SILVERSTONE 25 & 26/08/2012

Les pilotes de Formula Renault 3.5 Series effectuent une rentrée des classes anticipée à Silverstone, dans le cadre du championnat du monde d’endurance (FIA WEC). Sur ce circuit, les trois pilotes britanniques et les cinq équipes basées au Royaume-Uni tâcheront de se faire remarquer sur leurs terres. Robin Frijns, le leader du championnat, devra se montrer solide car sa place est convoitée.

The summer break is over already for the Formula Renault 3.5 Series drivers, who make their eagerly awaited return to action at Silverstone during the FIA WEC event. Three British drivers and five UKbased teams will be hoping to shine on home soil.

Championship leader Robin Frijns, meanwhile, will need to hit the ground running, as the race to remove him from top spot will only intensify from here.

Le tour débute par Abbey, un virage qui se passe à fond, puis nous entamons la partie la plus technique. The Loop est notamment très piégeux, il ne faut absolument pas perdre de temps ici car cela conditionne notre pointe de vitesse dans la ligne droite suivante. Ensuite il faut vraiment attaquer fort l’entrée de Brookland.

The lap begins with Abbey, a flat-out bend that leads into the most technical part of the track. The Loop in particular is very demanding, and it is vital to not lose any time here as it determines the top speed on the following straight. You then have to push hard for the entry to Brookland.

Stowe est ensuite un virage compliqué où il est facile de se laisser emporter en dehors de la trajectoire. Il conditionne la dernière section rapide puis l’enchainement Vale et Club Corner. C’est le dernier freinage délicat du tour, où l’on peut perdre tout ce qu’on a gagné avant ! Signer un temps, notamment en qualifications, procure des sensations incroyables.

Next up is Stowe, a difficult corner where it’s easy to let yourself drift off the racing line. It sets you up for the final fast section and then the sequence through Vale and Club Corner. This is the last bit of light braking of the lap, and where you can lose everything you might have gained before.

A good lap, particularly in qualifying, is an incredible sensation.

A partir de la sortie de Luffield, un virage assez frustrant où la voiture survire beaucoup, on entame une partie incroyablement rapide, avec notamment l’enchainement Copse, Maggotts et Becketts. Avec la FR 3.5 cela va passer à fond, ou quasiment... Il faut vraiment calmer l’auto et éviter tout mouvement superflu afin de garder le plus de vitesse possible. Il est nécessaire d’avoir un pilotage très coulé pour aller vite.

From the exit of Luffield, a fairly frustrating corner where the car tends to oversteer a lot, we head into an incredibly fast section, with the sequence through Copse, Maggotts and Becketts. In the FR 3.5 we’ll be going flat-out through there, or close enough. You really have to keep the car settled and avoid any unnecessary movements to maintain as much speed as possible. You need to have a very fluid driving style if you want to go fast.

LE DÉBUT DE SAISON EN STATISTIQUES THE SEASON SO FAR: IN NUMBERS La saison 2012 est incontestablement disputée puisqu’après neuf courses, 23 pilotes ont inscrit des points. Douze d’entre eux sont montés au moins à une reprise sur le podium et sept ont remporté une course.

Robin Frijns et Nick Yelloly sont les seuls à s’être imposé à deux reprises. Si Jules Bianchi se démarque en ayant signé cinq meilleurs tours en courses sur neuf, Robin Frijns est celui qui a effectué le plus de kilomètres en tête. Enfin, Robin Frijns, Jules Bianchi, Arthur Pic et Kevin Magnussen ont chacun signé deux pole positions et Sam Bird une.

The 2012 season has been a hard-fought contest, with 23 drivers registering points in the nine races so far. Twelve of those drivers have finished on the podium at least once, and seven of them have one race victory to their credit. Robin Frijns and Nick Yelloly are the only competitors to have won two races. Jules Bianchi has impressed by setting five best race laps out of nine, but Frijns has covered the most distance as race leader. Finally, Frijns, Bianchi, Arthur Pic and Kevin Magnussen have all claimed two pole positions each, while Sam Bird has started from pole once.

Robin Frijns se souviendra longtemps de sa première venue au Moscow Raceway. Dans le cadre de la manche des World Series by Renault, le Néerlandais s’est installé pour la première fois de sa carrière à bord d’une F1, à l’invitation de Renault Sport Technologies et Red Bull Racing. « J’étais heureux comme un enfant » concède Robin. « Par rapport à Formula Renault 3.5, il y a beaucoup plus de grip. L’accélération et la décélération sont deux points vraiment impressionnants, c’est encore plus efficace que ce que je pensais. Maintenant il faut gagner ce championnat pour renouveler l’expérience, lors d’une véritable séance d’essais cette fois. » Robin Frijns will never forget his first visit to the Moscow Raceway. It was during the World Series by Renault’s Russian round that the Dutchman took the wheel of a Formula One car for the very first time, courtesy of Renault Sport Technologies and Red Bull Racing. “I was grinning like a little child,” Frijns said of the experience. “It [the F1 car] has much more grip than the Formula Renault 3.5. The acceleration and deceleration are both really impressive, and it’s even faster than I’d expected. I now need to win the championship in order to repeat the experience, this time during a real test session.”

Jake Dennis et Nyck de Vries se sont imposés en FR 2.0 NEC début août, sur le circuit de Assen.

C’est la première victoire en Formule Renault 2.0 pour Nyck de Vries et son équipe R-Ace GP.

LES SECRETS DE NICK YELLOLY NICK YELLOLY’S SECRETS Formula Renault 3.5 Series – Comtec Racing Mon premier coup de volant J’avais 13 ans et nous sommes allés rouler avec des amis dans un kart indoor. Ma première véritable course, c’était à 15 ans, à Shenington, le 28 septembre 2006.

Mon circuit préféré C’est Silverstone, tout d’abord car c’est à côté de chez moi et ensuite parce que c’est un tracé sur lequel je me sens vraiment à l’aise. C’est un des circuits les plus cools au monde.

Mon pilote préféré Kimi Räikkönen Le métier que j’aurais aimé faire si je n’avais pas piloté Je n’étais pas mauvais au golf plus jeune. Je pense donc que j’aurai pu tenter une carrière dans ce sport. Aujourd’hui je n’ai plus vraiment l’opportunité de jouer car je passe beaucoup de temps à m’entrainer physiquement entre les courses.

Ce que je pense de moi quand je me vois à la TV La première fois que je me suis vu à la télévision, j’ai trouvé ça assez étrange. Maintenant je m’y suis habitué. C’est quelque chose de normal mais ça reste assez cool.

La célébrité que je rêve de rencontrer Sans hésiter, Will Smith La matière que je préférais à l’école et celle que j’aimais le moins Ce que je préférais à l’école, c’est le sport… Et il n’y avait pas vraiment de cours que je n’aimais pas.

My first driving experience I was 13 and it was at an indoor go-karting centre with my friends. My first real race was at the age of 15, at Shenington, on 28 September 2006.
