Her political career started at the South African Youth Council (SAYC) and the South African Students Congress (SASCO). She served in the ANCYL Provincial Executive Committee of Limpopo as an executive member from 2012 to 2014. She has served as the deputy chairperson of the ANC Makhado sub-region since 2018 and is the convener of the ANCWL Young Woman Desk of Limpopo.

Once Limpopo Mirror became aware of the video, the Makhado Municipality’s spokesperson, Mr Louis Bobodi, was contacted for comment. He suggested at first that Cllr Mamorobela be contacted for comment. When the paper pointed out to him that she is a senior office bearer of the municipality and, as such, represents the council, Bobodi requested that the questions be sent to him. By Wednesday, when Bobodi still had not responded, he was contacted again. He then said that he did not check emails and requested that the questions be sent again via Whatsapp. This was done, upon which he only responded that the council would conduct an own investigation and respond at a later stage. He also confirmed that the councillor had not been suspended.

What became clear was that the matter had become a red herring for local ANC structures as the day progressed. When the ANC’s media liaison officer for the Vhembe region, Mr David Mukobi, was contacted, he referred the inquiry to the regional spokesperson for the ANC, Mr Tshifhiwa Dali. He was not available and could only be traced the next morning. He then referred Limpopo Mirror to the ANC regional secretary, Adv Anderson Mudunungu.

Adv Mudunungu responded by saying that they were busy investigating the matter and that they would take action, should that be necessary.

Several calls were made to try and contact Cllr Mamorobela on Tuesday. She did not answer, and questions were sent to her via Whatsapp. These were not answered either.

Late on Tuesday afternoon, the Democratic Alliance’s provincial leader, Mr Jacques Smalle, laid charges at the Makhado police station against Mamorobela for violating the lockdown regulations. A copy of the video was also handed to the SAPS. “We decided to lay the charges after Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams’s sanction clearly showed that the ANC will not discipline their own members in accordance with the seriousness of the offence committed. Furthermore, no one is above the law and the lockdown regulations are there to save lives and must be taken seriously,” said Smalle.

The DA also called upon the councillor to apologise publicly for her behaviour.

On Wednesday, the ANC’s regional spokesperson, Mr Tshifhiwa Dali, said that a press conference would be held on Thursday at 10:00 in Thohoyandou, during which the issue would be discussed.

Sad farewell to well-known Soutpansberg scientist In Memoriam The Soutpansberg was saddened the past week by the news of the passing away of the well-known Ian Gaigher on 8 April. He was 76 years old.

Ian Garth Gaigher was born to parents of English and Austrian descent on 26 October 1943. He was the middle brother of three and his childhood was spent on a farm outside of Zeerust in the Marico.

From a young age, Ian showed a keen interest in nature and after school studied biology at the University of Pretoria. After obtaining a master’s degree in nature conservation and a doctorate in biology with a

specialisation in limnology, he started his academic career as a lecturer at the Fort Hare University in the Eastern Cape. At this time, he also married a social worker, Margaretha (Retha) Julia Gouws. They had two sons four years apart, Emil and Stephan.

After the birth of their second son, Ian accepted the position of Head of Conservation at the Jonkershoek Nature Conservation Station outside of Stellenbosch. After several years in nature conservation, he accepted a research post at the Stellenbosch University and the family also built their first home on the then outskirts of Stellenbosch.

Ian accepted a teaching and research post at the University of the Free State after receiving his second doctorate in microbiology.

At this time, Retha also entered the academic field and eventually obtained a doctorate degree in medical sociology with a specialisation in primary health care.

In 1985, the family relocated to Israel where Ian was contracted to research the use of duckweed (Lemna) and Tilapia cultivation to produce protein food sources in arid landscapes. They returned in 1986, after which Ian once again took up a position as head of biology at the University of the Free State.

In 1988, however, both Ian and Retha felt a responsibility to contribute to the upliftment of rural communities and both accepted positions at the newly formed University of Venda (Univen) in Thohoyandou, in what was then the homeland of Venda. It would be at this institution and the Soutpansberg landscape that Ian would

make his biggest contributions to conservation and research and would also touch the lives of people from all over the world.

Appointed as head of biology, Ian eventually became the Dean of Science at Univen. During the turbulent political times of the late 80s and early 90s he was, however, looking for a more independent way to contribute without the shackles of politics at the university. This opportunity came in 1994 when a friend told him of a mountain property for sale in the unexplored western Soutpansberg.

They visited the farm called Lajuma and immediately fell irrevocably in love with the mountain. Retha would spend all of her remaining years and Ian most of his at Lajuma.

In 1996, the Lajuma Research Centre was created and until today it has functioned as a nursery for science, research and conservation in this unique part of the world. Literally hundreds of frontline scientists cut their teeth in this rugged environment and under the guiding hand of Ian. In 2012, Ian suffered the biggest tragedy of his life when his life partner, soulmate and confidant died of cancer. After a very long battle she succumbed to the disease on her beloved Lajuma.

Shattered by this event, Ian forged ahead and somehow, contrary to what everyone thought and as a testimony to his love of life, slowly recovered. During this time, he extended the reach of his conservation and research and actively did migration research in Tanzania and amphibian research in Canada. The next two years they lived in the Blue Mountain forests of Queensland in Australia before Dale also passed away. Once again, cancer had found him.

After the death of his second wife, Ian returned to Lajuma although his solitude this time would be shorter.

He met his last partner through mutual friends - Claire Bless, a French lady who grew up in Egypt.

She was with him for the remainder of his life. Together, they toured the world, spending a lot of time in the Dominican Republic, where Claire has family.

In the latter part of 2017, cancer would find Ian again and for the final time. He was diagnosed with untreatable prostate cancer. Even after the diagnosis he would, however, still live life to the fullest; never negative and

always ready for adventure, he lived life to the end.

Eventually, even Ian’s indomitable spirit could not escape the dark grasp of this scourge of a disease and he died with his family and Claire by his side. “My father had always been an impressive figure in my eyes. However, I never realised the extent of the respect for him until word of his death circulated and celebrations of his life would stream in from all over the world. He went much too early for the life that was still in him, but if we all strive to live but a shadow of the life he had, we will be able to call our existence worthwhile...” said Stephan.

Ian is survived by his two sons Emil and Stephan and their families, his only grandchild Kayla as well as his two brothers, George and Gerald, their wives and children.

A date for a memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced after the lockdown period.

Shelter for the town’s homeless Covid-19 relief A temporary shelter for homeless people was established at the Makhado Show Grounds last week. The more than a dozen people who still roamed the streets in the central business district were taken to the shelter.

Last Tuesday (7 April), offi-

cials from the Department of Social Development started to assess the cases. At that stage, 15 people, mostly boys and young men, were being accommodated at the shelter.

A call was made to residents and the business community to assist with basic necessities such as food and toiletries as well as mattresses and blankets.

The community immediate-

ly responded and supplied almost all that was needed. The municipality also arranged that food be prepared for the people staying there.

The shelter was visited by the mayor and a delegation from the municipality on Friday. The people staying there seemed to be quite content, for now at least, to have decent protection from the elements.

Self-taught engineer Rekkie Moyo of Musina washes his hands at a tap and basin attached to his home-made car as a way to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Rekkie spreads corona messages on his car Covid-19 news Early in February this year, we published a story about a talented self-taught engineer, Rekkie Moyo of Musina, who built his own car with discarded materials.

Moyo has taken things a step further by using his talent to add his voice to the war against the spread of the coronavirus. He has now repainted his home-made car and displays messages of awareness against the spread of the virus.

Some of the messages displayed on the car include Covid 19, Wash your hands with soap, SA on lockdown, Thank you SANDF for being on our street to protect our nation, Corona Virus kills and Respect SA’s president’s words.

As if that was not enough, Moyo also designed and fitted the car with a water tank, a basin to wash hands, a

toilet-paper holder and a dust bin to discard the toilet paper. Amazingly, the water tank and the tap are controlled by an electronic button that is fitted in the car.

He said the water in the tank was sanitised and he allowed everyone to wash hands at his car. “Government alone cannot win this war against the coronavirus. It is up to us as community members to play a role. Because my car is the centre of attraction wherever I go, I thought it would be important to paint it with awareness messages about the virus. When people come to see the car, they are forced to read the messages and, at the same time, I encourage them to wash their hands in the basin that is attached to the car. At the same time, I make sure that they observe social distancing. I just press a button and sanitised water comes out of the tap. After people wash their hands, I encourage them

to dry their hands with the attached toilet paper and throw the used pieces in the provided bin to keep the environment clean. This is very effective because people love my car.”

He encourages other community members to use whatever opportunity possible to fight the coronavirus.

“If you are an artist, use your art to spread the message. If we come together as a nation, we will definitely defeat this virus and our country will go back to normality again.”

Moyo first made a name for himself when he built a 2010 soccer world cup car, which was featured in the FIFA World Cup book. In 2012, he built a very comfortable, battery-powered wheelchair that he donated to a local disabled man.

His latest car, which is powered by a Ford V8 engine, goes by the name Kandamu, which is a combination of the letters of the names of his children.

Vhembe District Municipality’s spokesperson, Mr Matodzi Ralushai, said that the Vondo Dam was unable to supply water to all townships, which included Mvuso Park, because of the old pipeline in use. “The pipes are thinner because they were designed when there was still a lower volume of households,” he said. “As a result, we open the water rotationally to allow all townships to get it, which is sometimes an easy procedure. Hence, we have started delivering water tanks to the area, including Mvuso Park, who got water yesterday (Monday). There are contractors who were working on a project which will ensure that the area gets running water, but they have stopped as of now. The project was aimed to be completed in 2021.”

He added that the municipality did not have a system of selling water or tanks to residents. “This is corruption at its worst, which involved both the said official and the woman in question,” Ralushai said. “We urge people to report all cases of corruption to the higher authorities within the municipality.”

He said the municipality would continue to deliver water tanks to the designated areas that were most affected by the lack of water.

Patience Chauke is ready for the new challenges

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho The 24-year-old Patience Chauke is the epitome of hard work and this is evinced in the initial success she has achieved as a model. She has so far appeared more than 10 TV shows and dramas.

A technical support student at iCOLLEGE’s Thohoyandou Campus, Patience always wanted to become a model, even during her days at Shingwedzi Secondary School. In her Grade 9 year, the school made an announcement about the Miss Limpopo contest and encouraged pupils to enter.

“Entrants were required to write an essay about themselves.

A lot of us wrote those essays, but, sadly, we didn’t submit them.”

The interesting part about Patience’s initial story of the essay writing is that it had fuelled her passion to become a model.

“When I moved to Boksburg to pursue my studies, my friend Lungile Makondo introduced me to a young lady known as Tsakani Nwa’helezani,” she said. “Here was a full-fledged model who knew the pros and cons of the industry. She shared with me the experiences and knowledge of the art of modelling.”

From that point on, Patience was ready to face the world, and she started looking for a modelling agency, so that she could belong. “I got some agencies who noticed my talent and we worked together to create some

TV adverts, and I also appeared on some on-screen shows as an extra,” she said. “I have been on Generations the Legacy, Muvhango, SkeemSaam, Rhythm City, Highrollers, Greed and Desire, Tempypushas, Zabalaza, and Sestop’la.

“I am a commercial model and aspiring actress who would like to land a lead role in one of the heart-breaking dramas or movies,” she said. “I will surely make it to the top.”

She stated that she had mastered the art of dealing with rejection and had not let rejection steal her hope and zeal to keep trying. “If you want to make it in this industry, you have to brace yourself for rejection,” she said.

“Don’t take anything personally – those who generally succeed are able to handle continual rejections. There are a number of top models and actresses who had plenty of noes before they developed a full, thriving modelling career. Persistence and determination can go a long way in this industry.”

Patience is also a co-founder of Miss Angelic, together with Murendeni Muvhali. “I put God first in whatever I do, which is why I’m always ready to meet new challenges,” she said.

R1,2 billion set aside to assist local farmers

By Kaizer Nengovhela Local farmers are happy after the Minister of Agriculture recently announced compensation for farmers during the COVID-19 period.

Minister of Agriculture Thoko Didiza announced that her department had set aside R1,2 billion to assist farmers. According to the announcement, the money will be made available to South African farmers who have been actively farming for a minimum of 12 months.

Didiza said that the aim of the funding was to ensure food security.

The president of the African Farmers Association of South Africa (Afasa), Mr Tshianeo Mathidi, welcomed the funding that is targeting smallholding and communal farmers, especially after the recent drought and foot-and-mouth-disease outbreak in the area.

Mathidi said that Afasa and the Department of Agriculture were working hand in hand to make sure that the application forms reached all targeted farmers.

He said the challenges were the qualification criteria, which would exclude farmers without compliant

documents and those farms run by young males. He said that it did not cover infrastructure, electricity and labour but at least deserving farmers would receive the support. He concluded by saying all the farmers must go to the provincial and regional offices to obtain application forms as soon as possible.

Ginger Man SA on his way to stardom Soccer player now a sports presenter

Born Martin Ngwana, Ginger Man SA is on a relentless pursuit to crea­ te a name for himself in the music industry.

The 19-year-old house music DJ and producer from Tshikota fell in love with music at the age of 15. "I used to DJ at parties in Tshikota and at the age of 16, I joined the music industry with the help from Mr Retha Mudau. Mr Mudau taught me a lot about music production," he said.

Ginger Man SA released his first single, Sghubhu, in November 2018.

"From that time, people became more interested in my music. I then released my second single, Cela uhambe. It was a hit single and it reached 700 downloads in three days," he said. Vhutshilo Gabara is back with a bang

By Frank Mavhungu After disappearing from the music scene for about three years, a resident of Mulodi village in the Mutale area, Vhutshilo Gabara, has made a comeback with a second Tshivenda traditional music album.

Gabara’s music career dates to about two decades ago. He was a leader of the Mulodi branch of the United African Apostolic Church (UAAC) church choir between 2001 and 2015.

He recorded three albums with the choir before going solo. His debut album with the choir, A vha na lufuno, was released in 2001 and was followed by Vha do senga and U Ndilani Khotsi in 2006 and 2013 respectively.

His debut album as a soloist, Tshinganangana tshi a tambudza, was recorded at the Micho Recording Studios at Rabali village in the Nzhelele valley in 2017. The album consists of eight songs.

Some of the songs that made the album an instant hit with the fans include Musadzi wa munwe ha dzhiwi, Ndo tou shuma and Nwananga

iyani tshikoloni. According to Gabara, Tshinganangana tshi a tambudza performed well in the market, even though it fell victim to piracy along the way.

Gabara and his band, Rotakuwa, went back to the studio towards the end of last year. His second album, Mulomo vha u fare, was released recently. This album consists of 10 songs. Some of the songs that are promising to drive the fans crazy include Mbofholowo, Marikana, Vavha ndi vha nga, Ndo vhuya and the title song, Mulomo vha u fare.

Just like his previous projects, the new release is self-marketed and distributed. The 33-year-old singer was one of the nominees for the Phalaphala FM Tshivenda Music Awards (Tshima) last year.

Khalushi presents heritage show Meet our heritage show host, Azwifarwi Emmanuel Khalushi.

Khalushi is not new in the media industry; he worked for the former Radio Venda, now known as Phalaphala FM. “I started my career in the radio industry in June 1981 at Radio Venda in the SABC building in Auckland Park Johannesburg.

I became an artist of serial radio dramas and played in many radio dramas from 1981 until 2006.

In 1983, Khalushi became a host of the Phalaphala FM midday talk show Tshiko tsha ndivho na vhutali until 1985.

During his time at the SABC he also worked as a producer and he worked with presenters such as Tshivheaho Jackson Munonde and Hyson Musandiwa.

After leaving the SABC, he

joined community radio stations such as Univen FM, where he worked as a news reporter, news anchor, news editor and producer.

“On 18 February 2010, I joined Jacaranda FM as news reporter until 30 June 2012, when they closed down their studio in Bendor, Polokwane.”

Khalushi also worked for other community radio stations such as Giyani community Radio, Mala FM and Vhembe before joining Nzhelele FM. “On 31August 2019, I joined Nzhelele FM as presenter of

“Don't relax and wait for the government to give you a job. You could be crying that you are hungry while sitting on a bag of money. That bag of money is your hobby. This is the time to wake up and create job opportunities for ourselves”.

Mudau said he drew inspiration from his elder brother, Rest Mudau, who was a renowned photographer. “There were no digital cameras then. I used to play with his cameras when he was not around and he would realize that I had taken some photos when he went to develop

the film. This went on for some time, and he became tired of losing money by developing photos that were not sold. Out of desperation, he ended up giving me one of his old cameras. I started by taking pictures for fun, but many people hinted that I was a very good photographer and they voluntarily paid for their photos. I started getting invitations to capture weddings, graduation parties, funerals and social gatherings. And the rest is now history.”

He said people should never despair of their dreams because sometimes achieving one's objectives took a little longer. “I started photography in 2000 and things started shaping up last year. This means that, for the past 19 years, I was struggling to find myself in this industry. Let us soldier on and continue to hustle until the gate of prosperity opens. You just need to be focused and work hard to reach your dreams.”

Mudau encouraged informal and small-business owners to save the little they get from their trades. “With the few pennies I saved over

a long period, I have managed to establish a photoshoot studio here in Musina and employ two community members who assist me when we have more bookings. I have expanded the business into videography and music video production while, at the same time, working on the establishment of an online television broadcast service.”

Skhumba de DJ is master of his own sound

Skhumba De DJ told this paper that he learnt how to be a producer at a very young age. "I used to DJ at local parties and this made me learn more about music production. I knew back then that, in order to be the best in this industry, I had to sharpen my skills. I used to lock myself in the room just to better my skills of production and learn more about my weakness and

strength as a musician," he said.

"I then moved to Johannesburg to pursue my music career in 2009. It is where I released my debut single, Jazzy material. I then started going to events to mingle with other musicians and create a relationship with some of them," he said.

The reason for moving to Johannesburg, he said, was because he realised that lots of opportunities existed there. "I didn't want to miss any opportunity. I witnessed this by the time I used to visit my parents during school holidays and that made me

pack my bags and go there," he added.

He was one of the top four finalists of the Jack Daniel’s Music Scout that was held in Johannesburg in 2011.

He said young artists must do research on how other artists made it big in the industry. "This will help you to work on your brand, and make sure it is visible to your supporters and people know about it,” he added.

One of the darlings of the airwaves at Phalaphala FM, Terry “The Big Dude” Mudau, is back to present the Riadzedza show.

Mudau was presenting the morning drive show with Mpho “Jantiby” Nefale for two seasons, before joining the show. He is on air from 21:00 to 00:00 from Sunday to Thursday.

Mudau started his media career at Makhado FM in 2010 and went to Univen FM before joining Phalaphala FM. According to the listeners, he is already a force to be reckoned with. Mudau counts among a group of excellent presenters at the station and his work continues to impress listeners.

By Bernard Chiguvare The love of the game has seen a young Musina United footballer, Thendo Masindi, wake up every day and jog a few metres away from his Mtswale home to keep himself fit and ready for games to follow the lockdown period.

Masindi (18) started playing for Musina United this season. Although he is a Grade 10 learner at Renaissance Secondary School, he makes sure that he goes for training after school every Tuesday and Friday.

During this lockdown period, Masindi must do several exercises at home but says he has very little space to do the exercises. “I need to do exercises every day because after this lockdown period I promise to perform perfectly well, so that whatever team we meet, we are assured of a win,” says Masindi.

Masindi is the fourth-born of a family of seven.

Wisani is TTM’s dedicated first aider

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho While one should always seek out a proper medical professional when one suffers an injury, on-the-scene treatment can and should be performed by a person trained in first aid.

Born in Tshakhuma, Wisani Nemuremelane grew up loving the game of football, but little did she know she would make a career out of it. “When growing up, I wanted to be a physiotherapist,” Wisani said. Her interest in a first-aid career started when the GladAfrica Championship side, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila Football Club (TTM), was established in 2014 and she volunteered as a first aider.

When asked about her educational background, she said she started her primary education at Masuvhelele Primary and completed her high school studies at Mavhungu Andries Secondary, both located in Tshakhuma. Being a first aider requires strong interpersonal skills, dedi-

cation, and patience. Wisani obtained her Health and First Aid qualification from Vhutshilo Health & Training institution and was thereafter appointed as a professional first aider of TTM. “My role is to give immediate assistance to players during training sessions and games on minor injuries such as bruises, sprains and strains – none of which is particularly serious. Even though a team doctor is available on standby, severe injuries are rare, but it is important to know how to recognise these, so that you can refer an injured player to the doctor,” Wisani said.

As a 29-year old woman from a family of seven, Wisani says although she has been doing her job for more than five years, she still treats every match as if it is her first.

She adds that no substitute exists for proper first-aid training and a qualified first aider should always be present.

Her father, Mr Mmbengeni Samson Nemuremelane, and her mother, Johanah Chauke Malwela, never thought their

daughter would be a first aider one day.

“Football is considered a male-dominated sector. Therefore, as the only woman in the club, working with men has always been a challenge, but I am able to handle them professionally. I want to make women proud and put my village on the map,” the enthusiastic Wisani told Limpopo Mirror.

Wisie, as she is commonly known, said she would like to thank the president of TTM, Mr Masala Mulaudzi, for giving her an opportunity to do what she loves. The passionate first aider says her dream is to work for Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana. Her message to other women is that everything is possible if they believe in themselves.

She encourages young girls to go to school and learn as much as they can instead of always depending on men. Wisani said she would like to advise people to adhere to the Covid-19 lockdown rules and stay hygienic all the time.

TTM confident of being promoted

Where is Joel “Prophet” Masutha?

By Frank Mavhungu Mr Joel Masutha is one of the best football coaches Vhembe District has ever produced. Following his success stories over the past years, many soccer fanatics started to ask themselves questions about the mentor’s historical background.

This well-travelled man was born at Madzhatsha village in the Nzhelele Valley 47 years ago. The Prophet, as his fans call him, started playing soccer at a tender age. He played for a local team, Mamuhohi Home Boys, in the mid-eighties before moving to Tshikuwi Stone Breakers. That was where a scout from Rabali Blackpool FC saw him. He played for Lidoda Duvha for several years before hanging up his boots in 2006.

Masutha’s coaching career dates to 2008 when Black Leopards offered him a job to assist Mr Shepherd Murape.

When Murape’s relationship with Leopards came to an end, Masutha stayed behind and worked as an assistant to the Serbian national, Mr Vladislav Heric.

When Mr Kostadin Papic took over as the head coach for Black Leopards in 2009, Masutha continued work as his assistant. In 2014, Masutha, a teacher by profession, left the Thohoyandou outfit for Chippa United, where he worked for one season. When Black Leopards reappointed Papic as the team’s coach, Masutha came back to work as his assistant.

When Leopards fired Papic, Masutha took over as caretaker-coach. Masutha was the team’s head coach when Black Leopards gained promotion to the Absa Premiership Division at the end of the 2017/18 soccer season. He worked as the team’s head coach for 10 matches when Leopards were

campaigning in the elite division before his relationship with the club ended abruptly.

He went back to Chippa United, where he worked for a few months before parting ways with the Port Elizabeth side. His next stop was with the National First Division side, Maccabi FC, where he stayed until the end of last season. Masutha took over as the team’s head coach for the GladAfrica Championship League side, Real Kings, early this season. Real Kings were languishing at the bottom of the log when Masutha took the risk of coaching the team.

The Durban-based side were lying in the fifth spot on the log standings when Masutha resigned two months ago to join the millions of South Africa’s jobless people.

Speaking from his Maniini Block M home, Masutha revealed that he had rejected numerous offers from GladAfrica Championship and Absa Premiership clubs after leaving Real Kings. He further stated that his aim was to relax with his family until the end of the current season and that he would start a new coaching life at the beginning of the new season.

Will Tshiphongo retain the trophy?

By Frank Mavhungu While most of the annual tournaments and competitions had been called off as a result of the national lockdown, the situation is totally different with the Boy Nemakonde Tournament. According to the spokesperson for the organizing committee, Mr Eric Murudi, the tournament will be staged as usual.

According to him the only thing that will change is the date on which the event will be staged.

The tournament is usually staged over the last weekend of July and the first weekend of August. According to Mr Murudi, circumstances will not permit them to stage the tournament during the said period as the teams will be engaged in their league fixtures by then.

Murudi further indicated that they would be flexible and wait for the teams to complete their league programmes before commencing with their event.

Eight teams affiliated to the Thulamela Local Football Association (Thulfa) took part in the tournament in previous years.

Murudi reiterated that calling off the tournament would do the clubs more harm than good.

He said the prizes went a long way in assisting the clubs in the day-to-day administration of the teams.

The tournament is one of the biggest events in the region in terms of the sponsorship amount. Last year’s champions, Tshamutshedzi Watersand, or Tshiphongo as they are also called, received R15 000, soccer kit, six soccer balls and a floating trophy. Teams that took part in last year’s tournament were: Tshamutshedzi Watersand, Tshilonwe Young Bombers, Tshaulu Hungry Lions, Mulindavhathu Ocean Swallows, Munangwe United Brothers, New Discovery, Belavhathu FC and Buluni Happy Boys.

According to Murudi, the tournament will be launched

after the lifting of the lockdown in order to accord the participating teams enough time to prepare themselves for the prestigious event. In the same tournament the former coach of Black Leopards, Mr Joel Masutha, scouted a top striker, Norman Mbedzi, six years ago.

Murudi said that a local resident, Mr Boy Nemakonde, had sponsored the tournament to the tune of R100 000 last year.

Thidiela appealed to the team’s supporters to remain calm, saying Lidoda Duvha would manage to retain their Absa Premiership Division status come the end of the season.

According to him, his argument was based on his analysis of the remaining matches involving the teams that are in the relegation zone. He stated that Leopards would collect the maximum points in their three home fixtures and grab at least three points in the three matches they would play away from home. He reiterated the fact that the three teams that they will play at the Thohoyandou Stadium, Maritzburg United, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits, would go back with empty hands.

He also stated that their target was to collect at least three points in their away matches against Amazulu, Lamontville Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Thidiela, Baroka FC, who are also fighting for survival, will be lucky if they manage to win any of their remaining six matches. Four of their remaining matches will be played away.
