LE SIMONA dans la ville, Œil de l’architecte 3, voir c’est comprendre Une nouvelle tour est née à Monaco, une architecture minérale qui parle contemporain et érige une nouvelle verticalité, sculpturale et élégante, dans un paysage urbain déjà dense. Conçue par Jean Pierre Lott avec Suzanne Belaieff, architecte associée dans l’opération, la tour est un hommage à la lumière, au paysage méditerranéen, aux vastes panoramas qu’offre ce site d’exception. La verticalité s’articule autour de deux volumes travaillés dans la masse, reliés par des passerelles légères. La plasticité des façades est exaltée par les ondulations des parois en béton, par la résille géométrique en mosaïque blanche des brise-soleils qui protègent les terrasses, par le jeu des petites fenêtres qui rythment les parois des deux tours. Le Simona est un projet audacieux qui naît de l’intuition et de la clairvoyance de J.B. Pastor & Fils, constructeur monégasque d’envergure internationale, sensible au futur et au renouvellement urbain de la Principauté. En réinventant les codes de l’habitat contemporain et en réécrivant le rapport entre dimension verticale et unicité du site, Le Simona donne naissance à une autre conception de la ville. Et c’est précisément de cette nouvelle perception - née de l’inscription de l’architecture dans son contexte - que nous parle la belle exposition photographique présentée par Suzanne Belaieff dans sa galerie Artsz à Monaco. Les images saisissent la spécificité de la dimension bâtie, générée par les relations volumétriques et spatiales, les contrastes et les similarités entre la plasticité de la tour et un territoire densément bâti où l’hétérogénéité stylistique cohabite avec l’histoire, la modernité et l’unicité du paysage naturel.

LE SIMONA nella città, l’Occhio dell’architetto 3, vedere è capire A Monaco è nata una nuova torre, un’architettura minerale che parla contemporaneo e innalza una nuova verticalità, scultoria ed elegante, in un territorio densamente edificato. Progettato da Jean Pierre Lott con Suzanne Belaieff, architetto associato, l’edificio è un omaggio alla luce, al paesaggio mediterraneo, agli ampi panorami che offre l’eccezionalità del sito. La verticalità è declinata su due volumi, articolati da un sistema di sottili passerelle e lavorati nella materia. La plasticità delle facciate è esaltata dalla sinuosità delle pareti in cemento, dal traforo geometrico in mosaico bianco dei brise-soleil che proteggono le terrazze, dal gioco delle forature aleatorie che ritmano le pareti delle due torri. Le Simona è un progetto coraggioso che nasce dall’intuito e dalla lungimiranza di J.B. Pastor & Fils, storico costruttore monegasco di apertura internazionale, sensibile al futuro e al rinnovamento urbanistico del Principato. Reinventando i codici dell’habitat contemporaneo e riscrivendo la relazione tra dimensione verticale e unicità del sito, Le Simona dà vita a una diversa concezione urbana. E’ proprio su questa nuova percezione - nata dalla inscrizione dell’architettura nel suo contesto - che si concentra la bella mostra fotografica presentata da Suzanne Belaieff nella sua galleria Artsz di Monaco. Le immagini colgono la peculiarità della dimensione costruita che si genera dai rapporti spaziali e volumetrici, dai contrasti e dalle assonanze tra la plasticità della torre e un territorio iper-edificato dove convivono eterogeneità stilistica, compresenza tra storia e modernità e unicità del paesaggio naturale.

LE SIMONA in the city, the architect’s Eye 3, seeing is understanding A new tower has risen up in Monaco, a mineral work of architecture that talks a modern-day idiom as it projects upwards with great sculptural elegance in a densely built-up setting. Designed by Jean Pierre Lott with Suzanne Belaieff, associated architect, the building is a tribute to light, the Mediterranean landscape and the beautiful views offered by this exceptional location. Verticality takes the form of two sculpted volumes set out by means of a system of narrow pathways. The plasticity of the facades is exalted by the sinuosity of the concrete walls, by the geometric perforation of the white mosaic shutters protecting the terraces, and the interplay of airy holes setting the pattern of walls on the two towers. Le Simona is a bold project deriving from the farsightedness of J.B. Pastor & Fils, a famous old builder from Monaco open to international input and with an eye to the future and the urban redevelopment of the Principality.

By reinventing the codes of modern-day living and rewriting the relationship between verticality and the uniqueness of this site, Le Simona offer a different concept of the cityscape. A delightful photographic exhibition organised by Suzanne Belaieff in her Artsz Gallery in Monaco is based around this new means of perception - deriving from the way in which the architecture is inscribed in its setting. “VIVERE IN VIA CAMPARI“ est la dénomination de l’ensemble résidentiel “Le residenze di via Campari in Milano-Sesto San Giovanni”, un important projet de requalification conçu par Mario Botta et Giancarlo Marzorati, et réalisé par Moretti Real Estate à l’intérieur d’une aire verte de plus de 6 000 m², à côté du headquarter de Campari. Les deux édifices qui le composent sont le résultat du savoir-faire, de la culture de l'habitat et de l'expérience de Moretti dans le secteur des resorts. Et c'est en accord avec le maître d’ouvrage que Moretti Real Estate propose, en collaboration avec Cristiana Vannini, un programme sophistiqué d'interior design qui prévoit six habitations différentes, afin d'offrir des solutions et des choix en termes de finitions et de décorations intérieures.

Le programme d'interior design, fruit de recherches formelles, comportementales et philosophiques sophistiquées, s'articule en deux cadres conceptuels : spatial/formel et psychologique/interprétatif, avec l'intention d'assurer identité et personnalisation.

“VIVERE IN VIA CAMPARI ” è una puntualizzazione riferita a “Le residenze di via Campari in Milano- Sesto San Giovanni”: importante progetto di riqualificazione costruito da Moretti Real Estate su progetto di Mario Botta e Giancarlo Marzorati, esteso in un’area verde di oltre 6.000 m2, accanto al headquarter della Campari. Si tratta di due edifici dove la capacità del fare edilizia, la cultura dell’abitare e l’esperienza dell’accoglienza nel campo dei resort proprie di Moretti, determinano un riferimento singolare e intelligente. Ed è nel piano di consulenza al cliente, come completamento al percorso di acquisto, che Moretti Real Estate propone, in collaborazione con Cristiana Vannini, un sofisticato programma di interior design che prevede sei differenti ambientazioni, per offrire soluzioni e scelte in termini di rifiniture e arredi interni. “LIVING IN VIA CAMPARI” is a sort of clarification referred to the “residential buildings in via Campari in Milan-Sesto San Giovanni”, an important redevelopment project built by Moretti Real Estate and designed by Mario Botta and Giancarlo Marzorati, covering over 6,000 m2 of a green area adjacent to the Campari Headquarters. These two buildings are proof of Moretti’s building ability, his feel for the culture of housing and his experience in the sphere of resorts, defining a singular, intelligent point of reference.

And it is in the field of customer consultancy, as a completion of the buying process, that, in cooperation with Cristiana Vannini, Moretti Real Estate proposes a sophisticated interior design plan for six different areas, offering a wide range of solutions and choice in terms of finishes and interior furnishings. Il s'agit d'une cuisine industrielle, mais bien moins rigide, qui répond davantage aux caractéristiques techniques de la cuisine traditionnelle, grâce à une logistique structurelle assurée par les nouveaux plans techniques Rossana, élaborés en fonction d'une potentialité exclusive. Le projet prévoit des zones de travail distinctes et spécifiques : préparation, l’AI 112

cuisson et lavage; conçues selon des critères rationnels et pratiques. En effet, ses divers composants, tels que ses feux, suivent des distributions raisonnées et variées (grill, gaz, induction, wok, salamandre). TK38 est modulable dans de nombreuses versions.

TK38 È LA NUOVA CUCINA di Rossana disegnata da Massimo Castagna. Si tratta di una cucina industriale, formalmente meno rigida e più rispondente alle caratteristiche tecniche di quella tradizionale, dotata di una logistica strutturale assicurata dai nuovi piani tecnici Rossana, predisposti in funzione di esclusiva potenzialità. Il progetto prevede zone di lavoro distinte e dedicate: preparazione, cottura e lavaggio secondo criteri razionali e di praticità. Infatti i vari componenti, a esempio i fuochi, seguono distribuzioni ragionate e varie (griglia, gas, induzione, wok, salamandra). TK38 è componibile in numerose versioni.

TK38 IS A NEW KITCHEN designed

by Massimo Castagna for Rossana which meets the needs of those who have a passion for cooking or are already accomplished cooks. Although it is an industrial kitchen, it has a softer look, and has the technical characteristics of a domestic kitchen, with a logistic layout guaranteed by the new Rossana designs, which are laid out for full potential.

The kitchen is organized in distinct areas devoted to different functions: preparation, cooking, and washing, following standards of rationality and practicality. Indeed, the various components - for instance the burners - are arranged according to various well-reasoned plans (grill, gas, induction, salamander, wok). TK38 is modular and is thus adaptable. rossana.it RÉALISÉES DANS LE cadre du partenariat qui s'est établi entre Lea Ceramiche et Lago, les nouvelles collections N.O.W Line, Drunk et 36e8 dessinées par Daniele Lago ont été présentées en janvier dernier au salon de la décoration Imm Cologne. Line, Drunk e 36e8, disegnate da Daniele Lago, sono state presentate lo scorso gennaio al salone dell’arredamento Imm Cologne. Concepite come alternativa qualificante per ambiti residenziali raffinati, le collezioni consentono composizioni d’arredo singolari che si possono combinare con pavimentazioni e rivestimenti secondo esclusivi preziosismi e personalizzazioni. Le due collezioni danno soluzione a interventi ceramici non convenzionali, secondo varie modularità e concetti propri sia di Lea Ceramiche sia di Lago, con il proposito di conferire caratteristiche di unicità e riferimenti paragonabili ai complementi d’arredo.

MASSIMILIANO e Doriana Fuksas hanno vinto il concorso internazionale per la progettazione del “Moscow Polytechnic Museum and Educational Centre” di Mosca, un edifico di circa 40.000 mq che sorgerà nell’area delle Colline dei Passeri, a 10 km circa dalla Piazza Rossa. Il progetto è composto da quattro elementi dalla geometria irregolare, interamente rivestiti in rame preossidato che rimanda screziature tra il verde e l’azzurro.

Le second prix a été attribué à Uleia Andrei, Traian Bompa, Cristina Chelarescu, et le troisième à Kizis Ioannis, Kizis Konstantinos, Mpelavilas Nikolaos, Trova, Vasileia.

Le projet lauréat propose un volume dont le contenu semble s'écouler vers l’extérieur se métamorphosant en une forme organique semblable à la coque d'un bateau ou à un monstre marin. La plasticité et le caractère moderne de cette forme métallique contrastent de façon dialectique avec la rigueur cartésienne du bloc monolithique de béton du bâtiment existant.

IL TEAM COMPOSTO da Evangelos Antonopoulos, Vetta Thalia, Gavalas Georgios, Riga Maria Kiriaki, Stamouli Anastasia, Pilarinou Maria ha vinto il concorso internazionale di architettura “Costa Culturale del Pireo - Museo di Antichità Sottomarine”. Il concorso richiedeva il progetto per la conversione di un impianto industriale esistente nel porto del Pireo, in Grecia, in un museo di antichità sottomarine con la risistemazione degli spazi pubblici per le attività all’aperto.

Il 2° premio è stato assegnato a Uleia Andrei, Traian Bompa, Cristina Chelarescu, e il 3° a Kizis Ioannis, Kizis Konstantinos, Mpelavilas Nikolaos, Trova Vasileia. Il contenuto dell'edificio assume una forma organica che fluisce verso l'esterno, simile allo scafo di una nave o a un mostro marino. La plasticità e il carattere moderno di questa forma metallica contrasta in modo dialettico con il rigore cartesiano del blocco monolitico di calcestruzzo dell’edificio esistente.

CETTE MAISON unifamiliale s’inspire, dans ses formes douces et sinueuses, des collines qui caractérisent le paysage de Montecucco (PU).

Son volume évoque les principes de l’architecture organique. Le bâtiment, au sommet d’un doux relief, a une forme étroite et allongée qui favorise les vues panoramiques sur la vallée au nord-ouest et sur la mer, au nord-est.

Le rapport avec le paysage est exalté à l’intérieur grâce à un séjour-repascuisson en communication directe avec la chambre-séjour. Un petit escalier en fer conduit au premier étage où est situé le bureau-séjour; positionné transversalement à environ la moitié du séjour, l’escalier sépare la zone repascuisson du séjour tout en permettant une continuité visuelle de l’espace caractérisé par une poutre cintrée en bois lamellaire apparente, tout comme la charpente de la toiture. De cette zone on accède au balcon qui conduit, par deux petites marches, à la terrasse panoramique.

Si tratta di un edificio-impalcatura che richiama la fragilità umana rispetto alla natura. La struttura è composta da 5 pareti strutturali di 170 m di lunghezza e 20 metri di altezza, a 5,40 m l’una dall’altra, che creano una sorta di passerella sospesa sul paesaggio di Rio. I volumi delle sale espositive agiscono come rinforzo di tutta la struttura, irrigidendola. I materiali utilizzati sono riciclati e riciclabili al 100%.

QUESTA VILLETTA unifamiliare si ispira nelle sue forme alle dolci sinuosità delle colline che caratterizzano il paesaggio di Montecucco (PU), cercando di rispettare il principio dell’architettura organica. L’edificio, sulla sommità di un dolce rilievo, ha una forma stretta e lunga che favorisce viste panoramiche sia verso la vallata a nord-ovest sia verso il mare nordest. La distribuzione interna esalta la vista della vallata attraverso la scelta di avere il soggiorno-pranzo-cottura in comunicazione diretta con la camera matrimoniale-soggiorno con una parete scorrevole larga più di tre metri. Una scaletta in ferro porta al primo piano dove è ricavato lo studio-soggiorno; posizionata trasversalmente a circa metà del soggiorno, la scala divide la zona pranzo-cottura dal soggiorno ma lascia la continuità visiva di tutto l’ambiente caratterizzato dalla trave curva in legno lamellare lasciata a vista così come tutto l’assito di copertura. Da questo locale si accede al balcone esterno che porta poi, con due scalini, alla terrazza panoramica.

CONSTRUIT EN Savoie, à 1200 m d’altitude, Mineral Lodge est un chalet contemporain conçu par Christian Girard & Andrew Benjamin. Refuge de pierre et de roche, cet édifice hors norme par rapport à la tradition locale, s’inscrit dans un paysage spectaculaire dialoguant avec l’architecture vernaculaire. A l’intérieur du nouveau chalet, trios étages et une muraille de pierre, témoignage de la présence d’un ancien chalet, est laissée apparente. L’enjeu consista à faire émerger le Mineral Lodge de la ruine préexistante, pour proposer une reconversion sur ces traces: d’une certaine façon il s’agissait de faire advenir de l’architecture là où il n’y avait que de la construction.

Un cube en bois qui se projette à partir du séjour vitré de l’étage devient l’emblème fort du chalet, sa référence. Le ménagement de prises de vues sur le paysage et les séquences des parcours intérieurs ont orienté la définition des espaces.

La limite de hauteur imposée a suscité un jeu de niveaux enrichissant la proposition spatiale: des passerelles en escalier permettent de rattraper les différences de niveaux entre les nouveaux planchers et ceux de l’ancien chalet et dynamisent la projection verticale des espaces éclairés par une verrière zénithale.

This building, a shelter made of rock and stone, stands out from local building tradition in a spectacular setting that allows it to interact with vernacular architecture. A long vertical fault defines the physical link with the remains of an old neighbouring chalet. A stone wall inside the new chalet, evoking the presence of the old chalet, has been left exposed.

The building appears to emerge from the old ruins, offering a sort of brand-new architectural rendition of the previous structure.

A wooden cube projecting out of the glazed lounge on the first floor symbolises and is the most distinctive feature of the new chalet. The

arrangement of views across the landscape and sequence of interior corridors set the guidelines for the spatial layout. La structure sera composée de tubes en aluminium et de matériaux recyclables. Klimoski et Chang travailleront avec des écoles et des organisations locales afin de recueillir les 53 780 bouteilles d'eau et de lait nécessaires pour créer Heads in the Cloud. Les bouteilles seront utilisées afin de créer les 120 “coussins” qui donneront au nuage sa forme organique et irrégulière. The structure will be made from aluminum tubes and recyclable materials. Klimoski and Chang will work with schools and local organizations to collect the 53,780 milk jugs and water bottles needed to create Head in the Clouds. The jugs will be used to create 120 “pillows” that will give the cloud its bumpy, organic shape. The bottles, accentuated with organic food coloring and water, will create the interior’s blue hue.

Pourtant, ces objets occupent une place cruciale dans notre existence et leur design est destiné à fixer les images et les expériences sur lesquelles se sont formées des générations entières. Ce volume richement illustré est donc le bienvenu, il documente la production de jouets en Italie durant la première moitié du XXe siècle, en en définissant les principales typologies et en fournissant des approfondissements opportuns sur des épisodes typiquement nationaux (le personnage de Pinocchio et la production de’Eugenio Tavolara).

Non sono molti gli studi e le rassegne dedicati ai giocattoli.

Eppure questi oggetti occupano un posto cruciale nella nostra esistenza, e il loro design è destinato a fissare immagini ed esperienze sulle quali si sono formate intere generazioni.

Ben venga dunque questo volume riccamente illustrato, che documenta la produzione di balocchi in Italia nella prima metà del XX secolo, definendone le principali tipologie e fornendo opportuni approfondimenti su episodi tipicamente nazionali (la figura di Pinocchio e la produzione di Eugenio Tavolara).

Les automobilistes, et par extrapolation tous les pratiquants de l’espace urbain ont accepté de lui céder une partie de leur liberté d’avancer ou non, en échange d’une circulation facilitée.

Empathie, puisque c’était le thème commun à la Biennale Internationale Design de Saint-Etienne et à Lyon City Design ; alors, comment porter un regard nouveau sur cet élément devenu anodin aux yeux des usagers et pourtant primordial à leur valse quotidienne ?

Sous l’impulsion de Créad, l’école d’Architecture Intérieure & Design dans laquelle ils étudient, Mathieu Poyet et Franoois-;avier Paire ont pro¿té de l’appel à projet de Lyon City Design et du cours de design produit de Frédéric Limonet pour réinventer le feu tricolore. Voilà que notre soleil n’est plus bon qu’à chauffer sa carcasse métallique, il le fait dorénavant fonctionner. Exit les ampoules, place aux LED moins énergivores, plus durables, mieux vues, de plus loin.

Un procédé propre, gratuit et inépuisable adapté à un élément de tous les jours, dans toutes les villes, qui met en évidence l’idiotie partagée de ne pas y avoir pensé avant.

Dans une époque de concession, il me semble que ce projet porte en lui la capacité de satisfaire tout un chacun.

Alors oui, nos deux étudiants Créadiens ont su défendre avec succès leur projet devant un jury de professionnels en janvier dernier. 2ui, ils ont pu concevoir un prototype de leur feu grâce aux fonds octroyés par le concours et par Créad. Et en¿n oui, ils ont été récompensés du prix de la ville de Lyon dans le cadre du concours Lyon City Design.

Grazie all’impulso di Créad, la scuola di architettura d’interni e di design dove studiano, Mathieu Poyet e Franoois-;avier Paire hanno appro¿ttato del concorso di Lyon City Design e del corso di design-prodotto di Frédéric Limonet per reinventare il semaforo. Così, ecco che il sole non serve più a riscaldare solamente il corpo metallico del semaforo, ma lo fa anche funzionare. Eliminate le lampadine, posto ai Led meno energivori, più sostenibili e più visibili anche da lontano. Un’idea pulita, economica e inesauribile adatta a un elemento del nostro quotidiano, proprio di ogni città, che non giusti¿ca il fatto di non averci pensato prima. In un’epoca di concessioni, questo progetto porta in sé la capacità di soddisfare chiunque. Nel gennaio scorso, gli studenti di Créad hanno difeso con successo il loro progetto di fronte a una giuria di professionisti e sono riusciti a progettare un prototipo del loro semaforo grazie ai fondi messi a disposizione dal concorso e da Créad. E a coronare la loro intuizione, il riconoscimento del premio della città di Lione nel quadro del concorso Lyon City Design.

Traf¿c lights are the embodiment of Hobbes’s Leviathan located at every crossroads.

Car drivers (and, by extrapolation, everybody using urban space) willingly concede at least part of their freedom to move forwards or not to these devices, in exchange for easier circulation.

Empathy was the common denominator of the International Design Biennial in SaintEtienne and Lyon city design. So how can this landmark that has become so dull and insigni¿cant in the eyes of passers-by, despite the fact they come across it everywhere during their everyday comings-and-goings, be projected into a fresh dimension?

Thanks to input from Créad, the school of interior architecture and design where they study, Mathieu Poyet and Franoois-;avier Paire have reinvented the traf¿c light as their entry in a competition organised by Lyon City Design and the design course headed by Frédéric Limonet. Sunlight no longer merely serves to warm up the metal structure of a traf¿c light, it now even helps it function. Traf¿c light poles have been replaced by less energy-hungry LEDs that are more sustainable and easier to see from a distance. A clean, economical and enduring idea, ideal for something that is part of our everyday life in every city that should have been thought of before now. In an age of concessions, this project embodies a capacity to satisfy everybody’s needs. Last January the students at Créad successfully presented their project to a panel of professional judges, even designing a prototype for their traf¿c light thanks to funding from the competition and from Créad. To crown their achievement they were awarded the City of Lyon Prize as part of the Lyon City Design competition.

numeri dello sviluppo urbanistico asiatico rispetto a quello Europeo sono incredibili: 5 volte piÚ veloce, in 20 anni è successo quello che in Europa si è fatto in 100 anni; 8 volte maggiore, 23 città che superano i 5 milioni di persone in Cina mentre solo 3 città in tutta Europa, e tutto ciò interessa una popolazione 2 volte maggiore, 731 milioni in Europa e 1.342 miliardi in Cina.

Attualmente, la popolazione urbana ha superato la popolazione rurale portandosi al 51%. Si calcola che questa arriverà all’83% nel 2035 quando il processo si stabilizzerà . La popolazione urbana richiede servizi e infrastrutture determinando un approccio progettuale basato sui grandi numeri.

Negli scritti di Yung Ho Chang, architetto e teorico Cinese, emerge il messaggio della necessità di un’architettura di critica che vada contro la situazione consumistica attuale attraverso l’autonomia dell’architettura, forme radicali e uso dell’architettura vernacolare.

Peter Eisenman, nell’articolo “Critical Architecture in a Geopolitical Worldâ€?, solleva la problematica della mancanza teorica nell’architettura Cinese causata GDOO¡LQĂ XHQ]D GHL IDWWRUL HFRQRPLFL Koolhass parla di una necessitĂ di essere attenti questi fenomeni emergenti, di studiarli da un punto di vista teorico, è atteggiamento necessario per rinnovare la professione dell’architetto e mantenere uno spirito critico. Lo stravolgimento culturale delle ultime generazioni ha portato a un’architettura ibrida, in cui il marketing orienta il progetto. I grandi numeri del teorema architettonico cinese, le Olimpiadi e l’Expo, il boom economico, creano possibilitĂ e bisogno di costruire. Ma la Cina è ancora li, da quando ha aperto le porte all’occidente, a cercare di capire quale sia la sua architettura.

architects account for 1% of the world total, but the turnover from building work is 1/10 of the world total. in other words, one hundredth of the world’s architects must design of 33% of all buildings and they must do this for just 1/10 of the profit. This constitutes the theoretical state of Chinese architecture.

Nowadays the state in which Chinese architects work calls for a reduction in both building and design schedules. Design operations are becoming mechanical, just like industrial production, and there is no time to stop and think. The speed at which operations unfold and the desire to create distinctive locations have resulted in works like “One City Nine Towns” in Shanghai, European-style satellite cities. China would like to experiment with Western life and it matters little that this is just a copy of an outmoded and dated notion of Europe. The matter of importing Western styles and mixing them up to produce buildings creates a hybrid kind of architecture, lying somewhere on the cusp between these two different cultures. Architecture in China is a business. Real estate is constructed and exploited and when it has given everything it can, it is just knocked down

Not even Archistars like Zaha Hadid have managed to avoid falling into this trap, and her Opera house in Guangzhou bears witness to the consequences of this kind of building philosophy.

China wants to be respected and attract attention, so the Government’s tendency is towards recognisable, imposing and iconic works of architecture that seek acknowledgement on the world stage. The Archistars have entered the Chinese architectural scene backed and commissioned by the Government. This means China is becoming the latest world architecture stage, just as Manhattan was in New York almost a century ago. Cities are still the main showcases for the nation’s modernization and Deng Xiaoping wants Pudong to be Shanghai’s “Chinese Manhattan”. “Nostalgics” still want “Chinese-ness” in architecture based on the idea of reconstructing entire sections of the city in traditional style.

Nowadays the so-called â&#x20AC;&#x153;Returning Studentsâ&#x20AC;? may be seen as the latest attempt to import new ideas and knowledge from the West.

This category is represented by architects who have studied at leading foreign universities and are open to experimentation contaminated by Western notions. They reject the current architectural situation, opting for a language based on the purism of tectonics, radical forms, vernacular materials and simplified building technology. If we compare Western and Chinese architecture, we can see that there is a real time gap. Studying the current methods of ar98 O¡AI

chitectural design used by the latest generation of architects we can see that they have a lot in common with the post-war architectural period in Europe and the West: such as New Empiricism in Sweden, Neo-expressionism in Germany, Neorealism in Italy and Novo Brutalismo in Brazil. Issues of â&#x20AC;&#x153;After the Modern Movementâ&#x20AC;? discussed in Europe fifty years ago are now on the agenda in China.

The writings of Yung Ho Chang, a Chinese architect and theoretician, clearly convey the message of the need for critical architecture that goes against the present-day consumerist situation based on the independence of architecture, radical forms and the use of vernacular architecture. In an article entitled â&#x20AC;&#x153;Critical Architecture in a Geopolitical Worldâ&#x20AC;?, Peter Eisen-

man raises the issue of the theoretical shortcomings of &KLQHVH DUFKLWHFWXUH FDXVHG E\ WKH LQĂ XHQFH RI HFRnomic factors. Koolhaas talks about the need to pay attention to these emerging phenomena and to study them from a theoretical viewpoint as the necessary attitude for upgrading the architectural profession and maintaining a critical spirit. The cultural upheaval characterising the latest generations has resulted in hybrid architecture in which marketing guides design.

The big numbers involved in Chinese architecture, the Olympics and Expo, not to mention the economic boom, have created the possibility and need for building. But China is still trying to understand what its own architecture should be like, ever since it finally opened up its doors to the West.

ALMANACCO RAGIONATO ARCHITETTI ITALIANI 2013 Il mondo del progetto e della committenza attraversa un periodo difficile e di conseguenza la scelta di un architetto da parte di clienti, italiani o esteri, diventa sempre più complessa per la mancanza di informazioni che consentano di confrontare la qualità dei progetti, degli orientamenti culturali e della loro dimensione professionale.

Ecco perché l’ARCA INTERNATIONAL ha deciso di iniziare a pubblicare nelle sue pagine un “almanacco ragionato degli architetti italiani”.

Questo annuario verrà poi editato in un unico volume e messo in distribuzione anche on-line.

The world of project and commissioning is living difficult times; as a consequence, for Italian or foreign clients the choice of an architect is getting more and more complex, due to a lack of information allowing them to compare architects in terms of quality of their projects, cultural attitude and professional stance.

That’s why l’ARCA INTERNATIONAL decided to start the publication in its pages of a “purposive Almanac of Italian Architects”.

This Almanac will then be published in a single volume and distributed also online.
