** FWO SLASH GOT DUMPED FOR A YELLOW BONE **

Fulufhelo

My name is Ndou Fulufhelo, I’m 25 years of age, currently residing in Louis Trichardt and studying Mechanical Engineering. I am a member of team ‘Cape Speed’ who successfully designed and produced the first Formula SAE car in South Africa to compete in the United Kingdom on the 11th of July 2012. * A bit of background about growing up: where did you do your primary and high school? I was born and raised in Nzhelele in a village next to Siloam Hospital called Tshithuthuni and that’s where I passed grade four before changing to Mopani Intermediate School to complete primary school. I then went to Thohoyandou Technical High School in 2000, majoring in Motor Mechanics and I matriculated in the year 2004. * Have cars always been your interest from childhood? Well I always wanted to own cars of my own at a young age, just like any other boy I guess, but as a kid I wanted to be

an actor or a TV presenter, presenting on YoTV or something.... The truth is that I chose Motor Mechanics over Civil and Electrical because most of my friends were doing Motor Mechanics... at the age of fourteen I hadn’t decided what I wanted to do for a living anyway. Attending a technical secondary school and learning about the anatomy of a car made me appreciate motor vehicles more. * Has engineering been the career choice? I only decided that I wanted to be a mechanical engineer in grade 12, after attending open days at various tertiary institutions. Prior to that my knowledge about the principles and concepts of engineering was very little so I couldn’t make a career decision. * Was there a plan B to engineering? Well, having a mother who is a health worker, I also considered being a doctor at some point, but I didn’t have the passion for it and I loathed hospitals. I

decided to pursue a career in engineering instead. * Was it a class-team project; was it a special project; or part of school work? As a final year student part of your requirements to obtaining a degree is to do a project. There are different projects handed to all the students doing their final year to choose from and each student chooses a project he/she feels comfortable with. The research centre I work for, Adptronics Advanced Manufacturing Technology Laboratory, reached out and made an invite to all the learners in Mechanical Engineering to be part of the Formula SAE car project. The students who were selected made it to the team based on their academic record and passion for motor vehicles. * Name of your degree/diploma, and level you are currently in, and the institution of study? I am about to complete my second Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have already obtained a diploma in Mechanical engineering and my first Bachelor of Technology in Quality respectively, all completed in Cape Peninsula University of ... Continues on p2 Technology.

Frame Work Officials - Floyd and Lead Lady Slash recently broke up and the best part is he left her for a “yellow bone” FWO came back with a killer mix tape selling like hotcakes in Pretoria. Mac-Fam and this crew have a unity, when it comes to making music; they share studios and “other stuff”... Mac J, be careful Floyd is the new guy in town. An insider told us that Slash and Floyd are always arguing, which is affecting the crew performances. It seems feelings are still running high between them? So guys grow up or make up, because everyone can see you’re still into each other.

BEFORE

AFTER

Is this the African Dream? Our Boy Mizophyll recently got himself a makeover from cutting them dreads, losing the Turban and then Dresses to Uniswa Swagg. From Rastafarian to my Nigga, everything is NEW. It seems Ladies love the new Phyll, including me. Is he still a pastor because according to his Religion a couple of things are forbidden e.g. Meat, as you can see on the after picture he seemed to be enjoying his Cocktail J&A mix. Our Freestyle star is planning on releasing this year. Now I wonder if he is going to change his sound too. I wonder if he still knows where his Turbans are at, I want to try my luck and go down Luvuvhu River, I might find them. Mizo, you owe us big time!

* Who inspires you? I look up to my parents a lot because I know where they came from, their backgrounds and the odds they had to conquer to achieve their dreams. I am also inspired by Prof. Oscar Philander for all the interesting things he achieved academically, especially in the mechanical engineering field. * What do you miss about home, including a particular meal?

Well, being in Cape Town made me miss eating porridge, which I only have when I am at home. I miss my younger brother Tsireledzo, younger sister Phathutshedzo and my parents the most though, I miss my home church as well. * What then from here about the car project? My favourite movie of all time is Troy and I am a big fan of shooting games like Call of Duty. * What is nice about the cape that we dont have here? The good thing about Cape is the beach, experiencing all four seasons in

one day, the diversity in cultures and languages, but above of all, there are more career opportunities available in Cape Town especially in mechanical engineering. * One moment of growing up that always puts a smile on your face? There are many of those moments, but the one that stands out for me is the Sunday lunches my mother usually makes after church, those moments are peaceful and we are the happiest as a family. * Word of encouragement for aspiring engineers? My advice to matriculants will be to study and work hard because the engineering field is very competitive and challenging. As an engineering candidate one must be ready to sacrifice a lot of nights. However, there are plenty of job opportunities out there for engineering graduates.

Bright Star in the Person of Mbungu

If you are in Limpopo, and even beyond, and do not know the name Mbungu, you won’t be forgiven for such ignorance. The birth of the Tshovhilingana comedy movie in 2005 heralded Thembuluwo Mamphodo as the new acting talent that would stand the test of time. The fifteen-year-old girl lives in Tsianda. She is in Grade 9 at Ndamuleleni Secondary School. “I was motivated by my father to act in comedy movies,” she tells Makoya. Thembuluwo reveals that her father is Khathu Mamphodo, the force behind Bvumo Productions. As a film producer and director, Mamphodo tried to seek fresh talent in the streets, but he couldn’t find any at the time. So, as he felt he couldn’t afford doing proper talent scouting due to financial constraints at the time, he had to cast young Thembuluwo along side his

friend Ntambudzeni Rasendedza, who is known to hundreds of their fans as VhoBundu. “Once I had appeared in Tshovhilingana 1, I’ve never looked back,” she says with self-assurance. She adds that her reassurance as an actor and entertainer comes from the constant positive feedback from people who like her style of acting. So far, Thembuluwo has acted lead in all seven editions of the Tshovhilingana movies and two other movies. “As a lead actor, I feel good, but people always expect me to act better and better all the time,” she says. “At school everyone is happy to meet me. They are excited and always want to make it fun when around me. Sometimes I get tired to see everyone smiling and I wear a frown, but to my surprise they just love whatever facial expression I make.” The gal tells Makoya that she only does her acting activities over weekends and school holidays. She believes that she easily relates to anyone because she respects all people who are older than her and all those who respect themselves. “Although Ntumbu can be a headache at times I know how to silence him,” she smiles. “It’s easier to make all people young and old to like you - I just smile nicely and say Aaaa!” she laughs softly. Her ambitions include obtaining a university degree in film and acting. “In five year’s time I want to see myself acting for Television, in a drama such as Muvhango or 7de Laan for example.” In conclusion, Thembuluwo reminds her peers that everyone has their God given talent which is unique. “You need to use your talent to make the world a better place,” she added. “School must always come first so that we can have a brighter future. Respect and obey your parents and if you want something from them, ask nicely.”

Beauty

This week I’m going to touch on the subject of “The Eyebrow Movement”. Now ladies, I know not all of us have had the help that others had, when it comes to the correct “plucking of the brow” but ai, I have seen some strange sightings on my daily trips to the shops. For those who struggle with the eyebrows, I would like to inform you that there are professionals who can help you out. They are called beauticians, and, there are allot of them in town. It doesn’t cost much to go and ask them to help you out, and they will show you, it’s part of their job to help you. And for those who don’t have ANY brows, I would like to share the good news with you… There are, in fact, professional Beauticians who do “Permanent Make-Up”. That includes, giving you a permanent brow for your

through

lovely face. It doesn’t matter what race you are (Indian, African, White, Chinese), in every race we find women who struggle with this, and if you read this article, and can relate to it, I would like to say: “You are not alone” Yes, it is a big hassle, this stupid eyebrow, but it’s a frame for your eyes, and is supposed to compliment your face. So, make the extra effort, and walk the extra mile with yourself. I have some examples here, to show you the different “Movements”, and also a correct one.

If you look like any of the No-No’s, don’t feel embarrassed, you probably didn’t know better, BUT now you know, and have no excuse. Kind Regards Mamma Chieck

Sounds of President Mayengani

Xitsonga traditional music continues to gain strength and popularity as people like Benny Mayengani release more studio-recorded albums. Today, Benny’s name is said in the same breath as names like Joe Shirimani and other noted ones in the contemporary Xitsonga rhythms. His previous album, Tiba Ben, earned him Best Male award during the annual Munghana Lonene Xitsonga Music Awards late last year. * If we may ask, who is Benny Mayengani? I was born in the Bolobedu and the rest of Malamulele, Giyani and other parts of Venda are my home. I believe that I am more popular here at home in Limpopo than any other areas. * We hear that your new album, President Mayengani, was pirated and sold in the streets before the completion of the actual work? That’s the sad thing about trusting people whom you think are closest to you. I’ve learnt the hard way never to share my work with people before its release. It’s shocking how rife piracy is in our country. * How is President Mayengani doing in the market, though? It’s selling well, you believe me.

The songs are everywhere; in the taxis, homes and taverns as well. Not long ago, we launched the album in Giyani and all 500 units we had in our possession were sold out in one day. It gives me hope. * How do you view the South African music industry? I like and enjoy the different styles of each one of us as singers and musicians. I am one of these artists. * Who inspired you as an artist? I liked Peter Teanet. He knew how to use his voice. I think it’s always good when a musician chooses to remain true to their voice, and never tries to imitate others. That’s exactly what I try to do, if I’ve failed, I stand to be corrected. * How can you describe your music, especially to those who might not understand Xitsonga and your culture? I sing contemporary Xitsonga music, but I stick to the original form and foundation, which were laid by those who came before me. There’s a song in this album called Nkulungwani wa Dzonga, which means The Ululation of the South. It describes the joy felt to see people dancing Marabenta. Marabenta is a cultural song from my previous album, and it has a dance style of its own. * What does music mean to you, first as a singer and then somebody who enjoys music? I tend to express cultural values and artistic qualities through my singing abilities. And then comes the side of entertainment. I think people must enjoy the kind of music they play or listen to. For me, music is all about entertainment and enjoyment. Music means life to me. I left the tow trucking job, where my monthly salary was guaranteed, to focus in my musical passion. * What can you say to those reading this interview now? Let’s respect ourselves, people around us and those we meet in our lives. That’s life, for me.

And the winner is...

Congratulations to our winner of our DVD give-away: RUDOLF DIFFERENCE MZIMBA Makoya will contact you shortly to arrange that you receive your prize.

The eyebrow movement The “SURPRISE!!” brow With this look, you, my dear, are drawing your brows a bit high and small and too thin.

The “Angry” brow (grrrrr) You, my dear, are going to extremes with the darkness, thickness, and square/sharpness of the “supposed” drawing of your brow.

Normal brow The “Winging it” brow With this one, it seems that, my dear, you’re not sure where the line of your brow should end, so you’re creating some “wings” for your face. It’s a little bit strange, you just need some feathers and “voila!” You can compete with Lady Gaga.

A normal brow is in balance with your face structure. Not to far apart, not to long/stretched, high enough above the eye and just thick enough. Please Iet the professionals help you out. That’s why they are there.

Artist: Stephen Marley feat Wale/ the cast of Africa Single: Made in Africa Ratings: 5/5 Stephen Marley, the son of the alltime Reggae legend is back again. This time he is preaching just like his dad. The track is the combination of Dub/Reggae/Culture and Roots. He came up with something that not all ordinary artists can come up with; it only reveals the pot he was cooked from. The first time I listened to the track, I called my friends just to warn them of this song “Made in Africa”. You can tell the Marley brothers are not just using the spotlight their dad has created; the plain truth is they are just goooood! The composition of other vocal elements from the cast of Africa and Wale really lived up to the expectations. I feel ya Stephen!

Our Famous Ntsiki Mazwai was at our playground last Year with Dj Nipro doing Limpopo House Tours. Nipro said they were dating and they were all cozy. I asked Ntsiki * By Rita Dee how their relationship was going and she seemed shocked. Ntsiki said; “ I have been single for two years now and I am not dating. Nipro is just a close friend because we are in the same industry, I went to Venda to explore and he came up with the offer to perform to my Limpopo fans”. So my question is “was it a publicity Stunt so we could attend those shows? This means no wedding bells for Ntsiki and Nipro

Next month to be exact, marks the release of the album “LIVING THINGS”. The band dropped their single “BURN IT DOWN”, from the days of the tracks, “THAT’S SO NUMB” blew the music scenes and got everyone singing. The album was co-produced by Rick Rubin and Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda. The album has 12 tracks and every piece will bring you and your house down. I like the track “Burn it down” which so far I had a chance to listen to. These guys are just the pure work of Godly talent and they will stop at nothing to give you the best as long as they live. No wonder I love rock music this much! Linkin Park is the future!
