Die Makhado Munisipaliteit is tans besig met die opstel van ‘n nuwe waardasierol in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) waarvolgens nuwe eiendomsbelasting bepaal sal word. ‘n Nuwigheid is dat van die waardeerders wat tans met hul markwaardasies besig is, ‘n kamera uithaal en foto’s in huise neem. “Ons het klagtes in hierdie verband gekry. Ons voel dat dit onaanvaarbaar is dat foto’s in huise geneem word, aangesien dit ‘n sekuriteitsrisiko vir mense inhou,” het me. Inga Gilfillan, voorsitter van die Soutpansberg Belastingbetalersvereniging (SBBV) gesê. Die SBBV het ‘n brief in hierdie verband aan die munisipaliteit gerig. Die brief is gedateer 25 Oktober en is per hand afgelewer. Die SBBV het nog nie ‘n antwoord ontvang nie. Gilfillan het inwoners gemaan om die waardeerders in hul huise toe te laat, maar slegs wanneer hulle seker is van die persoon se identifikasie. Sy het ook gevra dat hulle die persoon deur die huis vergesel. Met die samestelling van die vorige waardasierol was een van die SBBV se besware dat die waardeerders nie in die erwe ingekom het nie. “Die waardeerders is al fluks besig, maar ons wil graag weet wie hierdie persone is, wat hulle kwalifikasies is en hoe hulle uiteindelik by die bedrag uitgekom het waarteen die eiendom waardeer is,” sê Gilfillan.

Jana Smith, wat namens die Soutpansberg Sakekamer op die waardasiekomitee dien, sê dat die munisipale waardasie ‘n markwaardasie is, waar daar nie in elke liewe huis ingegaan hoef te word nie en waar daar ook van blokwaardasies gebruik gemaak mag word. “Ek kan nie sien waarom daar foto’s geneem moet word nie. Dit is ‘n algemene waardasie waar daar gekyk word na die tydperk waarin die huis gebou is, die toestand van die huis, die oppervlakte en die grondwaarde wat veral deur die omgewing bepaal word. Foto’s word soms geneem wanneer die individu self ‘n waardasie aanvra, wat nie in hierdie geval geld nie,” sê Smith en voeg by dat ‘n markwaardasie verband hou met die huidige waarde van die eiendom. Dit is die prys waarvoor die eiendom tans sal verkoop, sou dit onmiddellik in die mark kom. Daar is ook vervangingswaardasies, wat hoër as die markwaardasie is, en beleggingswaardasies, wat veral vir kommersiële geboue gebruik word. Smith sê dat die enigste geswore waardeerder in die dorpis Kern en Dekker prokureurs en Suwil Rudolph by Van Heerden en Rudolph Prokureurs is. “Ons vertrou dat die munisipaliteit hulle huiswerk gedoen het en geregistreerde waardeerders gekry het. The business area has not been completed yet. According to Mr Takalani Musandiwa of TM Engineering Services, who spoke at the launch of the project in February this year, the project in Some parts of the roads in the business area in Eltivillas are still under construction. the residential area comprised the rehabilitation of 1,32km of streets from tar to asphalt. Resident and businessman Mr Mehul Patel expressed his satisfaction on 4 November when he saw Polokwane Surfacing taking over and starting to tar. For the past months up to now, they have been experiencing a lack of street lights in First Street and a breakdown of Telkom telephone lines. “The infrastructure had been damaged and, because there are no street lights, armed robbers have been targeting us,” said Patel. Another problem was that the street is now at one level and driveways at another level. “Why should there be a difference in levels? Everybody will have to redo their driveways. We are a patient, taxpaying, law-abiding community with no rioting. Why do we have to bear the brunt of the council’s incapacity?” asked Patel. The signage on the streets needs to be replaced and people are speeding. This brings to mind the fact that with the tarring of Munnik Street in town, the signage was only replaced after serious accidents took place and a lot of pressure came from the community. Well-known resident Mr Dave Patel might have expressed the general feeling of the residents when he said in the beginning of November: “They are progressing, but it is a nightmare.” A portion of the paved roads in the business area has been completed. In the past months, customers of some of the businesses had difficulty reaching them. Ms Inga Gilfillan, chairperson of the Soutpansberg Ratepayers Association, expressed her sympathy with businesses like Easybuild and their customers, who suffered inconvenience. “The incapacity to manage the project in the business area is shocking. Easybuild is the biggest hardware business in town and probably in the province,” said Mehul Patel. More than one customer told the Zoutpansberger that they wouldn’t go to that area till the road works were finished. “It is dangerous when it rains and there is mud, and trucks are offloading on both sides of the road and obstruct the way,” said one resident. Fortunately, the owner of Easybuild, Mr Nizam Aboobaker, takes a positive stance on the whole matter. “They are busy and they are working and you can’t rush it. That there would be losses, that is kind of obvious. I don’t want to say anything negative about the constructors and builders,” says Aboobaker. A progress report in respect of the streets in the residential area and the business area is still being awaited from the Makhado Municipality. Crime

Man arrested after robbery and murder The SAPS at Musina arrested a 35-year-old Johannesburg male suspect in connection with charges of murder, attempted murder and house robbery on Saturday. The spokesperson for the Musina police, Lt Peter Mudau, said that the suspect, who has been identified as Xolani Ronald ‘Khulani’ Dombeni, and three other suspects, who are still at large, allegedly entered a house at Frost Avenue. “They then robbed the inhabitants of at least R500 000 in cash and three mobile phones,” Mudau said. “The four were armed with pistols, which they used to threaten the victims. The police recovered R243 000 and three phones.” After the robbery, said Mudau, the four suspects met a 35-year-old Bangladesh man, Mr Debnash Ratan, along Hans van der Merwe Street and shot him in the chest. “The victim died,” Mudau confirmed. Mudau added that the four men then ran away from the scene of the crime and met another man who was also walking along Hans van der Merwe Street. “They shot him in the stomach,” Mudau said. “The victim was rushed to the hospital and was later identified as Edwin Nega, who is 34 years of age. Nega is responding well to medical treatment so far.” The police managed to arrest Dombeni, while the other three suspects evaded arrest. “We will do our best as law-enforcers to make sure that even those other three suspects are arrested and brought to book,” stated Mudau. Dombeni resides at Zonkezizwe Zone 3, Kathlehong, in Johannesburg.

Krokodilplaas weer die slagoffer van stormweer “‘n Windstorm het ons alweer getref – soos ‘n tornado!” So het mev. Sandra Boshoff van die Ratho Krokodilplaas in die Pontdrif-area hierdie week gesê. Dit is die tweede keer hierdie jaar dat die plaas, wat op die oewer van die Limpoporivier geleë is, deur ‘n storm getref word. Die boerdery het gedurende Januarie se vloede sowat 20 000 krokodille verloor, nadat vloedwaters die krokodiltonnels oorstroom het en al die klein krokodille meegesleur het. Volgens Sandra het ‘n verskriklike hael- en windstorm Vrydag, 8 November, oor die plaas getrek. “Ons kinders wat op die buurplaas bly kon nie glo daar was ‘n storm op die plaas nie; by hulle het dit glad nie gereën nie,” het Sandra gesê. Buiten vir die krokodilhokke wat omgewaai is, het boomtoppe ook in die slag gebly. “Ek is baie dankbaar my ou huis se dak is nog ongeskonde,” het Sandra gesê. Haar tuin het na die storm soos ‘n slagveld gelyk van al die afgebreekte bome en takke.

Sandra kon nie ‘n presiese beraming gee van die skade wat aangerig is nie, maar het wel aangedui dat die herstel van die hokke ‘n klomp geld gaan kos. “Dit is maar deel van die speletjie – betaal en werk – maar boer wil ons boer,” het sy gesê. Volgens wat vasgestel kon word, het verlede Vrydag se storm nie so ‘n wye impak gehad soos voorverlede week se twee-dae-lange storm nie. Enkele plase in die Waterpoort-area is getref, maar dié keer net deur hael. Ander plase, soos die van Schuldpad Boerdery, het berig dat hulle swaarder Nuut-geboude krokodiltonnels is platgevee deur ‘n sterk stormwind wat oor die Ratho in die eerste storm as in die laaste storm getref is. Hasty relocation of rhino after latest slaughter in reserve The last remaining rhino in the Nwanedi Provincial Game Park, in the Tshipise-district, had to be relocated urgently this week for its own safety. This follows after two dead white rhino cows were discovered in the reserve. The shocking discovery was made by rangers on Monday, 4 November, during a routine flight over the reserve. According to information supplied by the police, one of the rhinos had both its horns hacked off. The spokesperson of the Limpopo Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mr Patrick Selehale, confirmed the incident this week. He added that this most recent poaching incident had

spurred park officials to have the surviving rhino cow, also a white rhino, moved to a place of safety. The move was done this week in great secrecy, Selehale said, for the protection of the rhino. As far as the Zoutpansberger could determine, the Nwanedi Reserve had a total of six rhinos at the beginning of year. The only other surviving rhino from Nwanedi is the bull calf called Pemba, who now lives at The Rhino Orphanage near Mokopane. Pemba became an orphan when his mother was killed and her horns hacked off in front of him during June this year. Few can forget the sad sight of Pemba mourning by the side of his slain mother for days, licking at

her spilled blood. His caretaker at the orphanage, Ms Karen Trendler, spoke to the Zoutpansberger a fortnight ago, and confirmed that Pemba is doing very well. “He made friends with one of our orphan warthogs and loves playing in the mud,” said Trendler. In the meantime, the total number of rhinos poached in South Africa since the beginning of the year totals 825. This is according to the latest figures released by the Department of Environmental Affairs on 6 November. Mentally ill man stabs official at SASSA office

Nelia en haar tweelingsuster, Rina, is op 2 Mei, 1954, in Witrivier gebore. Hulle het saam met hul jonger suster, Ria, in die destydse Pietersburg (Polokwane) opgegroei. Nadat sy aanvanklik as onderwyser opgelei is, het sy, sowel as haar twee susters, in hul bekende ma se voetspore gevolg. Tannie Nelie van Mollendorf (aan al haar kollegas bekend as Mollie), sowel as aldrie haar dogters, was jare lank verpleegsusters in Polokwane se hospitale. Ria is steeds werksaam in Polokwane en Rina in Australië. Nelia het ‘n hegte band met haar ma gehad, veral nadat laasgenoemde ‘n weduwee geword en afgetree

het. Nadat Hennie en Nelia in 1982 getroud is en hulle in Mak hado (Louis Trichardt) gevestig het, het Hennie as Kommissaris van Binnelandse Sake bedank en in 1984 op Le vubu begin boer. Hulle het twee seuns, Hendrik en Pieter. “Toe sy 14 jaar gelede borskanker opgedoen het, het sy God gevra vir genade om haar kinders hul skoolloopbaan te sien voltooi. Die onlangse ontdekking van kanker in die lewer en buikholte het hul nogtans heeltemal onkant gevang,” sê die familie. Nadat Nelia op 13 Oktober eers in die Zoutpansberg Pri vaathospitaal opgeneem is en later in die Wilgershospitaal in Pretoria, waar die ontstellende ontdekking gemaak is, is sy onverwags op 6 November oorlede. Haar familie vind egter troos in die feit dat sy ‘n lang

lyding gespaar is. Nelia sal altyd deur haar familie en vriende onthou word vir haar lus om te lewe, haar goedversorgde voorkoms en haar liefde vir tuinmaak en plante, veral orgideë. Sy sal besonder baie gemis word deur Hennie, Hendrik, Pieter en Luzaan, vir wie sy voluit geleef het. “Nelia laat ‘n enorme leemte in ons harte en by al ons familiekuiers!” sê die familie.

The Makhado (Louis Trichardt) office of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) was closed for service on Monday, after a 29-year-old mentally ill man had stabbed an official with a knife. According to eyewitnesses, a man arrived outside the office and started shouting that he wanted his money. Onlookers were shocked when he suddenly produced a knife and stabbed a female official in the shoulder. Limpopo SASSA’s spokesperson, Mr Norman Kutama, denied the rumour that the official was attacked inside the office. “The official was managing the queue outside the office for smooth service, when a man stabbed her once in the shoulder,” Kutama said. According to Kutama, the victim was rushed to the Zoutpansberg Private Hospital for immediate medical attention and was discharged on the same day. All staff received professional counselling following the incident. “The counselling is meant to help them re-adjust to the working environment,” he stated. “We also thank the police, who responded to the incident quickly.” Kutama advised the guardians of the mentally ill to always try to accompany them whenever they visit the office. “Some mentally ill clients might be impatient and could also take time to understand when we explain about the processes for grant applications or re-applications,” he said. After the man had stabbed the official, the office closed its doors for the whole day. Clients, some of whom had travelled all the way from Nthabalala and Nzhelele, returned without having been helped. The police’s provincial spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, confirmed that the suspect was arrested and charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. “The victim didn’t sustain any grave injuries,” Otto said. “The suspect is a regular, mentally ill patient and the lady is the one who regularly assists

him. He will appear in court either today (Tuesday) or on Wednesday.” When the Zoutpansberger visited the SASSA office on Tuesday, two security officers were seen among a throng of clients. “People should feel safe and free to visit the office,” said Kutama. Landbounuus

85 Combat Flying School is under new command

Last Thursday (7th) not only saw the birthday of Lt Col Frans Jacob Labuschagne, but was also the day he was welcomed as the new officer commanding of 85 Combat Flying School (CFS) at AFB Makhado. Boasting 3 370 military flying hours, Labus chagne was born on 7 November 1975 at AFB Langebaanweg and took over command from Lt Col Daan van der Linde. Labuschagne joined the South African Air Force (SAAF) in 1994 after he had matriculated from the Vredenburg High School. transferred back to Langebaanweg in 1999, where he completed his instructor’s course. A few years followed where he tutored on the Cessna 185. During 2002, the new officer commanding received his fighter pilot training at 85 CFS Hoedspruit, after which he also completed the Cheetah operational conversion course at 2 Squadron at AFB Makhado, and served as the surface warfare and survival officer. Labuschagne also spent some time in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, when he was deployed there as the aviation element commander in 2012, supporting the United Nations’ peace-keeping mission. Apart from flying the Gripen, Labuschagne has also performed low-level aerobatic displays in the PC 7 MKII Astra and the Impala. He is also an A1 category pilot attack instructor on Hawk aircraft.

Soldiers remember their fallen friends Remembrance Day was commemorated at the Turbi Hills Shellhole in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on Sunday, 10 November, to remember the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty. Members of the MOTHs (Memorable Order of the Tin Hats) could be seen wearing a red poppy as Remembrance Day is also known as Poppy Day. Several wreaths were laid at the memorial wall of Turbi Hills. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November (or near the 11th) since hostilities of World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In World War I, about 9 million combatants gave their lives, and in World War II, an estimated 70 million died. The red poppy tradition has a very touching origin. Red poppies were the first flowers to grow over the soldiers’ graves

in Flanders, a region of Europe that overlies parts of Belgium and France. The tradition began with a poem In Flanders Fields, written in 1915 by Canadian doctor and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. “The son of a soldier, McCrae fought with Canadian forces in the Second Anglo-Boer War. He was 41 at the start of World War I and, as a physician, qualified to join the medical corps. He declined and instead volunteered for a fighting unit where he served as a gunner and medical officer…” reminds the Turbi Hill Shellhole on its social network page.

Boarding at SPCA must be booked in advance The SPCA in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) reminds pet owners who wish to board their pets (cats and dogs) at the kennels during the December holidays to please book in advance. Bookings can only be made between 08:00 and 16:00 with Lawrence on 082 965 5151 and in the evening between 18:30 and 19:00 with Bea at 082 424 5712 or 015 516 0412. Mere phone messages or messages with kennel staff other than Lawrence or Bea will not be accepted. All cats and dogs must be inoculated, dewormed, bathed or dipped before coming into the kennels. Proof of yearly inoculations, as well as rabies inoculation, must be produced. Pets must be inoculated at least ten days or longer before they are brought in. If a pet is on medication while boarding, Lawrence and Bea must be made aware of this. For people who intend leaving their pets behind at home during holiday, adequate arrangements should be made with a reliable person to care for them, taking into account that there will be fireworks during the season.

The boarding fees per animal per day are R40 per dog and R30 per cat. The office hours at the SPCA are from 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and from 08:00 to 13:00 on Saturday. The office is closed on Sundays and on public holidays. People who bring dogs in for boarding must see that they are in before closing time. People who have dogs boarding over weekends will have to fetch them on Monday unless arrangements are made before the time. The SPCA is also in need of books and magazines, as well as jumble (clothes, shoes, toys, kitchen utensils, ornaments and any other jumble no longer needed) for their regular jumble sales. It can be dropped off at the kennels between 08:00 in the mornings till 16:00. The SPCA also does recycling of glass bottles, newspapers, magazines, plastic, tin cans and office paper. Tyd min om wenfoto’s in te skryf vir kalender Die streek se fotograwe het nog ‘n week tyd om hul wenfoto’s in te skryf vir die Zoutpansberger en Limpopo Mirror se gewilde jaarlikse kalenderfoto-kompetisie. Oudergewoonte word daar gesoek na daardie spesiale foto wat die uniekheid van die Soutpansberg-streek uitbeeld en staan enige iemand die kans om deel van die R8 400 in vanjaar se kompetisie op te raap. Die foto’s kan per e-pos gestuur word, of op CD ingehandig word by die kantore van die Zoutpansberger te Joubertstraat 16B in Makhado (Louis Trichardt). Elke inskrywing moet vergesel wees van die fotograaf se naam, kontakbe-

sonderhede, waar die foto geneem is en met watter kamera dit geneem is. Uit die inskrywings sal die koerantgroep 12 wenfoto’s kies wat opgeneem sal word in ‘n A2-formaat, volkleur 2014-kalender. Elk van die wenfoto’s sal teen R700 by die fotograaf aangekoop word. Die kalender sal deur die Zoutpansberger en Limpopo Mirror gebruik word vir bemarkingsdoel eindes, maar sal ook aan die publiek beskikbaar gestel word om te koop teen ‘n minimale bedrag. “Alhoewel daar na tegniese aspekte van die foto gekyk sal word, soos helderheid, resolusie en kleur, moet die foto uiteindelik net ‘n mooi kalenderprentjie maak. Enige iemand kan dus inskryf en jy hoef nie noodwendig ‘n professionele fotograaf te wees nie,” sê Andries van Zyl, nuusredakteur van die Zoutpansberger. Een van Cornelia Horn van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) se inskrywings van die voëllewe in die Kruger Nasionale Wildtuin wat sy met haar Panasonic DMCFZ7 kamera afgeneem het.

Hoërskool spog met kantoor vir die jeug

Dié kantoor is voorheen die Vryboom FM-kantoor genoem. “Dit is asof die kinders hierdie jaar nuwe moed begin skep het. Vir 2104 is ons visie ‘to lead the change’. Die kantoor is lekker geleë, aangesien die meeste van ons uitreike gedurende pouses plaasvind,” sê Marcel en voeg by dat hul ondersteuning van die skool verder strek as berading van die jongmense. “Ons gaan ook help met ‘n dagboek, ‘n nuwe webwerf en die installasie van beligtingstoerusting. Dit gaan alles daarom om die skool se beeld uit te bou,” sê Marcel. “Die nuwe jeugkantoor pas perfek in by ons visie om die skool ‘n waardegedrewe skool te maak en ons vertrou dit gaan tot voordeel van die leerlinge, die skool en die gemeenskap wees. Volgende jaar gaan ons voluit om waardes vas te lê en ons glo dit sal ook die dissipline verbeter,” sê Muller. Die leerlinge is nou met eksamen besig, daarom word die kantoor nie tans voltyds beman nie, maar sal in die nuwe jaar voluit afskop. “Ons koördineer die Jeugforum van die dorp se aktiwiteite by die hoërskool. Agapé, Emmanuel, Shammah Bedieninge, die VEK, die AGS en die twee NG kerke is betrokke by die Jeugforum,” sê Marcel.

Brief

Hier het ‘n man tussen manne gestap ‘n Bekende inwoner van die streek, mnr. Ben Visser, is op 14 September oorlede. Dié brief is ‘n huldeblyk aan ‘n merkwaardige inwoner:

s mens deur die Strydom-tonnel ry en by sy bek uitkom na die noorde, ontvou ‘n plat, boswêreld voor jou. Dit is Ben Visser se bos. Dit is Hoedspruit, Klaserie, Timbavati en ander privaat wild reserwes. Dit was vir jare Ben se kantoor. Die knoppiesdoringbome saam met die rooibosraasblaar, die vaalbos vaderlandswilger, en ander was die mure van sy kantoor. Hy het hulle gesien as hulle nuwe vlindersagte blare uitkom, en die herfsblare afval. Die blou hemel was sy kantoor se plafon, en hy het die groot wit wolke gesien dryf en soek na ‘n plek om hulle welkome water uit te gooi. Sy musiek was die boor se hamer wat in die aarde in kou en soek na water, of die dreuning van sy kruiptrekker wat stoei om ‘n pad deur die bos oop te druk. As jy hom op die reusekruiptrekker sien, weet jy die mense wat die masjien gemaak het, het eers Ben se mate gevat voor hulle die masjien gebou het. Die masjien moes hom pas soos ‘n pak klere. In hierdie bos het hy vir hom monumente gebou wat sal bly lank nadat Ben se skaduwee lank geword het en die son vir hom ondergegaan het. Hy het na ‘n beter plek gegaan. Hy het hierdie bos makgemaak vir die mense wat nie kon nie. Hy het ‘n pad gemaak na die plek om te boor vir water. Hy het met sy drade die geheimenisse van waar die water onder die grond was, uitgevoel en dit met geduld oopgeboor. Kort-kort ‘n bietjie uitspoegsel van die boor

gewas, en op ‘n hopie gegooi, en so gelees wat om die boorpunt aangaan. “Hy word growwer, en ek dink ‘n breek is naby.” Dan die breek. Die water se sterkte getoets en water geproe. “Dit is lekker water.” Dan die kamp bou. Dan die paaie bou, en skraap. Dan kom die damme in die droë lope en verander die dorre vlaktes in ‘n paradys. By al die boorgate, en kampe, en damme het hy ‘n ashoop gemaak want die rooibosvuurtjie was sy TV. Saans het hy lank in die vuur gekyk en gesien hoe sonlig wat vir honderde jare in die rooiboshout vasgevang was nou los gelaat word om Ben warm te maak en sy vleisie te braai. Ben het daar gesit en geluister na die geskree van die jakkalse wat verkondig het van die nuwe pad. Die wolwe het dit beaam, en later het die leeu vir Ben laat weet hy moet onthou hy was eerste daar, en hy kan maar gaan rus. As die kole hulle wit jassies aangetrek het dat hulle nie kan koud word nie, het Ben ook gaan inkruip en sy moeë lyf het hom in ‘n diep slaap laat wegsak. Dit was my voorreg om ‘n paar keer saam met hom om sy vuurtjie te sit. Dit is van my kosbaarste herinnerings in my lewe. Sy bedaarde stem wat jou weggevoer het op ervarings in die bos. Leeustories, humor, gebeure, sy vrou en kinders, sy lief en leed het stadig ‘n deel van jou nuwe kennis geword. As mens al die ashopies waar Ben gesit het wit op ’n kaart aanteken, sal die kaart soos ‘n tarentaal lyk van al die wit kolletjies. Hierdie ashopies van hom het elk sy eie storie gehad. By elkeen was daar ‘n ander storie. ‘n Ander lief, en dalk ‘n ander leed.

Net voor sy dood het Kobus hom gevat om te gaan afskeid neem van sy monumente. Die damme het geblink in die son en vir hom vertel: ‘die vloede wat Hoedspruit platgevee het, het ons niks gemaak nie, want ‘n man wat kan het ons gebou.’ Al die harde werk en gebeure in die bos het op Ben ingewerk. Dit het van Ben ‘n man met ‘n harde kern gemaak soos ‘n rooibosboom. ‘n Man uit een stuk. ‘n Man tussen manne en ‘n reus in die bos. Almal het hom geag, en opgesien na hierdie man, want hy was ‘n man! Ben was lief vir die bos.

Ben was lief vir sy vrou en kinders. Ben was lief vir sy volk. Ben was lief vir sy God! Ek groet jou my vriend, maar sal jou nooit vergeet nie. Bokkie (Ben se eggenoot), jy was ‘n ware maat, vrou, en vriend vir Ben en ons hoop dat die Here jou sal seën. Lees Psalm 23 en as die wêreld jou druk, Filippense 4:13. Is Stonehenge se “spook” dalk rêrig?

a aanleiding van verlede week se berig oor die spook wat glo ‘n intrek geneem het in die Stonehenge-huis in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is die volgende brief ontvang: Ek het die storie gelees oor die ”spook tannie” en gedink ek moet julle net e-pos. Ek en my verloofde het so ongeveer ‘n jaar gelede rondgery in die dorp - niks om te doen nie. Dit was ‘n Sondag, sal dit nooit vergeet nie, toe ek voorstel ons gaan kyk net gou hoe dit daar by die spookhuis lyk, want ons albei het al gehoor van die spook, maar nie een van ons het dit geglo nie. Ons het opgery na die huis toe, dit was seker so ongeveer 15:30, dié Sondagmiddag. So klein stukkie grondpad, en dan ‘n groot grasperk, toe ons die huis sien, het ons dadelik die ou tannie

gesien. Sy het op die stoep gesit, op die deel wat na die dorp toe kyk, (as jy voor die huis staan, regterkant van die huis). Sy was op ‘n wieg stoel, en daar was twee (dalk meer) honde wat ons kon sien. Toe ek haar sien het ek so groot geskrik dat ek vir my verloofde gesê het “draai net om, draai net om, sommer hier op die gras!” Ek het nie geweet of dit ‘n tannie was wat daar gebly het nie, en of dit die “spook” was nie. Dit was ‘n baie ou tannie met spierwit hare, die honde was groot gewees - kan nie mooi onthou watter soort nie. ewers in die nag word Daisy wakker. Vir ‘n oomblik wonder sy of dit Drachma of Elvis was, maar dan oorval die naarheid haar weer. Sy soek naarstigtelik na haar flits en storm vervaard na die toilet toe. Vir ‘n verandering is daar geen versigtigheid vir slange, skerpioene of agtvoe tiges nie en sy haal haar bestemming net betyds. Toe sy die vyfde keer haar kop in die porselein indruk, besef sy sy het ‘n groter probleem as die naar – haar ingewande dwing ook na die ander uiterste van haar dermkanaal! Herhaaldelik. Aanhoudend. Teen dagbreek hang Daisy soos ‘n afgeslagte rooibokvel oor die toilet. Sy het vir ‘n paar minute op ‘n keer met haar kop teen die muur aan die slaap geraak. Haar flits skyn flouerig op die vloer en Daisy wens kliphard vir ‘n mamba om haar uit haar lyding te verlos. Uiteindelik is dit die kouekoors wat haar genoeg motiveer om weer tussen haar wit lakens en komberse te gaan inkruip. Die Bosbewoner staan besorgd op toe Daisy in loop. “Ek is siek, Bos. Buite hoop”, prewel sy en kruip bibberend onder haar beddegoed in. “Daise, ek gaan maak gou vuur in die donkie. Jou pyjamas is papnat gesweet en jy lyk maar toiingrig. ‘n Skuimbad gaan jou beter laat voel en vinnig daai kouekoors ook breek.”

Openbaring 5:1-14 ink ‘n bietjie na oor wat gebeur het toe ons Here Jesus mens geword het. Hy het ‘n liggaam gehad en is ter dood veroordeel, maar Hy het uit die graf opgestaan en so die mag van die dood oorwin. Na Jesus se opstanding is Hy deur verskeie mense gesien. Hy het steeds ‘n liggaam gehad, hy het geëet en iemand kon aan Hom vat en tog kon Hy deur die muur ‘n vertrek ingaan. (Joh. 20:19) Thomas, wat nie teenwoordig was nie, kon dit nie glo nie. ‘n Week later sê Jesus vir Thomas: “Bring jou vinger hier en kyk na My hande; en bring jou hand en steek hom in My sy, en moenie langer ongelowig wees nie, maar wees gelowig.” (Joh. 20:27). Toe glo Thomas en hy antwoord in vers 28: “My Here en my God.” Dit is Jesus wat opgevaar het na die hemel en wat beskryf word as die “Lam van God” en ook as “Die Leeu uit die stam van Juda.” (Openbaring 5:5-6). Jesus is nou in die hemel, Hy sit op die troon van God. In die hemel neem Hy ons gebede na die Vader. Dieselfde Jesus stort ook Sy seën op ons uit. (Ef. 1:3). So seker as wat Christus in die hemel is, in ‘n verheerlikte liggaam, so sal ook al God se kinders eendag daar wees. Ons sal ook verheerlikte liggame hê soos Christus. Prys die Here! Eendag word ons ook verenig met ons Verlosser in die Hemel - 079 5168303

Brief

Daisy begin behoorlik nesskrop hier op die land se noordelike grens, hier waar die drie lande hande vat en kyk hoe die Limpopo plek-plek sigbaar sy waters na die Indiese oseaan aanpor. Daisy se hoenders begin parmantig word en sy raak meer gewoond aan die wêreld sonder luukses.

Die Weg, die Waarheid en die Lewe

Daisy protesteer nie, maar tot die Bosbewoner se konsternasie begin sy huil. “Ag nee man, Daisy. Dis nie regverdig nie, jy weet mos mans weet nie wat om te doen met ‘n vrou wat huil nie. En jy lyk nie regtig toiingrig nie, jy lyk net blêddie siek en ek weet nie wat om te doen nie!” Hy storm senuweeagtig buite toe om die donkie te stook. Daisy huil weemoedig voort. “Dis makliker om te huil as om asem te haal,” fluister sy in haar kussing. ‘n Uur en nog drie besoeke aan die toilet later is die water warm. Die Bosbewoner krap in Daisy se stapels klere rond en lyk verlig toe hy op haar blou dogtertjiepyjamas met die vriendelike skapies afkom. Hy vat dit saam met ‘n handdoek badkamer toe en draai die krane oop, kom terug en help vir Daisy uit die bed uit. Daisy verseker hom sy sal self kan uittrek. Sy lê lusteloos in die bad totdat die warm water die ergste van die koors hokslaan. Sy was hare, borsel haar tande en strompel weer terug na haar bank toe. Die Bosbewoner het intussen haar bed na die beste van sy vermoë opgemaak en dra vir haar ‘n beker swart, bitter rooibostee aan. “Ek maak vir ons jaffles vir brekfis, hoor?” paai hy. Die tee word dik in Daisy se keel. “Ek wil niks eet nie, dankie. Maar maak vir jou ...” sug sy flou. Minute later, toe die geur van die Bosbewoner se ontbyt haar neus tref, hardloop Daisy weer toilet toe. Sy klim bewend van die kouekoors terug in haar slaapplek en draai haar rug op die wêreld. Haar koorsdrome kom uit iets tussen die Duiwel van die Kinderbybel en die kuns van Hieronymus Bosch, Salvador Dali en Picasso. Dis gesaai van slange

en skerpioene en iewers tussen die newels besef Daisy dat sy hardop skree en spinnekoppe van haar probeer afklap. Dit bly min of meer die roetine vir die volgende twee dae. Sy hou later skaars water in. Op die derde dag vang die Bosbewoner haar in ‘n redelike wakker en sober oomblik. “Daisy, jy is baie siek. Jy moet by ‘n hospitaal of kliniek uitkom. Maar onthou jy dat ek jou vertel het ek moet vandag vir besigheid weggaan? Ek sal sommer vir jou ‘n geleentheid reël saam met iemand van die myn wat more moet teruggaan Pretoria toe. Intussen sal ek vir vriend Mahindra vra om hier by jou te kom bly vandag. Jy kan nie so alleen hier bly nie, hy moet sy skoolmaatjie kom oppas.” Daisy het geen belang by die reëlings nie. Sy gee nie om om alleen te bly nie. Solank almal haar uitlos sodat sy net kan slaap; as sy wakker is word sy bang sy gaan níé dood nie ... Twee dae later kan Daisy net blertsies onthou: die Bosbewoner wat haar goed in ‘n bakkie laai, die verskrikte vreemdeling wat haar aflaai by die Gedenkhospitaal op Louis Trichardt, die gesukkel om ‘n aar te kry om ‘n drup vir haar aan te sit. “Haai Daisy, hoe voel jy?” Daisy draai haar kop na die bekende stem toe. Sy was nog nooit so bly om haar suster te sien nie. Daisy begin saggies huil. “Nou gaan ek nie daardie eksotiese slaai kan maak met die roket en radyse wat ek geplant het nie. En dink jy Bos sal onthou waar Bessie se weglênes is en dat Drachma en Elvis se hok saans toegemaak moet word?”

Muurbalspelers van regoor Suid-Afrika het vanaf 7 tot 9 November deelgeneem aan die dubbelstoernooi in Oos London. Drie spelers van Limpopo is opgeneem in die SA Plattelandspan. Ronel Welman van die Soutpansberg Muurbalklub en Kobus Minnaar (Tzaneen) eindig algeheel derde in die afdeling vir gemengde dubbels. Ook in die dubbels vir vroue beïndruk Ronel waar sy en Emmie van Zyl (Polokwane) algeheel tweede eindig. Busy weekend for local cyclists The past weekend saw not only the annual Fighter Town Cycling Challenge being hosted, but also the club championships of the P&L Cycling Club of Makhado (Louis Trichardt). The Fighter Town Challenge was held on Saturday at AFB Makhado and attracted a large number of local entries. During this race, cyclists competed in a 70km and a 55km road race, which took them over runways and past some fighter aircraft on display. In the 70km race, it was a neck-andneck race. Both Alan Gordon and Neil Hanekom finished the race in a time of 01:36:39. Third to finish was Lourens Beeslaar in a time of 01:47:30. In the women’s category of the 70km race, the

podium was dominated by cyclists from other clubs. Lenise Henning clinched victory in a time of 01:51:32. Second and third were Annemarie Lindeque and Corné Nel, finishing the race in 02:09:02 and 02:15:50 respectively. First overall winner in the 55km race was local cycling star CP van Wyk in a time of 01:21:38. Milliseconds after him were Chris de Klerk in second place and Rick Coetzee in third. They finished in a time of 01:21:39. In the women’s race, local cyclists clinched the top three positions. First was Renata Joubert in a time of 01:27:28. Second and third were Amanda Kruger and Jenay McLeod, finishing in 01:39:32 and 01:46:39 respectively. The Fighter Town Challenge also

served as the club championship road race for the P&L Cycling Club. First, second and third were CP van Wyk, Rick Coetzee and Marco Roets. In the women’s category, Renata Joubert, Amanda Kruger and Jernay McLeod took the first three places. On Sunday, the P&L Club held their mountain bike championship race in the form of a cross-country race in the Hanglip Forest. CP van Wyk clocked the best time over the two 15km laps in a time of 01:15:46; following him were Lourens Beeslaar in a time of 01:17:36 and Nico Geldenhuys in a time of 01:23:13. Marnelle Pessegueiro boasted the best lap times in the women’s race, with a combined time of 01:36:38. Sarah Venter had the second-best time of 01:43:27.
