Mysterious skull found

A human skull lies under the tree where the human bones were discovered.

Residents of Ha-Khakhu-Makuleni village in the Nzhelele area were severely shocked with the recent gruesome discovery of human bones in the adjacent bushes.

The bones were discovered by a few grannies who had been collecting firewood in the village.

The discovery of the bones follows an incident about two months ago, when a dog was found feeding from the leg of a human being.

The leg was then taken for forensic investigations, in order for DNA tests to be conducted.

When the leg was discovered in October this year, the police looked for the remainder of the

body in the surrounding bushes, but to no avail.

They even used police dogs in the search.

W/O Edward Tharaga, spokesperson for the Siloam police, said that an inquest docket had been opened, following the discovery. He added that a person’s clothes were found next to the bones.

“We were accompanied by members of the community, who also witnessed the discovery,” he said.

Residents of the area now state that they are cursed. They said that it was very strange that people were disappearing from the village.

“What wrong have we done to deserve this?” they asked.

The 47-year-old Mr Gideon Mudau was reported missing in the village on 15 August this year. A missing person’s file was opened and investigations into the matter are continuing.

Members of the community, together with the police, launched a search in the area, following his disappearance.

Speculation is that the bones are those of Mr Mudau.

The DNA results were not yet available at the time of going to press.

Mr Gideon Mudau is still missing.

Musina municipal manager suspended The Musina Municipal Council suspended its municipal manager, Mr Ntshavheni Abram Luruli, during a special sitting last Thursday.

The decision to suspend Luruli, according to the council, came after he had absconded from work for four months without permission from the council. It was revealed that Luruli had taken leave from 1 April and was supposed to have returned to work on 1 June, which he failed to do. Instead, he reported to office on Friday, 11 November.

Before he was suspended, Luruli was served with a letter, after a resolution was taken on

the intention to suspend him, during a council meeting held on 15 November. He was ordered to submit in writing why he thought the council should not suspend him. Luruli then responded and submitted a written response through his lawyer.

The controversial Luruli also faces charges of corruption, maladministration, failure to comply with the Municipal Finance Management Act and the unlawful awarding of tenders.

The spokesperson of the municipality, Mr Wilson Dzebu, confirmed Luruli’s suspension on Monday. He admitted that Luruli was being investigated by the Special Investigation Unit.

“The council suspended Luruli, following the findings and submission of a report to council by the Special Investigation Unit,” he said.

According to him, the municipal manager has been suspended with full salary, until the finalisation of the allegations against him. He said that Luruli was therefore instructed to vacate his office. He can only enter the municipal buildings by appointment, “because the council feels that his presence at work might jeopardise the investigation and possibly interfere with potential witnesses.”

“Upon receipt of the suspension letter, Luruli was ordered to hand in any of the municipality’s property within his possession, including his official cellphone, laptop, his office keys and any official item that may be required for service delivery during the period of his suspension,” Dzebu said.

National ministers to administer departments Several departments in Limpopo have been placed under the administration of national ministers from Monday, which will effectively leave a number of MECs out of work.

This follows the decision by the national cabinet last week to place the Limpopo Province under administration after an allegation that the province was on the verge of collapse, due to its inability to fulfill its financial obligations.

The Limpopo departments affected are the Treasury, Roads and Transport, Health and Social Development, Public Works and Education.

confirmed that the Limpopo provincial government has approached Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan to request an approval of additional overdraft facility. He said the request was made on 23 November, wherein the Limpopo government indicated they had used up their R757,3 million overdraft facility with the Corporations for Public Deposits of the SA Reserve Bank, which facilitates banking arrangements for national and provincial departments, including state-owned entities.

Manyi said Limpopo had requested that its facility should be increased by R1 billion to R1, 7 billion. “After carefully assessing the situation in Limpopo, a decision has been taken that members of the national executive will assume responsibilities for the provincial departments of treasury, education, roads and transport, health and social development and public works,” reads the statement.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo strongly welcomed the executive cabinet’s decision to place Limpopo Provincial Administration under administration and that it will be overseen by the national executive.

Limpopo Premier Mr Cassel Mathale said his provincial government would work harmoniously with the national executive until the process was finalised.

According to the Polokwane Observer, a weekly newspaper in Polokwane, the provincial secretary of Cosatu, Mr Dan Sebabi, commended the cabinet decision and said the union’s march four days before the ruling party’s provincial conference would call for Premier Cassel Mathale, among others, to step down immediately.

The Observer also quoted Democratic Alliance (DA) Provincial Leader, Desiree van der Walt, who said that the party would request the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) to take action against the heads of department and chief financial officers of the affected departments.

In the report by the Observer, the provincial head of the the African Christian Democratic Party’s (ACDP), Modiba Sedibane, said he would have preferred the entire provincial government to be put under administration and not just the five departments.

Congress of the People’s provincial chairperson Solly Mkhatshwa also said the party wanted the entire provincial government to be put under administration as well as some of the municipalities.

Ntsieni Maumela first president of Mudzi Award-winning author Dr Titus Ntsieni Maumela was inaugurated as the first president of the Mudzi Indigenous Faith Religion during a ceremony attended by traditional leaders, healers, politicians and many community members.

Maumela, who has more than 50 books under his belt and has won many literary awards, was inaugurated during an historic event that took place at the Thohoyandou Town Hall on Friday.

The organisation’s executive secretary, Mr Humbelani Nemakonde, said Maumela was being honoured for the role he had played in the development of the Tshivenda language and religion.

“He is the right man. He wrote his first book in 1952 and, even though he is retired, he continues to write. We are very

proud of his achievements,” said Nemakonde.

Speaking during the ceremony, Vho Thovhele Calvin Nelwamondo urged the organisation to work towards bringing back the Vhavenda culture, which he said is fading away fast.

Nelwamondo said the organisation had a huge task of reviving culture. He added that the new generation was lost and did not know their past, which was making it difficult for them to lead a meaningful life. He thanked the new democratic dispensation for making it possible for indigenous knowledge to be practiced without hiding it.

“Many of us consulted traditional healers in the dark of the night, but today we are happy that traditional healing and the indigenous knowledge system are taking their rightful palce

in society. People are no longer ashamed to consult in broad daylight,” he said.

He commended Maumela for the role he played in reviving culture. “I still remember I approached Maumela, complaining that tshikona dance was fast fading away, only to find that he was already involved in reviving it in villages,” added Nelwamondo.

He urged writers to look seriously at correcting the damage already done to the Venda language.

Representing the mayor of Vhembe, Cllr Lucas Manyuha said Maumela was old but continued to write books that changed people’s lives. “As a district, we are very proud to have you as one of our citizens.

You have hoisted the flag of Vhembe very high because of your work and it is befitting that you have been inaugurated as president today,” said Manyuha.

In his response, Maumela said he wrote as a social responsibility and was not expecting anything from the community. “I am very humbled to have been honoured while I am still alive. I did not know that what I was doing touched lives and that there were people who were noticing what I was doing. I am very much encouraged, “ he said .

According to Mrs Kutama Maseakhole of Muduluni, whose RDP house was severely damaged, the wind swept through the village, leaving everyone trying to take cover. Soon big raindrops pelted down.

This was followed by loud cracks of thunder and streaks of lightning, which lit the darkened neighbourhood.

The situation worsened for her, as deafening sounds started coming

from the roof.

She indicated that her RDP house’s windows were broken by the storm.

She added that the walls started to shake and the roof rattled and shook violently. The roof sheets were also torn off.

Most of the victims are from the poor rural area, where most of the people are unemployed.

The spokesperson of the Makhado Municipality, Mr Louis Bobodi said they had distributed food parcels to the affected families, including maize meal, cooking oil, beans and blankets.

He appealed to those whose houses were damaged by the storm to contact

the headman or ward councillors to register their damage.

The initial estimated damage caused by the storm is close to R700 000, but observers say it can be more. “We urge community members to help one another and our condolences and sympathy go to all affected families,” Bobodi said.

Last Friday, many villagers were still drying out mattresses, blankets, clothes and furniture. Some property was rendered unusable. At Tshikwarani, 23 houses were damaged, with eight at Muduluni, 15 at Madodonga and one at Manavhela suffering the same fate.

Nearly 50 families from Tshikhwarani, Manavhela, Muduluni and Madodonga in the Kutama area were left stranded last Thursday afternoon, when a big storm, accompanied by rain, damaged their homes and uprooted trees.

Mrs Josephina Mbedzi of Tshikhwarani lost her one-roomed house and all the goods inside were damaged. “When the storm started, I was inside the house. I thought of hiding inside the wardrobe, but I became very afraid. The wind blew the roof off and I was left in the roofless ruin,” she said.

Reggae star promotes healthy lifestyle

Khoroni brightens children’s faces

Well-known Limpopo reggae star Khakhathi Tshisikule and medical doctor Dr Ntevheleni Tshivhase will participate in the 15km Reconciliation Day Fun Run on Friday.

The race, the brainchild of the Thohoyandou Athletics Club, is to be held tomorrow at the FNB Makwarela Stadium and will go through the township and adjacent villages and back to the stadium.

The race will start at 06:30, while walkers will start at 06:00.

Race organizer and founder of Thohoyandou Athletics Club Mr Andrew Mavhona said the marathon was also a celebration of his achievements as a marathon runner. “I am what I am because of sport, and I encourage others not to look at sport from a distance, but also to participate in it,” he said.

He said it was his wish that many would participate in the event to help them to improve their health. “Many of us are so used to our cars that we do not even have time to walk or exercise. We only walk to our vehicles and the fun walk will fill in for that,” he said.

Six years ago, Khoroni Hotel staff members took it upon themselves to look after disadvantaged children in the Vhembe district. They have been giving Christmas gifts and other donations to the children since then.

Last weekend, they continued their tradition when they hosted more than 150 children for their annual Christmas party. The children were drawn from eight villages in Vhembe. The party was held at the hotel’s crèche section on Friday morning. The children had a full day of fun,

indicated their willingness to participate. “We are so blessed this year that we will have reggae star Khakhathi Tshisikule, who will encourage others to actively participate in sport. He said many taxi drivers had indicated that they would also take part.

Asked why he decided to take part in the race, Tshisikule of Zwi Mandlozini fame said he was promoting healthy living. “I have a big constituency and I hope my participation will encourage many to join the healthy living bandwagon,” he said. He said he would also be celebrating the release of his 11th album, Tshivhotshwa.

The Newspapers Association offers a bursary fund to Black Female Practitioners for a one year course, subject to attached conditions and criteria. The NASA Bursary Fund seeks to ensure continuing training and career development opportunities for professionals in the print media industry.

Vuwani police have arrested four suspects in connection with the rape of an 18-year-old girl and her 36-year-old mother. The incident happened last week Thursday at Lwamondo village.

According to police information, the suspects, who are between the ages of 22 and 24, forced open a window of the victim’s house. Once in the house, one suspect supposedly gagged the mother whilst the remaining suspects proceeded to her daughter’s room.

Sometime during the attack the

girl was allegedly dragged from her house and raped outside by one suspect, while her mother was also raped by another suspect. After the rape, the suspects fled from the scene on foot, making off with the victims’ cell phone, cash and clothing.

Shortly after the incident, police set up a task team to investigate the matter. The first arrest was made on Thursday, while the remaining three suspects were arrested over the weekend.

All four appeared in the Vuvani Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of rape and house

robbery. Their names are known to the Zoutpansberger / Limpopo Mirror but are being withheld until the time that they make a plea before the court.

In the meantime, provincial police spokesperson Lt Col Ronel Otto confirmed on Monday that the police are also still looking for three more suspects who had allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl at Mvelaphanda village. This incident happened at the same time that the daughter and mother were raped.

The two incidents could not be linked.

The NASA shall appoint an independent panel of experts to assess the applications.

Mayor Luruli joins HIV/Aids testing campaign Preparations for festive season start at border Leading by example in the fight against HIV/Aids, the mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Mavhungu Luruli was the first to be tested during the HIV/Aids counseling and testing campaign at the Louis Trichardt Caravan Park last Wednesday.

This comes after the Makhado Municipality, in partnership with the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital, decided to participate with all its employees in the HIV/Aids counseling and testing campaign.

Luruli said that the event came after she realised that

the municipality was distributing information regarding the pandemic to the general public, “while forgetting about its employees”.

She added that they decided to have an awareness campaign event focusing on the workers. “Except for those rendering essential services at the municipality, workers from other sections participated in the event,” Luruli said. She encouraged all municipal workers to get tested for HIV/ Aids and other diseases such as diabetes.

Luruli urged the workers to take care of their health and know their status. The campaign was celebrated under the theme Zero New HIV Infections.

The Zimbabweans and South African border authorities have put in place mechanisms aimed at dealing with congestion at the Beit Bridge border post during the festive season.

Zimbabwe’s regional immigration manager in charge of Beit Bridge Border Post, Mr Charles Gwede, told Limpopo Mirror that they had held a series of meetings with South African stakeholders on how they would jointly work together to speed up the process of clearing travellers during the Christmas holiday.

“We have various systems in place to co-ordinate and see how best we can tackle congestion during the festive period. As border stakeholders, we have held several inter-border meetings with our South African counterparts to discuss and explore ways and strategies aimed at dealing with congestion during this period. We need to work together with the South African authorities and exchange notes, because the issue of congestion on either side has an impact on both the sides of the border,” he said.

Gwede said they experienced a slight increase in the number of travellers who passed through the border last weekend, “largely because it was a month-end, when most travellers would be going for shopping. We anticipate ,

however, that there will be a huge influx of travellers passing through the border post as we approach the festive season,” Gwede said.

Traditionally, immigration officials at Beit Bridge Border Post handle an increased number of travellers during the festive season, most of whom will be Zimbabweans working in South Africa, flocking back into their country to spend Christmas with their families at home. “Other nationals, such as Zambians and Malawians, also use the Beit Bridge Border Post, resulting in pressure on our personnel. Therefore, we are working on various strategies to ensure that we speed up the clearance of travellers. We will categorise travellers and create more counters to enhance the clearance process,” he said.

Gwede added that they would suspend leave and off-days for their staff in the run-up to the festive season.

“As part of our decongestion drive, we will rearrange our shifts to maximize manpower between 22 and 25 December, when we anticipate that there will be a huge influx of travellers.

We will further dissolve the shift from three to two, to ensure that we have more officers per shift.

That will effectively manage the queue and speed up the clearance

process,” he said.

Gwede said they were expecting more officers from other stations to beef up the local staff complement and ensure that all check points and counters were adequately manned.

“We continue to urge other stakeholders to complement our efforts to ensure the smooth passage of travellers during the festive period. We will also tighten security at the border to deter touts and bogus clearing agents from accessing the border area.

We have put a fence around the border area to enhance security and there are access-controlled gates manned for 24 hours by police,” he added.

In the past, there was uncontrolled entry into the border area, resulting in touts and bogus clearing agents finding their way into the customs yard where they would swindle unsuspecting travellers (mostly foreigners) out of their money under the guise of offering assistance.

Beit Bridge is the busiest inland port of entry in sub-Saharan Africa, which handles a huge volume of both human and vehicular traffic passing through every day.

Commercial trucks destined for east and central African countries such as Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, also pass through the border post.

Suspected child smuggler arrested at border

A 37-year-old unregistered Zimbabwean crossborder transport operator was arrested for attempting to smuggle a group of nine children into South Africa through the Beit Bridge Border Post.

The children’s ages range between two and 12.

A suspect was arrested on Thursday at around 07:00, following the interception of his vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, at a road block along the Beit Bridge-Bulawayo highway. Police discovered that the car had a group of nine undocumented children on board, who were being transported to South Africa illegally.

Supt Conrad Manhai confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect would appear in court soon on charges of assisting border jumpers.

The minors were taken to the Save the Children (UK) centre in the border town, where they were offered temporary shelter.

“As police we continue to handle such cases of children being smuggled into South Africa through Beit Bridge. We would like to warn Zimbabweans based in South Africa against approaching such people to help them smuggle in their children. In fact, we continue to urge people to use the legal channels by acquiring travel documents,” he said.

The latest incident comes hot on the heels of a similar case, in which another 32-year-old local cross border transport operator was arrested for attempting to smuggle a group of border jumpers, among them 21 undocumented children.

He was spotted by South African police while loading the border jumpers into his kombi near Beit Bridge border post, leading to his arrest.

The border jumpers were then taken to the South African Home Affairs department and they were handed over to the Zimbabwean authorities.

Illegal cross border transporters normally help border jumpers cross the border into South Africa through undesignated entry points along the Limpopo River.

They then drive to the South African side where they pick up the border jumpers, before ferrying them to Gauteng, for fees ranging between R300 and R1 500.

Malange leads new Mudunungu Sanco A new Sanco branch was recently launched in Mudunungu village. It is situated in the Tshivhase territory under the traditional leadership of Chief RP Murigwathoho.

The executive committee of the branch consists of Mr Dovhani Malange (chairperson), Ms Shumani Tshamano (deputy chairperson), Mr Azwidowi Luvhengo (secretary), Ms Mashudu Masuwa (deputy secretary), Mr Takalani Mutshinya (treasurer) and Takalani Mudau (organising secretary). The departmental heads are Messrs

Vhonani Netsianda, Takalani Tshamano, Pfarelo Swethani, Rofhiwa Mulaudzi, Hulisani Mashau, Mesdames Violet Netshivhazwaulu, Martha Mutshinya, Zwikhetwa Nevondo and Nduvho Nembulu Nduvho.

According to Mr Malange, they will work to sustainably develop the village. He added that they will work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders. They will also conduct a community needs assessment for the creation of employment opportunities and will list all people without basic needs such as water, electricity

or houses. He promised that they will frequently report back to the community about their activities.

The committee will also approach the different development agencies for help and they will also work with the various government departments to improve facilities in the area.

He added that they will work hard to get the long-awaited access road and transport services from Tshikombani to Mudunungu to Siloam to lessen the burden on the road to Siloam Hospital.

More honour for local community builder

A new Sanco branch was recently launched in Mudunungu village. The nation-building efforts of well-known Limpopo community builder Mr Amie Chhaya did not go unnoticed when the Makhado Municipality honoured him during its last municipal council sitting.

Chhaya (82), who is known as the Minister of Blankets for dishing out blankets to the needy during winter, was honoured as the Ambassador of Goodwill and Peace by the municipality.

He also received a certificate signed by both Speaker David

Mutavhatsindi and Mayor Mavhungu Luruli.

Luruli said the areas have been blessed with many big names that made a difference in the lives of other people and Chhaya was first to be honoured. “We have many strong personalities in our area of jurisdiction, and we have decided to honour some of the individuals in order to strengthen what they do," she said.

Referring to Chhaya, Lurili stated that he had made many interventions to help the needy.

"Come winter, every one thinks of him because he gives blankets to those who cannot afford to buy them,” she said. “We are aware that not all the money he uses is his, and in honouring him we are also honouring all the businesspeople who work through him to assist the nation,” Luruli added.

Chaya is a retired politician who served two consecutive terms as a councillor at the municipality. An appreciative Chhaya said he was humbled to receive the honour from the municipality.

Excitement as new traffic circle opens in Thohoyandou The first phase of the Thohoyandou traffic circle, next to JJ Motors and the Sasol Garage, was officially opened last Thursday afternoon.

Mr Thilivhali Mulaudzi, the Thulamela traffic chief, officiated at the opening. Officials from his department were on hand to assist drivers who were having difficulties when entering the circle.

Traffic Chief Thilivhali Mulaudzi said they had scheduled the opening for November 25, but were hampered by the heavy rains which had fallen in the area. He said the circle would be an added bonus to motorists driving in the ever-growing Thohoyandou town whose traffic volume was always increasing.

“We expedited the opening of the circle to avoid the Christmas traffic rush where there will be heavy traffic as visitors and those working far come home for the festive season,” he added.

He urged drivers to lower their speed to 40 kph when approaching the circle. SAPD member robbed in Zim A 27-year-old SAPS member was attacked in Zimbabwe by three unarmed highway robbers, who got away with his car, US$300 and R4 000 cash and a laptop, police have said.

The local police spokesperson, A/ Insp Emmanuel Mahoko, said the incident occurred last Friday night.

“On Friday night, the victim was driving his car, a Mazda 3 with registration number BCA 281ND, along the Gokwe-Kwekwe road. He was in the company of a Zimbabwean friend, Prince Sibanda,” Mahoko said.

He said while on their way to Gokwe area, the victim then asked Sibanda to drive, while he took a nap.

After driving for a few kilometres, Sibanda stopped to pick up two hitchhikers. It is alleged that the two were in cahoots with Sibanda.

“Sibanda stopped the car and picked up his accomplices and they

drove off. After a few kilometres, he suddenly stopped and he and his accomplices started to assault the South African policeman. They subsequently dragged him out of the vehicle,” Mahoko said.

They beat and kicked the lone policeman and left him unconscious by the roadside before driving off.

“The victim was later spotted by another motorist, who took him to a local hospital, where he is receiving treatment,” said Mahoko.

The suspects are still at large and police have since launched a manhunt to find them. “We are also appealing to community members to assist us with information that could lead to the arrest of the three suspects. We also urge motorists, especially foreigners, to be wary of robbery syndicates operating on our highways,” Mahoko said.

Church hails donation from Watkins The head pastor at Thohoyandou Assemblies of God church, Dr Booi Mbedzi, hailed the R30 000 donation they received from Watkins Valeur and said it would make a big difference.

Mbedzi reacted after receiving a donation of R30 000 from Watkins’s CEO, Ms Celio Silber. The donation was handed over at the church’s auditorium on Saturday.

The CEO had visited the church to give the local elderly people Christmas gifts, when she noticed that the auditorium they were using for the event was still incomplete.

During the function, she surprised all when, after her speech, she called for the leadership of the church to ascend the stage to receive “a little token”.

She then handed a cheque of R30 000 to the resident pastor,

Pastor Mbedzi. “I have assisted this church since they started building it and I felt that I should still make a contribution that will help them finish their new building,” she said. She said her relationship with the church dated back several years.

She said it was during one of her visits to the church that she found people attending the service under a tree because the small church was very hot on that specific day.

“I am excited to be part of this project which will accommodate more people.

I know it needs a lot of money to complete such a massive project and this is the little contribution we can make. I will continue doing this until they finish,” she said.

Pastor Mbedzi was overwhelmed. “We are so grateful for the love she has shown.

Jail time for striking sister-in-law with axe A 32-year-old Beit Bridge resident was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Friday for striking his sister-in-law several times on the head with an axe, resulting in her sustaining severe injuries.

Joseph Masita of Tshapfutshe village outside Beit Bridge pleaded not guilty to a charge of

attempted murder, but was convicted by Regional Magistrate Owen Tagu, due to overwhelming evidence. Prosecutor Johannes Tlou said on 7 September, Masita spotted the victim, who was tending goats with his sister in the grazing area. Masita, who was armed with an axe, charged towards the two and they fled,

realising that their lives were in danger. Masita then took off after them and when he caught up with his sister-in-law, struck her several times on the head and fled from the scene. He was arrested the following day, following a tip-off. The blood-stained axe used in committing the offence was also recovered.

LGWMC conference The Living Gospel World Mission Church (LGWMC) under the leadership of Pastor Matsidiso Evelinah and Dr Pastor Masole Petrus Ragimana will celebrate its 14th anniversary during an international conference that will be held at the church's headquaters at Tshilivho Ha-Makhuvha this weekend.

The event started on Thursday already and will end on Sunday (18th).

The church's branches are located in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, South Africa and the Island of Zanzibar and delegates from all the branches attended the event.

The Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa: Children Ministry March in support of 16 Days of Activism against gender violence, and graduation ceremony

In support of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, the children’s department of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in South Africa has added its voice against the atrocities against women and children.

On Saturday, more than a thousand Sunday school children in their academic gowns took to the streets of Shayandima. Led by the leadership of the church, which included the national director

of children’s ministry, Adv Sam Tshabalala, Soutpansberg regional chairperson of the AFM, Dr Mackson Maanzwane and other senior church officials, they marched from P & L Hardware through the streets of Shayandima to the local satellite police station.

The leadership handed over a memorandum highlighting the plight of women and children. Adv Tshabalala told those gathered that they were there to make a statement against the continued violence perpetuated against children and particularly the girlchild.

“As one of the largest pentecostal churches in South Africa, we have realised the value of children in our society. We are building a future church, future leaders who should grow up respecting their parents and living within the perfect moral fibre,” he added.

He said children were entitled to the best in life, which included better education and that they live in peace and joy. He said that a nation that did not care for its children was doomed. He encouraged parents to discuss the dangers of diseases such as HIV/Aids and obesity. He said the 16 days should be extended to weeks, months and years and eventually become the African way of life.

From the Shayandima Satelite Police Station, the children marched to the AFM of SA Shayandima Auditorium, where the programme of graduation and promotion from Children Ministry into Youth Ministry started.

Zorro Ramovha laid to rest at Tsianda

Mamu Community Sports Development, an initiative that organises the annual SinthumuleKutama Easter Soccer Challenge, this week presented a certificate to Limpopo Mirror for the paper´s continuous support towards sports. Speaker after speaker who shared the podium during the funeral ceremony of Adv Munzhedzi Frederick “Zorro” Ramovha described him as a selfless, peace-loving, real freedom fighter and a person who was prepared to sacrifice his own life for the sake of the well-being of others.

His memorial service was held at the Tsianda Apostolic Faith Mission Church building last Friday afternoon, while the funeral service took place the following day.

During the ceremony, the provincial general secretary of the African National Congress, Mr Joe Maswanganyi, said that his organisation had lost a man

of strong calibre in Zorro. He severely criticized members of his organization’s youth league “who insult the leaders of the organisation in public”, saying the ANC will never tolerate such behaviour.

He also justified the recent move by the national parliament to put five Limpopo Provincial departments under administration, following reports of financial maladministration. He criticised those who say that the decision to take over the five departments was a political move.

He stressed the fact that the ANC cannot just stand aside and look “while self-centered people continue to squander taxpayers’ money as they please.”

Zorro was born 56 years ago.

After passing matric at Dimani High School, he registered for an LLB Degree at the University of Venda.

At that stage, he was an active member of the SACP, ANC, SASCO and COSAW. He left the country and went to exile in Zimbabwe and Zambia in 1992 before completing his degree.

He came back in 1994, the year in which he was awarded a bursary by the African National Congress to further his studies.

He completed his LLB Degree at the University of the Western Cape two years thereafter. He succumbed to a long illness on Sunday, November 27.

On 16 January 2012, Section 79 of the Correctional Matters Amendment Act, 2011 (Act No 5 of 2011) will be promulgated and new Correctional Services Regulations will be gazetted on the same day. Section 79 provides a new legal framework for the consideration of sentenced offenders for placement on medical parole. Regulations 29A AND 29B further regulates the granting of medical parole and the appointment and composition of the Medical Parole Advisory Board.

In terms of Section 79(3)(a) of the Act, the Minister must establish a Medical Parole Advisory Board to provide an independent medical report to the relevant role players in the consideration of medical parole applications.

The composition of the Medical Parole Advisory Board is regulated by Regulation 29B which provides as follows: The Minister must appoint a Medical Parole Advisory Board comprising of: (a) A chairperson with permanent sitting on the Board or a secundus in his or her absence. (b) A vice chairperson with permanent sitting on the Board or a secundus in his or her absence. (c) At least one member per province, who will be a non-permanent member of the Board to be co-opted to the Board by direction of the chairperson, when necessary, for the functioning of the Board.

Members appointed to the Board must be Medical Practitioners registered as such under the Health Professions Act, 1974 (Act, No. 56 of 1974) with a minimum of 5 years clinical, Psychiatric or internal medicine experience.

The Board will meet at least once per month at such place as determined by the Chairperson. A meeting of the Board will be properly constituted if the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson or their secundi and three co-opted members are present.

All Stars beat Magezi FC 2-1 in Vodacom match Nobela All Stars kept their title hopes alive by beating Magezi FC 2-1 in a Vodacom Promotional League match at the Malemulele Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

All Stars would have had nobody to blame but themselves had they lost the match, as they were the superiors when it came to ball possession throughout the game.

Their fast forward, Thembisani Nevhulamba, who under normal circumstances gives the opponents’ defence a tough time, could not live up to the fans’ expectations.

He was tightly marked.

The referee, Ms Lufuno Nemagovhani,

flashed the first yellow card in the 14th minute. Leabua Lemena of All Stars tackled Moses Karabo of Magezi from behind and the referee took no time to produce yellow.

Nobela All Stars were the first to find the net. Their Rastafarian striker, Rhulani Manganye, blasted in a rocket, following a cross from Thembisani Nevhulamba. At that stage, the game was 27 minutes old.

Stars continued to control the game, but the score remained unchanged until proceedings for the first half came to an end.

Xitsunguxo Hlungwani of All Stars left the field of play for a moment without the referee’s consent and was booked for that.

Realizing that their first goal scorer, Rhulani Manganye, was tired, they replaced him with Sydwell Ritsuri seven minutes into the last half. A defender of Nobela All Stars, Bongani Motswahae, handled the ball within his own penalty box.

It was a clear penalty for Magezi. Calvin Thantswa scored the equaliser from the penalty spot.

The home side did not lose hope. Instead, they continued to fight like a team until they snatched the winner via Aluwani Machaba late in the game.

The future looks bright for a promising young football referee, Avhasei Edgar Simba (27), of Phalama village in the Mutale area.

Simba was one of the match officials who were officiating during the national university tournment, which was staged at the University of Limpopo last week.

When he was officiating throughout the week, little did Simba know that he would be nominated as the best referee of the tournament. He was presented with a trophy, a gold medal, a soccer ball, a certificate and a bottle of wine.

After playing football for many years, Simba started a career as referee two years ago. At that stage, he was officiating at the Mutale Local Football Association. Some of the teams he played for during his heyday include Pile Shining Stars, Phalama Young Vultures, Mulodi Freedom Birds, Tshandama Try Together and Berea FC. He was promoted to referee in the SAB League last season, where he stayed for one season before gaining promotion to officiate in the Vodacom Promotional League this season.

When asked as to whether he had ever been approached by a club official offering him a bribe during his refereeing career, Simba responded with a big no. “Maybe they are afraid to approach me, because they know I am a man of strong principles,” he said. Apart from his promising career as a soccer referee, Simba works as security guard

for a local security company.

He singled out Mr Eric Munyai and Pollen Sibara as the two men who inspired him a great deal in his refereeing career.

Difficult matches ahead of All Stars It remains to be seen whether Nobela All Stars will have the strength to collect the six points at stake this long weekend.

Their first Vodacom Promotional League match will be played at the Malamulele Stadium today (Friday). They will entertain the resurrected FC Basel, in what promises to be a thriller. Basel are a force to be reckoned with after appointing the former Maindis FC coach, Mr Justice Mtileni, as head coach last month.

Robbed of Christmas money A group of women had been contributing money, thinking that they would share it among themselves at the end of the year.

To their shock, the money was robbed by criminals.

As part of their opening ceremony, the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Youth Against Crime (YAC) held a peaceful march through Louis Trichardt on Monday morning.

Youth groups will consist of different unemployed youths from the surrounding villages. They will be patrolling in and around Louis Trichardt, in collaboration with the Makhado police force to curb crime.

Hornet in dream final Mianzwi Green Hornet booked a place in the final of the Total Challenge KO Competition by beating Matsakali Sky Rangers 4-1 in their semifinal match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.

Rangers looked hopeless from the onset, and Green Hornet scored their first goal in the ninth minute.

Phumudzo Mamagwa hooked in the ball, following a mix-up within the Rangers’ danger area.

Rangers were soon reduced to 10 men, as their central defender, Jonas

Baloyi, was given his marching orders for obstructing Lutendo Matidze in the danger area.

The keeper of Sky Rangers, Master Shibambu, caused an upset a little later.

He miskicked the ball after a back pass by a teammate, Emile Chabalala, Instead of clearing the ball away, Shibambu hesitated for too long to clear, until he lost possession. Khaukanani Muswede won the ball and sent the ball straight into the empty net.

The only goal for Sky Rangers came in

the 37th minute.

Their front runner, Sydney Chauke, was brought down within the box and it was a clear penalty. Terrence Maluleke converted from the spot, to bring the halftime score to 2-1.

The last 20 minutes of the game saw Green Hornet enjoying ball possession, with Rangers chasing the action. It was not surprising when they increased the margin via Phumudzo Mamagwa in the 78th minute. Their fourth goal was scored

by Ishmael Khomola late in the game.
