Sir John A. Macdonald Public School
SIR JOHN A. MACDONALD PUBLIC SCHOOL The design represents the successful resolution of issues related to forming a new school for two distinct former school communities, creating the welcoming feel of a small school, fitting into a new low rise residential development, and designing a first rate learning environment. The consolidation of two schools and new growth in the immediate area of the site created the opportunity for the board to build the new school. A key challenge was to lead an extensive community engagement process to distil the critical needs and priorities. Though this involved process a design developed that has been recognised as a welcoming and improved home for the united school community.

ST. Connection is achieved through a compact plan that locates a nonwalled library at its core. In combination with an adjacent exterior courtyard, the library achieves a more direct connection with the classrooms that surround its perimeter. This planning approach has promoted enhanced interaction between the grade levels as well as maximizing the amount of useable area for instruction.
