Dear Members; This edition of Highlights will detail the early season golf events coming this spring. Please take time to review the pages, and make some plans to play at Hillcrest with your family and friends. 2015 Celebrity Member-Guest Tournament will be held July 9-10-11. Our Member Guest Committee is planning another memorable week of golf and fun with friends. Our Committee is looking forward to a MAGICAL weekend.

Director of Golf Mike Brown

Short Game Week at Hillcrest begins April 21st. During the week your professional staff will be offering putting and short game clinics along with fitting featuring Odyssey Putters and Cleveland Wedges. The week will conclude with a family “Short Course” evening on Sunday, April 26 th. Make reservations for the short course, and stop by our “Meet the Pros Night” to sign up for all our tremendous youth summer programs. The Hillcrest Hornets junior golf team is looking to grow this season. The 2014 inaugural season was an awesome experience for players and coaches alike. Now we are looking to make a run at a state championship and want to invite our junior boys and girls (ages 7-13) to join in all the excitement of team competition. Each event is a 9-hole team scramble and each golfer receives a team Hornets jersey to wear to our tournament competitions and practices. Please call the golf shop for more information. New in 2015 for our men’s program is “The Eliminator”, a season long better ball team event. Thirty-two (32) teams will be seeded in a double elimination bracket. Play will begin in May, and the final matches will conclude in August. Please see the ad for full details in this addition of the Highlights. We are now taking sign up for The Eliminator. Don’t miss out! Our very popular Thursday Night Men’s League will begin its fourth season in May. You may sign up beginning March 1st. If your schedule does not permit you to commit to a team, remember you can always sign up as an alternate. The Hillcrest Ladies’ Golf Committee has the golf schedule set for another fun year. Note the additional ladies golf programs we have to offer. Back by popular demand is the Buddy Tournament. The tournament is a season long two-player team match play event. Call the golf shop for more information. If you want to play competitively, for fun, or just work on improving your game, we have a program for you. As a friendly reminder, to participate in golf programs at Hillcrest, we encourage you have an established USGA G.H.I.N. HANDICAP. To enroll in the G.H.I.N. system, please call the golf shop and we will assist you. Also, now is a perfect time to sign up for the Hillcrest Cart Lease Program. The cart program is a cost effective way to ride, and enjoy your golf this season. Now is always an excellent time to set some goals for the upcoming season. A few ideas include taking a lesson on your wedge game or driving accuracy. How about entering one of our competitive golf events, or maybe just playing more golf. Your golf shop staff is here to help you achieve your goals for the upcoming season. Best in Golf,

Hillcrest Highlights

SOLID SHORT GAME = LOWER SCORES Having a solid short game will go a long way to lowing your scores. So choosing the proper wedge is important. There are several companies making fantastic wedges, but when purchasing wedges, you need to have some basic information. 1.

BOUNCE – The angle between the leading edge of the face and the trailing edge of the sole. High Bounce Characteristics: Swing Type - Digger or steeper angle of attack. Higher handicap players will find forgiveness with more bounce. Mid Bounce Characteristics: Swing Type - Neutral or Slider. Will fit many swing types. This bounce provides a perfect combination for types of lies and forgiveness. Low Bounce Characteristics: Swing Type – Slider or shallow angle of attack. This bounce is good for firm condition and tight lies. Fits a smaller group of the golfing public.

2.

LOFTS Make sure to have consistent gaps in the degrees of loft between the pitching wedges and your highest lofted wedge. Titleist recommend you that see gaps of 12-15 yards between your wedges.

TEAM GOLF is for the junior golfer 7-11 years in age for boys and 7 – 13 years in age for girls with beginning level golf experience and offers an introduction to tournament play through 9-hole team competitions. TEAM GOLF will serve as a fun, social and less stressful approach to tournament golf providing juniors with knowledge and skills that encourage long term youth development and a lifetime of golf enjoyment. Our Hillcrest Hornets had great success last year and had a lot of fun! It’s a great way for your Junior Golfer to get involved and improve their Golf game. I’m hoping we can continue to grow and have multiple teams this year. For more information please contact PGA Assistant Jerad Palmer at 402-489-8181 or jpalmer@hillcrestcountryclub.com

Dear Members; The winter short course competitive swim season is drawing to a close, and it has been so fun seeing our current and former Waterbugs (and staff) do so well in their club, high school and collegiate championship meets. Congratulations and good luck as you finish out the season! Aquatics Director Jeanette Keller

Attention current and new team members: Our team suits will be the same as last year but, because it is the second and last year for the girl’s suits, if you need to purchase a new one, you should do so as soon as possible, since they are no longer making them. Nebraska Sports has some team suits and can order male suits, but female suits will probably need to be ordered online. Please keep an eye out in your email for a link to order these suites. We have one pre-season swim team clinic scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd, from 10:00 am—11:00 am This is a great opportunity for anyone new to our swim team to get to know the coaches, and for our younger swimmers to polish up on their strokes before our first practice. (Note: swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards, continuously, to be on the swim team.) Our league recommends swimmers be at least 6 years old, before joining the swim team. Parks and Recreation requires that divers be 6 years old before competing. Our first week of swim team practice (May 26 – 29), will look a little different. Swimmers, age 11–18, will practice from 10:30 am–11:15 am; and our swimmers, age 6 – 10, will practice from 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Mark those calendars! The Championship Swim Meet is Monday, July 13th, and the Championship Dive Meet is Thursday, July 16th. Spring swim lessons are always a great idea, especially for those younger swimmers who may be trying swim team for the first time. Swimmers who learn how to correctly swim breaststroke and butterfly will have a big advantage when competing this summer. Registration for summer programs will begin at Meet the Pros (April 26th). If you need anything before then, my e-mail address is bk04745@windstream.net. Members who sign up for lessons and/or swim or dive team at Meet the Pros will receive 2 free Pool Guest Passes. Hope to see you at Meet the Pros!

Grandchildren Country Club Use Hillcrest Country Club’s board of directors encourages our Grandparent members to share our facility with their families. For this reason we have reduced the greens fee from $48 to $25 and our swim fee is only $2. Recently, we have had many members request that their grandchildren participate on our Swim Team, however, to ensure a positive experience for our entire membership we are unable to accommodate this request.
