Dear Hillcrest Members, Hopefully everyone is successfully braving the winter weather! If you haven’t had a chance to travel to warmer weather, don’t worry we are getting closer and closer to spring. In the last edition of the Highlights details were shared regarding the Clubhouse Remodel. At the time of this writing we are nearing the half way point of the schedule. The remodel completion date is still expected to be early summer and the enhancements are going to be better than originally anticipated! As we look forward to the remodel completion and the beginning of spring, we have many activities to keep you busy. Mike Brown and Jerad Palmer have several golf tournaments/stags/breakfasts and new events scheduled for the year. Jeanette Keller is preparing the Waterbugs for another championship season. Sam Nelson is excited for another tennis season of lessons and events. Kim Cotton and Zach Tyson are anticipating another great year of social events and gatherings at Hillcrest. Our new Chef, Jeramy Behn cannot wait to impress you with his new menu. Please review the following pages with the details of these upcoming events. With all of these great activities, please encourage prospective new members to consider our Club for membership. The following is a list of our newest members. Dear Member; This edition of Highlights will detail the early season golf events coming this spring. Please take time to review the pages, and make some plans to play at Hillcrest with your family and friends. Below is just a taste of some terrific golf events and programs coming up this season. 

2016 Celebrity Member-Guest Tournament will be held June 23-24-25. Our Member Guest Committee is planning another memorable week of golf and fun with friends. Our Committee is looking forward to a GROOVY weekend.

I would like to invite all new golf members to join us for the New Member Scramble on May 6th. This is a fun, relaxed format for all, and a fantastic way to get connected to other members here at Hillcrest. Please call Mike or Jerad in the golf shop for more information.

Our Hillcrest Golf Committee will again present the May Golf Breakfast as an opportunity to play with and meet some new friends at the club. The golf staff will blind draw the pairing for the day’s format. This takes the pressure off you to form a team. Just sign up and discover a few new golf companions. Join us on May 1st for breakfast and golf.

We have a new POD system format for the “The Eliminator” in 2016. Thirty-two (32) teams will be seeded into 8 PODS with 4 teams in each pod. The teams will play a “Round Robin” schedule with one team winning the pod. The POD winners will form an “Elite Eight” bracket and play out the matches. Play will begin May 1st and the championship is scheduled August 6th. Please see the ad in this addition of the Highlights for full details. We are now taking sign-ups for The Eliminator. Don’t miss out!

Our very popular Thursday Night Men’s League will begin its fifth season in May. You may sign up beginning March 1st. If your schedule does not permit you to commit to a team, remember you can always sign up as an alternate.

Ladies, are you looking to commit to playing more golf in 2016? Kick start your season and your goals. Sign up for The Spring Fling on April 30th, or maybe grab a partner and compete in the Buddy Matches all summer. If you want to play competitively, for fun, or just work on improving your game, we have a program for you. The Hillcrest Ladies’ Golf Committee has the golf schedule set for another fun year.

A Message from our A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF General Manager

FRIENDLY REMINDER: To participate in golf programs at Hillcrest, we encourage you to establish a USGA G.H.I.N. HANDICAP. To enroll in the G.H.I.N. system, please call the golf shop and we will assist you. Also, now is a perfect time to sign up for the Hillcrest Cart Lease Program. The cart program is a cost effective way to ride, and enjoy your golf this season.

The Hillcrest Hornets Junior Golf team is now forming. The team made great strides in 2015 winning their first tournament of the year. Now we are looking to make a run at a state championship, and want to invite our junior boys and girls (ages 7-13) to join in all the excitement of team competition. Each event is a 9-hole team scramble, and each golfer receives a team Hornets jersey to wear to our tournament competitions and practices. Please call Jerad Palmer in the golf shop for more information.

Right now is an excellent time to set some goals for the upcoming season. A few ideas include taking a lesson on your wedge game or driving accuracy. How about entering one of our competitive golf events, or maybe just playing more golf? Your golf shop staff is here to help you achieve your goals for the upcoming season. Best in Golf,

Mike

Dear Members, Once again, it has been awesome seeing so many current and former Waterbugs compete during the winter short course season. I always hope that our team members will someday be able to enjoy swimming or diving at the high school and/or college level, and experience the many benefits that the sport has to offer. This will be an especially exciting summer, with the Olympic Swimming Trials returning to Omaha. It will be so much fun to watch Caroline Theil compete in that meet! Spring is a great time to enroll younger swimmers in some lessons to get them ready for the summer swim season. Whether they want to have more success on swim team or just be stronger swimmers, it will help to give them an earlier start on the season. If you have a swimmer, who will be new to our team, we will be having a pre-season swim team clinic on Saturday, May 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This is a great opportunity for our new and younger swimmers to meet the coaches, and get some stroke work and conditioning, in a smaller group. (The first week of practice can look a little crazy, so it is very beneficial to start off in a smaller group setting.) The recommended age to start swim team is six. The City Parks and Recreation League requires that all participants be at least six years old (our divers must follow this rule). Anyone wanting to join swim team must be able to swim 25 yards (freestyle or backstroke), on the first day of practice. Registration for summer programs will begin at “Meet the Pros” (April 24th). Members who sign up for lessons and/or swim or dive team at “Meet the Pros”, will receive 2 free Pool Guest Passes. We will have new team suits this year. Swimmers will be able to try on sizer suits and order them at registration. There will also be a pre-season dive clinic, Tuesday, May 31st through Friday, June 3rd (12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.). This is open to anyone, age 6 – 18, wanting to learn more about diving. Those new to our team, can meet the coaches and try out the sport. It’s also a good time for returning team members to get some additional practice time. Don’t forget to mark those calendars for our Championship Swim Meet – Monday, July 18th , and the Championship Dive Meet – Thursday, July 21st. Looking forward to seeing everyone at “Meet the Pros”!
