future use in advertising brochures, on the website, or other promotional purposes.

For the enjoyment and safety of everyone, Cosumnes CSD expects all participants to treat people and facilities with respect and abide by all rules and other direction from staff. Cosumnes CSD reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for failure to abide by these standards.

Accommodations

In an effort to meet the needs of the community and in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the CSD wants to ensure that all individuals have access to our programs. We are committed to promote positive participation and a quality experience by providing reasonable accommodations upon request and adaptive recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. To request an accommodation, mark the “accommodations needed” box at time of registration and staff will contact you. Reasonable accommodations will be determined on an individual basis. Please allow at least 3 weeks for your request to be processed. Accommodation Request forms can also be found online at yourcsd.com

The Cosumnes Recreation Opportunity Fund provides financial assistance for low-income residents to participate in recreation activities offered by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Strengthen our community by the simple act of donating a dollar when registering for an activity. Your donation is tax deductible and will provide a chance for children and adults in need to participate in lifelong learning experiences that promote healthy lifestyles.

Cosumnes CSD accepts the first 50 approved applications for each calendar year.

The Cosumnes Legacy Foundation offers options to memorialize an individual, group, or event and contribute to the community through a donation to “Gifts for Tomorrow.”

Each gift improves the high quality park facilities that make Elk Grove a wonderful place to live. Donations can enhance a playground with play features, or increase the appeal of a park.

The Cosumnes

Community Services District (CSD) has been authorized by the California Water Quality Control Board and the federal government to conduct a storm water pollution prevention program at its properties and facilities in southern Sacramento County, including the 100 parks it operates in Elk Grove.

DON’T LITTER

Litter like plastic bottles, fast food wrappers and cups tossed on the ground can carry germs and bacteria.

REPORT ILLEGAL DUMPING

If you see someone dumping trash in one of your CSD parks or an undeveloped site of a future CSD park, call our 24-hour maintenance hotline at (916) 405-5688.

PICK UP AFTER YOUR PET

Pet waste contains disease-carrying bacteria that can pollute our drinking water. Pick up after your pet and remind others to do the same.

PUT YOUR BUTT IN THE TRASH

If you’re a smoker, always put your extinguished cigarette butts in the trash.
