Week Three
Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age
Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)
The three fundamental type of fabrication techniques that Kolerevic described are: subtractive fabrication which is working based on removing volumes from solid, additive fabrication defines the type of fabrication based on the process of layer adding. The third one is formative fabrication which use heat or steam to achieve deformation. CNC fabrication is the most commonly used type of fabrication techniques which can controlled by computer. It has the big potential as it always saves lots of time, really accurate and easy to operate (change idea, iterations easily).

Week Three
Surface Creation
Firstly, building a 150x150 box, then using the side of the box as parameter. By changing list item and divide curve to change the size and shape of the surface. Finding grasshopper is super convinient for testing and experimenting.
3
Week Four Panels & Waffle
One surface are full of various openings and the other one is almost closed, hence a contrast has formed between this two panel.
Both surfaces are rotating in an angle which is easily to collapse, but they are holding and supporting by each other. Triangular base structure is form in order to give a strong base and creating a threshold at the same time.

Week Four
Laser Cutting
During my laser cut file making process, I found that changing some lines to half cut lines in order to avoid the use of tape. In addition, I found laser cut is super accurate and the corners are very sharp which are much more better than free hand work. Also, it also saves lots of time.
5
Week Five
Building a 150x150 box and dividing them into subunits. Then applied differnt different shapes of geometries into and trying different attraction methods with different results. Also find by chekcing centroid which can clearly show the distribution of the geometries.
6
Week Five
Isometric
My key concept is form a private space which provides people a sense of mysterious. Hence, I designed a clean facade with two entrances which could attract people to look at what are behinds this facade. And just by linking different size of spheres together to form a continuity. The size of sphere various depend on the circulation and threshold analysis ( the further the smaller size of sphere ). Except two entrances, I only applied two tiny openings, in order to allow air ventilation and sunlight come into the interior spaces (not directly) and maintain the privacy and the sense of mysterious at the same time.

Task 01 Matrix The final decision I made depends on how is the relationship between these two surfaces. As the photo shows, both of the surfaces are rotated in angles and they both look to collapse. However, they are pulling each other and supporting each other. So it create a kind of relationship between each other and not just work as two surfaces for the waffle structure, but they are in relation with each other. About the panel, I am trying to create a contrast between closeness and openness. So I made one surface with various openings which could change depends on weather and sunlight. In addition, the openings can also varying between 2D and 3D. The other surface is almost closed and solid form which form a strong contrast.

Task 02 Matrix My main thinking process for task two is using simple element, but by varying the combinations and shapes of the elements to form a complex model with clear oder. Hence, I concenctrated on using point attractions and random attractions and based on circulation and threshold analysis to form a final model.

TASK 2 MODEL DETAIL
11
Appendix Process
Laser cutting the waffle structure and free hand making two panels. The reason for using different method is due to I want to maintain the panel as clean as possible and no obvious cutting lines. In addition, due to my opening strategy, free hand making is more suitable. But waffle structure requires more accurate and sharper work.

Appendix
Process
I found openings on one surface ooks a little bit messy, espacially when it combined with the waffle structure. Just applied tracing papers to the back of the openings to decrease the sense of messy, but keep the light effect create by the openings.
