Attie enig in sy soort Deur Andries van Zyl Nuus van die dood van ‘n gewilde jong man van Louis Trichardt die afgelope week het baie inwoners moedeloos laat vra: Hoeveel slegte nuus is daar nog vir 2020...? Die 33-jarige Attie Naudé is verlede Donderdagoggend (3de) oorlede na ‘n ongeluk op die R524 net buite Louis Trichardt. Hy sou op 14 Desember sy eerste huweliksherdenking gevier het. In stede daarvan beplan sy vrou CJ, familie en vriende nou sy begrafnis. As vertroosting verwag CJ haar en Attie se eersteling en het sy Maandag tydens ‘n sonar uitgevind dit sal ‘n dogtertjie wees. “Ek en Attie het na ‘n dam [op ‘n plaas sowat agt kilometer uit die dorp] gaan kyk waar ons bietjie wou gaan visvang. Toe ons klaar was, het Attie ‘n motorfiets daar sien staan en vir die eienaar gevra of hy ‘n draai daarmee kan gaan ry. Hulle het gesê: Geen probleem – hulle weet hy kan ry,” het sy broer Sakkie Dinsdag aan die Zoutpansberger gesê. Attie het vanuit die plaashek ‘n ent op in die pad in die rigting van Louis Trichardt gery. “Ek het gehoor hoe kom hy terug, want ek het gehoor hoe slack hy af. Skielik was daar ‘n slag. ‘n Vriend van my het dadelik gesê: Daar stamp hulle vir Attie,” het Sakkie gesê. Soos die noodlot dit wou hê was dit wel Attie wat blykbaar van agter deur ‘n bakkie getref is. Sakkie-hulle was oomblikke na die tragedie op die toneel. Attie was onder die bakkie vasgepen. Ná ‘n groot gesukkel kon hulle vir Attie onder die bakkie uit kry. “Hy het nog met my gepraat, maar het swaar asem gehaal. Ek het vir hom gebid ... ‘n paar minute later is hy in my arms dood,” het Sakkie gesê. Attie is in die destydse Nylstroom gebore

en het in 2001 saam met sy familie na Louis Trichardt gekom waar hy sy skoolloopbaan aan Hoërskool Louis Trichardt voltooi het. Ná skool het hy ‘n ambag as outo-elektrisiën by Simms op Louis Trichardt begin loop. Later jare het hy homself egter as PH (professionele jagter) bekwaam, ‘n loopbaan wat hy en Sakkie aktief beoefen op beide plaaslike en internasionale vlak, met jagtogte ook in Mosambiek. Vir Sakkie is die dood van sy broer as enigste familielid veral hartseer. Hulle was baie naby aan mekaar gewees. “Hy was enig in sy soort en bang vir niks. Hy was my alles gewees,” het Sakkie gesê. Nog een van hulle jagvriende, JW Hofmeyr, voeg op sy beurt by dat Attie sy lewe voluit gelewe het. JW se broer Trompie het weer op sy beurt bygevoeg dat hulle Attie sal onthou as iemand wat altyd tyd gehad het vir ‘n grappie. “Hy was ‘n man, ‘n bul! ‘n Regte staatmaker. Jy kon enige tyd op sy knoppie gedruk het om jou te kom help,” het Trompie gesê. ‘n Gedenkdiens vir wyle Attie vind Vrydag, 11 Desember, om 10:00 by Northgate Lodge buite Louis Trichardt plaas. “Die drag sal khaki wees - kortbroeke en pette. Dank het ook gegaan aan Mosaïek Begrafnisondernemers, Northgate Lodge vir hulle perseel, ds. Corné Burger van die NG Kerk Moedergemeente en in besonder Piet Naudé vir al die reëlings. Wyle Attie word oorleef deur sy vrou CJ, broer Sakkie en aangetroude familie. Die oorsaak van die ongeluk vorm tans deel van ‘n polisieondersoek. Sakkie-hulle het egter gesê hulle het vrede in hulle harte dat Attie nou op ‘n beter plek is.

Ek is ... die Weg, die Waarheid en die lewe Wat beteken dit vir jou om Christus te dien? (1 Petrus 3:8-22)

ns sê so maklik ons is volgelinge van Christus. Maar wat beteken dit vir jou om vir Christus te volg? Elkeen van ons is bekend met oorlog. Ons het al in geskiedenisboeke gelees van oorloë, oorlogfilms gekyk, of selfs deel gehad aan oorloë. Wat dikwels in oorloë gebeur is dat een land oorgee aan ‘n ander. Daardie land staan nou ten volle onder beheer van ‘n ander meester. Dit is presies wat gebeur as iemand tot bekering kom. Dit is presies wat gebeur het toe ons Christene geword het. Dit is waaraan Petrus ons hier herinner. Ons is eenkant gesit vir Christus. Ons het Christus in ons harte, ons dien ‘n nuwe meester. Dit is belangrik om hierdie feit te onthou, want van nature is ons harte opstandig. Ons bely dit in die Heidelbergse Kategismus Sondag 2 - ons is van nature geneig om God en ons naaste te haat. Maar nou word ons natuur verander, nuut gemaak. Dit is wat Petrus hier aan die gelowiges verduidelik. Julle harte is nuut gemaak, julle dien ‘n nuwe meester. En omdat jy ‘n nuwe meester dien, gaan die vorige valse vrede in jou lewe verdwyn. Nou gaan die wêreld teen jou in opstand wees. Om God te dien, dit sluit swaarkry in. In 1 Petrus 3:8-22 maak Petrus dit duidelik wat dit beteken om Christus te volg. In verse 8-9 wys hy ons hoe ons moet lewe, in verse 10-17 wys hy waarom ons so moet lewe en in verse 18-22 gee hy vir ons voorbeelde. Hoe ons moet lewe in verse 8-9 is heel eenvoudig: “Ten slotte: Wees almal eensge sind, medelydend, liefdevol, goedhartig, nederig. Moenie kwaad met kwaad vergeld of belediging met belediging nie. Inteendeel, antwoord met ‘n seënwens, want daartoe is julle geroep, sodat julle die seën van God kan verkry.” Dit is wel makliker gesê as gedaan. Hierdie is nie dinge wat natuurlik in die mens voorkom nie. Maar om Christus te volg beteken dat ons soms moeilike keuses moet maak. Ons moet soms optree teen ons natuurlike grein in. Wat ons eintlik hier sien is dat ons ons natuurlike mens moet afsterf en ten volle in ons lewe op God moet steun. Ons moet ons eie gebrokenheid voor God bely en ten volle op Hom vertrou, slegs dan kan ons hierdie dinge van verse 8-9 doen. Slegs deur Sy krag kan ons werklik vir Christus volg. Oor die vraag waarom ons so moet leef, gee Petrus ‘n eintlik eenvoudige antwoord. Ons moet so leef, want dit is God se wil. Hy haal aan vanuit die Ou Testament om hierdie gedagte te versterk. Hy haal aan vanuit Psalm 34 en Jesaja 8. Beide hierdie gedeeltes vestig die aandag op die vrese van die Here, en die Here alleen. Niks en niemand anders nie. Christus, sê hy, is die Here van ons harte, en dan is daar plek vir niks anders nie. Al ons ander verhoudings vloei vanuit die vrese van die Here en ons eerbied en liefde vir Christus. En hierdie eerbied en liefde word sigbaar in ons gehoorsaamheid. Dit bring ons voor ‘n baie belangrike vraag. Is ons in alles gehoorsaam aan die Here? Erken ons Christus as die Here? Of gee ons toe aan die versoekings of swaarkry om iets of iemand anders te dien? Om sy punt dan nog sterker oor te bring, gee Petrus vir ons voorbeelde. Een voorbeeld is Christus self. Christus is keer op keer versoek deur die bose. Keer op keer het Hy gehoorsaam gebly aan sy Vader. Hy het lyding op aarde verduur wat nie een van ons onsself kan indink nie. Daarin het Hy ook gehoorsaam gebly. Gehoorsaam tot in die dood. Maar na sy dood is Hy verheerlik. As ons werklik vir Christus volg, sal ons ook daardie verheerliking ervaar. They informed the police that they were the owners of the truck and that the truck had never been hijacked. Both men were also arrested on the spot. All three men appeared in the magistrate’s court at Tshilwavhusiku on 4 December. The two Bezuidenhouts were released on R1 000 bail each, while Lentsoane was denied bail. They appeared in the same court again on Tuesday this week, during which their case was postponed until 14 December. Lentsoane was denied bail once more. The three men are accused of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

Rynard het gesê dat hy van kleins af ‘n belangstelling in Legos het. “Toe ek nog klein was, het my pa vir my Duplo-blokkies gekoop. Ek het met dit gebou, maar toe hoor ek later daar is nog kleiner blokkies, die gewone Lego blokkies. My pa het toe vir my ‘n stel gekoop en vandaar af het die gogga my gebyt,” het Rynard gesê. Wat Rynard as stokperdjie beskryf, sal ander dalk as obsessie beskryf. Soos Rynard se belangstelling in Lego gegroei het, het hy ook meer en meer begin oplees daaroor. Dit het hom op die spoor geplaas van ‘n Lego-webblad, https://ideas.Lego.com/. “Daar kan jy jou eie voorstelle maak vir nuwe Lego-stelle wat hulle kan uitbring. Rynard het al die blokkies wat hy nodig gehad het begin bymekaar maak. ‘n Probleem het egter opgeduik met die apies wat hy nodig gehad het. “Daar was ‘n oom in Mosselbaai, ‘n vriend, wat ook Legos bou. Ek het eers by hom gaan hoor of hy van die blokkies het, sodat ons nie hoef in te voer nie. Ek het baie van my blokkies by hom gekry, maar ons het gesukkel om die apies te kry. Hy het net ‘n paar gehad, maar dit was van sy eie goed. In die res van Suid-Afrika was daar nie ander mense wat dit verkoop nie. Ons moes toe van oorsee bestel, van Swede en Hongarye. Ons het baie lank vir daardie apies gewag, maar ons het hulle toe uiteindelik gekry. ‘n Week nadat ek die apies gekry het, het hulle die model kom haal. Hulle het al die vervoerkostes gedek,” het

Hierdie week, 25 jaar gelede, het nuus van nog ‘n selfmoord vir ‘n tweede agtereenvolgende week op die voorblad van die Zoutpansberger verskyn. Die hoofartikel op die voorblad van 15 Desember 1995 was oor die 33-jarige Alice Cynthia Koper, in daardie stadium die verloofde van ‘n bekende plaaslike rugbyspeler, wat haarself by haar en haar verloofde se woonstel met ‘n jaggeweer doodgeskiet het. Volgens haar verloofde het hulle die vorige aand gaan uiteet en gaan dans, waarna ‘n argument tussen hulle uitgebreek het. Koper se huishulp het in haar verklaring gesê Koper was steeds by die woonstel toe die huishulp die volgende dag opgedaag het vir werk. Christine se 10-jarige sussie, Bianca, het haar aangesê om die brandweer te gaan skakel, aangesien hulle ouers nie op die plaas was nie. Louis en Kobus is dadelik uit plaas toe, waar hulle die slang steeds in die kamer aangetref het en doodgeskiet het.

Die gebou was 60 voet by 30 voet (20m x10m) met steenmure en ‘n spits sinkdak. Hierdie gebou het diens gedoen tot met die inwyding van die nuwe kerkgebou in 1926. Die argitek van die nuwe kerkgebou was Gerhard Moerdyk, een van die bekendste argitekte

in Suid-Afrika. Die pienk graniet waaruit beide hoekstene gekap is, was deel van die eerste kerkgebou van 1909 en is weer in 1926 gebruik met die bou van die huidige kerkgebou. Die klip is afkomstig van massiewe rotsblokke in Mphephu se stat, toe dit deur kommandant-generaal Piet Joubert se kanonskote getref is. Die hoeksteen is duidelik sigbaar in die buitenste portaal van die kerkgebou. Die man in die wit pak regs op die geposeerde foto blyk ds. J.J.F. van Schoor te wees – die eerste vaste leraar van die kerk, en ook leraar tydens die bou en ingebruikneming van die kerk. Gedurende die 100-jarige feesvieringe van die gemeente in 2006, is ‘n gedenkboek uitgegee, nl. Ons is die Stad op die Berg deur dr. Gerdrie van die Merwe VDM. Enige hulp met die identifisering van die persone op die foto sal opreg waardeer word.

‘n Oud-inwoner van Louis Trichardt, nou woonagtig in Pretoria, mnr. Danie Joubert, het onlangs onder die Zoutpansberger se aandag gebring dat hy in besit is van twee foto’s wat geneem is gedurende die bou van die Haantjiekerk. Hierdie foto’s is nog nooit voorheen gesien nie, en die Zoutpansberger wil graag die mense op die foto’s identifiseer. Joubert het gesê dat die foto’s etlike jare gelede deur ‘n mnr. A.B. van Rensburg (reeds oorlede) aan hom gegee is. Die foto’s moes geneem gewees het tussen 18 Julie 1925, toe die hoeksteenlegging plaasgevind het, en die inwyding op 26 Junie 1926. “‘n Baken op die pad van ‘n volk se geskiedenis en ‘n stille getuienis van die nakoming van ‘n plegtige gelofte” - uittreksel uit Die Dorp Louis Trichardt deur P.H.C de Vaal. Hier word verwys na die statige kerkgebou wat op die bultjie uittroon en opsigself ‘n storie het om te vertel. Hierdie is die kerk met ‘n paar name: Haantjiekerk, NG Moedergemeente, Die Stad op die Berg en, bowenal, die Geloftekerk. Min inwoners weet egter dat die kerk ook ‘n Geloftekerk is. Sover kennis strek is die kerk die enigste “ander” Geloftekerk naas dié een wat in Pietermaritzburg opgerig is nadat die gelofte op 9 Desember 1838 by Wasbank afgelê is – voor die Slag van Bloedrivier op 16 Desember 1838. Hundreds of macadamia farmers enrol to learn from industry experts Agricultural News Embracing the necessity to innovate in a pandemic year, Green Farms Nut Company (GFNC) worked with sector leaders to create and deliver an unparalleled seven-week macadamia-farming training programme that took place from 18 August to 1 October. The initiative expanded access to information, shared good agricultural practices, and created a platform for industry-leading discussion. “The burgeoning industry is hungry for knowledge. Content was robust and relevant to potential new, emerging, and established growers. It was free, open to everyone (not only GFNC farmers), and feedback was immensely constructive, with calls for ongoing industry advisory and consultant engagement,” comments project leader and host Barry Christie, the group agricultural technical manager of GFNC. More than 300 farmers participated from dominant growing regions, including all the major macadamia meccas in South Africa, Eswatini, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia. Working in collaboration with macadamia doyen Philip Lee, the two-hour sessions took place via Zoom on Tuesday and

Thursday afternoons. The course included 13 sessions, and each was dedicated to a specific topic, such as climatic requirements, industry overview, cultivars, crop management, and financial aspects. “It was inspiring to be a part of interesting questions and active debate. Curiosity around sustainable farming was heartening, and because of high levels of demand, we structured a bonus session (that became the course highlight) to address in more detail how to protect bees and promote cross-pollination. Everyone learnt something, including the adopting of new technologies,” shares Philip Lee, course presenter and owner of CompleteLee Nuts Consulting. The bonus session, entitled “Macadamia cross-pollination: from theory to practice”, was presented by Mark Penter, a researcher at the Agricultural Research Council in Nelspruit, Inge Lotter, chairperson of the Lowveld Beekeepers’ Association, and Stephan Schoeman, independent macadamia consultant. Sustainable farming emerged as a theme. The global awakening to farming with nature to preserve our future is taking root. Together with cross-pollination, emphasis was

also placed on integrated pest management, healthier soils, and inter-crop planting. “The course has been a brilliant learning experience. It was informative, practical, and comprehensive; addressing all you need to know to build and grow a successful macadamia operation that produces quality nuts. It is the best I have had yet! Thank you for your willing selflessness to impart knowledge - it will go a long way and I look forward to the next sessions,” says Mandla Mooko, operations manager at Baleti Estate, Limpopo Province. South Africa is already the world’s largest producer of macadamias. Core to GFNC’s philosophy is the genuine belief that industry inclusiveness and sharing will continue to support and grow global understanding that the country supplies the best-quality premium produce to the marketplace. “It was thoroughly rewarding working on this project, and I look forward to developing more in the future,” concludes Christie. TAU SA warns about possible labour unrest Rural Safety TAU SA has warned all farmers in the country to be alert and to take the necessary precautions against people who want to enter their farms to create unrest. “We have taken note of the EFF’s so-called labour desks, as well as people impersonating labour inspectors to obtain access to farms and farmworkers,” says Mr Drickus Botha, the regional manager of TAU SA North in a press release. “TAU SA encourages all rural landowners and inhabitants to join a local safety structure. We can beat rural crime if we all take part,” he added. Botha said that the EFF made a lot of threats, followed by protests where they handed over memorandums of demand to farm owners. The demands are usually unreasonable, baseless and with no laws to support them. According to Botha, the farmers are then threatened to comply with the demands or to face a second visit from the party members. TAU SA said they were aware of incidents in Groblersdal, Tolwe and Naboomspruit where people had been attacked and workers fired. “The EFF misleads workers to such an extent, they don’t even take real labour issues to the CCMA or appropriate departments. The workers only listen to the EFF,” said Botha. “But the EFF cannot do much more than make promises about what will happen after the upcoming election.” TAU SA suggests all farm owners take the following precautionary measures to protect themselves: * Keep gates locked and ensure you have an explicit notice indicating private property and that trespassers will be prosecuted – the message should be in more than one language; * Join a local safety structure; * Get a response plan in place; * Get experienced negotiators to speak to the trespassers; * Plan with the local police on when and how to react; * Get expert advice about laws relating to public gatherings, and trespassing; and * No personnel records may be shown to anyone without a warrant or the necessary identification.

Dit is redelik maklik om hulle op te spoor deurdat die wêreld onder die slaapplek besaai sal lê met haarballe. Gevlekte ooruile en bosuile is baie moeiliker om buite die broeiseisoen op te spoor en hulle is meesters om hulleself te kamoefleer en weg te kruip. Omdat hulle oorwegend insekte eet, disintegreer die balle wat hulle opbring ook baie vinniger as dié van nonnetjies. Hulle is ook meer geneig om hulle sitplekke van dag tot dag te wissel en dan is hulle natuurlik baie stiller buite die broeiseisoen. Baie mense dink dat die uil in hulle tuin weggetrek het omdat hulle nie meer gehoor word nie. Gevlekte ooruile is veral baie stil buite die broeiseisoen. Wat roepe aanbetref, is daar ook baie misverstande en is meeste voëlboeke ook verkeerd. Meeste uile het verskeie roepe, waarvan meeste nie opgeneem of aangeteken is nie. Meeste voëlboeke gee twee roepe vir gevlekte ooruile aan, nl. twee note hoe-hoee, wat aan die mannetjie toegeskryf word, en ‘n roep met drie note, hoe-hoe-hoee, wat aan die wyfie toegeskryf word. Ek weet nie van ander areas nie maar by ons steur uile hulle nie aan hierdie konvensie nie en albei geslagte gebruik albei roepe, en veral die twee note roep. By die een nes wat ek al vir 10 jaar monitor gebruik die mannetjie oorwegend die drie-noot roep en die wyfie, snaaks genoeg, nie eintlik een van die twee nie. The streets of Louis Trichardt were transformed into a sea of colourful, flashing Christmas lights as cyclists took to the streets during the Soutpansberg Cycling Club’s annual Jingle Bell Toy Ride last Friday. The organisers were pleasantly surprised by the number of participants, almost double those of last year. The cyclists set off at Makhado Crossing, with stopping points at Thompson’s Motors, Mount Fuji, Ocean Basket and Timbercity. The entry fee was a toy. Toy collected will be used to brighten up a less fortunate child’s Christmas, just as the cyclists’ lights on their bicycles brightened up the evening. Erik Welman (regs) het ná afloop van die Soutpansberg Muurbalklub se “Lockdown” klubkampioenskappe verlede week as wenner van die enkelspel vir mans uit die stryd getree, nadat hy Nardus Barnard (links), wat as naaswenner gëeindig het, geklop het. Foto verskaf.

Die Soutpansberg Muurbalklub het op Woensdag, 2 Desember, hulle “Lockdown” klubkampioenskappe beslis. Vanjaar is die enkel- en dubbelspel vir mans en vroue egter nie in die tradisionele formaat beslis nie, maar deur middel van ‘n rondomtalie. In die gemengde dubbelspel was die spanmaats Nardus Barnard en Dirk du Preez, Willem van Wyngaardt en Cobus van der Goot, Ronel Welman en Erik Welman en Louise Lordan en Christiaan Mocke. Nardus en Dirk wen die dubbelspel, met verdedigende kampioene Ronel en Erik in die tweede plek. Voor van links na regs staan Nardus, Willem, Ronel en Louise. Agter is Dirk, Cobus, Erik en Christaan.
