Catfight By Elmon Tshikhudo
A drinking spree for two drinking “sisters” ended in a bloody mess when the two were involved in a violent fight. The two women enjoyed themselves at one of the beer joints in Thohoyandou on Saturday afternoon. Everything seemed to be going well as they were dancing to the music while drinking their beers. They were in the company of some men, who also bought beer for them from time to time. The peace was interrupted when a man, who is said to be in love with both the women, arrived and bought a bottle of beer for one of them. That was when one of the two women saw red. An ugly war of words is said to have ensued and escalated
into a dirty fight. As the fight intensified, the two women were ejected from the tavern and they continued to fight outside. Eyewitness Dakalo Magau of Tswinga, who happened to be there when the incident occurred, said Maggie Maliga, who resides at the nearby Tswinga village, was seriously injured. “These women fought and disturbed the peace at the tavern and had to be removed outside, where they continued hitting each other with fists. They apparently started using any object they could lay their hands on when they were tired. They stabbed each other with beer bottles, hitting each other with bricks and also bit each other,” he added. He said the older one started bleeding heavily after a chunk of flesh was bitten off from her mouth. She also suffered another terrible blow to her ear and it was almost detached from her head. The fight stopped and the badly injured woman decided to go to the police station to report the matter. She collapsed on her way. That was when a large crowd of onlookers gathered and some tried to administer first aid while waiting for an ambulance and the police. A bystander who had kicked the badly injured woman received instant justice when he was beaten up by men who had been helping the injured woman. “I have never seen such a fierce and ugly fight between women. What shocked me most was when they started biting each other and when a large chunk of flesh was bitten off from one of the women,” said Magau. Thohoyandou police spokesperson Major Mashudu Malelo said a suspect, Livhuwani Maliga of Mapate, was arrested in connection with the case. The 28-year-old suspect appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. “She has been warned to The mutilated Maggie Maliga (31), whose lip was partly bitten off appear again when the victim is discharged from during a fight with her sister. hospital,” said Malelo.

Defamation suit against Mirror dropped
Community builds house for poor man
Mkhachani Samuel Maringa gave notice last week that he is dropping the defamation suit against Limpopo Mirror and offered to pay the legal costs incurred thus far. Maringa, via his attorney, Mr Khutso Mpai, filed papers in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court in March this year, claiming R100 000 from the paper for alleged defamation. He claimed that the newspaper had carried an article more than three years ago about the death of a family member who was murdered near Mbhalati village at Malamulele. The family member, Mr Moses Maringa,
A resident of Mashamba's two-room mud house collapsed some five years ago and he has been living in an unstable place arranged for him by a ward councillor for the past three years, while waiting for an RDP house to become available. Last week, the community of Mashamba spoke in one voice and agreed that they must donate building material to build a one-room abode for the 53-year-old indigent Phinias Fhedzisani Singo. Every household contributed a single brick and, for those
was brutally murdered on Friday, 26 March, 2010. He was a wellknown Venda musician and his body was found next to a burntout vehicle. Zoutnet, publishers of the Limpopo Mirror, immediately filed an exception in the court, stating that it was impossible to plead to the accusations. Their legal representative, Dr Rudolph, argued that the claim of defamation was simply nonsensical. Attorney Mpai never explained how they linked an article about a musician’s death to defamation. In the papers filed by Mpai, he states that the newspaper did not
ask permission from the family to carry the story. He also argues, on behalf of Maringa, that a family member had only learnt about the death when she read about it in the newspaper a week after the incident. She was apparently so traumatized that she died. Dr Rudolph asked the court to instruct the plaintiff to remove all the sections that made no legal or grammatical sense. Khutso Mpai Attorneys sent notice last week that they were no longer continuing with the case and that they would reimburse Zoutnet for the legal costs incurred in defending the matter.
who could afford it, a bag of cement. One lady in particular had donated a door, door frame and five bags of cement, while another gentleman made a huge contribution of seven corrugated sheets for the roofing. “I am happy that they are building a house for me,” says Singo. “It's winter now and where I am temporarily staying is not warm.” Singo's children are currently not living with him for lack of shelter. He says that he hopes that once the house is finished, his children will come back home.
According to the chairperson of the local Sanco branch, Rose Mudau, the house should be completed by the end of this week. “They need to keep warm from this icy winter,” says Mudau. Mudau further indicated that Singo's mother has just passed away and that she would be buried over the weekend. She adds that a number of youths within the Mashamba community and the neighbouring villages have volunteered to build the house for free in honour of Singo's mother.

College receives engineering equipment It was an occasion of great joy and happiness for students at the Vhembe FET College in Thohoyandou when Eskom unveiled some state-of-the-art equipment for the electrical engineering centre at the college on Monday. According to Eskom’s chairman, Mr Zola Tsotsi, the unveiling formed part of activities planned to commemorate Eskom’s 90 years of existence and
of giving back to the communities in which it operates. The Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Malusi Gigaba, also attended the event. “We are thrilled by the fact that Eskom is making this contribution to the college at a time when the country is celebrating youth month,” said Gigaba, unveiling the newly equipped centre. “This contribution not only demonstrates Eskom’s commitment to the em-
powerment of the youth, but also goes a long way in addressing the on-going issue of unemployment and the shortage of specialised skills in the country.” He added that the commitment was in line with Government’s objective to create an enabling environment for all FET colleges in the country in order for the institutions to deliver quality education. The initiative will benefit the college’s 874 electrical engineering students. “This will surely impact positively on our teaching and learning activities as our core business and will help us in the improvement of our results, thereby producing more artisans and electrical engineers In the phote are (from left to right) Eskom chairman Mr Zola Tsotsi, in our country,” said Dr Dr Joe Tshifularo, Mr Malusi Gigaba (Minister of Public Enterprise), Joe Tshifularo, CEO Thovhele Vho-Gole Mphaphuli and the mayor of the Thulamela and principal at Vhembe Municipality, Cllr Grace Mahosi. “We are tired of power abuse in Vhembe region”
An official of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) helps an elderly person to get a card during the visit of Premier Cassel Mathale at the Bungeni Stadium last Friday.
A large police contingent was dispatched to protect the ANC provincial office (Frans Mohlala House) on Monday after a disgruntled group of comrades entered the office, demanding that the Vhembe region should be disbanded with immediate effect, due to factionalism. Members handed a memorandum of demands to the spokesperson of the ANC provincial task team, Sello Lediga, behind closed doors. Although the memo was not provided to the media, angry members disclosed that they were tired with the abuse of power by Premier Cassel Mathale’s friend, Tshitereke Matibe, who is the chairperson of the ANC Vhembe Region. The protesters said people who were supporting President
Jacob Zuma prior to the Mangaung Conference were demoted from their managerial positions by the Mathale allies. Angry members want the provincial task team (PTT) to replace Matibe with someone else to ensure the smooth running of the party. The spokesperson for the PTT, Sello Lediga, said they knew about the problems in the Vhembe region and they were going to solve them within two weeks. Lediga said the ANC was the party for the people and comrades must enjoy being members without any intimidation. He said the PTT was going to deal with the leadership issue in Vhembe in order to rebuild the party. “Two weeks ago, the ANC provincial task team disbanded the Sekhukhune, Peter Mokaba and Mopani regions of the ANC
for causing factions in the party. The PTT Spokesperson, Sello Lediga, said it was in the best interest of the organisation to disband the three regions in order to create an environment in which the ANC could begin to rebuild its structures, because clearly the branches [had] rejected the RECs (regional executive committees),” he said. “The investigation focused on allegations of mismanagement of party affairs and institutionalised factions. The disbanded structures were accused of running parallel structures and preventing members from participating in processes before the African National Congress’s conference in Mangaung,” he said. Lediga said this was going to impact on the party’s plans to rebuild the ANC.
Members of different Vhembe ANC branches marched to the ANC provincial office (Frans A group of elderly women from Magoro performed the Gere dance during the prize-giving Mohlala House) last Monday, demanding that the Vhembe region should be disbanded with ceremony of the Kremetart cycling race at Makhado/Louis Trichardt on Saturday evening. immediate effect. vehicles, an axe, as well as ammunition. Three of the suspects are from Mozambique, one is from Zimbabwe and the other three are from South Africa,” Otto said in a press release. The seven suspects appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrates’ Court and the cases against them were postponed until 26 June for a formal bail application. They appeared on charges of the illegal possession of a fire-arm and ammunition and attempted rhino poaching. The seven suspects are Job Tlou (65) from Mpumalanga, Kalu Baloyi (30) from Mocambique, Paulus Nkuna (51) from Mocambique, Boy Shahlangu (43) from Mocambique, Elias Mokgalabone (54) from Phalaborwa, Paul Moyo (28) from Zimbabwe and Jack Makhura
(32) from Taaibos. In the meantime, investigations to link the seven to poaching incidents in the Lulekani, Gravelotte and Kruger National Park areas are currently underway. Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Simon Mpembe commended the team for their sterling work and reiterated that the police in Limpopo will fight vigorously to prevent and arrest suspects from killing and dehorning rhinos in the province. Mpembe reminded the community that an award of up to R500 000 can be paid out to any member of the public who can provide information which will lead to the arrest and conviction in court of suspects involved in the act of rhino poaching or dealing in rhino horns.

Nurses must be assets to communities
Nurses from the hospital lit candles to signify the importance of the nursing profession.
The chief executive officer of the Elim hospital, Ms Beauty Maluleke, called on nurses to consider themselves assets to the communities and to focus earnestly on the achievement of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Speaking at the nurses’ moral regeneration event, which was held at Elim hospital a fortnight ago, she said nurses should always ask themselves how they contributed towards the achieving of the MDG. She said nurses might be seen as just people in society, but their impact was massive. “We understand the complexity of this society. We are parents and teachers in our communities,” she added. She asked if there was honesty in the health profession, specifically on the part of the nurses. “Do we show interest in our neighbourhood’s children? Do we monitor our patients every time, mostly when we
are working at night?” she asked. She said that every nurse was important in the chain of health-care services in the world. She told the nurses that they were fortunate that they had an income and should pledge to help the needy. “We we have a decent income and we can still spare some of our income for needy people,” she said. Ms Elizabeth Makutu, nursing manager, said the nurses should, when on duty, practise their profession with care and sacrifice for their patients. “We have never been reported in the media for committing errors in our hospital. Our reputation should continue,” she added.

“Change the old number plates” Motorists in Limpopo are reminded that they have until 31 July to register for new number plates or face penalties. In May, the provincial roads and transport MEC, Mr Pitsi Moloto, said that motorists needed to change any number plates from the letter “N”, which stands for North, to the letter “L”, which stands for Limpopo. This is because all licence number plates with the “N” will cease to be legal on 1 August, and all vehicle licenses that expire after 31 July, have already been allocated their “L” licence numbers. Failing to do so, motorists will be issued with summons for penalties. Limpopo’s provincial government took an executive decision in 2002 to use the “L” licence number system. The process of implementing the phasing out of the “N” licence numbers was for a period of 10 years, which started on 1 August 2003. (Source: SAnews.gov.za)

We want to empower all employees, so that they can be independent. We make sure that we give them full support and give them enough opportunity to do their school work and attend classes whenever the need arises. A 24-year-old suspected cigarette smuggler from Beit Bridge was brutally killed, allegedly by a group of criminals commonly known as magumagumas, leaving his lifeless body in a pool of blood alongside the Limpopo River. Chief Supt Lawrence Chinhengo of the local police said the incident occurred last Thursday between 06:00 and 12:00 at the Dite crossing point, about 40km out of Beit Bridge. He said they had since arrested 19 suspects linked to the offence.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had gone to an illegal crossing point along the Limpopo River, intending to smuggle boxes of cigarettes into South Africa. He was then spotted by the suspects, who confronted him before they beat him with logs all over his body,” Chinhengo said. The body was discovered by a passerby, who then alerted the police, whose investigations led to the arrest of the suspects. “Acting on a tip-off, we laid an ambush at the scene and arrested
16 suspects, who then led us to three more suspects. We suspect these people could be operating as a syndicate that mainly targets border jumpers and smugglers. Several other suspects are still at large,” Chinhengo said. Chinhengo said they had since launched a joint border operation with their South African counterparts in an effort to curb rampant criminal activities along the Limpopo River. Smugglers and border jumpers continue to fall prey to organised syndicates operating along the river.

Khakhu region to receive tar roads The second phase of the tar road from Ha-Khakhu to Tshandama will resume in the next financial year. This was revealed by the executive mayor of Vhembe, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, during an imbizo that was held at HaKhakhu last Friday. One of the people who wanted to know when the second phase of the tar road from Siloam to Tshandama would be completed, was acting Thovhele Vho-Khakhu. “We have already communicated with the Department of Roads and Transport, who assured us that the next phase of this road will resume in the 2014/5 financial year,” Khakhu said. During the imbizo, a majority
of the communities raised their concerns about the lack of water in the area, as well as a lack of RDP houses. In her response, the mayor of Mutale, Cllr Josephina Mukwevho, said 279 RDP houses were going to be built in Ward 1, the area which includes Khakhu. She also said a new grader would be purchased this financial year help to maintain the streets. Matibe said R47 million had been allocated for the next financial year to provide boreholes. A further R25 million was set aside for sanitation. The communities also complained about a shortage of schools in the area, which force pupils to walk long distances as there is no scholar transport.
Cllr Lucas Manyuha, chairperson of the portfolio committee of technical services, said incomplete water schemes would be completed in the next financial year. On the issue of the funding of projects, the community was advised to visit the relevant offices, so that they can get help. Matibe said his office would also establish a task team that would come back to the community with a clear programme on how they were going to address other issues raised. “Where we need to consult with relevant departments, such as the issue of education, we will make sure that we engage them, so that we can provide answers to your challenges,” said Matibe.

Mysterious fire destroys workshop A mysterious fire has destroyed a shed with its contents, worth more than R50 000, and reduced it to ashes. The incident happened at Mvelaphanda Development Projects at the Shayandima industrial site last Sunday afternoon. The property, owned by businesswoman and community leader Ms Esther Mushaathama of Mvelaphanda Development Projects, houses equipment used in the training of students who are being prepared for woodwork. Eyewitnesses said they saw
smoke coming out of the building at around midday and alerted the director of the company, Mr Mike Mushaathama, who informed the fire brigade. The fire department officials arrived but were too late as the shed was completely gutted. They put out the fire, but unfortunately they could not save anything. Mushaathama, who had also arrived at the scene, said they were very devastated because of the fire. He said, “We have no idea as
to what could have caused the fire as it was on a Sunday, but some hearsay is that a man was seen warming himself at a fire next to the shed. What saddens us most is the fact that study equipment for our students has been burnt to ashes. It will need thousands (of rands) to replace. We are now getting quotations, as we want to rebuild a steel structure for the pupils,” he said. At the time of going to press, it could not be confirmed if a case had been opened or not.
Local fire fighters battle the flames.

Famanda Voster Nemuhuchu's murder trial continued last Thursday in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court, where the accused was cross-examined by the prosecution. The court established that on the evening of 18 April 2010, Nemuhuchu, an ex-policeman and resident at N'waxinyamane in the Hlanganani policing area, fired 14 shots while he was battling with a close relative of his, Johannes Risimati Mabunda. Mabunda died as a result of gun wounds. Nemuhuchu (34) stated that the deceased had asked some money from him at the tavern. When Nemuhuchu said he had no money, Mabunda then started insulting him, said Nemuhuchu. “He said I was fat like a frog, and that he would smash my testicles,” Nemuhuchu said. “And there were many people in the tavern.” The court asked Nemuhuchu if he had any witnesses who could have heard the deceased swearing at him, and he answered that he had none. Nemuhuchu testified that he left the tavern to go home, but soon afterwards the deceased came to his home
with a beer bottle and insulted him. He mentioned that his father tried to intervene by requesting both men to settle the issues between them amicably, and stated that Mabunda pushed the old man aside and advanced towards Nemuhuchu. He then alleged that Mabunda had smashed the bottle and charged at him with a sharp piece of it. Nemuhuchu stated that he stepped backward in trying to run from the deceased, but Mabunda followed him until he (Nemuhuchu) found himself boxed in, with Mabunda in the only opening. “I then took out my service pistol from my waist, and fired several warning shots,” he said and added that the deceased tried to snatch his gun instead “and shots went off”. The court said the postmortem revealed that the deceased had a gunshot wound in the back and Nemuhuchu could not explain how this had happened. The case was postponed to 18 June for the defence's final arguments and judgement. Nemuhuchu was attached to the Hlanganani police station. He is no longer working as a police officer.

This is the inspiring story of Theodore Edmund Dau, one of the longestserving ministers of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa, who alternated between his roles as a clergyman, freedom fighter, school principal and community builder. Dau was buried at his home village of Tshivhilwi-Tshilonwe during a moving service, which was attended by thousands of mourners. He was a faithful public servant who served the Department of Education as a teacher for 39 years of unbroken service. He was born at Tshilonwe and attended primary school there. He went to Botshabela Training Institution where he did his JC, matric and primary teacher’s course. He started his teaching career at Mukula Primary School in 1950 and in 1951 he taught at Masikhwa Primary School, where he became principal in 1953. He worked at Pastor Edmund Theodore Dau. He worked within different parishes and was in charge of countless churches, both as a pastor and advisor. Dau managed to sponsor countless children from poor families from his own pocket, the majority of whom now hold senior positions both in the government and private sector. He also served as the chairperson of the local high school's governing body and the chairperson of the pensioners committee. Speaking on behalf of the family during the funeral, Mrs Matodzi Bia said the family would always remember Dau’s love and humility. “During his heydays, he was a school choir conductor and his choirs won many awards. Instead of shedding tears, we are celebrating his life because it was lived to the fullest. During the time when the then dean of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa, Dr Tshenuwani Farisani, was in exile, he was brutalised several times by the apartheid government, because he remained doing underground work in the country. We are what we are because of him.” Dau is survived by five children, a sister, 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funds to rebuild roads and bridges The storm damage to roads and bridges in the Mutale municipal area will be repaired in the near future, thanks to the national disaster fund. “Many roads and bridges were damaged and some bridges washed away during the floods that hit the area in January. We received more than R24 million from the national disaster fund to help rebuild and fix the damaged roads and bridges,” said Mutale Local Municipality Mayor Josephine Mukwevho. She was speaking on Thursday during a general council meeting at the Mutale council chambers. The integrated development plan was also discussed during the meeting, and Mukwevho outlined some of the prioritized development projects from the allocated budget of more than R92 million. “We will rebuild the Tshikotoni Bridge, the Maludzhawele road and mechanical and electrical work will be done at the Luphephe Nwanedi Regional Water scheme.” She added that they were excited that they had completed the electricity supply to about 150 villages and were now concentrating on the electrifying of some villages. According to her, more than 620 new RDP houses will be built this financial year and she urged councillors to help identify needy, poor and homeless people. Cllr Joseph Mariba (DA) said that they appreciated the developmental projects planned by the municipality, but they were concerned about irregular and unauthorized expenditure as this hampered service delivery to poor communities.

New hotline to report sewerage problems Housebreaking sparks outcry in Shanzha Residents of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) and surrounds can look forward to a brand new way of reporting their water and sewerage problems to the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) and AfriForum. “In the past, people reported to various departments and officials, from the municipal manager right through to the truck driver. Responses were not co-ordinated, with the result they were either non-existent or duplicated. This plan is a way to cut out the current lack of communication and action and to co-ordinate the process,” said Mr Wally Schultz, chairperson of AfriForum Louis Trichardt. Key officials Mr Moses Shibambu, Vhembe’s media liaison officer, and Mr David Mukosi, Vhembe’s Makhado
water services manager, agreed with Schultz on the implementation of the plan. So what is the plan? On the AfriForum Facebook page, a permanent post will be pinned for a complaint hotline. “Post your problem here. Describe it in as much detail as possible, giving an accurate location and contact phone number. A Vhembe official has been delegated to scan this post every day and he will note your complaint and details and send it to the relevant department for action. Vhembe will post their response and action on the complaint hotline for all to see,” said Schultz. AfriForum has committed to monitor all posts and comments and do a follow-up to ensure that action is taken. The complaints hotline
will allow AfriForum to track the progress on reported complaints. The hotline is expected to be operational by the end of the week or soon thereafter. “We shall arrange for adverts on the radio to explain the new procedure of reporting,” said Shibambu. Schultz urged residents to co-operate in a constructive way. “Please … No ‘What’s going on with the water today?’ Be specific about your problem. AfriForum has taken every single action available to force Vhembe to provide water … but be realistic, the pipes must still be repaired and leaks fixed. With your co-operation we can direct the municipality to problems more quickly and expect swift results,” said Schultz.

Police and church to fight crime Realising the upsurge in crimes like rape and housebreakings in the Malamulele area, the Giyani cluster of the SAPS joined hands with the Worship Tabernacle Christian Church at Mavambe. On Sunday, the church, under the leadership of Pastor Refilwe Bafana Malomane, was abuzz with the men and women in blue. Brig Rosina Mulaudzi and her police entourage attended the service at the church. Mulaudzi also addressed the congregation and gave tips to the congregants on how to beat crime. She also gave water bottles to the Sunday school children. Mulaudzi, head of the Giyani Cluster, said they had approached the church as a last resort in the fight against rampant crime in the Malamulele area. "We are here to report all the crimes to the Almighty who knows every person's heart. We are here to seek guidance,” she added. She mentioned that there were many rapes committed against children and the elderly. There are also numerous housebreakings “and when we look at these crimes, we sometimes come to the conclusions that a demon is at work in the carrying out of the crimes,” she said. According to her, they want a boost as most of the police officers are traumatised. She said as a way of intensifying the war on crime, they had
embarked on a programme to reach out to the communities through the traditional leaders and the churches. "We are very confident that, with the church doing its work, we will be able to beat crime. The more people come to the fold of God, the more we will root out crime. All the evil people will have changed and be attending church,” she said. Pastor Bafana Refilwe Malomane, founder of the church, said he was glad that the police had come to realize that they needed each other and had a joint responsibility to fight crime together. "Police are also people and cannot be alienated from the church. With us doing our part and they doing theirs, and if we combine our efforts, we can make this community free of crime,” he said.

Ex-prisoners urged not to commit more crime Offenders at the Thohoyandou Correctional Centre in Limpopo were urged not to commit crimes when they are released and they have to live harmoniously within their respective communities. This call was made by the chairperson of the constitutional development committee of the National House of Traditional Leaders, Nkxosi Kgomotso Kekana, during a two-day visit to correctional centers in Limpopo. The visit took place last week. On Thursday, the committee visited the centre in Vondwe
village. “We want offenders not to commit any crime as soon as they are released. We urge them to play a meaningful role in the communities they will be living in. Crime does not pay and we hope the traditional leaders will motivate the former offenders to serve the communities and encourage them not to commit crime,” said Kekana. He said the house intended to work together with the Department of Correctional Services in integrating and rehabilitating offenders. The acting area commissioner
of the Thohoyandou Centre, Mr Kenneth Mthombeni, said the visit was confirming the message that the rehabilitation of offenders was the social responsibility of the community. “Through the national house of traditional leaders, we will be able to go back to the basis of reclaiming traditional leaders’ role as the custodians of restorative justice. We want traditional leaders to help in monitoring the prisoners when they are on parole as they will be living with them in the areas of traditional leaders,” said Mthombeni.
In May, the fundraising initiative of the Grade 7s of Gateway Primary was to sell small gifts for Mother´s Day. This event is always very popular and was once again a roaring success. A raffle of handmade jewellery was one of the items on the agenda and there were seven winners. Good news for residents of Thohoyandou Commuters from around Thulamela, who were moved to a makeshift taxi rank next to the municipality’s offices two years ago, are smiling again as a new taxi rank will open soon. Phase I of the muchawaited Thohoyandou Public Transport Intermodal Facility next to Eskom’s offices, which is an ultramodern taxi rank, could open at any time now. This was revealed during a site inspection at the new taxi rank by the mayor of Thulamela, Cllr Grace Mahosi, last Wednesday. The R218 million
project, the first of its kind in the province, with state-of-the-art facilities, was started in 2011 and was envisaged to be completed by 2012. During the visit, Mahosi was shown around the new facility by Mr Cuthbert Nzramzvike, the construction manager. Nzramzvike said had it not been for the added work on the project, they would have met the completion deadline. Mahosi said now that the first phase had been completed, they were going to start with the second phase, which is the bus rank. “The facility will promote the use of public transport and reduce congestion on our roads. It will use the available space effectively and improve accessibility by being user friendly to disabled people.” The facility has offices for the taxi association, a recreational area for drivers, a security manning area, toilets, parking for taxis, stalls for hawkers, shops and an attractive water feature next to the stalls.

Unfortunate defeat for Peace Makers Makonde Brazil booked a place in the final of the PIB MTB and Black Leopards KO Competition by beating Tswinga Peace Makers 6-5 in the semi-final at the Makonde Stadium on Sunday. Brazil did not lose hope, despite the fact that they were trailing 0-1 for the better part of the game. Tswinga Peace Makers took the lead in the 24th minute. Their senior player, Da-
kalo Matombo, dribbled past two defenders in a row and unleashed a powerful volley which looked too strong for the Brazil keeper, Nndwamato Munyai, to handle. Rendani Masindi of Peace Makers was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Lesley Magwabeni from behind and the referee, Mr Luula Magaba, took no time before producing yellow. Realizing that their midfield was losing
shape with time, Peace Makers replaced Nkhumeleni Makonano and Tsireledzo Makwarela with Takalani Mushidzhi and Hulisani Mamatho respectively earlier in the last half. Makonde Brazil did not lose their original fighting spirit, despite the fact that they were reduced to 10 men in the 64th minute. Vhutshilo Nyamande was given his marching orders for swearing at the match officials. Brazil tried everything within their power in their search for the much-needed equaliser. They were awarded a corner kick three minutes before the final whistle. Their keeper, Nndwamato Munyai, abandoned his position and went to add the number within the Peace Makers’ box. Masala Nethathe took the corner kick and Munyai headed home. The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out. Makonde Brazil converted all their five chances, while Peace Makers managed to score four. Gogobole Home Defenders lost 0-2 to Madombidzha Celtic in their Limpopo Dairy match at the Gogobole grounds on Sunday. Celtic did not lose their fighting spirit, although two of their key players, Oscar Mafunisa and Edwin Mulaudzi, were cautioned with yellow cards in the 18th and 20th minute respectively. The wheel of fortune turned against Defenders in the 24th minute. A defender, Phathutshedzo Mashau, failed to stop the ball and Robby Munonoka scored easily. The technical staff of Defenders did not forgive him for the blunder and he was replaced with Thabelo Tharini. The absence of Briton Muravha, Fhatuwani Matshusa and Calvin Ramusheu in the Defenders team was felt from the onset. Robby Munonoka completed his brace after he received a beautiful pass from Stanley Mukhuba. After the goal, things turned against the home team. “Good luck, Joe’s Express” The executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, was the first person to wish Joe’s Express good luck in their SAB League provincial play-offs. In an interview with him at the Makwarela Stadium shortly after the regional final match between Joe’s Express and United Artists, Matibe said that it was his wish to see Joe’s Express representing Vhembe District in a dignified manner in the provincial play-offs. Express beat United Artists 6-4 through a penalty shoot-out, to book a place in the provincial stage. The provincial play-offs will be hosted by Sekhukhune District over the weekend of 29 and 30 June. Five teams from the various districts will take part in the play-offs. The top two teams at the end of the two-day tournament will be promoted to the Safa second division. Joe’s were presented with a floating trophy and
R20 000 during the ceremony that was held at the stadium shortly after the final game. When asked about their state of readiness with regard the provincial play-offs, the team’s head coach, Mr Edwin “Cafu” Ramphabana, said that they were leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for the annual event. He assured the team’s fans that they will not let them down, although gaining promotion to the higher division will not be a walk in the park. The Vhembe District was represented by Tshifhire Northern Brothers at last year’s tournament. They failed to make the grade in the play-offs, after losing their final match against Waterburg. Rospa United, or Davhana Shooting Stars as they were formerly known, was the last team from Vhembe District to gain promotion to the Safa second division two years ago.
A last-minute goal by Emelda Khosa was good enough to secure Phaphazela Real Hexagon a place in the final of the PIB MTG KO. They beat Mulindathavha Ocean Swallows 1-0 in the semifinal at Makonde on Sunday. Swallows used their height advantage to win the aerial balls from behind. Instead of playing carpet football when they were in possession, Hexagon committed the blunder of volleying the balls in the middle of the field. Swallows had nobody else to blame for the defeat as they squandered numerous scoring chances throughout the game. Their first player to cause an upset was Israel Mudau. He received a pass from Musa Ramukumba just outside the box in the 19th minute.

Leopards’ stars to join Brazilians? the three players. He cited Bidvest Wits as one of the clubs who had made it clear that they were prepared to spend a large amount of money in their quest to acquire the services of the trio. When asked why they had decided to release the three players, who are regarded as the team’s pillars of strength, Thidiela said that they had no option but to let them go. He indicated that great players were not easy to maintain, saying keeping the three players would cause a burden to the club financially. When asked about the other players whom they were intending to sell, Thidiela said that that would depend on the offers which might come their way.

Black Leopards’ top goal scorer, Rodney Ramagalela, and two of his team-mates, Raymond Monama and Tiyani Mabunda, are most likely to be in the Mamelodi Sundowns stable when the activities for the new season start in two months’ time. Leopards’ marketing manager, Mr Tshifhiwa Thidiela, revealed that their negotiations with the Pretoria side were at an advanced stage. Thidiela further stated that they had agreed with Sundowns on most of the clauses outlined in the deal, saying what was pending was the signatures. Thidiela stated that things may change at the 11th hour, saying several other sides had also shown interest in

Ramukumba held onto the ball for far too long until he lost possession. Fhatuwani Muthego committed an unforgettable blunder a little later. He shot wide from the edge of the box with the keeper already beaten. The only time Hexagon threatened to score was when Nickel Mabasa shot aimlessly from close range towards the end of the first half. Both sides effected some changes to their starting lineups earlier in the last half, but that did not change the complexion of the game. Things turned against Swallows when Hexagon were awarded a free kick outside the box in the referee’s optional time. Emelda Khosa caught the Swallows keeper, Phathutshedzo Netshamutshedzi, napping and beat Emelda Khosa of Real Hexagon in action, him with a volley and sealed the game. kicking the ball.
