-Reflection Throughout the study of D.D, I gain lots of digital tech skills such as, the first time using Grasshoper and unreal engine, continue studying Rhino skills and also different digital fabrication skills( laser cutting, 3D printing..). As a first year student, I found this course quite hard for me, but also lots of interests as time goes on. I used to be really against new digital tech design, because I think they always to be lack of history backgrounds and culture elements, their only aim is to looks cool. and I used to believe as time goes on, this kind of design is really hard to be immortal as the classics. But during the study, I found these two ideas can be shown at the same time, digital tech is more like a tool for designers to have a better viewing of their design concepts and easier to change the design. In addtion, new digital tech allows designers to achieve various highly challenged design and increase their effciency at the same time. My design aspiration always to be recalling nature back to people’s life and how does it play with the vernacular architecture and traditional handicraft. ‘less is more’ always to be my key idea to be follow with. Instead of focusing of different details, I would rather mainly focusing on the whole design first, and how the atmosphere and experience were created are my key points. In addtion, I also pay attention to energy conservation and environmental friendly design. Although I studied a lot from D.D, but there are still more I need to improve like the digital skills and isometric view choosing and drawing. More important, I believe showing the content of my diagram is the key thing I need to study on, which I always found really difficult to work out. I will continue studying digital slkills and applying them into my future design.

DIAGRAMMING DESIGN PRECEDENT ——Barkow Leibinger- Serpentine Summer House 2016
06
In this module, we digitally modeled a precedent study from orthographic information to explore diagrams as a means of communication. I use plan, section and elevation drawings of the pavilion to build a digital model of the pavilion. I inserted the plan and elevation diagrams into rhino and traced the plan by using polyline command. Then by using extrude and offset surface command to form lines to surfaces and gave them thickness.

GENERATING DESIGN THROUGH DIGITAL PROCESSES IN THIS MODULE, WE EXPLORED DIGITAL FABRICATION AND PARAMETRIC SOFTWARE THROUGH TWO TASKS. TASK 1 REQUIRED FOR LASER CUTTING TECHNIQUES AND TASK 2 FOR 3D PRINTING TECHNIQUES. THE AIM IS TO UNDERSTAND THE ITERATIVE NATURE OF DIGITAL DESIGN AND WORK THROUGH AWORKFLOW FROM DESIGN TO PGYSICAL OUTCOME.

During the task 1 making process, I firstly concentrated on the overall shape of the structure. So I tried several shapes by grasshoper and finally decided on this kind of shape which works like each surface is kind of pulling each other, so they are supported by the other side to creating an internal relations. Futuremore, I applied two different panels to the surfaces in order to form a kind of contrast between them.
The two surfaces of waffle structure has been rotated in order to form a sense of they are pulling each other. Considering about energy consumption, the openings can various between 2D and 3D by different weather conditions. Hence the building can change interior tempurature just by varing the size of the openings. There is no need for air conditioners.

During task 2, I have tried different kinds of geometries to boolean with and finally decide to come back to this most classic geometry. I want to use the simplest sphere to create a kind of mysterious atmosphere just by varying the size of the sphere and link them together. There are only one entrance formed by thee two biggest spheres, and the size of the spheres began to decrease as we go in. There are only two extra openings if we look from outside and the two openings are quite small and simple, this is aimed to create a contrast between the complex interior and clean exterior.
lid d, providing a vs void.
Different size of sphere are linked together, creating continuous space through the whole spaces and in addtion, the height of the structure is always varying, in order to increase the sense of feeling. The size of each sphere were decided by the circulation, so the further the smaller sizes are applied. Threshold has been formed by the combination of different sphere and also by the C shape (enclousure) which provide a strong privacy.
ming a contrast n addtion, hich encourage ehind this facade.
Tiny openings are applied to increase the sense of permeable, but maintain the degree of mysterious and privacy at the same time. Also, they allow a little bit of sunlight get into the interior which are aimed to not directly break down the darkness of the interior spaces and greatly decrease the feeling of fullness and keep the air ventilation.

UNDER CLIFF
UNDER CLIFF IS A PAVILION DESIGN WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE LOCATED IN THE QUEEN VICTORIA GARDEN. MY MAIN DESIGN CONCEPT IS TO CONTINUE THE PREVIOUS PANEL CONCEPT AND BRING MORE VARIATION INTO THE DESIGN,CREATING A SENSE OF VERY STRONG STRENGTH GET IN TOUCH WITH WARMTH. AS THE PANELS' OPENINGS VARYING, AT LUNCH TIME, PEOPLE COULD HAVE LUNCH UNDER THE PAVILION WITHOUT EXPOSED UNDER SUNSHINE. DURING EVENING TIME. THE OPENINGS ARE COMPLETLY OPENED, THERE WOULD HAVE AN EVENING QUARTET PERFORMANCE, WHICH PEOPLE COULD SIT ON THE STONE-MADE STEPS, ALSO ENJOYING THE PERFORMANCE WITH GREAT VIEW CHANGING FROM SUNSET TO STARRY SKY UNDER THE DREAMY SHADOW CREAT BY THE VARYING OPENINGS. THE PAVILION IS DESIGN TO BE COMPLETLY OPENED, AS IT IS AIMED TO MAXIMAMLY GET IN TOUCH WITH NATURE, SO THE STONE-MADE STEPS HAVE BEEN GIVEN. IN ADDITION, THE STEPS ARE NOT ONLY DESIGNED FOR PEOPLE TO SIT, BUT ALSO TO GET CLOSER TO THE PAVILION. THE OVERALL SHAPE OF THE PAVILION HAS BEEN DESIGNED INTO A HORIZONTAL SHAPE WITH REALLY SHARP AND TIN SUPPORTINGS DIRECTLY GET INTOUCH WITH THE STRONG FOUNDATION. IT IS AIM TO MAINTAIN MY CLEAN DESIGN CONCEPT, BUT AT THE SAME TIME MAINTAIN THE STRONG VISUAL IMPACT. THE MATERIAL FOR THE SKELETON IS TIMBER AND THE SURFACE IS BRASS, AS I AIM TO FORM A FEELING OF REALLY STRONG STRENGTH, BUT KEEPING THE SENSE OF WEIGHTLESS AT THE SAME TIME. BRASS IS ALSO A KIND OF MATERIAL WHICH ALWAYS BRING PEOPLE'S MEMORY. IN ADDITION, THE TOASTY TIMBER HAS BEEN APPLIED TO DECREASE THE ICY FEELING BROUGHT BY THE METAL.

The isometric drawing mainly focus on showing the surface and skeleton parts and how do they interact with each other. The circulation and threshold has also been shown in the drawing.
