“We are not selling stands” - Nengovhela The chairperson of the Tshifhefhe Communal Property Association (CPA), which has recently acquired the Welgevonden 4LT (Portion 27) farm, denies that they are selling stands to thousands of hopefuls who want to own property at the new township.

The farm, which used to be known as Baron’s Chicken Farm, is situated about 15 kilometres from Louis Trichardt on the road to Levubu. It was handed back to the Netshifhefhe community earlier this year after a successful land claim by the Mahoba clan.

Rumours started circulating a few weeks ago of the proposed development and an “open day” was held last Tuesday (August 2) during which prospective home owners could come and stake their claim on a stand. A large number of people arrived at the farm to pay their R120 deposit.

When Mirror visited the farm on Saturday, the chairperson of the Tshifhefhe Communal Property Association, Mr Tshikamulilo Nengovhela, was adamant that they were not selling stands.

“These are just lies; we never said that we are selling the stands. All the people who have paid the money are beneficiaries. It is only (for) those who used to reside at

One of the people who paid the money, thinking that he was going to receive a stand on this particular farm, insisted on a refund. “When I paid the money, I was told that I would be given a stand. Now these people are saying that there won’t be any stands that will be erected on the farm.

They must give the money back that I had paid,” he said.

However, Nengovhela does not seem keen on any refunds.

He also claims that only 200 people paid the R120. “We have to build an agri-village (comprising) of 6-room units only, so that farm workers can reside on the farm while working here. This is what we had said as the CPA,” he added.

According to Nengovhela, the CPA has also filed claims for the nearby Nooitgedacht and Palmietfontein farms. “We are waiting for the government to buy the farms and hand them back to us. This is the land of our forefathers and we want it back,” said Nengovhela.

Serial rapist Ngobeni (25) sentenced to 160 years A serial rapist found guilty of brutally raping six women was sentenced to 160 years’ imprisonment in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday. His sentence includes six life terms.

The 25-year-old Leonard Ngobeni’s sentence came as a small victory for his victims – especially in the month when the country is celebrating its women.

As sentence was handed down, the jampacked court room spontaneously burst out in applause. Among the members of the public who attended were his victims.

Afterwards, all the women gathered outside the court house and sang songs of praise to express their gratitude for the judicial officers who prosecuted the case.

Ngobeni was caught late last year after the Makhado police were notified that a possible serial rapist might be operating near the Olifantshoek area. The local Child Protection Unit set up a task force and, shortly afterwards, Ngobeni was arrested, following a tip-off from the community.

When a Mirror reporter visited the farm, there were 19 people who were clearing the bushes.

It is alleged that more than 3 000 people from around Louis Trichardt and Thohoyandou had already paid money, thinking that they would get stands at this new development. When asked about the money that had already been paid by people who wanted stands, Nengovhela said that there wouldn’t be any refunds.

He said the money was meant for transport and food for the people who cleared the bushes.

Ngobeni’s other victims were able to identify him in an identity parade. In some of the cases, where police were able to link Ngobeni by means of his DNA, the victims were spared the trauma of a parade.

Ngobeni was charged with six counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and seven counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances. He would target women when they were gathering wood in the bush, first beating them up and then raping them. Most of his victims were in their fifties or sixties.

After the rape, Ngobeni would usually steal whatever money his victims had and, in some cases, also their cellphones. He would then use a knife to threaten them to keep quiet. Three of his victims reported to the police that he not only threatened them, but just stabbed them.

In the case of attempted rape, Ngobeni tried to rape a 36-year-old woman - his youngest victim. The woman later told police that she managed to escape when

she told Ngobeni that she had just had an abortion. She knew that she was in trouble, she told the police, when Ngobeni asked her whether she had ever met a serial rapist and that he was one.

Further investigations by the police revealed that Ngobeni was out on parole for a previous 10-year jail sentence - also for rape. He was released in September 2009 and raped his first victim in December 2009.

Ngobeni agreed to plead guilty if some of the charges against him were dropped.

The State agreed and dropped all the charges of robbery against him. In asking for leniency, Ngobeni told the court that he raped his victims because he was looking for food. He then turned to the gallery and apologized to his victims. He was, however, unable to identify his victims when asked to do so by the state prosecutor.

Ngobeni was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment on the count of attempted rape and life imprisonment on each of the six rape charges, not to run concurrently, meaning that he effectively received 160 years of jail time.

The provincial commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lt Gen Amon Mashigo, condemned the incident in the strongest terms.

“With the country celebrating Women’s Month, it is unthinkable that such deplorable acts of violence against women are still taking place. The police will not rest until the perpetrator/s of this incident is behind bars,” Mashigo said.

He also appealed to communities in the area to assist the police with their investigations and to come forward with information, should they have any.

The local traditional leader, Chief Tshililo Nduvheni of Dzwerani,

described the incident as gruesome.

She said it was the fourth incident of that nature in the area. “We are really shocked. This is our (women’s) month and we should have been celebrating it. Those greedy muti merchants made sure they killed her. We just wish that the perpetrators are found and brought to book.”

She said incidents of that nature put the region in bad light and repelled investors. Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum chairperson Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini was also shocked about the incident. “We have undertaken many campaigns regarding ritual murders and violence against women and children.

We still find men perpertuating violence against women. This is cruelty at its worst and we urge the police to speed up their investigations and arrest the suspects,” he said.

The police have opened a murder case and the body has been sent for a post mortem.

Premier Cassel Mathale has issued a strong warning to those who are planning to topple ANC mayors in Limpopo.

He was speaking during the joint inauguration of five mayors at the University of Venda Stadium in Thohoyandou at the weekend.

The mayors who were inaugurated are Florence Dzhombere (executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality), Carol Phiri of Musina, Tshitereke Matibe of Mutale, Mavhungu Luruli of Makhado and Grace Mahosi of Thulamela.

“We know that there are people who are plotting the downfall of these five mayors we are inaugurating today. Our message is clear and simple: We are not going to allow it to happen, because these are servants of the masses who are there to serve the interests of ordinary people in the streets,” said Mathale.

Mathale has urged mayors and municipal managers to observe legislation that govern them in order to accelerate service delivery. He said state resources should be used responsibly for the benefit of efficient

service delivery. “We are not going to tolerate fruitless expenditures due to ignorance by mayors and municipal managers. Tough actions will be taken against mayors and municipal managers who abuse municipal funds for their own benefit. It should also be understood that we are not going to protect corrupt mayors and municipal managers.”

He also urged Cllr Florence Dzhombere, the executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality, to do something about the shortage of water in Thohoyandou and the poor

road conditions in Shayandima. “The Nandoni Dam is just a stone’s throw from Thohoyandou, but people are still getting water in instalments.

That dam is overflowing, but still people are not getting water regularly. The issue should be addressed urgently, because water is a basic need for our people.”

MEC Phadagi urges communities to help the police in the fight against crime The MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr George Phadagi, has called on communities to join hands with the police in the fight against crime.

He was speaking during a stakeholders meeting of the Thohoyandou Cluster last Tuesday. The cluster has the highest crime rate in the province.

Phadagi said there is no excuse on the part of the police why crime could not be beaten. He said criminals were known in communities and emphasised that in a recent case where a policeman had been killed, the policeman’s gun was sold by a local chief within a day. “We cannot keep on complaining that crime is escalating. We have everything at our disposal. The police have the resources and the community members know who the criminals are. Let us expose them and they will not have anywhere to hide,” he said. He said there should

be constant interaction between the community and the police on ways to curb crime. “The time has come that we should have plans to beat these criminals. We should be ahead of the criminals all the time. This can only be achieved if we increase our informer network and work together with a common goal,” he said. He mentioned that all “rotten” police members should be relieved of their posts.

Phadagi promised that the outstanding ritual murder cases at Malamulele would be given priority and that the perpertrators would soon be brought to book. “We have to clean the area of Malamulele from the stigma of ritual murders, which repel investments in the area,” he said.

Phadagi had earlier on listened to complaints by different stakeholders who had complained about police inefficiency to work with the community, their failure to curb crime and corruption.

A clean clinic for Nancefield The Musina Nancefield Clinic was a hive of activity as women from the Musina sub-region of the ANC Women’s League recently took turns in cleaning it.

The scope of work included scrubbing the floors, picking up litter around the yard and cleaning the store rooms and getting rid of unwanted documents. Despite the cold weather, the women spent more than three hours at the clinic, while also being joined by nurses and some of the administrative staff.

Ailing Andanani is looking for help A 15-year-old boy of Gogobole Village in the Sinthumule area, who has been suffering from a skin disease for years, is looking for any good Samaritan who can help him.

Andanani Tharini, a Grade 9 pupil at Sukumani Kundani Secondary School, has “lizard skin” on his face. His face started cracking a few days after he was born.

Although Tharini has been consulting various doctors, his problem has never been solved. His family had spent a lot of money trying to get him healed, but to no avail. The boy says his skin becomes very painful, especially when it is cold.

“It disturbs me at school and at home. I can’t even concentrate at school because of the way it hurts,” says Tharini.

He adds that he understands that his family can’t afford to take him to specialists, since his mother, Linah is unemployed. He has now become a laughing stock at school.

Triplets for Phungo A 32-year-old woman of Tshavhalovhedzi Village in the Nzhelele, Ms Livhuwani Phungo, has given birth to triplets.

She says her babies are blessings from God and she has named them Muneiwa, Vhukhudo and Uhone. "I am very happy about the two girls and the boy that God gave me. I feel greatly honored.

This is a miracle," said Phungo.

She is, however, faced with a serious challenge of how she is going to raise her babies because she is an unemployed mother. "I love this wonderful gift from God, but my problem is that I am now struggling to raise them. It is becoming difficult for me to buy milk and nappies for my babies," she said. She is appealing to anybody who can help to come forward and assist her.

Phungo gave birth to twins in 2002 and now has five children. Although her husband, Themba, works as a security guard, the money he earns is too little to take care of a family with five children.

Meanwhile, the councillor for Ward 33 in the Makhado Municipality, Ms Maggie Mathladise, said that she was busy trying to assist Phungo. "I am currently busy trying to register the children with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), so that the babies can receive child grants. We have also engaged the Department of Social Development, which has already assisted with some clothes," she said. She urged members of the community to contribute towards helping the children. Mabatha confirmed that more than 300 cell phones had been seized. He said that the phones would be given back to the parents at the end of the year. “We need pupils to concentrate on their studies, so that they can produce good results at end of the year,” said Mabatha.

Teachers, who spoke to Mirror on condition of anonymity, confirmed that cell phones were causing problems at the school.

A 99-year-old blind woman from Fox Farm outside Beit Bridge, Ms Hluphe Sibanda, was burnt to death by a raging veld fire while relieving herself.

Police spokesperson Sgt Thabani Mkhwananzi said the incident occurred on Thursday at Fox Farm. “The victim was left home alone by her daughter, who had gone to attend a funeral. The old woman then left her homestead to answer to nature’s call at a nearby bush, and it looks as if, while she was in the process of relieving herself, she was burnt to death by a raging veld fire,” he said.

The charred remains of the dead woman were discovered by a neighbour. “She then alerted our officers, who attended to the scene. The body was in a decomposed state,” Mkhwananzi said. He said they suspected no foul play and the post mortem was waived.

Of late there has been an increase in cases of veld fires sweeping across vast tracts of land in the neighbouring country. In recent times, Zimbabwe has battled to contain veld fires, with casualties recorded in some incidences.

Recently, 18 families were left homeless when a veld fire swept across Matau communal lands outside Beit Bridge, destroying homesteads and property worth thousands of dollars. Most of the families had their granaries razed, leaving them with the prospect of facing starvation. No deaths were reported, but only a few goods were salvaged from the burning homes. The fire swept through harvested fields, valleys and vast swathes of grasslands.

The local forestry commission’s communication manager, Mr Abedinigo Marufu, expressed concern over the veld fires, adding that they intended to train more than 400 farmers to manage and control veld fires.

AFM reaches out One of Thohoyandou’s oldest churches, the Apostolic Faith Mission Church, has surprised even members of the church themselves when they raised more than R55 000 in one Sunday.

This happened during the church’s celebration to thank contributors who had made it possible for them to complete a project at the church, which turned out to be a very successful fundraising event.

The 31-year-old church, which is situated at Block F Thohoyandou, has been undergoing a major infrastructural facelift to the ceilingat the church, and members felt it was worth celebrating.

Last Sunday the congregation was in a celebratory mood as they rejoiced about the grace of God that had guided them to complete the project. The theme of the day was “It is between me and my God”.

For the first time in the church’s history, more than R55 000 was raised in one day. Resident pastor Muvhango André Original Ramadwa said the church had achieved so much and that it called for a celebration.

The chairperson of the fundraising team, Mr Tshianeo Mathidi, said they are excited to see the willingness and commitment of the members. “We had thought it would only be an ordinary church celebration, but this has surpassed our expectations.

We have collected a lot of money.”

Muyexe develops, but Canaan is still miles away When Pres Jacob Zuma identified Muyexe Village in the Giyani area as a pilot project for rural development two years ago, that was to change the face of that little rural village, arguably the poorest village in South Africa.

This paper was priviledged to be part of the opening excitement in 2009. Since then, a lot has happened in the village.

On Friday, Limpopo Mirror visited the village to find out how things have progressed since the introduction of the Comprehensive Rural Development programme, as it has been dubbed.

The man who broke the ice about the state of the village is school teacher John Mahosi, who heads a brick-making project, Wasanti U wa a pfuka.

A day to celebrate work of Rangers

Arnous Thaba, Manager of the Cashbuild Lebowakgomo Central store hopes that Cashbuild can continue to contribute to his community

Builders in Lebowakgomo Central recently attended one of the workshops and it proved to be a great success. Cashbuild values South African community development and has always treated it as a high priority. For example, Cashbuild employs local delivery contractors for their delivery service and also supports local manufacturers where possible. Their glass cutting service is also outsourced to local community members. With this philosophy in mind, local Cashbuild store Manager, Arnous Thaba – a 25 year Cashbuild veteran – has ‘done it the Cashbuild Way’ and prides himself on his store’s active involvement in the Lebowakgomo community. Arnous said, ‘Cashbuild has created employment in the community and has improved conditions in schools, as when Cashbuild Lebowakgomo Central opened, 10 local schools received a total of R120 000,00 worth of building materials’.

‘We are actively involved in the community because we attend meetings with the people of Lebowakgomo. Whatever the community needs from us as a business or as community mem-

bers, we willingly get involved and are able to understand what items people of Lebowakgomo need in the store’, Arnous added.

Working closely with community officials such as Lebowakgomo Mayor, Phaahla Modile Veronicca, Cashbuild hopes to further contribute to local schools in the community by launching strategic building projects. The Mayor said, ‘It is important that Cashbuild be involved in the community because I as a government employee have picked up that government sometimes falls short. If we work together with private sector businesses such as Cashbuild, we can reduce poverty’.

Cashbuild is considering the relocation of the current Lebowakgomo store to a new site if given permission by the Lebowakgomo community. Should this take place, 10 more schools in the community will each receive R12 000 worth of building material. This could go towards further improvements to classrooms and other community projects.

So far, Cashbuild has helped more than a thousand schools with over R10-million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.

Letaba rest camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP) was buzzing last Monday, when rangers from all sections of the park got together for World Ranger Day. This is a relatively new event, first observed in 2007 on the 15th anniversary of the International Ranger Federation. It is a day to celebrate the work of rangers and to commemorate the many rangers who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. It was the first time a World Ranger Day event was organised in the KNP. To start off the programme, a team of rangers paraded and performed a drill in front of the Letaba reception office. They then led the way to the conference room, where the main programme took place.

The managing executive of KNP, Mr Abe Sibiya, was the main speaker. He praised the rangers in the park and everywhere in the world for their bravery and their role as custodians of the wildlife. He paid tribute to the spirit of unity among the rangers in the park and encouraged them to remain in constant communication with each other and to continue to operate as a ranger corps.

Sibiya acknowledged the fact that poaching was the biggest challenge to the rangers. Of the remaining 20 000 white rhino in the world, half are in the KNP. But Sibiya believes that the KNP rangers are fully equal to the task at hand.

He also emphasised the importance of working with the local

communities as conservation will never succeed without the help of the community.

The final item for the day was the handing over of trees to longserving rangers.

Trees were chosen because they represent life, good health and the rangers’ passion for nature. Eight long-serving KNP rangers were presented with trees, and the species selected for this occasion was the forest mahogany (Trichilia dregeana).

The longest-serving among the recipients was Regional Ranger Louis Olivier, who had served 42 years with the Park. Another regional ranger, Johann Oelofse, who was retiring after 32 years of service, was also among the recipients. (LiN News / Kruger2Canyon)

Tycoon blames bad publicity for downfall A few years ago, well-known Johannesburg-based businessman Thomas Shuma was on top of the world. This resident from Nkovani Village in the Malamulele area drove the best wheels and he was known by many as a gold jeweller, musician and the director of a soccer team. His whole world started to fall apart when he was accused of rigging a soccer match.

Shuma was arrested in 2007 with three other men in a Polokwane hotel, on allegations that they had influenced the outcome of a soccer match. He had to stand trial together with co-accused Jacob Sakala (then City Pillars coach), manager Peter Koutroulis and the referee. They were charged with fraud, following the match between Pillars and OR Tambo, which Pillars won 1-0.

According to Shuma, his name was splashed in most newspapers in the country and his photo dominated TV screens. His businesses suffered as a result of the adverse publicity and he lost almost everything.

The once-rich tycoon is blaming his downfall on the bad publicity and also accuses the media of not reporting fairly

on the outcome of the case.

“When all the accused were found not guilty and discharged, almost all the main papers that had run the story of the fraud charges did not bother to update it,” he said. “So. in the eyes of my clients. I am a corrupt person and my business went down as businessmen do not want to be associated with a corrupt person,” he said.

Renkie Building Construction donates a new bus to True Worshippers Christian Centre

By Kaizer Nengovhela The managing director of Renkie Building Construction, Mr Stanley Radzilani, opened his wallet last week and bought the True Worshippers Christian Centre (TWCC) a bus, which will be used to transport church members.

The official handing over of the bus took place at the headquarters of the church at Midoroni on Sunday. The event was attended by, among others, Thovhele-Vho-Toni Mphephu Ramabulana, the MD of Reri's Insurance Brokers, Mr David Mureri, Ndumi David Kutama and pastors from different churches.

Mr Mureri praised the church for the excellent work it had done through the years. He assured church officials that the business sector will make a contribution for the church "in a suitable way." Mureri also prased Radzilani for the wonderful gift he had given to the church.

Mr Radzilani said his company had, in the past, funded different community projects and the company regarded it as their responsibility to empower and develop the community that supported them. “As a company, it is our responsibility to give back the little we gained from the community," he added.

In expressing his appreciation for the donation, Apostle Alpheus Mudau said it was in the nature of the church to respond to human needs, but it needed assistance to concretise its action programme.

He added that the donation came at the right time when they were in desperate need of a vehicle to transport members of the church.

“We are going to work hard to prove to our donors that they did not waste their money. We also thank Renkie, who donated music instruments to the value of R150 000 three months

ago and the six people who bought a Hyundai 3-ton truck. We hope that other companies will follow suit to assist in the development of the community,” Mudau concluded.

Thovhele Vho-Toni Mphephu Ramabula said the church would never transform if sinners were still sidelined. "If one is doing bad things and you do not go near him and show him the correct way, it means that you are encouraging him to continue with the bad things. How will these people understand us if we do not become their friends? The church must say no to sin, but it must not judge sinners.

We must give them special seats in the church, so that they must know that we love them. It would then be easier for them to transform," he added.

According to him, the church must make a difference in the lives of the people it serves.

"Politicians are doing their best to preach peace, but they will never succeed if the church does not assist them. The church is the mouthpiece of God and it should serve everyone, regardless of whether he is a Christian or not. If Jesus was still alive on earth, He would probably be worried because the church is not doing enough to help the poor, the deceived and the wicked," said Mphephu.

He praised Radzilani for the donation to the church and appealed to church members to support the business of the people who care for the communities.

Western Stars the champs Western Stars were crowned as the new champions of Africa Hardware (Soutpansberg Stream), after they beat Tshikhwani Stone Breakers 2-0 in the final played at the Ravele grounds on Saturday.

Breakers had nobody to blame for the defeat but themselves. They squanderd numerous obvious chances in the first half and their leading goal scorer, Tshililo Ramakholo, could not live up to his reputation.

He was contained by Oscar Ramantswana.

Tshililo Nkanyamba and Raymond Thenga of Breakers would have scored more than twice each, had it not been for the fact that it was not their day.

Breakers were matching their opponents pound for pound in the first half, but their original stamina faded as the going became tough. The supporters of Breakers started to boo their tall striker, Raymond Thenga, after he received a neat pass from Tshililo Ramakholo and shot wide

with keeper Tshimangadzo Masala already beaten.

The guys who were giving the Breakers defence a terrible headache were Lufuno Ndou and Shane Mutobvu. Ndou picked up a long-range shot from the centre line and left the keeper, Nthupheni Ramagoma, flat footed. After the goal, the match stopped for five minutes as the players of the opposing team accused the referee of favouritism.

Raymond Thenga should have equalised when the match was 78 minutes old, but his shot was saved by the keeper. The second goal was scored by the Shane Mutobvu after a he finished off a pre-cooked pass from Oscar Ramantswana in the dying minutes.

After the match, Western Stars received R4 000 and a floating trophy.

Tshikhwani Stone Breakers received R2 500. The two teams that lost in Tshililo Nkanyamba controls a header while Lufuno Ndou is waiting the semi-finals, Maebane Young for him to make a mistake.

Maranzhe to stage own tournament The Maranzhe grounds will be the centre of attention tomorrow. That is where the annual Maranzhe Soccer Tournament will be staged.

As usual, four teams will battle it out for the championship in the one-day event. The four teams that will take part in the tournament are Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions, Themba Sunrise Riders, The Dolphins Football Club and the hosts, Maranzhe Hungry Lions.

According to the spokesperson for the tournament, Mr Calvin Sihwili, the champions of the tournament will walk away with R2 000, gold medals and a floating trophy. The runners-up will be presented with R1 000 and silver medals, the third-placed team will receive R500 and the team that will finish in fourth position will receive R300.

All four teams will also receive two soccer balls.

According to Sihwili, the prize-giving ceremony will be held at the grounds immediately after the final. It will be held in conjunction with the annual awards ceremony of Maranzhe Hungry Lions football Club.

Several Hungry Lions players, including the player of the season, players’ player of the season, top goal scorer and the most disciplined player, will be rewarded during the ceremony. Mr Siwhili revealed that the people from Maranzhe and the surrounding areas, Vondo, Murangoni and Matondoni who contributed towards the development of sports in the past years will also be awarded during the ceremony. A businessman from Nongoma in Kwazulu Natal, Mr Desmond Semamane, will sponsor the tournament.

Tshiozwi Dynamos held the Vodacom side, Rospa United, to 1-all draw in their friendly match played at the Tshiozwi grounds on Sunday.

Dynamos were well prepared for the game as they managed to match the Vodacom side pound for pound in all departments throughout the first half. The game was characterized by rough tackles in the first t20 minutes and the referee, Timothy Thamaha, calmed the situation by flashing three yellow cards in quick succession.

• At the end of every month Daily Attendance Registers must be collected from FireWise Committee team leaders and checked for correctness.

• Monthly timesheet data must be captured on EXCEL and emailed to the Regional FireWise Coordinator on the 20th of every month.

• For processing monthly payments in good time, Weekly Time Sheets need to be checked and accurately entered into a monthly timesheet on MS EXCEL. New victim centre The Deputy-Minister of Police, Ms Makhotso Sotyu, officialy opened the new victim empowerment centre at the Vuwani Police Station last Thursday.

Sotyu said that the centre would help to prepare victims before they went to court. “It is at this centre where professional people will give counseling to the victims of abuse,” she said.

Sotyu said that victims of abuse needed to be treated with respect and dignity. “The victims have the right to be treated with fairness, respect, and courtesy in private, without discrimination. The centre will also provide protection to the victims,” she added.

According to her, children and women sometimes fear to report a crime, so the centre will help them so that they are able to testify on what exactly happened. “The centre will protect the victims against victimization by their abusers,” said Sotyu.

She said she was pleased to learn that the Vuwani Victim Empowerment Program had engaged itself in many activities since 2003. “The programme has engaged in empowering people regarding activities such as domestic violence, child abuse, women’s rights, children’s rights, sexual assault, human trafficking, women abuse, and alcohol and drug abuse,” she added.

Sotyu said she was concerned about the alarming spate of killings of police members on duty.

A traditional leader, Chief Vho-Vusani Netshimbupfe said that the centre had to grow and be strong, like the centres in big cities. “I applaud the opening of the centre; it will help fight crimes of the abuse of women and children,” he said.

The official opening of the centre, according to Sotyu, is in line with Women’s Month celebrations.

Although XI Experience were the first to blow the trumpet, their celebrations were cut short. As if they were going to bury their opponents alive, XI Experience approached the game aggressively. Their only goal came in the 18th minute.
