Netshianzwane immediately called the police, who reacted swiftly, but the man had already fled in the direction of the mountain. A search party was organised and soon after, with the help of the police, the man’s body was found hanging from a tree on the other side of the mountain.

Ms Tshinanne Likhanya, the sister of Elias, said the incident had caught them off guard. “It came as a shock to us. Imagine having to lose two people

in one day,” she said. She said that her brother was unemployed and struggled to make ends meet. He had six children to care for.

“What my brother did will traumatise us for a long time. If he had serious problems with his wife, he should have just let her go home without harming her. It will be very hard to forget what he did,” she said.

The traditional leader in the village, Khosi Vho-Wilfred Netsianda, said the incident came as a shock to him. “We

have not experienced anything of this nature before and this has left the village in a state of shock. All we can do now is to make an appeal to the community not to resort to violence as a way to solve their problems,” he said.

The chairperson of the Tsianda Pastor’s Forum, Pastor Ramahala, condemned the incident. “What type of men are we today who go all out to murder our loved ones? Men are supposed to give warmth and care for their families and not to murder them,” he said. Rama-

hala called on all couples with problems to approach them or other professional structures that could help them.

The spokesperson for the Levubu Police, W/O Solly Mukhola, said a case of murder had been opened and investigations were continuing.

He urged couples with marital problems to seek professional assistance instead of resorting to violence. Mukhola said that the young girl was still receiving treatment at the Tshilidzi trauma centre.

The new contender to the Vhavenda throne “is a fake” The man who claims to be the “first-born son” of the late Pat­ rick Mphephu Ramabulana has no claim to the kingship, says the Mphephu royal family.

A week ago, Elius Ndanduleni Mphephu’s lawyers filed papers in the Thohoyandou High Court, asking the court to intervene. He claims that he is the rightful heir to the throne.

I was shocked because I did not know him and had never met him before.”

According to David Mphephu, Ndanduleni then said he wanted to discuss the kingship position, “as it belonged to him. I told him that I could not discuss such an issue on the street, as it was a family matter.

He said he had already tried to raise the matter with the family, with no success,” said David. This happened after the office of President Jacob Zuma had approached the family and asked them to provide the name of a person who would be the king of the Vhavenda, as per the findings of the Nhlapo Commission.

The commission found that the kingship belonged to the Mphephu royal family.

Confirming her stand, VhoMakhadzi said: “‘I made my decision by choosing Toni as the rightful King, and no one will ever make me change my mind.” According to David, the person who is the rightful heir to the throne does not declare himself or herself as king or queen. That responsibility lies with the senior members of the family, Vho-Makhadzi and Makhotsimunene. “If a person stands up and declares himself or herself as the rightful heir, then that person is not the right candidate.

Even Toni did not choose himself.

No one can remove him except us.”

David explained that in 1993, after the death of his brother, Tshimangadzo Norman ‘Dimbanyika’ Mphephu was installed as king. Dimbanyika died on 25 December, 1996, in a vehicle accident near Aventura Tshipise.

“We then installed Toni MphephuRamabulana in 1998 and no one came forward to oppose us. Now it seems as if people are challenging our decision because of greed as everything is happening immediately after Toni became king. We have a very strong message to all opportunists. No one will ever change our decision. Those who are not happy with it must learn to live with it as we will not change.

do not seem to have the support of various other family members. His aunt, Luvhengo Selina Mphephu, has expressed her shock and disappointment about his claim for the throne.

In an exclusive interview with Mirror from her home in Dzanani on Monday, Luvhengo said she was ashamed that Ndanduleni was making a claim to the throne. “I am an aunt to Ndanduleni. His late grandmother, Muofhe Sikhala, was an elder sister to my mother, Makwarela Mphephu.

“Ndanduleni and his siblings came and stayed here while he was very young. He came with his mother Matamela, grandmother Muofhe Sikhala and his grandfather Tshilume Mphathi to seek refuge at the royal house after Mphathi was chased away by the community from HaMadodonga (Ha-Kutama), following an incident where lightning had struck the village. “Mphathi then left for the farms in Ha-Dzhubere after the family here questioned the decision by my mother (Makwarela) to accommodate someone who had been chased away by the community he belonged to,” said Luvhengo. She claims Ndanduleni’s mother was never married at Dzanani by the Mphephus. Instead, she said, Matamela was married to the Lisoga family, also in Ha-Madodonga. “I don’t understand why Ndanduleni is doing this. I am still shocked. I don’t want to see that man again. If ever you see him, tell him that he must never come anywhere near my home,” said a very emotional Luvhengo, who last saw Ndanduleni two months ago.

Luvhengo said she was also surprised that Ndanduleni was now a Mphephu, not a Sikhala. Records from the department of Home Affairs show that Ndanduleni changed his surname from Sikhala to Mphephu on 7 March, 2008. His first application to change his surname was submitted to Home Affairs in Randburg on 21

February, 2006. He submitted it again on 6 February, 2007, and it was approved on 21 February, 2007.

On 7 March 2008, Home Affairs’ computers indicated “Application for CONS sent to H/O.” Immediately after this, Ndanduleni was a Mphephu.

The Mphephu royal family’s legal representative, Paul Makhavhu, said they were suspecting fraud in the process of changing the surname as no one from the family had been involved. He indicated that he had not received the application of intervention from Ndanduleni’s legal representatives, Beukes-Sikhala Attorneys.

Ndanduleni’s son, Khathu Sikhala, reacted and said that the papers had been sent on Monday, 11 February.

When asked why Ndanduleni had taken so long to announce his challenge for the throne, Sikhala said his client (his father) had the right to decide when to act. About why his father had taken so long to change his surname, Sikhala said: “I don’t have an answer to that, but my father told me that Vho-Makhadzi (Phophi) gave him the ID number of his late father, Patrick, more than 15 years ago. Why he did not change his surname then, I do not know,” said Sikhala.

Khathu Sikhala was also asked to respond to allegations made by the royal family that his father had no claims whatsoever to the throne. He refused to answer questions, saying that the matter was pending in court.

“I find it very disturbing and a bit disrespectful that the Mphephu royal matter is being communicated through the media,” he said in an SMS. “This would not have happened had the royal council agreed to meet my father and discuss (the matter) as mature elders. Now they ask the media to ask me questions which they should have done upon receipt of the letters,” he said. Prior to sending the SMS, Sikhala again stated that his grandmother had been married to the late Patrick Mphephu. He said she had stayed with a relative who was married into the royal family and this was when she had met the late king.

Van Heerden confirmed that the DPW in Polokwane was informed immediately. The support measures via SAAF standby generators have been in force ever since, pending further action by the DPW. A media enquiry last year to the Polokwane office of the DPW was referred to the national office. The national department’s communications officer, Thami Mchunu, then acknowledged the enquiry and replied: “You will be informed if a response is available.” After a reminder this week, the DPW issued a statement

on Tuesday, stating that: “Consultants are on site, working on fixing the problem after the preliminary design report, scope of work and cost estimates were received in January.”

The statement further reads: “...we envisage the work to take more or less three months at an estimated cost of R9million.”

On Tuesday, however, Brig-Genl Van Heerden said he had no knowledge of the presence and activities of such consultants at the base.

In the meantime, the continued electricity crisis, together with the reported pending retrenchment of AMG staff and the budget problems in the SANDF, is exacerbating concerns about the overall combat readiness of AFB Makhado.

Decomposed body found The police in Thohoyandou have opened a murder docket, following the grisly discovery of a human body at Ngovhela-Tshiavha.

According to the spokesperson, Const Avhafarei Tshiovhe, the body is in an advanced stage of decomposition and was found with the head separated from the body. It was found

last Wednesday morning.

“We found the body in a donga.

We have opened a murder docket, but we have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the case. We are making an appeal to whoever might have information about the incident to please notify the police nearest to them,” said Tshiovhe.

Vhembe’s bus operators down tools Hundreds of commuters in Vhembe were left stranded on Monday, when bus operators affiliated to the Vhembe Bus Operators Association downed tools in a strike action that shook the whole district.

Idle buses in their hundreds were parked at the main bus rank in Thohoyandou, with drivers toyi-toying around the rank.

Stranded commuters waiting for connecting trips to their work places and schools were seen lining up at the loading zones at the bus rank. Many did not made it to their destinations as they did not have money to board taxis.

Drivers had a memorandum detailing their grievances that they wanted to hand over to bus owners, but the owners were not

there to receive the memo. The drivers chanted freedom songs for the most part of the day.

Among their grievances was the issue of pay, which they said was paltry and not enough for one to make a good living.

“We are leading a miserable life as workers, while our bosses lead a life of luxury. They receive subsidies from government, but instead of paying workers and subsidizing commuters, owners rush to garages and buy big cars while we starve,” said Richard Muofhe, the spokesperson of the organization.

He said they worked under trying conditions but were not well compensated, which left them and their families to suffer. “We have voiced our challenges in a

peaceful and honourable way, but it fell on deaf ears as employers do not want to listen to us. We have decided that enough is enough and we will not go back to work if they do not reply to our demands,” he said.

A worker, Samson Madzaga, who works in Sibasa, said he could not go to work as he did not have money to pay for a connecting trip to work. “I am not opposed to the strike, but I am worried about the way it took place. They should have told us that they would not transport us, so that we could arrange alternative transport. Now we do not have money and we are marked as absent from work, but we are sympathetic to the cause of the drivers,” he said.

Body found in a shallow grave The mutilated body of a woman was found buried in a shallow grave near the popular Mphephu Resort last Friday.

The deceased was later identified as Ms Lufunu Ramabulana of Dzanani Village.

The spokesperson for the Siloam SAPS, W/O Edzisani Tharaga, said her body was found in a shallow grave in a field near the Mphephu Resort. “It seems she was strangled to death,” said Tharaga. "A post mortem will determine the cause of death," he added.

Tharaga warned residents not to spread any rumours of a possible ritual murder. He said that people must stop pointing fingers. "Anyone with information regarding what has happened must just call the police and furnish us with the information.

We do not even want those people to reveal their names. They must just call us and give us the information, and then we will investigate," said Tharaga. The deceased’s right shoe was found more than 300 metres away from the scene where her body was found.

Her mother, Annah Ramabulana, said the family was very emotional.

"We are worried and are traumatised about the incident. We are greatly saddened by her death," she said.

Lufunu will be buried at Dzanani Ms Lufuno Rama­bulana. on Saturday.

Knives are out for Gogome Tshifularo The knives are out for the embattled acting CEO of the Vhembe FET, Dr Gogome Tshifularo, and his manage­ ment team.

This was the message during a march last Wednesday (6/2), which saw almost the whole workforce at the main campus in Makwarela downing tools.

All services came to a standstill when students also joined staff members in solidarity with their demands and marched from the main campus to the institution’s central office in Sibasa.

The marchers, who waved placards with messages denouncing the leadership of Tshifularo, sang and danced

to freedom songs and antiTshifularo songs throughout.

On arrival at the central office, the marchers handed over a memorandum, detailing their demands to Tshifularo and his management.

The marchers were addressed by the leadership of all progressive structures in the Vhembe region. A contingent of police officers maintained a presence throughout the march.

The memorandum contained almost the same demands that staff had handed to management last year. Central to their demands is the lifting of the suspension of members of the union who were suspended

without being charged, and the resignation of the college rector, Dr Tshifularo, and his management team, whom they accused of corruption and mismanagement.

They also presented a list of issues that they want investigated, which include tender irregularities, among others, and an investigation of the college’s finances by the public protector and state security agency, as well as the Hawks.

Addressing the marchers, Mashudu Maboho of Cosatu said they had tried everything in the book to avert the march, but their efforts to resolve the matters in a better way were met with arrogance by the management.

Mr Eric Chauke, the regional deputy-chairperson of Nehawu, said the management had failed and was incompetent and should just resign.

Tshifularo received the memorandum and said it would be passed on to the relevant authorities. German NGO pledges to assist victims A German-funded non-gov­ ernmental organisation has pledged to build houses for Beit Bridge families whose homes were recently destroyed by floods.

The heavy rains left eight people dead and destroyed huts and houses at more than 40 homesteads, as well as infrastructure in the district. Among the dead were three children, aged four, five and nine, who died when the huts they were sleeping in collapsed. Also killed were a local businessman, Simon Mudau (61), and his wife, Christina (61), whose vehicle was swept away by the floods. All the eight victims have since been buried.

Senator calls for fixing of damaged roads The senator for Beit Bridge, Mrs Tambudzani Mohadi, has called for urgent efforts to fix roads and bridges recently damaged by floods.

Mohadi told Limpopo Mirror that the affected communities were no longer able to access key services because of the damaged road infrastructure. She said the link between Tshikwalakwala and the neighbouring Chiredzi communities, for instance, was cut after the bridge that joins the two places was swept away by floods. “That is a very busy road, but since it was damaged by the rains, there has been reduced movement. We appeal to developing partners to chip in and help us rehabilitate this bridge,” said Mohadi. “Other roads in the district were also damaged. This has affected the availability of key services such as transport and business.”

The Beit Bridge district administrator, Mr Simon Muleya, said: “ We want that road to be rehabilitated as soon as possible as its destruction is affecting the communities. Villagers in Tshikwalakwala, for instance, are unable to access grinding mills on the other side of the river.

The disruption of the communication network is also affecting administrative links. Officials from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration came here and assessed the situation and we hope they will assist,” said Muleya. He said the government was still offering assistance to homeless families whose homesteads were destroyed by the recent floods.

The local chief medical director, Dr William Busumani, said the damaged road network was hindering the provision of health services to

remote communities. He said the health department was on high alert to prevent an outbreak of water-borne diseases such as cholera, especially in communities that were affected by the floods. “The problem is that it is difficult to reach some communities because of the damaged road network,” said Busumani.

The majority of the roads in the district were left virtually impassable after the heavy storms, which had also damaged bridges.

R14 million road project for Eltivillas

Mudzi Driving School recently extended its caring hand once again by assisting six disadvantaged young people to obtain their driver’s licences. “I grew up in a family that cared for all needy people and I want to do the same,” said Mr Abel Mudzanani, manager of the driving school. Community leaders of Eltivillas, business rep­ resentatives and ward councillor Mr Vincent Mahladisa (Ward 20) joined the Makhado Mu­ nicipality during the launch of the R14 million street-surfacing project at the Eltivillas business area last Thursday.

The technical director at the municipality, Mr Thilivhali Ralulimi, indicated that a consultant was appointed in 2010 to do a feasibility study and design of the whole project. Mr Takalani Musandiwa of TM Africa Engineering Services gave a brief scope of the project. According to Musandiwa, the work entails the upgrading of a 1,15km stretch of streets from gravel to paving blocks and the rehabilitation of 1,32km from tar to asphalt. “We will also do the rehabilitation of 0,7km from tar to paving blocks,” he said. “This will also include unblocking all blockages on the existing storm water drains.”

Musandiwa indicated that the project’s duration is eight months. Two of the streets to benefit from the project are Vaal and Orient.

Mr Devendra Patel, a local businessman, wanted clarity on the quality material (bricks) which would be used for paving the streets. “It will be a pity if, three years down the line, the same streets might need resurfacing,” said Mr Patel.

“Let me address the fear,” Ralulimi said instantly. “If you have ever been to Polokwane and

driven along Landdros Maré Street, you might have noticed that the surfaces in the intersections are made of bricks. And from my experience, that kind of paving is durable.”

Mayor Cllr David Mutavhatsindi urged all the motorists and businesspeople around the Eltivillas area to co-operate while the contractors are busy working on the project. “There is no doubt that our municipality is committed to rendering quality services to all its people,” said Mutavhatsindi.

This is the second project of this nature in Eltivillas. A fortnight ago, the mayor had launched a street-surfacing project for Eltivillas Extension 1, which was estimated at a cost of R11 million.

New community hall for Madimbo In a move aimed at provid­ ing communities with muchneeded services, the Musina Local Municipality has started with the construction of the R4,1million community hall at Madimbo village.

Much to the delight of the villagers, their days of holding community meetings under trees will soon be history as they will now have a better place to meet.

The work to be covered will include a fence, a municipal client centre (pay point) and offices with ablution facilities.

The hall will seat 300 people.

The anticipated completion date for the project is the end of June

this year.

The community hall project came about after the local communities indicated it to be one of their basic needs during the past integrated development planning (IDP) meetings. The facility is situated on the same land where the Madimbo Thusong Service Centre is.

Mayor Carol Phiri said the full significance of what the community hall represented extended far beyond its walls and indeed across the municipal boundaries. “It is inspiring to see that the work of improving life in our communities remains in very capable hands. For what we truly

celebrate is not this building, but how, in turn, this building serves as a centre to bring the help this community so desperately needs.

As we commission the construction of this project, we honour the spirit of patriotism and efficient service delivery to our people.”

She said the community hall would play a particularly important role in the lives of the local people. “In essence, the location of this community hall will add value to the residents of Madimbo and the surrounding villages.

We will continue to deliver better services to our people in order to address the past inequality of the people of this country.”

Five people, one of them a South African truck driver, were killed while four others were injured in two sepa­ rate accidents that occurred outside Beit Bridge at the weekend.

The latest accident, in which a South African citizen died, occurred on Sunday at around 03:45 at a railway crossing on the Beit Bridge-Masvingo road, when a loaded Gauteng-registered haulage truck rammed into a speeding National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) goods train, which was heading to South Africa.

The local police spokesperson, C/Supt Lawrence Chinhengo, said the driver of the truck, belonging to Davline Transport trucking company of South Africa, allegedly failed to give way to the approaching locomotive.

“The driver was coming from South Africa and was on his way to the Chirundu border post en route to Zambia with a consignment of steel rods.

It looks as if, on approaching the railway crossing, he failed to stop, despite a signal from the driver of the locomotive,”

he said.

Two people died on the spot - the South African truck driver and a Zimbabwean female passenger - after they were trapped in the wreckage. Three of the passengers, all Zimbabweans, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Beit Bridge District Hospital.

One victim, John Kokerai (28), was treated and discharged.

Chinhengo said the haulage truck was dragged off the road for about 10 metres. He could not, however, release the names of the deceased persons, saying they were yet to inform their next of kin.

The goods train, which was towing empty wagons, was coming from Bulawayo and heading to South Africa.

When Limpopo Mirror arrived at the scene, the flow of both the south- and northbound traffic had virtually been blocked as rescue teams from the local police and workers from a private fire emergency firm in Musina, the Beit BridgeBulawayo Railway Company, the Beit Bridge Town Council and NRZ frantically tried to

remove the trapped bodies from the wreckage of the truck.

An eyewitness, Mr Joseph Moyo, said the goods train had blown its horn several times but the truck had not stopped. “The next thing I heard was a deafening sound as the locomotive and truck collided.”

In the other accident that occurred on Saturday at around 06:00 near Makhado village outside Beit Bridge, Chinhengo said, three people were killed - two of them instantly - when the driver of a South African-registered bakkie they were travelling in lost control, resulting in its veering off the road and hitting a tree. The incident occurred at the 233km peg along the Beit BridgeBulawayo road.

The vehicle was coming from Bulawayo and heading towards Beit Bridge, with four people onboard.

The deceased were identified as Michael Sibanda (35), Manayi Sibanda (92) and Collen Ncube (30) of Dulibadzimu Township in Beit Bridge.

Ncube died on his way to the hospital, due to severe head injuries.

Mailausumbwa Kennedy Tshivhase of the Tshivhase Dynasty, who has been in the news for hotly contesting the Vhavenda kingship and opposing the Mphephu family as the rightful heir, is in the news again.

This time around, he is linked to the formation of a new political party, the Real Party, in Vhembe.

In recent weeks, rumours have been doing the rounds about the formation of a new political party in the Vhembe area.

Prominent names in the community are alleged to be behind the formation of the party, which is believed to be preparing to contest the 2014 elections.

The “launch “of the new party took place at the Botanical Gardens in Thohoyandou on Friday. Members, who are mostly unemployed young people, were transported to the venue in six buses.

The meeting was attended by many traditional leaders from around Vhembe.

Many were from Mukumbani, the traditional home of Mailausumbwa Kennedy Tshivhase. Asked to comment, Tshivhase said he did not have any knowledge about the party. “I have heard about this organisation but was made to understand that it was a job-creation project. I am very worried that there is an exchange of money involved, where our people are to pay money to get jobs. This will create problems in the community. They are taking advantage of the poor and this is not good at all,” Tshivhase added.

He said he had asked the police to investigate the project since he suspected that there were sinister motives behind it.

According to him, most of those involved in the event are from Mukumbani, under headman Malusele. “We are very concerned as leaders that some are even leaving their permanent jobs with promises of

excessive pay. I think the sooner we find out about this scheme, the better,” he said.

The convener of the organisation, Mr Sam Ndou, said the Real Party is not a political party and it is all about job creation. “We are using our traditional leaders to facilitate the creation of jobs in rural areas. The project has a bright future and will succeed. We have so far managed to enlist more than 800 in the Vhembe area.

This is a simple project where people will work in the fields and create jobs for themselves. They will get paid at least R2 000 a month and this will increase as time goes on,” he said.

One of those who attended, Mr Saul Madevha, said they were happy that, at long last, they would be employed. “This organisation is doing what government was supposed to do - creating jobs - and we are happy to be the first to be absorbed by the project,” he said.

Musina to get new, modern hospital Musina, as the gateway to South Africa from the rest of Africa, is overstretched in terms of health services.

The only hospital in town has to contend with the ever-growing population, which mostly consist of foreigners who have left their own countries in search of greener pastures. This leaves the local community scrambling for services with foreigners.

All this is set to change. A new modern and bigger hospital is to be built in the town.

In an interview, Musina Mayor Carol Phiri said the municipal-

ity had donated land for the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital to ease the pressure on the only hospital in the municipality bordering on Zimbabwe.

“The Department of Health has budgeted an amount of R92million for the first phase of the project. We are now waiting for the Department of Public Works, Treasury and Health to finalise the logistics for this massive project,” she said.

She added that they were also busy with some infrastructural developments all over the municipality. “When we took over,

some of the management positions were not filled, which made us not fully effective. I can say now that we have been able to fill some of those positions. Our residents can expect good things from this municipality,” she said.

Last year, Musina was hit by service delivery protests, with people demanding her resignation as mayor and that of Chief Whip Simon Madamalala. Of the protests, she said: “We managed to calm them down. Meetings were held with different stakeholders and we managed to clarify some of the issues.”

15 Years imprisonment for murderer The Thohoyandou High Court sentenced a 36-year-old man to 15years’ imprisonment for a murder which took place at Mailaskop Village, near Vleifontein. The case was fi­ nalised last Thursday (7 Feb­ ruary).

Matodzi Mabilapoho’s conviction and sentence followed an incident where he had approached Mr Simba Pilato Mudzungu (22)

on the evening of 18 June 2011 at a local tavern and demanded some money from him.

When Mudzungu told him that the had no money, Mabilapoho stabbed him in the neck with a sharp instrument.

It was testified that Mudzungu screamed for help and also tried to run away. He eventually collapsed in the street and passed away.

Mulodi to launch new SACP branch After being put on hold for three years, the Mulodi branch of the South African Communist Party is finally going to be launched tomorrow (Saturday).

The convener of the party in the village, Thabelo Nalana, said the launch was long overdue as it was supposed to have taken place in 2010, but was stopped by what he terms “forces of darkness and anti-democracy”.

“We had sufficient members who legally constituted a branch, but people in authority and some in the alliance were very fearful. They decided to destabilize the launch and it has been on hold for three years. We are just happy that the day has finally arrived,” said Nalana.

He said as people in remote villages they were faced with many challenges, such as service delivery and lack of jobs. “We know all these challenges are partly as a result of corruption, which we are going to fight vigorously. We also know that some of those in the service of our municipalities lack the necessary skills, so we are going to do a verification of skills and qualifications,” he said.

“The launch takes place in the morning at the Mulodi Lutheran Church. Preparations are in the final stages and we are expecting leadership from the district and everyone from the village who would also like to join,” added Nalana. Suspects leave taxi full of cigarettes The Waterpoort police are looking for three suspects who ran away during a police chase, leaving a Toyota Quan­ tum minibus fully loaded with illegal cigarettes, at around 03:00 on 3 February.

According to the spokesperson for the Waterpoort police, W/O Ezekiel Lishivha, the Waterpoort SAPS patrol was on a routine patrol of the area around

the Musina N1, when they spotted a white Toyota Quantum minibus. They indicated to the driver to stop, but the vehicle accelerated and a police chase ensued. The suspects allegedly took the Nzhelele-Thohoyandou road, with the police following them.

“They ran out of fuel somewhere around Thathe,” said W/O Lishivha.

“All three male suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.”

Lishivha stated that the police searched the abandoned minibus taxi and discovered 2 069 cartons of cigarettes at an estimated street value of R266 901. He added that the police’s investigations were underway to determine who the owner of the confiscated vehicle is.

Only one point for Phungo All Stars In their Safa Second Division League match at the Malam­ ulele Stadium in Saturday, Phungo All Stars fought hard to earn a point against Rospa United, when they played to a goalless draw.

Both sides were under the guidance of new coaches. The former Ria Stars’ midfielder, Sydney Moshikaro, was giving

orders from Rospa’s technical bench, while the former Black Leopards and Dynamos assistant coach, Mr Joel Masutha, was guiding the Stars players.

Rospa had nobody but themselves to blame for giving away two points at home. They squandered numerous scoring chances.

Their captain, Mashudu “Tlolo” Mashapha, was the first player

to cause an upset. He fumbled at the goal finish at a time when the fans had already started celebrating what they thought was a sure goal.

Phungo effected two changes before the end of the first half.

They replaced Tsekisi Tala and Mmazwi Segwari with Vuyani Mateu and Mpho Sekgobela respectively. Tsekisi and Segwari were out of touch from the onset. Realising that there was not enough pressure on the defence of Stars, Rospa introduced Sydney Chauke at the expense of Collins Mandlakati early in the second half.

Mashudu Mashapha of United was warned with a card for a late tackle on Nkhumeleni Todani. Marks Munyai of United could not believe his eyes when he shot wide from inside the box. He initiated some duel moves with Oscar Silima from the centre of the pitch and failed to channel the return pass to the target, much Hulisani Mathugana of Stars controls the ball, while Rofhiwa to the disappointment of the team’s fans.

Church to hold anniversary conference The Hope of Nations Ministries Centre World Wide, under the leadership of Bishop Samuel and Pastor Lufuno Tshabuse, is one of the fastest-growing churches in Limpopo.

The church will host a conference from 18 to 24 February as part of celebrating their fifth anniversary. The theme of the conference is Cultivating the Kingdom Culture on Earth.

Daily sessions will start at 18:00 every day.

The church was founded on 17 February 2008, following God’s call upon Bishop Tshabuse.

He was officially released into the ministry and blessed by Dr Tshifhiwa Muligwe of Rhema Kingdom Life, under whom he served for many years.

Tshabuse manages a youth and children centre which cares for all children in need, especially street children.

Mulaudzi said eight girls had reported being attacked in the area and four of the victims had already positively identified the man as the person who raped them.

“The rapist sometimes attacked girls who walked in the area with their boyfriends. “He would tie down the boys before raping the girls,” said Mulaudzi.

He said the raping spree started in 2011; he used the same method of lying in ambush in the bush and waiting for victims. He would then pounce and attack them.

The victims were girls aged between 14 and 19.

Mulaudzi said they had linked the man to the crimes through DNA testing.

“The man will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Mulaudzi.

“Stop taking innocent young lives”

T

he South African constitution has got what we call “human rights”, which I suppose ought to be shared or enjoyed by all of its citizens.

This, however, doesn’t seem to apply to unborn babies. The legalisation of abortion seems to have taken away their rights.

Doctors hired by the government with the purpose of helping the sick, now get tasked to steal the lives of innocent young beings. This can not be justified. Abortion is killing and killing is truly

violating God’s moral law.

We should bear in mind that God will judge them for not honouring what He created in His image. None of us could choose how we ought to be like. God has fashioned us in the womb. “Who has made man’s mouth, or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?” (Exodus 4:11). Yes, God created us in His own image. “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life that

both you and your seeds may live” – Deuteronomy 31:19.

God wants us to choose life, not take away life from the unborn. Children are gifts from God, he loves them and he carefully “fashioned them in the womb” – Job 31:15.

No-one has the right to kill an unborn child, for God is the one Who gives life to all of us.

We should always remember that “whatsoever a man sow, that shall he also reap - Galatians 6:6.

RO United win heated encounter 4-0 Tshakhuma RO United col­ lected six league points over the past weekend. They beat Univen 3-2 at the Univen Sta­ dium on Saturday, and on Sunday, they brutally walloped their neighbours, Tshakhuma FCKK, 4-0 in an SAB League match at the Tshakhuma Ma­ laria grounds.

In Sunday's match, it took United only nine minutes to open their account. Ndivhuwo Makhado unleashed a half-volley from the 35-meter area. The keeper of FCKK, Lufuno Sikhwetha, watched in disbelief as the ball hit the back of the net.

Sikhwetha then kicked the striker

of United, Mulisa Luvhengo, in his groin. Although the referee turned a blind eye to the incident, his assistant, Mr Aubrey Mafune, raised a flag. That prompted the referee, Mr Kenneth Makondo, to consult with him. After a short discussion with his assistant, the referee awarded United a penalty.

The fans and players of FCKK then confronted the assistant referee in anger and ultimately manhandled him. The situation was calmed down after Mafune was taken away in a police van and the game continued as if nothing had happened.

Victor Makhaukhau scored from the penalty spot to bring the

half-time score to 2-0. Godfrey Mudau of United, who came on as a substitute, was warned with a card for retaliating after he was tackled badly by Lindelani Gumani. The visitors were out of touch in the last 20 minutes of the game.

Ricardo Miriri of FCKK was also booked for a continued argument with the referee. Lufuno Mugodi scored the third after a mix-up within the box. Tshiwela Singo of FCKK came close to scoring in the 78th minute, but his ground cutter went a little wide. Godfrey Mudau score the fourth seven minutes before the referee’s final whistle.

Manavhela Black Aces proved to be a force to be reckoned with when they beat the un­ predictable Madombidzha Try Again 3-0 in a Limpopo Dairy match at Madombidzha on Sunday.

In the first half, Try Again managed to match their opponents in all departments. Londy Musiamo of the home team was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Lucky Sadiki the rough way in the 10th minute.

Try Again posed a threat in the 17th minute when Maanda Maladzha forced his way through the Aces defence. Realising that there was nobody to assist him, the keeper of Aces, Takalani Mphaphuli, moved outside the penalty box and handled the ball. Not only did the referee award an indirect free kick to Try Again, but Mphaphuli was cautioned with a card as well.

The halftime score was still nil-nil. In the second half, both sides effected some changes.

Aces finally found the net via Maanda Machaba, who came on as a substitute. After the goal, the boys from Kutama dedicated terms in the middle of the park and were rewarded with a goal in the 75th minute. Konanani Maemu scored the second goal of his team after he received a neat pass from Dineo Foromo.

Arsenal in draw

Madombidzha Arsenal held the current log leaders of the Safa Vhembe SAB Stream E, Zamenkonste FC, to a goalless draw at Madombidzha on Saturday.

Arsenal were out of touch throughout the first half. They were lucky not concede an avalanche of goals during the first 45 minutes. The home team’s kingpin, Dakalo Nwanamindwa, left the pitch on a stretcher and went to a local hospital for treatment, after he collided head-on with an opponent.

Arsenal had an early opportunity for a goal, but Mbengeni Rambuwani shot into the hands of the keeper, Kingsley Muligwa. A defender of the home team, Mavhungu Khodobo was yellowcarded for rough tackling a few minutes later.

Arsenal started the second half at a very fast pace, giving the opponents not a moment to breathe. The visitors’ striker, Vhonanai Ntlemo, should have scored in the dying minutes, but his shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into Vhoanani Ntlemo of Zamenkomste (left) tries to intercept the ball from the field of play.

The affiliates for the National First Division will be in action again this weekend, after a break of about two months. Dynamos will resume their league activities by playing away from home.

They will undertake a journey to Cape Town to rub shoulders with Milano United at Grassy Park tomorrow afternoon. Although it will be an away fixture for them, Dynamos are likely to come back home with a full compliment of points. Their performance has improved tremendously after the appointment of the former Orlando Pirates coach, Mr Owen da Gama.

Dynamos were still to win a league match when Da Gama, or Thifhuriwi as he is also known, joined them. As part of their many ways to ensure that they will retain their NFD status
