Je vais en tout cas donner mon maximum pour y parvenir ! Je ne connais pas encore le tracé, je suis encore en phase d’apprentissage mais le fait de courir à Moscou va me donner l’envie de me surpasser.

Un compatriote arrive dans votre équipe pour ce meeting, quel regard portez-vous sur les pilotes locaux ?

C’est extrêmement intéressant. Ces dernières années, nous avons vu beaucoup de pilotes venir de Russie pour courir dans différentes catégories.

On voit que le sport automobile devient de plus en plus populaire ici. Mais le chantier reste énorme car il n’y a ni pilote légendaire, ni circuit réputé en Russie. Donc nous ne profitons pas de l’historique de l’Europe ou de l’Amérique dans la discipline.

Pour sa seconde saison en Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Nikolay Martsenko se voit offrir une nouvelle opportunité de briller devant son public : « Courir à domicile est une expérience incroyable.

Cette piste est la plus belle de Russie. Les commissaires parlent Russe et la foule est très enthousiaste. Je donne toujours le meilleur de moi-même sur tous les circuits mais le soutien de mes amis et de ma famille va certainement m’aider à aller plus vite et à signer un bon résultat. »

In his second season in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Russia's Nikolay Martsenko has another chance to shine in front of his home crowd. “Racing on home soil is an incredible experience,” he said. “This track is the best in Russia. The stewards speak Russian and the crowd is very enthusiastic. I always give my best on every circuit, but the support of my friends and family will definitely help me to go faster and get a good result.”

You finished seventh at Motorland and fourth at Spa, so is the podium the next logical step?

I will certainly do my best to get on the podium!

I don't know the track yet and I'm still in the learning phase, but driving in Moscow will really make me want to surpass myself.

One of your compatriots is joining your team for this meeting. How do you think your fellow Russian drivers are progressing?

It's very interesting to see how they are developing.

Over the past few years, a lot of drivers have left Russia to race in various different categories. You can see that motorsport is becoming more and more popular here. But there's still a huge amount of work to be done, as there are no legendary drivers or well-known circuits in Russia. We haven't got the same motorsport history as Europe and Americas.

Caterham F1 Team has launched the Caterham Racing Academy, a programme aimed at giving talented young drivers a better chance of reaching F1. hampion d’Europe de Formula Abarth à ses débuts, vainqueur en F3 et Auto GP l’an passé, la courbe de progression de Sergey Sirotkin est impressionnante. Le jeune pilote de 17 ans s’est imposé dans chaque catégorie qu’il a fréquentée et la Formula Renault 3.5 Series pourrait bientôt s’ajouter à son CV. Après avoir effectué ses débuts dans la catégorie il y a un an à Moscou pour un unique meeting, Sergey est revenu en début d’année dans de meilleures conditions. « En 2012, je n’avais pas eu assez de temps pour me préparer. Et quand vous êtes dans un tel rush, il devient difficile d’obtenir de bons résultats. J’ai observé et j’ai appris », précise le Moscovite. « Cette année, nous avons fait les choses correctement.

Nous nous améliorons et cela se voit. » Les résultats n’ont pas tardé à venir avec un podium obtenu à Motorland.

En dépit de son jeune âge, Sergey Sirotkin montre des performances inédites en piste.

Un constat partagé par Loïc David, Team Manager de l’équipe I.S.R. « Sergey est très mature et clairement en avance. Pour moi c'est une surprise car il n'a que 17 ans mais l’expérience d’un pilote de 21 ou 22 ans », explique-t-il.

Sa saison d’apprentissage le voit alterner bons résultats et manque

de réussite. Pas de quoi le perturber pour autant. Fidèle à sa réputation, le Russe s’applique. « Il comprend et analyse très vite. Son retour d’information est très précis et offre une excellente base de travail », poursuit Loïc David. « L’un de ses points forts est son feedback.

Même en étant rapidement dans le coup, il sait corriger ses erreurs et comprend exactement où il peut gagner du temps. Dans le box, Il est également calme. C’est un trait de caractère qui lui permet de rester très concentré. On n'a pas besoin de lui dire ce qu'il y a à faire. Il a déjà cette analyse de la course qui est très précise et c'est assez impressionnant. » C’est donc sans surprise qu’il aborde sa manche à domicile sans pression. « Si l’on veut gagner un championnat, peu importe où l’on gagne car l’important est de gonfler son compteur de points », rappelle Sergey. « On recherche toujours la limite. J’espère vraiment obtenir de bons résultats à Moscou, plus que n’importe où ! Nous allons en tout cas donner notre maximum et faire le point après. »

ergey Sirotkin's rise has been impressive. After being crowned Formula Abarth European Series champion, the 17-year-old went on to win races in both F3 and Auto GP last year.

The youngster has succeeded in every category in which he has competed so far, and now looks set to shine in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

Sirotkin, who made his FR 3.5 Series debut a year ago in a oneoff drive in Moscow, has been pleased with his start to the year.

"In 2012, I didn't have enough time to prepare. When you're in such a rush, it's very difficult to get good results. So I watched and learned," said the young Moscow native. "This year we've done things properly. We're improving and it shows." The results did not take long to materialise, with Sirotkin achieving a podium finish at Motorland. Despite his tender age, Sirotkin has shown himself to be an assured performer on the track. And his progress has not gone unnoticed by Loïc David, the ISR team manager. "Sergey is

very mature and is clearly on the up," he said. "It's a surprise for me, because he's only 17 but he has the driving experience of a 21 or 22-year-old."

Sirotkin's debut season has been a mixture of good results and bad luck. The Russian, however, is not unduly concerned by the blips.

And, true to his reputation, he is working hard to improve. "He understands and analyses things very quickly. His feedback is very precise and provides an excellent base from which to work," said David." Feedback is one of his strong points. He's had to get up to speed quickly, but he knows how to correct his own mistakes.

He understands exactly where he can make up time. He's laid-back.

It's a trait that allows him to stay very focused. You don't need to tell him what needs to be done.

He's already able to analyse races very precisely, which is quite impressive to see."

It is unsurprising, then, that Sirotkin feels no pressure going into his home round. "If you want to win a championship, it doesn't matter where you get your victories. The most important thing is to boost your points total," said the Russian youngster.

"We're always pushing to find the limit. I really hope to get some good results in Moscow, more than anywhere else. We'll give everything we can and then analyse it all afterwards."

Je ne m’y attendais pas du tout ! Nous espérions finir dans les points mais il semble que nous soyons en avance. Les choses peuvent toutefois changer très rapidement. L’objectif reste de marquer des points le plus régulièrement possible, en espérant accrocher d’excellents résultats au passage.

En intégrant une équipe, vous découvrez un environnement très différent de la F4. Pouvez-vous nous en parler ?

En F4 par exemple, nous pouvions étudier la télémétrie de tous les pilotes.

Ici, tu n’as que tes équipiers comme référence ! Je suis chanceux de pouvoir compter sur une très bonne équipe avec des pilotes de pointe. Ça m’aide à progresser plus rapidement. Dans ces conditions, les choses deviennent beaucoup plus faciles. L’année dernière,

on partait avec les mêmes réglages de base avec très peu de marge de manœuvre. Avec Formula Renault 2.0, on peut toucher à tout. Ce sont des petites choses qui rendent l’expérience beaucoup plus intéressante car à chaque problème sa solution.

Vous allez découvrir le Moscow Raceway ce week-end. Comment allez-vous aborder ce meeting ?

On m’a dit beaucoup de bien du tracé. Il a l’air très technique avec des enchaînements difficiles. Nous allons voir comment nous pouvons progresser. Un tel meeting est vraiment important pour moi. Les tribunes seront remplies et de grands noms de l’industrie vont faire le déplacement. Ça peut avoir une incidence sur la suite d’une carrière. Les World Series by Renault vont progressivement aider le sport automobile russe.

L’exposition est croissante.

EGOR ORUDZHEV HAS SO FAR ENJOYED A SUCCESSFUL START TO LIFE IN THE EUROCUP FORMULA RENAULT 2.0, HAVING FINISHED SECOND AT BOTH MOTORLAND ARAGON AND THE GRAND PRIX DE PAU. THE RUSSIAN IS NOW PREPARING FOR THE THRILL – AND PRESSURE – OF DRIVING IN FRONT OF HIS HOME CROWD AT THE MOSCOW RACEWAY THIS WEEKEND. Had you expected to get such good results so early in your Formula Renault 2.0 career?

No, I hadn't expected it at all! We had hoped to finish in the points, but it seems we're ahead of schedule.

Things can change very quickly, though. Our goal is still to score points as consistently as possible, while hoping to pick up some great results along the way.

By joining a team, you're in a new and very different environment to what you had in F4. Can you tell us more?

In F4, for instance, we could analyse the telemetry data of all the drivers. But here, you've only got your team-mates for reference.

I'm lucky to have such a great team behind me, and to be alongside such good drivers. It helps me to progress more quickly.

When you've got working conditions like these, it makes things much easier.

Last year we all started

with the same basic setups, with very little room for adjustments. With the Formula Renault 2.0, we can tweak everything.

These are the little things that make the experience much more interesting, as every problem has a solution.

You'll be driving at the Moscow Raceway for the first time this weekend. How are you going to approach this meeting?

I've heard a lot of good things about the circuit.

It seems like a very technical track, with some difficult sequences. We'll see what we can do to move forward. Meetings like this are very important for me. The stands will be full, and some big names from the industry will be making the journey. It can influence the rest of your career. The World Series

by Renault will gradually help Russian motorsport to develop. The exposure is certainly growing.
