Zardozi traveled to the motherland recently. For some of our team members it was the first time to India. But something about being there felt like home. There was a sense of belonging, in a place that we had heard about so many times and one, which we use as constant inspiration for Zardozi. India bombarded us with a blur of colour, sights and sounds. From the runways of the Lakme shows to the beautiful blend of East and West style seen on the streets of Mumbai and the traditional chaniya cholis and arms full of bangles in the narrow gullies of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Even the women picking up trash along the seaside wore colourful saris and smiled brightly, taking pride in their work to keep their city clean. In the village school, the little girls had pretty nose and ear piercings. Beautiful fashion inspiration lies everywhere in this mysterious place. It was like taking a step back into time, while also seeing the full force of modernity, melded together in a perfect balance. In Porbandar, Gujarat, we saw walls covered with murals about women's empowerment, urgining passersby to uplift the girl child. Women in South Asia are fighting to break the mould. Like the first female surfer in Bangladesh or the women in slums bringing sanitation practices to their families and communities. Our trip brought us back home with a renewed desire to bring you the most interesting stories and latest fashion trends. Whether it is a trip to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or one of the many other countries where we find the South Asian diaspora, Zardozi women are embracing many cultures while staying true to their South Asian roots and continuing to push the boundaries of Zardozi woman power. We hope to continue to bring that blend to you our beloved readers, who always inspire us with their stories of courage and strength. BEAUTY IN SIMPLICITY Madsam Tinzin's designs focus on delicate hand embroidery and silhouettes, which flatter the curves of Indian women.

STARLET WITH A HALO
The ladies of Madsam Tinzin – Madhuritu Dutta (MAD), Saumya Sharma (SAM), Tina Bhardwaj (TIN) and Stanzin Dazes (ZIN) – have helped many brides realize their vision of simple modern style. Aside from dressing the everyday modern woman, one of the kindest celebrities they have dressed is none other than Sonam Kapoor. “It was really easy for her to be convinced with our outfits as her sensibility matches our brand," says Tina. "Also, she is a perfect model size so fittings were hardly an issue with her. Last, but not least, seeing your creation looking splendid on anyone makes one really satisfied!”
2 FAIRYTALE WEDDING VENUE According to bridalwear designer Prathyusha Garimella, "India is a beautiful country and there is no shortage of breathtaking locations. Some of my favourite venues are Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur and the Taj Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur. They are truly fairytale like and beautiful."

MUSIC INSPIRED DESIGN Observation is the key to Munkee.See. Munkee.Doo.'s designs. "Our day-to-day lives — the people we meet, the things we see around us, the places we visit, etc. The process for most of our collection starts with a feeling, music (influences a large part of our designs), brainstorming and bouncing ideas off each other. The fact that it is so diverse and in turn a melting point of so many cultures, really changes your perception when it comes to designing. modernity. How does Indian culture influence your designs? Art, architecture, interiors, history, travel, Maharajas; my inspiration comes from many things. Sometimes it’s from beautiful inlay work I have seen in a fabulous monument. Other times my inspiration can be something as simple as a beautiful kanjeevaram weave.
My father sent me abroad to pursue a degree in Business Management from The Wharton School of Business. After returning to India, I saw a vast potential in the fine clothing and couture industry that was evolving in the country and in 1987 I opened India’s first multi-designer boutique, Ensemble along with Rohit Khosla and my wife Sal. From the very beginning, I was attracted to the draped form. The sari, as worn on the body, is an incredible influence on me because of the way it wraps and moulds on different people. Describe the first time you sewed or sketched a design. I have always sketched fashion from the time 63

Ultimately my inspiration comes from India’s rich traditions of craftsmanship, particularly when it comes to things like embroideries. Nothing is more amazing than a beautifully executed, intricate, fine technique. Who is the Tarun Tahiliani bride? My bridal couture imbues the bride with elements of romance, mystery and sensuality. The Tarun Tahiliani bride loves quality and fit and knows style is not just what one wears, but how one wears it. They live in their heritage and yet they are also modern. They are individualistic and flexible as time changes. The brides draw their allure and confidence from the Tarun Tahiliani brand — which is a modern Indian love story and romance is

Clothes have to have lightness and a comfort
The Tarun Tahiliani brand has set out to create the ultimate India Modern. We are a brand with a view in the present moment, but ultimately much steeped in the Indian traditions of draped form and the techniques

At the sangeet, I think, that’s the one thing in which lehenga suits best because there is nothing prettier than to see a lehenga in motion, twirling when people are dancing. For the reception, I think the current silhouette in vogue is the long coat worn over a slim, but full lehenga, nothing too voluminous, but again I think a modern day anarkali and a beautiful sari drape works best because if it is fantastically draped. Adult acne can have a negative effect on your self-

THE FABRIC OF INDIA Most of us remember looking in our Mom’s sari closets in awe as kids, hoping to one day wear something from her colourful and classic wardrobe. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England is bringing that love for Indian textiles to its Fabric of India exhibition running from October till January, 2016.

The Fabric of India is supported by Good Earth India, with thanks to Experion and Nirav Modi.
Much of India’s textile heritage has survived thousands of years, even through British imperialism. Mahatma Gandhi used the fabrics as a symbol of unity for the Indian people. Exhibiting more than 200 textiles from the silks of Assam to the cottons of Bengal, visitors will get a glimpse into India's many cultures and climates. Pieces include fabrics used

CELEBRATED KARACHI-BASED EVENT DESIGNER AARIJ HASHMI HAS TRANSFORMED ALMOST 100 EVENT SPACES FOR PAKISTAN’S ELITE. FALL UNDER HIS SPELL WITH US AS WE TAKE A WALK THROUGH HIS ENCHANTED WORLD. What drives your passion for events? I love transforming spaces, probably because of my background as an architect. There is nothing more gratifying than hearing people gasp and say "wow" the minute they walk into one of our spaces. As soon as I wrap up an event I'm itching to design another one!

between two 12ft trees covered in cherry blossoms and hanging tea lights. The idea was to create an illusion of fireflies. The separate entrances of the bride and groom, especially at the mendhi, are always fun too. I have seen people enter on camels, horses, cycles, rickshaws and elevated platforms. Which big names have you worked with? Earlier this year I was asked to conceptualize and execute the mendhi event for one of Pakistan’s leading actresses, Sanam Saeed. She was a delight to work with! Sanam wanted an intimate Bohemian chic mendhi and it has been one of my favourite events to date. I have worked with Nida Butt, one of Pakistan's leading theater directors, known for bringing Grease and Mamma Mia to Pakistan. I have also had the privilege of working very closely with Pakistan's legendary fashion designer Maheen Khan. I have done a few shows and photo shoots with her where I was in charge of set design and art direction.

From the Groom's Perspective

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FOR THE BRIDE " Seeing the groom arrive (outside on horseback) just before the ceremony!" — Mamta
ONE THING YOU LEARNT From the Bride's Perspective It’s tough to get people to follow timelines at Indian weddings. Parents are too busy playing host. Regardless, remember it’s your day so it’s OK to be a little selfish!
