London International Airport
LONDON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT This revitalized Southern Ontario regional airport facility is now capable of servicing airlines on a domestic and international/ trans-border/charter basis. The $20M expansion of the passenger terminal was a result of increased passenger loads and a desire to re-brand its public image within the aviation and business industry. As a means of addressing this challenge the new addition stretches across the groundside faรงade of the existing terminal providing a new entrance concourse, enlarged passenger holding room, new departure and arrival gates and offices for the Airport Authority.

REGION OF WATERLOO INT. AIRPORT The re-building of this new terminal was completed to serve one of the fastest developing technology urban centres in Canada. Previously serving as a regional airport, the capacity of the $5M terminal was expanded to support current domestic operations and also serve international flights. The terminal’s modern design strives to make a strong connection between the passenger and the excitement of the airfield while also providing efficient and innovative security screening solutions. UNION STATION INTERIOR RENOVATIONS (VIA RAIL) Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, Union Station is the largest and busiest rail station in Canada, serving millions of commuters each day, in spite of its current operational inadequacies. With it’s historical status protected under the federal Heritage Act, the station is subject to strict guidelines guarding any physical changes that would be construed as affecting it’s status as one the country’s foremost examples of architecture. Originally designed in the Classical revival style developed by the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, our design challenge included the design of new customer service stations flanking one side of the magnificent Great Hall.

ZURAKOWSKI PARK INTERPRETIVE CENTRE This new complex will provide a fitting tribute to Janusz Zurakowski, local resident and world-renowned test pilot for the Avro Arrow jet fighter aircraft, the most storied and notable development in Canada’s supersonic jet history. Located on a vacant triangular site at the centre of Town, the complex will include an interpretive centre whose roof archs up towards a large scale replica of the Arrow aircraft and a statue of Zurakowski. Taking cues from the industrial design qualities of the jet, the building derives its built form as a succession of five wings, profiling the scale of the plane’s Delta wing.

PIA AREA 6A/6B MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT STUDY With the impending completion of the new, flagship Terminal 1 at Pearson International Airport (PIA), this study examined the development potential of two large development blocks commonly referred to as Area 6A and 6B. Optimally positioned within the Greater Toronto Transit Authority owned lands, these development blocks are also serviced by a new Automated People Mover that links Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. With these links now in place, and future links to Toronto’s Central Business District in the planning stages, the best use of this property was studied from a land use, economic and urban planning perspective.

GTAA BOEING LAND-USE STUDY This development plan applies to the Boeing Property bounded in the north and east by Derry Road and Airport Road and to the south and west by GTAA lands. The Property provided excellent potential for the development of the airport and air carrier related facilities such as hangars, cargo and other aircraft maintenance/ repair and airport support facilities. These new development opportunities arise from the proximity of the parcels to the airside system of runways and taxiways at Lester B. Pearson International Airport. These initial ideas formed the starting point for this site-specific concept plan development process.
