Below is just a taste of some terrific golf events and programs coming up this season. 2018 Celebrity Member-Guest Tournament will be held June 21-22-23. Our Member Guest Committee is planning another memorable week of golf and fun with friends. Back by popular demand: Hillcrest Top Golf Night on the Range. You and your friends can spend an evening on the range enjoying food, drinks, music and showing off those “mad” golf skills. Look for some improved lighting and a new 3-hole glow golf circuit course. Maybe grab some partners and play in our popular Ladies Stagettes. If you want to play competitively, for fun, or just work on improving your game, we have a program for you. The Hillcrest Ladies’ Golf Committee has the golf schedule set for another fun year. “The Eliminator” in 2018. Thirty-two (32) teams will be seeded into 8 PODS with 4 teams in each pod. Play will begin April 20 and the championship is scheduled August 4th. Please see the ad in this addition of the Highlights for full details. We are now taking sign up for The Eliminator. Don’t miss out! Our very popular Thursday Night Men’s League will begin its seventh season in the spring. We have two sessions with separate sign up and entry fees. Now we are looking to make a run at a state championship, and want to invite our junior boys and girls (ages 7-13) to join in all the excitement of team competition. Each event is a 9-hole team scramble, and each golfer receives a team jersey to wear to our tournament competitions and practices. Please contact Jerad Palmer in the golf shop for more information. Jpalmer@hillcrestcountryclub.com Right now is an excellent time to set some goals for the upcoming season. A few ideas include taking a lesson on your wedge game or driving accuracy. How about entering one of our competitive golf events, or maybe just playing more golf? Your golf shop staff is here to help you achieve your goals for the upcoming season. Best in Golf, Mike

A joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and the PGA of America, the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf. By tapping the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship provides aspiring junior golfers an opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around the country. Participants who advance through local, sub-regional and regional qualifying in each age/gender category earn a place in the National Finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by Golf Channel. A Message From the Director of Tennis

Dear Members, February is one of my favorite months, as two of the most exciting local swim meets happen during this month – The Heartland Athletic Conference High School Championship Meet and The Nebraska State High School Championship Meet. Many current and former Hillcrest swimmers, divers and coaches were at both of these meets; I was especially proud of the sixteen who made it to the State Meet. Thirteen of those athletes made it to the Finals (top sixteen), ten were in the Championship Finals (top eight), and Caroline Theil was the State Champion in the Girls 200 Yard Individual Medley! Congratulations to her, as well as current members and coaches - Emily Artz, Ellie Buresh, Olivia Theil, Sydney Moore, Morgan and Ava Heasty, Molly Zuercher, Erin Mapson, Charles Roberts and Jared Murray, for their success this season! It was also very fun to see Robert Bryant and Crew Keller finish up their college swimming careers (for Nebraska Wesleyan University) at the Liberal Arts Championship Meet in February. They both swam many years for Hillcrest. I am excited to introduce more young members to the sport of swimming this summer, so that they may someday choose to enrich their high school and college educations by participating in such a great sport. Spring is a very good time of year to get younger swimmers into lessons, so that they will be safe in the water or maybe even build up the endurance needed to participate on the swim team. The recommended age to start swim team is six, and our divers must be six years old to compete in the Parks and Recreation League meets. Anyone wanting to join swim team must be able to swim 25 yards on the first day of practice. Registration for summer programs will begin at “Meet the Pros” (Sunday, April 29th). Members who attend “Meet the Pros” will receive two free pool passes for signing up that day. We will have sizing kits available, so team suits can be ordered. The team will be wearing solid navy blue suits with the club logo printed on them; hopefully many of you will be able to use your suits from last season. If you would like to order new suits, which you will receive for the start of the season, you must order by Wednesday, May 9 th. The Capital City Swimming League Championship Meet will be Monday, July 16th. At this time, we are waiting for approval from the University to hold the meet at Bob Devaney. The Championship Dive Meet will be at Woods Pool, on Thursday, July 19th.

A Message From the Aquatics Director

For those members who may be thinking about giving swim or dive team a try this summer, mark your calendars for our pre-season clinics – Saturday, May 26th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (swim) and Tuesday – Friday, May 29th – June 1st, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.(dive). Kris Hoffman, head coach for Nebraska Diving Club and Natasha Chikina, head coach for the University of Nebraska, will be featured coaches for the diving clinic! These clinics are very beneficial to athletes who will be new to the teams, and are open to returning members, as well as anyone just wanting more instruction. Hope to see you in April!
