C’est un nouveau départ que vont prendre les World Series by Renault samedi 5 mai 2012 avec la première course de Nouvelle Formula Renault 3.5.

Après une longue phase d’étude, une campagne de développement poussée, la fabrication puis la livraison aux treize équipes et enfin les premiers essais collectifs, cette première course est une forme d’aboutissement.

The World Series by Renault enters an exciting new era on Saturday 5 May with the very first competitive appearance of the new Formula Renault 3.5. This weekend’s opening race marks the end of a process that began with a long design phase and has seen the car undergo a demanding development campaign prior to its manufacture, delivery to the 13 teams and then pre-season collective testing.

Jusque là le circuit est en montée et au point de freinage du virage 8, la descente débute !

L’enchainement, à l’aveugle commence par un virage à droite suivi d’un gauche.

It’s uphill all the way to this point, but as soon as you hit the brakes in Turn 8 you’re going down. You’re blind going into the corkscrew, which starts with a right turn followed by a left.

Les virages 4 et 5 composent en réalité un grand gauche en deux temps. La première partie est à fond puis il faut freiner et rétrograder tout en restant bien en ligne.

Turns 4 and 5 are, in actual fact, a sweeping left-hander with a double apex. You take the first part flat out and then you have to brake and flick down the gears while staying right on line.

Nous arrivons à fond de septième dans le virage 1. Il faut faire un freinage appuyé et précis, car on ne voit pas la sortie si on manque le point de corde. Ce virage conditionne toute la montée qui suit.

We’re in seventh going into Turn 1. You need to be firm and precise on the brakes here because if you miss the apex, then you won’t see the exit. Get the turn right and you’re in good shape for the climb that follows.

En course, il faut essayer d’être idéalement placé à la sortie de cette partie pour profiter de l’aspiration dans la très longue ligne droite puis porter une attaque à l’amorce d’une épingle très serrée.

In a race you need to get the exit just right here to get a tow in the long straight and then have a go at the entrance to what is a really tight hairpin.

C’est le seul virage de la saison que nous négocions sur le premier rapport. Il faut attendre que les roues soient droites pour remettre les gaz et il ne faut pas se laisser embarquer vers la droite.

It’s the only turn in the championship that we take in first gear. You have to wait until the wheels are straight before stepping on the gas again, and you need to make sure you don’t drift off to the right either.

LE DRS, COMMENT ÇA MARCHE ?

DRS: HOW DOES IT WORK? Le Drive Reduction System équipe Nouvelle Formula Renault 3.5. Contrairement à la Formule 1, il n’y a pas de zone de DRS en Formula Renault 3.5 Series, mais un temps limité d’utilisation en course. Ce temps sera déterminé sur chaque circuit, après analyse des données enregistrées durant les essais collectifs du vendredi. Pour activer le DRS, le pilote doit appuyer sur un bouton se trouvant sur le volant. Une lame vient alors couper le flux d’air entre les deux plans de l’aile arrière, induisant une dégradation de la trainée.

16:10 The new Formula Renault 3.5 is fitted with the Drag Reduction System. Unlike Formula One, there is no DRS zone in Formula Renault 3.5 Series, with drivers instead allowed to use it for a limited time period during races.

The time allocation will be determined at each

track following analysis of data collated during the collective testing sessions held on the Friday of each meeting. Drivers activate DRS by pressing a button situated on the steering wheel. A blade then disrupts the airflow through the two parts of the rear ring and reduces drag.

Partenaire de Renault en F1 depuis 2007, Red Bull Racing rejoint les World Series by Renault cette saison. L’équipe double Championne du Monde de Formule 1 se produira sur les sept meetings, offrant ainsi au public la chance de voir évoluer la monoplace championne du monde, la RB6, aux mains de pilotes expérimentés. Jean-Eric Vergne, vice-champion de Formula Renault 3.5 Series en 2011 et maintenant pilote Toro Rosso, est le premier d’entre eux, ce week-end à Motorland Aragon.

Formula One partners with Renault since 2007, Red Bull Racing is joining the World Series

by Renault this season.

The double Formula One world champions will be attending the seven meetings, giving WSR fans the chance to see their title-winning car, the RB6, being put through its paces by experienced drivers. The show starts this weekend at Motorland Aragon, where Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne, the runner-up in last year’s Formula Renault 3.5 Series, will be at the wheel.

RENAULT VILLAGE Le village des World Series by Renault est totalement repensé cette année autour d’une nouvelle structure avec un cheminement unique permettant de découvrir au fur et à mesure cinq univers de la marque Renault. Un espace privilégié est toujours consacré aux plus petits.

Avant de rejoindre Motorland Aragon, Jules Bianchi, pilote de réserve Sahara Force India, a participé aux essais officiels de F1 organisés sur le circuit du Mugello. Sous la pluie, il a bouclé le 8e chrono.

Sahara Force India reserve driver Jules Bianchi tuned up for Motorland Aragon by taking part in in-season F1 testing at Mugello, posting the eighth-fastest time in wet conditions.

Daniil Kvyatt et Stoffel Vandoorne ont déjà gagné deux courses cette saison en Formula Renault 2.0, à Monza en Alps pour le Russe et à Hockenheim en NEC pour le Belge.

Vainqueur de la catégorie Gentlemen Driver en Eurocup Mégane Trophy et quatrième du classement général, David Dermont sera finalement de la partie cette saison chez Lompech Sport.

Daniil Kvyat and Stoffel Vandoorne have already topped the podium in Formula Renault 2.0 this season, the Russian winning an Alps championship race at Monza and the Belgian doing likewise in an NEC race at Hockenheim.

David Dermont, the reigning Eurocup Megane Trophy Gentlemen Drivers’ champion and fourth overall last year, has finally confirmed his place on the grid this year with Lompech Sport.

La personne décisive dans mon parcours Mon préparateur physique, Peter. Nous nous connaissons depuis six ans et cela fait trois ans que nous sommes tout le temps ensemble.

La première chose que je fais en rentrant d’une course Le lundi après une course, c’est un jour où je ne fais absolument rien !

Ma matière préférée à l’école ?

J’étais plutôt bon en maths. Le pire c’était les langues et la grammaire.

Le réseau social auquel je suis accro Je suis actif sur Twitter pendant un week-end de course ou les essais, mais je ne suis pas accro. Aujourd’hui nous n’avons pas le choix, ça fait partie de notre métier.

Mon lieu de vacances favori Je rêve d’aller aux Bahamas.

Ce que je pense de moi quand je me vois à la télévision Je n’aime pas car l’image que je renvoie n’est pas la mienne. J’ai l’air fermé alors que je suis quelqu’un de plutôt fun. En revanche, j’adore voir des images en piste, ça c’est beaucoup plus intéressant à regarder que ma tête !

My favourite subject at school I was pretty good at maths. My worst subjects were languages and grammar.

My social networking site I go on Twitter on race weekends or during testing but I’m not an addict or anything. It’s all part of the job these days and we don’t have any choice.

My favourite holiday destination I’d love to go to the Bahamas.

How I see myself when I’m on TV I don’t like myself because I come across as a totally different person. I look serious, when in actual fact I’m quite a fun guy. I love watching race footage, though. That’s a lot more interesting than looking at my face!
