Dear Hillcrest Members; At the time of this writing it is seventy-five degrees outside and there are well over one hundred golfers who have enjoyed the spring like weather. Maybe we are experiencing global warming or is this just mother natures way of rewarding us for a job well done. Who knows, but we will take it either way! In the last edition of the Highlights and in your last monthly statement you were informed of our “Communication Plan” for 2017. Several of you have personally updated your membership profiles through our website. Others have returned the information response card and had our staff assist them with their updates. For those of you who have not, we encourage you to get this done as soon as possible as it will allow our staff to provide the improved level of services we are striving for. As a reminder please continue to follow us on:  Facebook—Please follow our Hillcrest Country Club – Lincoln page for the latest updates.  Twitter—Please follow @HillcrestCCNEB for daily Hillcrest news.  Instagram—Please follow hillcrestcclnk for pictures of happenings around the club. With our increased online connection with our membership, this will be the last printed edition of the Hillcrest Highlights that will be directly mailed to you. We will continue to email the Highlights bi-monthly as well as having printed versions throughout the clubhouse. The Highlights will continue to always be available by visiting our website: www.hillcrestcountryclub.com. As mentioned above, spring is off to an early start this year, so now is a great time to encourage those you know to learn more about Hillcrest Country Club. Please share the Membership Initiatives on the following page with your friends and family. We are looking forward to another great Spring and Summer season and our management team is preparing for all of the upcoming activities. Please review our “Save the Date” page and mark your calendar for these exciting events! Sincerely,

A Message From the General Manager

A joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and the PGA of America, the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf. By tapping the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship provides aspiring junior golfers an opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around the country. Participants who advance through local, sub-regional and regional qualifying in each age/gender category earn a place in the National Finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by Golf Channel. Our Hillcrest Golf Committee will again present the May Saturday Golf Breakfast as an opportunity to play with and meet some new friends at the club. The golf staff will blind draw the pairing for the day’s format. This takes the pressure off you to form a team. Just sign up and discover a few new golf companions. Join us on May 6th for breakfast and golf. “The Eliminator” in 2017. Thirty-two (32) teams will be seeded into 8 PODS with 4 teams in each pod. The teams will play a “Round Robin” schedule with one team winning the pod. The POD winners will form an “Elite Eight” bracket and play out the matches. Play will begin April 21 and the championship is scheduled August 5th. Please see the ad in this addition of the Highlights for full details. We are now taking sign up for The Eliminator. Don’t miss out! Our very popular Thursday Night Men’s League will begin its sixth season in the spring with a new format. We have two sessions with separate sign up and entry fees. Session one will begin late April and end early June. Session Two will begin in July and end in August. You may sign up for first session beginning March 1st. The first session will be an individual player league with a quota game format. See the ad in this addition of the Highlights for more information. FRIENDLY REMINDER: To participate in golf programs at Hillcrest, we encourage you to establish a USGA G.H.I.N. HANDICAP. To enroll in the G.H.I.N. system, please call the golf shop and we will assist you. Also, now is a perfect time to sign up for the Hillcrest Cart Lease Program. The cart program is a cost effective way to ride, and enjoy your golf this season. The Hillcrest Hornets junior golf team is now forming. The team made great strides in 2016 with a top 10 finish in the state tournament. Now we are looking to make a run at a state championship, and want to invite our junior boys and girls (ages 7-13) to join in all the excitement of team competition. Each event is a 9-hole team scramble, and each golfer receives a team Hornets jersey to wear to our tournament competitions and practices. Please call Jerad Palmer in the golf shop for more information.

Right now is an excellent time to set some goals for the upcoming season. A few ideas include taking a lesson on your wedge game or driving accuracy. How about entering one of our competitive golf events, or maybe just playing more golf? Your golf shop staff is here to help you achieve your goals for the upcoming season. Best in Golf, Mike

Dear Members, I hope everyone is having a good school year, and surviving the winter months! I was so happy to see so many current and former Waterbugs swimming and diving for their high school teams again this year…and doing so well! Competing for your high school team usually improves grades and has positive effects that will carry on for many years. It has always been a goal of mine to introduce young members to the sport, in hopes that they will go on to enjoy swimming or diving team when they reach high school. Last year was such a great season, it will be hard to top, but there are a lot of awesome ideas that we are hoping to incorporate this summer, which I am really excited about. Spring is the best time of year to get younger swimmers into lessons, so that they will be safe in the water and strong swimmers, (especially if they are thinking of joining the swim team). The recommended age to start swim team is six, and our divers must be six years old to compete in the Parks and Recreation League meets. Anyone wanting to join swim team must be able to swim 25 yards on the first day of practice. Registration for summer programs will begin at “Meet the Pros” (Sunday, April 30th). Members who attend “Meet the Pros” will receive two free pool passes for signing up that day. We will have sizing kits available, so team suits can be ordered. The team will be wearing solid navy blue suits with the club logo printed on them, hopefully many of you will be able to use your suits from last season. The Capital City Swimming League has decided to go back to Bob Devaney for the championship swim meet. At this time, we are waiting for approval from the University. The championship dive meet will be at Ballard this summer, due to a conflicting swim meet at Woods. Hopefully you all have your calendars marked for the championship meet dates: Monday, July 17th (swim) and Thursday, July 20th (dive). For those members who may be thinking about giving swim or dive team a try this summer, mark your calendars for our pre-season clinics – Saturday, May 27th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (swim) and Tuesday – Friday, May 30th – June 2nd, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. (dive). These are very beneficial to athletes who will be new to the teams. Hope to see you in April! Jeanette Keller Aquatics Director
