Police confirm that missing Zimbabwean woman was the one killed in gruesome muti murder

The Makhado Police have confirmed the identity of the woman who was killed in a muti murder and whose decomposed body was found last week in Makhado (Louis Trichardt). According to local police spokesperson Capt Maano Sadike, the woman was the 36-year-old Rumbidzai Manyere from Zimbabwe, who was staying in Thsikota at the time of her death. She was reported missing on 15 March. “The 38-year-old suspect [Freddy Azwitamisi Tshikhudo] who was found with a human arm and is currently facing a charge of murder is believed to be the one responsible for her murder,” said Sadike.
Tshikhudo appeared in the Louis Trichardt District Court on Monday and again on Wednesday for a bail application. His case was, however, postponed once more after the State prosecutor informed the court that a detailed post-mortem report was needed because it would seem that more body parts were missing from the victim than initially thought. Tshikhudo’s attorney agreed to this and his case was postponed to 29 May. During Tshikudo’s court appearance, friends and family of Manyere protested outside the court building. They demanded that Tshikhudo not be released on bail. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

NPA member charged with poaching
The war on poaching received a blow when an investigating officer of the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) was charged for killing a protected species in the Kruger National Park (KNP). The 28-year-old Rabelani Rodney Ndou was arrested on Sunday (15th) after he had allegedly killed a buffalo in the
Mobalingwe area of the national park. According to information, park rangers found the carcass of the buffalo. While the investigation was going on, Ndou and three other suspects approached the scene. When they noticed the rangers, they allegedly tried to run away. Ndou was arrested when he tripped and fell. The other three suspects managed to get away.
A hunting rifle was found in Ndou’s possession. He was charged in the Louis Trichardt District Court on Monday with performing a restricted activity involving alien species without a permit and illegal access to a national park. After a brief appearance, he was released on R3 000 bail. Ndou’s case was postponed to 4 June.

Businessman argues he is not fit for jail Businessman Yahya Shoeb Jiwa of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) believes that he doesn’t deserve a fine or even a jail sentence. That came to light in a report that a State social worker submitted to the Louis Trichardt Regional Court on Monday when Jiwa (45) stood in the dock yet again. He had already pleaded guilty in July last year to charges relating to restricted activities on a special protected species without the necessary permits. The social worker’s report was for mitigation purposes to lessen the magistrate’s sentence. Jiwa was arrested in February 2011 when he tried to buy two rhino horns from an undercover police agent. Since he pleaded guilty, Jiwa’s defence team has asked for numerous postponements to afford them the time to submit a pre-sentencing report to prove to the court that cor-
rectional supervision would be a more suitable sentence. This report was submitted as evidence to Regional Court Magistrate Pat Cloete on Monday. According to the social worker’s report, a suspended jail sentence would be just the thing for Jiwa because he is the only breadwinner for his family and a good citizen and community builder. According to the social worker, Jiwa confessed that he had acted out of stupidity and on the spur of the moment when he bought the rhino horns. Jiwa explained that he wanted to sell the horns for a big profit to help his seven-year-old son, who is suffering from a cerebral disease, as well as his wife. After the state prosecutor had taken the social worker’s report under cross-examination, the worker conceded that he had only taken Jiwa’s personal circumstances into consideration and not
the law. The State further argued that Jiwa had not pleaded guilty out of remorse but rather because he had been caught red-handed. Under cross-examination, the social worker also admitted that he had omitted the fact that Jiwa was the one who had first made contact with the police agent and that he hadn’t been illegally enticed into buying the rhino horns. “He [Jiwa] contacted the police agent two weeks before meeting the agent to pay for the horns,” said the state prosecutor. Regarding medical bills, the State reminded the court that Jiwa had offered to pay R100 000 for the rhino horns. After the report was handed in, Jiwa’s attorney asked the court for a postponement, so that he might call two additional witnesses. According to information supplied, Jiwa’s family doctor and the principal of a local school, where Jiwa coaches cricket, will be called to testify.

Op 6 April het Tshikhudo polisiebeamptes na die lyk van die vermoorde vrou geneem in die veld op die hoek van Songozwi- en Cellierstraat. Na sy eerste hofverskyning voorverlede Maan dag, saam die Patels, het Tshikhudo ‘n tweede verklaring afgelê waarin hy glo erken het dat die Patels niks te doen gehad het met die moord nie en dat hy eintlik by hul kafee was om hulle te beroof. Die egpaar, wat vier jaar gelede van Durban na Makhado (Louis Trichardt) verhuis het, bedryf hulle winkel hier die afgelope drie jaar. Hulle vrees nou dat hulle nie meer die kafee sal kan bedryf nie, omdat kliënte sal bang wees om die winkel te ondersteun. Alhoewel hulle nog nie besluit het of hulle ‘n saak van onregmatige arrestasie teen die polisie wil indien nie, het die egpaar aangedui dat hulle omgekrap is oor die polisie se optrede. “Die polisie is veronderstel om ons te beskerm,” het Ali en Hasina gesê. Hasina het vertel dat sy die dag van haar arrestasie alleen by die winkel was. Ali was by die moskee gewees toe Tshikhudo glo by die kafee
opgedaag het en haar probeer beroof het. Hy het glo die arm, wat hy by hom gedra het, uitgepluk en Hasina daarmee begin dreig toe sy nie dadelik die winkel se geld aan hom wou gee nie. “Hoe kon sy? Sy verstaan bitter min Engels en kon nie verstaan wat hy vir haar gesê het nie,” het Driver gesê. ‘n Sekuriteitswag, wat oorkant die kafee op diens was, het die oproer by die kafee gehoor en Hasina te hulp gesnel. Dié wag het glo vir Tshikhudo oorrompel en in die kafee toegesluit, nadat hy daarin kon slaag om Hasina veilig uit die winkel te kry. Paniekbevange kliënte in die kafee het intussen die polisie ontbied. ‘n Omstander het ook vir Ali geskakel en gesê hy moet vinnig kom. “Hy het sommer kaalvoet terug huis toe gehardloop,” het Driver vertel.

Sanlam encourages EFT registration The Sanlam Group has embarked on a campaign to encourage those individual shareholders who still receive their dividend payments by cheque to opt for their dividends to be paid directly into their bank accounts via the electronic funds transfer system (EFT). AfriForum lê kriminele klag teen Vhembe AfriForum het die afgelope week besluit om ‘n kriminele klag te lê teen die Vhembe Distriksmunisipaliteit (VDM) met betrekking tot die voortgesette rioolbesoedeling van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) se dorpsriviere en ondergrondse watertafels. AfriForum-takvoorsitter mnr. Wally Schultz, vergesel deur mnre. Lampie Schoeman en Phillip Olivier, het op 12 April by die plaaslike polisie stasie opgedaag met ‘n beëdigde verklaring in dié verband. Die polisie het hande in die hare gesit oor hoe om hierdie klag te hanteer. Die verklaring lui dat die VDM nie ag slaan op die besoedeling van die ondergrondse of bogrondse waterbronne nie en dat die besoedeling ‘n gesondheidsgevaar vir mens en dier inhou. AfriForum se hoof van omgewingsake, mnr. Julius Kleynhans, het in Februarie watermonsters kom neem. Die watermonster wat by die rioolstorting in die veld op die hoek van President- en Bredastrate geneem is, het getoon dat die E.coli-telling meer as ‘n miljoen eenhede per 100ml is . “Waar onbehandelde riool in ‘n natuurlike waterbron gestort word, mag die E.coli-telling nie hoër as 100 000 eenhede per 100ml wees nie. Indien die telling hoër is, is dit ‘n kriminele oortreding,” het Kleynhans gesê. Schultz het verklaar dat daar nie voete gesleep kan word met die herstel van die riool infrastruktuur wat by verskeie punte, insluitend woongebiede, industriële gebiede en skole uitloop nie. AfriForum se verklaring is op twee wette gebaseer. Volgens die Grondwet (Wet 108 van 1966, Artikel 24) het almal die reg tot ‘n omgewing wat nie hulle gesondheid bedreig nie en moet die omgewing bewaar word vir die toekomstige generasies deur redelike wetgewing. Dié wetgewing moet besoedeling voorkom. Ingevolge die Nasionale Waterwet (Wet 35 van 1998, Artikel 151 (1) en (2) mag geen persoon ‘n waterbron aktief of deur versuim besoedel of nadelig affekteer nie.
So ‘n persoon is skuldig aan ‘n misdryf met ‘n boete en/of tronkstraf van maksimum vyf jaar vir ‘n eerste oortreding. Die tronkstraf vermeerder na maksimum 10 jaar vir daaropvolgende oortredings. Die hof kan ook skadevergoeding toestaan, sou enige persoon skade ly weens die optrede van enige persoon wat in stryd met die bepalings van die waterwet optree ( Artikels 152 en 153). Die SAPD is versoek om voort te gaan met ondersoeke teen die VDM en hul munisipale bestuurder, mnr. Masala Makumule. “Ek versoek derhalwe die SAPD om in terme van die Grondwet en Nasionale Waterwet … op te tree en toe te sien dat die omgewing nie besoedel word nie,” lui die verklaring deur Schultz onderteken. Die plaaslike polisiewoordvoerder, kapt. Maano Sadiki, het Dinsdag bevestig dat die saak wel deur die polisie geregistreer is en dat ‘n ondersoek onderweg is. Hy kon egter nie sê wat presies die klag is wat deur die polisie geformuleer is nie.

Staatsveearts waarsku teen voorkoms van hondsdolheid Die Staatsveearts in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) het inwoners gewaarsku dat ‘n bevestigde geval van hondsdolheid in die dorp voorgekom het. Hondsdolheid is ‘n dodelike siekte en daar is geen behandeling bekend vir mense en diere wat die siekte opgedoen het nie. Mortaliteit by mens en dier is 100%. Volgens die Staatsveearts was daar verlede week ‘n voorval waar ‘n jong hond skielik baie aggressief begin raak het en ander honde begin aanval het. Twee inwoners is ook deur die hond gebyt en beide is tans onder behandeling. Die hond is na ‘n privaat veearts geneem waar

genadedood toegedien is. Die dier se brein is na die Onderstepoort Veeartsenykundige Instituut gestuur, wat die diagnose van hondsdolheid bevestig het. Die Staatveearts het bevestig dat dit die eerste keer in ‘n baie lang tyd is dat hondsdolheid in die dorp gediagnoseer word. Hulle het ‘n beroep gedoen op die publiek om alle vreemde gedrag van mak en wilde diere met die grootste agterdog te bejeën en dit so gou moontlik aan die naaste veearts te rapporteer. Diereliefhebbers is ook ernstig gemaan om toe te sien dat hulle troeteldie re teen hondsdolheid ingeënt is. Intussen beoog die Staatsveearts om binnekort te begin met ‘n

inentingsveldtog in die dorp en Tshikota en sal die datums en plekke van inenting so spoedig moontlik bekend maak. Hondsdolheid is ‘n breinsiekte wat deur ‘n virus veroorsaak word. Die virus kom voor in die speeksel van besmette diere en word deur ‘n dier se byt aan mense oorgedra. Dit kan ook oorgedra word deur besmette ingewande of breine wat in mense se oë, monde of oop wonde spat. By mense is die eerste tekens van die siekte erge kopseer, angs, koors, naarheid en ‘n vrees vir water, en vat tussen twee tot 10 weke om by mense en diere te manifesteer. In die laaste stadiums kom verlamming voor, waarna die pasiënt in ‘n koma gaan en sterf.

Dit is met leedwese dat die gemeenskap van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) in minder as ‘n week vier lede verloor het, drie aan hartaanvalle. Die jongste van die vier was maar 34 jaar oud. Baie in die gemeenskap is geraak deur die dood van hierdie geliefde familielede of vriende. Bennie die Bruin (34), seun van die bekende Steven en Joey de Bruin van Bandelierkop, het omstreeks 03:00 Sondagoggend (14de) onverwags aan ‘n hartaanval beswyk. Hy laat sy geskokte en bedroefde eggenote, Petro, en twee jong kinders, Ronel (5) en Lizelle (3), agter. Bennie het op die plaas Brakspruit geboer en ook kontrakteurswerk gedoen. “Bennie was altyd vol grappe, baie sosiaal en erg oor sy pelle. Hy het ook baie van sport gehou, om daarna te kyk en om deel te neem, veral krieket en rugby,” onthou Petro. Wyle Bennie word op Vrydag, 19 April, om 15:00 vanuit die Hervormde Kerk Louis Trichardtgemeente begrawe. Vanessa Pretorius (39) is Sondagoggend in die Prognos mediese sentrum aan ‘n hartaanval oorlede. Baie sal haar onthou as die vriendelike kroegdame by die Rugby Lapa. Vanessa se familie onthou haar as ‘n “baie opgewekte terggees, ‘n regte mense-mens wat met mense kan kommunikeer en daarvan hou om vriende te maak.” Sy laat haar vier kinders, Rudi (21), Ilze (18), Johan (17) en Justin (6), asook twee susters en een broer agter. Wyle Vanessa se kleindogter se geboorte is geskeduleer vir 17 April, drie dae na haar onverwagte afsterwe. Die begrafnisreëlings is getref vir Maandag, 22 April, om 11:00 vanuit die Ou Apostoliese Kerk in Kroghstraat. Op Donderdag, 11 April, het die 47-jarige Jan van Graan ook aan sy hart beswyk. Jan is al die afgelope 23 jaar woonagtig in die omgewing. Hy het die afgelope 13 jaar by Multinet as projekbestuur der gewerk en het nog die vorige naweek herstelwerk by Laerskool Louis Trichardt gedoen. Voor Multinet was hy tien jaar as motorwerktuigkundige aan die plaaslike lugmagbasis verbonde. Jan was ook twee maal na Antarktika waar hy gehelp het
met die bou van weerstasies. “Niks was ooit te veel moeite vir Jan nie,” sê sy suster, Heloise van Tonder. Die bedroefde familie stem saam dat hulle Jan sal onthou as iemand wat regtig uit sy pad sou gaan om ander te help, soms ten koste van homself. Jan laat sy eggenote, Carin, en twee kinders, Nicolene (11) en Dewald (9), agter. Carin is werksaam by P&L Hardeware, ook die werkgewer van Bennie se weduwee, Petro. Wyle Jan se roudiens is Dinsdag om 11:00 vanuit die NG Kerk Louis Trichardt-gemeente gehou. Ds. Gert Kruger (64), voorheen sendeling van die Gereformeerde Kerk Louis Trichardt, is op 11 April in sy huis by Siloamhospitaal oorlede, waar sy vrou Maartjie hoof van die laboratorium is. Ds. Gert was ‘n sendeling in die voormalige Venda vanaf 1980 tot 1989, waarna hy vir ongeveer nege jaar vir Rivoni, Old Mutual en Sanlam gewerk het. “Gert het in 1980 as energieke jong man hier begin en hom ten doel gestel om die Vendataal sy eie te maak. Hy het dikwels as kampvegter vir die Vendas opgetree en was tot sy dood ‘n baie geliefde persoon onder die Vendamense. Gert het jarelank aan ‘n aftakelende siekte gely totdat die ernstige motor-neuronsiekte ‘n einde aan sy lyding gebring het,” sê me. Juliana Kruger, gesinsvriend en eggenote van mede-sendeling, ds. Piet Kruger. Tot ‘n paar weke gelede was Gert se plek nooit leeg in die kerk nie en het hy al drie eredienste (insluitende die Vendadiens) bygewoon. Die gemeente sal hom onthou vir die Psalms wat hy uit sy kop en met duidelike genieting tot eer van God gesing het. Maartjie sal hom mis en sy en die familie bid dat sy werk in God se koninkryk ewige vrugte sal dra. Uit Gert en Maartje se huwelik is twee kinders gebore, Rendani (21) en Mashudu (19), wat albei in Pretoria studeer. Gert laat ook sy kinders Ian (37), Marijke (35) en Anika (32) agter. The 27-year-old Ugandan man who has been charged with murder after assisting a woman in the termination of her fivemonth pregnancy appeared in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court again on Monday. Juko Moses was arrested in July 2011 after a 29-year-old woman, who had terminated her pregnancy, put the police on his trail. At that stage he was operating an illegal abortion clinic in
one of the back alleys of Makhado (Louis Trichardt). At first he was charged with the illegal termination of a pregnancy, but in January this year the charge was changed to murder. This after the State indicated that they had enough evidence to proceed with a murder charge. The woman, who cannot be identified without her informed consent, responded to one of the many illegal abortion advertise-

Filming an experience of a lifetime for extras History truly came alive as an international team filmed a documentary on the legendary Breaker Morant. Re-enactments of many of the scenes took place in the Soutpansberg, the location of the murders by Morant and the Bushveldt Carbineers for which two of them were eventually executed. The budget for the documentary Morant, the retrial is one million Australian dollars. It is being filmed on three continents - Australia, South Africa and the UK - and will be eventually aired on the History channel. Saturday (13 April) and Sunday’s filming was done on the farm Nonyana (Driekoppies) of the Haasbroeks. Hardus Haasbroek cleared the bush and moved the fences for the place where the tent camp was set up. “This is unbelievable. It’s wonderful to learn so much about history and to have all the people on our farm,” said Ariëte Haasbroek. The general feeling among the local extras and onlookers, as well as descendants of the victims, was that the filming of the re-enactments so far has been “the experience of a lifetime”. The scenes could, however, be described as quite violent and morose since all those who played Boers ended up dead. “The premeditated murder of unarmed, sick and captured prisoners, witnesses, civilians and children” by the BVC towards the end of the Anglo-Boer war (1899 –1902) has been exposed in a book by local historian Charles Leach after some nine years of intensive research. Co-writer and co-director Nic Bleszynski from Australia, on the other hand, feels that it is grossly unfair that Morant and Handcock had been singled out and made scapegoats by the British Empire. The BVC was largely an Australian regiment that fought for the British. Leach was invited to be involved in the preparations and was consulted on site during the filming by Breaker Productions of Australia, who co-produced with Sabido productions of South Africa. Though there are different views on the BVC episodes and Morant, no-one could disagree on what a handsome and winsome person lead actor Benedict Wall, a Kiwi based in Australia, is. Boers were executed in the re-enactment, some of the smaller children were worried about their daddies, but were happy to see them get up again. It was quite ironic that the children who witnessed the filming helped to make holes in the Van Staden grave, so that the inside of the grave looked more rugged. When the scene of the re-enactment of the murder of Van Staden and his two sons was filmed on Sunday (14th) the sky grew dark and thunder rumbled. The youngest son was very sick with fever and the father wanted a permit to get him to hospital. They were murdered by Morant and the BVC after they had to dig their own grave. Earlier that day, co-writer Nic Bleszynski remarked: “We can’t film all the murders. There are far too many.” That was during the filming of the murder of trooper Van Buuren, who had joined the British. Van Buuren was played by Eben Saayman (23) who acted like he had done it all his life. Word Riders bring joy to hundreds of children

Hundreds of Grade 7 pupils from rural schools in Limpopo stood in absolute awe this week as they were handed their own Bibles as part of the Bible Society of South Africa’s third annual Word Riders motorcycle tour. One of these schools was Muthuhadini Combined School in Elim. There was much excitement at the school on Monday morning as the group of motorcyclists roared into the school premises. With them, the Word Riders brought a message of hope and, upon being handed their own Bible, many Grade 7 pupils stood in absolute disbelief as they would not be able to afford a Bible under normal circumstances. The need for Bibles became even more evident when some of the teachers at the school also asked if they could be given a Bible. The week-long Word Riders tour began on Saturday (13th) when 31 motorcyclists left Bible House in Kempton Park, with stopovers at towns and villages not only in Limpopo but also in Mpumalanga. In total, 1 700km will be travelled with 2 000 Bibles, as well as booklets explaining
how the Bible should be read, being distributed to the Grade 7 pupils at 31 schools. On Monday, six rural schools were visited. According to the Bible Society’s communications officer, Mr Leon Steenkamp, who accompanied the Word Riders during the visit to Muthuhadini, the donation of the Bibles was made possible by the Bible Society’s Bibles for Grade 7 Learners Project, as well as funds that were raised by the bikers themselves. Steenkamp invited people who would like to learn more about this tour or who would like to become involved with the Bibles for Grade 7 Learners Project to contact the Bible Society. Further research done by the newspaper has revealed that the actual number might be closer to 5 850 cases. The difference is made up by those cases that are never reported, which, says the DA, can largely be attributed to police inefficiency. This has spurred the DA to take action in the form of the Safety Bill. According to Van der Walt, the aim of the Bill is to hold the provincial police accountable. Among other things, the proposed Bill could see the establishment of Limpopo’s very own independent provincial police ombudsman to investigate complaints about police inefficiency. Furthermore, the Bill could give local communities the power to determine their own policing and security needs, where these are currently the responsibility of the national police commissioner. The Bill further suggests that the MEC for Safety and Security provide support, training and resources to neighbourhood watches. The Bill, if passed, will also make it mandatory for the provincial police commissioner to submit regular reports to the MEC about reported cases, investigations, convictions, lost firearms, deaths caused by police activity or any other matter that might relate to the efficiency of the police’s relationship with the community. With the Soutpansberg Mountains being home to an amazing array of species, a group of students is at present researching the enormous threats that primates, such as the samango monkey, and predators, such as the leopard, are facing from humans. These animals are being studied by a team of scientists from the Durham University’s Primate and Predator Project, which is based at the Lajuma Research Centre in the western Soutpansberg Mountains. “We hope to gain a better understanding of the ways in which predators and prey interact with one another, using leopards and primates in the Soutpansberg as a model system. We are also interested in determining what kind of pressure these populations are under, for example assessing the level of human-wildlife conflict, and looking for ways to minimise these problems. Finally, we are also determining just how important this area is in terms of mammalian biodiversity,” says Dr Sam Williams, research coordinator of the project. Williams explains that the Soutpansberg is one of the few places where all five species of nonhuman primates that occur in South Africa can be found living together. Researchers from the project follow samango monkeys through the forest to determine what governs their movement patterns. They want to learn how monkeys balance finding food with avoiding to become a meal themselves. The researchers also follow baboons to find out how the social behaviour of young animals develops as they grow up as this may shed some light on the evolution of social behaviour in humans. Some of the baboons have been fitted with collars that record their location and communicate with collars on leopards, in order to record interaction between the species. In mid-2012, the project collared three adult leopards that were resident around Lajuma. The collars record the animals’ locations, using the global positioning system, which allows the scientists to map out their home ranges and see what happens when the leopards leave the safety of the mountains and venture onto agricultural land. By December 2012, two of the three leopards had been

killed by humans – one was shot for hunting cattle and the other was snared, probably accidently, in traps that may have been set for catching bush pigs. “This high level of mortality illustrates the extreme challenges facing both leopards and farmers. The Primate and Predator Project is dedicated to finding solutions to the conflict which will benefit both parties,” says Williams. The researchers are now fitting additional collars to leopards to get a better idea of the scale of this problem. Camera trapping is also used to monitor predator populations and prey availability across a large area. This research is combined with scat analysis to understand predator diets and to determine the extent that domesticated animals feature in leopard and brown hyena diets. of honey bee that originated in the Cape and is a naturally enemy of the Mallifera bee which is found in the Soutpansberg. “The Capensis is still the biggest threat to our bees,” says James. “The Soutpansberg is one of the few, if not the only area in the country which is still free of this problem and it has only been through a concerted effort by local beekeepers.” In the meantime, residents can be on the lookout for James’s beehive project that he will soon be launching. The recent rainfall over the region was reason enough for many a farmer to celebrate. The Soutpansberg’s honey bees, however, cannot say the same. Recently it would seem that the Soutpansberg has seen a collapse in the honey bee population. Bees are the insects that play a critical role in terms of agriculture. According to Mr Chris James, a local beekeeper and ecologist, commercial beekeepers in the area have reported a 50% to 60% loss of bees. This loss strongly reminds of the colony collapse syndrome (CCS) that occurred in the United States of America. The reason for the CCS, says James, is still unknown. The problem presents itself as empty hives, with no clear evidence of why the bees have left or died. Contributing factors, in James’s opinion, that have affected the local bee population include the recent floods in the province. The Limpopo River, explained James, is an important natural habitat for bees throughout the year. The sudden rise in flood waters had a damaging effect on all the feral swarms below the flood-line. Populations that had already starved during the previous protracted drought resulted in weakened swarms. This was followed by the prolonged wet conditions, which made bee populations more prone to be preyed on by their natural enemies. Honey badgers have also been responsible for considerable losses in the region. With their destruction of bee hives, whether manmade or occurring in the wild, badgers have shown why they keep on surviving as a species in overcoming any obstacles in their quest for food. Another theory for the diminishing of bee populations here in the Soutpansberg region could be that we have a Capensis bee infestation. The Capensis bee is a sub-species

Niemand kan ons nou meer miskyk nie en ons is regtig baie dankbaar daarvoor. Die skenkers wil graag anoniem bly. Die winter is besig om vinnig nader te sluip en ons vra asseblief die volgende: komberse, winters klere, beddegoed, enige bruikbare huishoudelike items, boeke, speelgoed, kos, wol, ensovoorts. Enige ietsie van die bogenoemde kan ‘n
reuse verskil maak in iemand anders se lewe. Baie, baie dankie aan almal wat reeds vir ons goedere, kos of kon tant geskenk het. Ons waardeer u elkeen opreg. it wil my lyk iemand by die munisipaliteit se meterleseragentskap is tegnies gevaarlik onkundig of het ‘n geloof dat beweerde wanbetalings ‘n halsmisdaad is. Die krag by my woning is vandeesweek op ‘n roekeloos onverantwoordelike wyse afgesny, in weerwil van my pogings om ook die regsverteenwoordiger en die meterleseragentskap teen die onregmatigheid daarvan te waarsku. My rekening was betyds ten volle vereffen, met beskikbare skriftelike bewyse. Die munisipaliteit se agent het egter in my afwesigheid teen my uitdruklike waarskuwing in, voortgegaan en die buitenste hoofskakel se omhulsel verwyder, die hoof toevoerkabels uitgeruk, en die lewendige kaal kabels net so oop daar gelaat binne bereik van die kinders. As enigiemand, veral die
kinders wat nie van die drama geweet het nie, by die donker huis sou aankom en dink iemand het by die hoofskakel gepeuter, sou ‘n poging om in die donker die hoofskakel aan te skakel vir hulle dodelike gevolge kon hê: Doodstraf weens vermeende wanbetaling! Gelukkig kon Phillip van die Belastingbetalersvereniging help om die onnodige, onverskillige onkunde en dodelike konkelwerk voor donker uit die weg te laat ruim en veilige kragtoevoer te laat herstel. Baie dankie vir die Belastingbetalersvereniging se kundige en altyd vriendelike hulpvaardigheid. There was a group of women at a seminar on how to live in a loving relationship with your husband. The women were asked, “How many of you love your husbands?” All the women raised their hands. Then they were asked, “When was the last time you told your husband you loved him?” Some women answered today, some yesterday, some didn’t remember. ns God is baie besorg oor die wyse waarop Sy kinders lewe. Alle kinders van God word geroep om heilig te lewe. (1 Petrus 1:15-16). Ook lees ons in die Skrif dat dit onmoontlik is om God te sien sonder om heilig te lewe. Hebreërs 12:14 sê: “Beywer julle vir vrede met alle mense asook vir ‘n heilige lewe, waarsonder niemand die Here sal sien nie.” Die heiligheid wat ons nodig het is dit wat ons van Jesus Christus ontvang deur die inwoning van Sy Hei lige Gees. Om met die geregtigheid van Christus geklee te wees beteken ons sal in gehoor saamheid aan God se gebooie lewe, dag vir dag. Die rede om God se gebooie te gehoorsaam word deur Jesus self gegee: “As julle my liefhet, bewaar My gebooie.” (Joh. 14:15). God se kinders bewaar Sy gebooie want hulle het Jesus lief. Wanneer ‘n kind van God aanhoudend dieselfde sonde doen, mag God besluit om hom te tug en so die sonde wat hy weer en weer doen tot ‘n einde te bring in sy lewe. Soms maak ‘n teregwysing van die Here seer, maar dit is God se wil dat ons heilig lewe. God se kinders word getug om beter Christene te wees. God se tugtiging is ‘n teken van Sy liefde. (vers 6). Die tugtiging van God bereik altyd sy doel. Die Here wil hê ons moet aan die beeld van Christus gelyk word. (2 Kor. 3:18). - 079 5168303

Voor, van links na regs, is Douwe Steyn (1ste 80m, 2de 60m) en Johané van Eeden. In die middel is Dihan Pretorius (1ste 80m, 2de aflos, 3de 100m), Jani Badenhorst (1ste 1 200m en aflos), Melissa Stemmet (2de gewigstoot en diskusgooi, 3de spiesgooi), Annika Schwerdtfeger (2de 200m en 100m, 3de verspring) en Yani Steyn (1ste aflos, 3de 100m en 90m hekkies). Agter is Charel Bloem (1ste diskusgooi en nuwe rekordhouer), Henlo Olivier (2de 1 500m en 3de 3 000m), Janco Marais (1ste aflos en 3de 800m) en Hennie Badenhorst (2de 300m en 3de 1 500m).
CP van Wyk, een van die Soutpansberg se belowende fietsryers, het die afgelope naweek weer vir hom ‘n plek op die podium losgery tydens die derde wedren in die nasionale MTN/ Nissan-bergfietsreeks. Die wedren is Saterdag in Tulbagh beslis, met CP wat algeheel tweede in beide die wedren en in sy kategorie eindig.
Jan-Karel Limbach, ‘n talentvolle swemmer van Hoërskool Eric Louw in Musina, het op 5 April die Limpopo-swemspan verteenwoordig by die Vlak 1-kampioenskappe in Hillcrest, Pretoria. Tot en met die kampioenskap was Jan-Karel 29ste in Suid-Afrika onder die top tien skole vir Vlak 1. Altesaam 178 swemmers het aan 18 uitdunrondtes in die 50m rugslag tydens die kampioenskap deelgeneem. Jan-Karel se strawwe oefenprogram lewer dividende en hy kwalifiseer vir ‘n plek in die finaal, waar hy algeheel sewende eindig. Foto verskaf.

Huge interest in Cycle Centre Challenge (Contd from P20) First place in the 40km women’s race was snatched up by Anel Swart in 01:15:20, with Karen Armstrong cycling home in second place in a time of 01:20:53. René finished third in 01:24:20 and was also the first women’s veteran. Hester Beukes finished as the first master in 01:38:39. As for Saturday’s mountain bike race, cyclists had the opportunity to participate in the first ever official Limpopo Colours Qualifying Mountain Bike Cross-Country Olympic (MTB XCO) race. Competitors, depending on their age category, had to complete race laps between 4km to 6km long. The overall fastest lap time in the men’s category was recorded by well-known local cyclist CP van Wyk in 17:55:68. The fastest woman was Nicolle van
der Greft in 17:11:58. In the Nippers category (10 years and younger), Owen Venter was the first boy in 19:18 and Nikaela Roets the first girl in 44:48. The first boy in the Sprogs category (U/13) was Heinrich Viljoen 39:14. There were no girl entries. First in the sub-junior category (U/14) was Bryce Reed in 40:59 and Calista Talbert in 46:21. In the Youth category, (U/15) top honours went to Edwin Simpson in 01:51:32 and Sherilise Pieterse in 01:30:50. Bernard Volschenk was the first U/16 boy in a time of 02:35:43. In the junior category (U/18), Christiaan Roos finished first in a time of 01:47:00. Albertus Botha was the first U/23 male in a time of 02:24:44. In the Elite category, Rick Coetzee from the P&L Hardware Cycling Club finished first in a time of
02:19:17, with Nicolle van der Greft the first woman home in the Elite category in a time of 01:15:07. The first sub-vets were Bas Rennings in 01:52:35 and Marnell Pessegueiro in 01:23:54. The first veterans to cross the finishing line were husbandand-wife team of Casper Venter in 01:55:13 and Sarah in 01:19:20. The first master to finish was Johan van Dijkhorst in 01:56:39. After the race, the P&L Hardware club expressed their gratitude towards the local traffic department who unselfishly provided support during the race on Saturday. Thank go to Messrs. Local Spatial Development Framework The Makhado Local municipality is in the process of compiling a Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF). The vision of the LSDF is to guide the future spatial form and structure of Louis Trichardt town. Cycling
Huge interest in Cycle Centre Challenge The Cycle Centre Challenge on Saturday, 13 April, once again attracted many entries from the region. This event is annually hosted by the P&L Hardware Cycling Club in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), in conjunction with Cycle Centre, Coca-Cola and Talisman as sponsors. The race, which also saw its first mountain bike category this year, is hosted annually to prepare cyclists for the upcoming Kremetart Cycling race. On Saturday, cyclists competed in the 70km and 40km road race. The overall winner of the 70km race was Bas Rennings, who set the pace and completed
the race in a time of 01:46:30. For the second and third place it was a neck-andneck race. Bertie van Zyl completed the race just four seconds before his nearest rival, Rick Coetzee, in a time of 01:40:46. Coetzee finished in a time of 01:40:50. The women’s category of the 70km race was clinched by local cyclist Amanda Kruger in a time of 02:13:17. Second place went to Dalene Pohl in 02:14:14, with Marie van Onselen taking third place in 02:22:42. The men’s 40km race was mainly dominated by local riders, with local cyclists Marco Roets taking top honours in a time
of 01:03:48. Equally well-known local cyclist Christiaan Roos finished second in 01:04:21, with Hendrik Naude third home in a time of 01:04:47. Roets’s victory also made him the winner in the category for junior males, with Roos who took second place in the same category. Vernon Harms from the Tzaneen Cycling Club won the category for men U/16 in a time of 01:15:15. Christo Odendaal was the first male veteran home in 01:04:56, the first master was Thys Beukes in 01:23:46 and Malcom Tucker the first grandmaster in 01:18:19. (Contd on P19)
