SAMWU-staking stink! Deur Linda van der Westhuizen Na Maandag se aanvanklik rustige begin van die SAMWU-staking op Louis Trichardt, het die stakers Dinsdag hande uitgeruk en selfs sover gegaan om menslike ontslasting in die Raadsgebou te gooi. Een besoeker aan die middedorp het dit as ‘n varkhok beskryf. Nog meer walglik was die stank van ontlasting wat deur stakers in die munisipale gebou rondgegooi is. “Ek het by die munisipale gebou ingestap en die hele plek het gestink. Die hele voorste vloer was met saagsels bedek wat oor rou riool gestrooi is. Almal loop met maskertjies voor hulle gesigte. Dit vrot!” het me. Leonie Oberholzer opgemerk. Voor haar besoek aan die munisipale gebou, het Oberholzer stilgestaan in Kroghstraat en gekyk waar die belastingbetalersvereniging be-

gin het met die skoonmaak van Kroghstraat. “Dit is onnodig om rommel te strooi. Jy kan toyi-toyi, maar hoekom al die gemors uitgooi. Die munisipale werkers het tog ‘n pensioenfonds en medies, meer voordele as ons gewone mense,” het Oberholzer gesê. Sy het na die flukse skoonmakers wat deur die Soutpansberg Belastingbetalersvereniging (SBBV) gebring is, verwys en gesê dat sulke mense wat bereid is om hard te werk, eerder permanente poste moet kry. As lid van die dagbestuur van die SBBV het me. Aretha Smit inisiatief geneem en begin met ‘n skoonmaakpoging in Kroghstraat tussen Erasmus en Songozwi begin. Die SBBV het vier werkers in diens geneem vir hierdie poging. “Dit lyk vuil. Die munisipaliteit moet nie so maak nie,” het een van die skoonmakers, mnr. Steven Machaba, gesê. Mnr. Walter Gilfillan, SBBV dagbestuurlid,

het gesê dat sy tannie, me. André Gilfillan, van Bridge Auto, 200 swart sakke geborg het vir hierdie poging. “Dit is ‘n goeie manier om te wys dat die SBBV ‘n plan kan maak om ons dorp skoon te hou. Ons doen baie agter die skerms en tree hiermee ‘n bietjie op die voorgrond,” het mnr. Chrisjan van den Berg, voorsitter van die SBBV gesê. Van den Berg het ook gesê dat die munisipaliteit as sulks nie verantwoordelik gehou kan word vir die rommelstrooiery nie, omdat dit die werkersunies is wat die mense aanhits. “Die regering moet egter nie te veel ingee vir hierdie tipe eise nie. Elke jaar as dit tyd is vir loonverhogings dan steek dit kop uit,” het Van den Berg gesê. Nadat die skoonmakers ongeveer ‘n uur en ‘n half gewerk het en heelwat swartsakke vol rommel versamel is, het ‘n intimidasie-aksie teen die skoonmakers die veldtog in die wiele gery.

Controversy sure to follow as Green Belt is again earmarked for development

Saak teen boer word weereens uitgestel Die boer van die Soutpansberg-omgewing wat saam met ‘n mede-beskuldige daarvan aangekla word dat hulle ‘n prokureur aangerand het, se saak sal eers weer in Oktober aangehoor word. Carl Arthur Henning (45) en Thomas Mpho Mudau (34) het verlede Donderdag weer in die landdroshof in Louis Trichardt verskyn op ‘n klagte van aanran ding en opstelike saakbeskadiging. Hulle word daarvan beskuldig dat hulle op 5 Februarie

2009 vir mnr. Eddie Shirhami Shirinda, ‘n prokureur, op die plaas Moddervlei aangerand het. Shirinda het aangevoer dat Henning geweier het dat sy kliënt, mnr. Mack Nkuna, se tannie op die plaas begrawe word en dat daar toe ‘n onderonsie tussen die partye uitgebreek het. Volgens Shirinda is sy selfoon beskadig en hy is erg aangerand tydens die onderonsie. Tydens Henning en Mudau se vorige hofverskyning op 22 Julie het landdros N. A. Mudau

beslis dat Shirinda op die oog af ‘n saak van aanranding het, waarna Henning na die getuiebank geroep is. Henning het tydens hierdie verskyning aangevoer dat Nkuna toegang tot die plaas geweier is, nadat hy [Nkuna] doodsdreigemente teenoor hom, sy pa en Thomas gemaak het. Tydens Maandag se versky ning is Henning en Thomas se saak uitgestel tot 6 Oktober, nadat die verdediging nie beskikbaar was vir ‘n hofverskyning nie.

Louis Trichardt’s “Green Belt” area has once again been earmarked for development. The past week, Seaton Thomson & Associates, a tourism development, conservation and environmental planning company from Gauteng, started distributing notices in town, urging residents to register as interested and affected parties with regard to the proposed development of a shopping centre on this piece of controversial land. The process of registering as an affected party forms part of the developer’s application for environmental authorisation to develop a retail centre, hotel and offices on Erf 5147, Extension 9. The property in question is situated just west of the N1 and north of Stubbs Street, an area known as the town’s Green Belt. According to Seaton Thomson & Associates’ notice, the development will comprise a shopping centre of approximately 35 000m², some 10 000m² of office space and a 60-room, 120-bed hotel. The development also includes the proposed construction of Musina Road, linking the N1 and River Street. Nowhere on the notice is it indicated who the developers are and it merely states that the “footprint of the various building envelopes will be more accurately verified in the Basic Assessment Report.”

Over the past decade or so, numerous attempts have been made to have this piece of controversial land developed. From an environmental point of view, the Green Belt area is seen as a sensitive watercatchment area, which is home to indigenous fauna and flora, including the clawless otter, bushbuck, red duiker, banded mongoose, rare bird species and more than 300 indigenous tree species. On the flipside of the coin, there are those who see the area as nothing more than a haven for criminals, who are not only hiding but literally living in the bushes. As far back as 1998, the municipality had to abandon its plans to develop the area, due to severe criticism from the public. In 2002, the Green Belt area was once again in the news when it was proposed that the area be rezoned into business stands. Residents were shocked in 2005 to hear that the Makhado Municipality had awarded a R15,3 million tender to Madanga-I-Tole Entertainment (Pty) Ltd for the purchase of a 53,5-hectare piece of the Green Belt area, also for the proposed development of a hotel, as well as an entertainment centre, eco-park and even a cable car. The then directors of the company were Messrs Aaron Funyu-

funu, Jerry Ndou, Shanti Dosa and Vino Ramjee. Madanga-TTole’s name later changed to Daybreak Properties 7. Another public outcry followed, and in July 2007, the municipality resolved to call off the proposed development for the time being to seek legal advice. Both Seaton Thomson & Associates and the Makhado Municipality were asked for comment with regard to the proposed development and who the developers are. In response, Mr Alter Dhooge of Seaton Thomson & Associates confirmed that the developer is still Daybreak Properties 7. “The Environmental Impact Assessment process has been initiated and is in the publicregistration phase. All other information will be provided in the environmental reports,” Dhooge stated. Municipal spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi also responded by merely stating that the municipality chooses to refrain from commenting on the issue at this stage. Familie ongelukkig nadat moordverdagtes kwytgeskeld word Die Botha-familie op Louis Trichardt dring aan op ‘n appèl in die moordsaak van wyle mev. Tienie Botha. Dit volg nadat twee van die vier beskuldiges in die saak deur die Hooggeregshof kwytgeskeld is van die moord op die 78-jarige mev. Botha in Februarie 2009. Die vier mans, David Lihaiwa (29), Rudzani Mufamadi (29), Thobile Jili (26) en Thomas Ramudzuli (40), het terreggestaan op twee klagte van huisbraak, vier klagte van die onwettige besit van ‘n vuurwapen, twee klagte van die onwettige besit van ammunisie, een klag van roof met verswarende omstandighede en een klag van moord. ‘n Vyfde verdagte, Manueal Zitha, is einde Junie 2009 in die Elim Hospitaal dood. Buiten die moord op mev. Botha, hou die klagte ook verband met die gewap ende roof by die Greyling-familie op Louis Trichardt in Januarie 2009. Die mans se verhoor het verlede Maandag begin tydens ‘n sitting van die Hoogeregshof in Louis Trichardt en het tot Vrydag geduur. Al vier die mans is onskuldig bevind op die klag van huisbraak by die Greyling-gesin. Regter Majake Mabesele het bevind dat daar nie genoegsame bewyse was vir ‘n skuldigbevinding nie. Tydens die verhoor het die Staat eerste vir mevv. Elzabé en Annette Greyling, twee skoonsusters wat na bewering deur die vier aangeval is, as getuies geroep. Volgens hulle getuiens het die mans hulle by hul huis in Andersonstraat aangeval, vasgebind en beroof sowat ‘n maand voor Botha se moord. Annette het Mufamadi, Lihaiwa en Ramudzuli in die hof uitgeken as haar aanvallers. Sy het Lihaiwa herken aan sy stem en ‘n krom skouer, omdat hy

vir haar man se onderneming, PJ Timbers gewerk het. Dit was ten spyte daarvan dat Lihaiwa ‘n klapmus gedra het. Regter Mabesele het hierop gesê dat hy nie kon sien dat Lihaiwa ‘n krom skouer het nie en dat Annette ‘n fout kon maak met die uitkenning van Lihaiwa se stem, omdat sy tydens die roof in skok was. Elzabé kon nie die aanvallers uitken nie, het sy getuig, omdat sy vasgebind in die badkamer gelê het. Ná haar hofversky ning het sy vertel dat beide sy en Annette se gesondheid geweldig agteruitgegaan het na die aanval. Annette is gediagnoseer met hartprobleme. Die Staat het hierna die polisiebeamptes geroep wat die mans gearres teer het ná die moord op mev. Botha, asook die twee kontrakteurs wat buite haar huis beroof is deur die mans. Dit was in hierdie stadium dat die beskuldiges aangevoer het dat hulle deur die polisie aangerand en geforseer is om verklarings en uitwysings te maak. Regter Mabesele het beslis dat in Mufamadi en Lihaiwa se gevalle die polisiebewyse toelaatbaar is. “Lihaiwa het in sy verklaring erken dat hy nie aangerand is nie en gesê dat hy die inbraak- en moordtoneel wil uitwys om sy hart skoon te maak,” het Mabesele tydens sy uitspraak gesê. Hierna het Vincent Zulu en Robert Kwinda vir die Staat getuig. Hulle moes die dag van mev. Botha se moord haar dak herstel en het buite die huis gewag dat sy vir hulle die hek kom oopsluit. Terwyl hulle gewag het, het hulle getuig, het die vier mans vanuit die huis op hulle afgestorm en hulle beroof. Zulu het die mans in die hof uitgeken as die aanvallers. Sy selfoon was ook tussen die

goedere wat by Mufamadi en Lihaiwa teruggekry is, toe hulle in Polokwane aangekeer is. Juwele en vuurwapens wat aan mev. Botha behoort het, is deur haar twee dogters, mevv. Susaar Shlesinger en Henriette du Toit, uitgewys. Dit is op hierdie “onbetwisbare getuienis” dat Regter Mabesele Mufamadi skuldig bevind het aan die moord op mev. Botha. Mufamadi is tot lewenslange tronkstraf gevonnis. Op die klag van huisbraak en roof het hy onderskeidelik 15 en 20 jaar gevangenisstraf gekry. Op die klagte van die onwettige besit van 'n vuurwapen en ammunisie het hy altesaam vyf jaar gevangenisstraf gekry. Lihiawa is onskuldig bevind aan die moord. Hy Die 78-jarige mev. Tienie Botha wat op 19 is wel skuldig bevind op die klag van huisbraak Februarie 2009 op Louis Trichardt vermoor en roof, waarvoor hy onderskeidelik 15 en 18 jaar is. gevangenisstraf opgelê is. Hy is ‘n verdere 15 jaar opgelê vir die onwettige besit van ‘n vuurwapen. Die ander twee beskuldiges, Jili en Ramudzuli, is vrygelaat met ‘n waarskuwing. “Julle moet pasop!” het Regter Mabesele vir hulle gesê, voor hulle uit die beskuldigde bank geloop het. Ná afloop van die saak het mnr. Pieter F. Botha, mev. Botha se seun, gesê dat die familie met skok verneem het dat twee van die verdagtes losgekom het. “Ons hoop dat die Staat appèl sal aanteken, want ek is seker dat daardie twee dan skuldig bevind sal word,” het Botha gesê.

Woolworths self aan stuur Teen hierdie tyd sou inwoners al agtergekom het dat die Woolworthstak op Louis Trichardt besig is om ‘n gedaanteverwisseling te ondergaan. Nie net is die koffiewinkel nou gesluit nie, maar die bekende gesig van die franchisee, Adrian Joubert, word ook nie meer in die winkel gesien nie. Adrian het die tak hier geopen en bestuur dit reeds vir die afgelope 16 jaar lank in sy hoedanigheid as uitvoerende direkteur. Die transformasie volg na Woolworths Suid-Afrika se aankondiging verlede jaar dat hulle alle franchise ondernemings gaan sluit.

Volgens Woolworths se hoof uitvoerende beampte, Simon Susman, het hulle na “omvattende strategiese evaluasie” tot die slotsom gekom dat dit nie meer in Woolworths se beste belang is om franschise takke te bedryf nie. Die grootste rede agter die besluit, het hy verduidelik, is dat dit vir Woolworths in ‘n toenemende mate ingewikkeld en duur geraak het om ‘n afsonderlike franchise-onderneming-model te bedryf tesame met sy eie stelsels en prosesse. Die tak op Louis Trichardt sal voortaan as ‘n korporatiewe winkel deur Woolworths self bedryf word.

Polisie moet vinnig betaal of voertuie word verkoop Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens sal vinnig duisende rande in skadevergoe ding moet opdok, anders is die Musina SAPD dalk binnekort talle van hulle polisievoertuie kwyt. Dit volg nadat die balju in Julie vanjaar 13 voertuie by die stasie opgeskryf het, nadat vyf eksekusielasbriewe in die Landdroshof op Musina toegestaan is. Die polisie het glo versuim om skadevergoedingseise aan vier eisers, Isaac Ramuthivheli, Calvin Gerald Bell, Steyn Mostert en Vivian Birch, uit te betaal. Volgens die vier se regsverteenwoordiger, mnr. Hennie Erwee van Musina, spruit die eise uit onregmatige arrestasies gedurende 2008 tot 2010. Hy het toe namens die vier

die Minister van Veiligheid en Sekuriteit gedagvaar op elke klag van onregmatige arrestasie. In Birch se geval was daar twee klagtes. In Ramtuhivheli se geval is hy vir aanranding in hegtenis geneem, sonder ‘n lasbrief, terwyl Bell, Mostert en Birch gearresteer is vir dronkbestuur. In hulle geval is hulle gearresteer sonder dat hulle fisies ‘n voertuig bestuur het. Die arrestasies het by hulle huis plaasgevind. Al vier die eisers, sê Erwee, het ‘n dag in die polisieselle deurgebring. Die Hooggeregshof het Erwee gelyk gegee dat sy kliënte onregmatig gearresteer is. Birch, Bell en Mostert is elk R100 000 in skadevergoeding toegestaan. Aan Ramtuhivheli is R68 320 toegestaan.

Alhoewel daar in van die eisers se gevalle al rente en kostes van die polisie ontvang is, het Erwee gesê dat die veiling sal voortgaan indien die volle vonnisbedrag nie voor of op die datum van die veiling ontvang is nie. Die veiling word beplan vir 26 Augustus. Provinsiale polisiewoordvoerder lt. kol. Ronel Otto het Dinsdag gesê dat daar tans geen “uitstaande eise is nie en dat die Musina SAPD se voertuie veilig is”. Volgens haar behoort al die eisers se gelde teen volgende week in hulle bankrekeninge te reflekteer. “Rasta” poacher finally caught An alleged “rasta” poacher, who is apparently quite the artful dodger and who is accused of poaching inside the Mapungubwe National Park, appeared in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 5. Edson Ngobeni has been charged with various counts of trespassing and catching wild animals without the necessary permits. Ngobeni supposedly managed to elude capture for almost five years, operating with an AK47 and snares and was thought, by some, to be a ghost. The meat of the game he caught supposedly crossed the border into Zimbabwe. Following a tip-off, park rangers managed to arrest Ngobeni on March 23 last year when he planned to sell meat at a nearby farm. Two park rangers pretended to be Zimbabweans

and waited at the farm for Ngobeni. According to information available, Ngobeni got wind of the trap and fled. However, park rangers were quick to gain on him where he was hiding in nearby bushes. Dried meat and muti were found in his possession. The muti was allegedly used to hide his presence in Mapungubwe. After his arrest, Ngobeni apparently asked one of the rangers how it was possible for the ranger to find him hiding in the bushes, covered by his muti. The ranger replied that muti does not work on a man of God. After Ngobeni’s capture, park rangers received praise from all the local communities and farmers surrounding the park. Ngobeni’s case was postponed until August 30, and he will remain in custody until then.

Veiling lewer twee nuwe SA-rekords op Die Soutpansberg Skaarswild Studiegroep se wildveiling op 12 Augustus op Alldays het ongekende belangstelling ontlok. Die veiling gaan jaarliks van krag tot krag, met vanjaar se suk ses wat toegeskryf word aan die uitstekende reklame wat gedoen is, asook die puik aanbod van skaars wild. Die veiling het twee hoogtepunte opgelewer, naamlik die opstel van ‘n nuwe Suid-Afrikaanse rekord vir drie Krugerbuffelverse wat verkoop is vir R650 000. Die vorige rekord was R325 000. Vir die eerste keer is ‘n Split-gemsbok ook verkoop vir ‘n bedrag van R40 000, wat ook as ‘n SA-rekord aangeteken is. In die hokveiling vir teelgroepe (vroulike diere) ver koop jong buffels (gemeng) vir ‘n gemiddelde prys van R175 000, terwyl buffelverse (jonk) en Livingstone-elande onderskeidelik onder die hamer kom vir gemiddelde pryse van

R225 000 en R31 883 (hoogste R37 000). Livingstone-koeie, njalas en swartwitpense verkoop vir gemiddelde pryse van onderskeidelik R36 000, R6 860 (hoogste R8 500) en R150 000. Swartwitpenskoeie en swartwitpensverse behaal gemiddelde pryse van onderskeidelik R182 000 (hoogste R200 000) en R191 000 (hoogste R290 000). System aids crack down on offenders

In an attempt to clear the Mapungubwe Conservation area of litter, the park has launched a clean-up initiative in which people can be rewarded for picking up rubbish. The first winner of this initiative was Cedric Setlako, who picked up a plastic bottle with R250 hidden inside. In addition, Cedric also received a food voucher, sponsored by Musina Spar, to the value of R250. This drive, according to the park’s senior section ranger Stefan Cilliers, was launched after he watched a beer can lying at the entrance gate for three weeks. “Congratulations to Cedric, (he is) truly a good example”. The Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport’s Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System, which manages outstanding warrants of arrest for road traffic offenders, is bearing fruit. According to the departmental spokesperson, Mr Thesan Moodly, the system is working and has netted 1 693 offenders in the Capricorn and Vhembe districts from April to July this year. “A total amount of R808 057 has been paid by traffic offenders, as a result of the system’s operations during this period. Public comment awaited on tourism bill The National Department of Tourism has released the Tourism Draft Bill for public comment. The Bill provides for the continued existence of the South African Tourism Board and the establishment and publication of the National Tourism Sector Strategy. The bill further provides for the establishment of a national information and monitoring system for gathering and disseminating information for the management and development of the industry, including the

monitoring and evaluation of the industry for decision making. It also allows the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive database of information on tourism businesses for purposes of planning and development. Other provisions in the bill are the gazetting of norms and standards and establishing a code of conduct for different sectors within the industry; the development and implementation of a national quality assurance and grading system; and the continued existence of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa

(TGCSA) as a juristic person to implement the grading system. The Bill is open for public comments for a period of sixty (60) days and can be found on NDT’s website, www.tourism. gov.za. According to CoAL, they have only now obtained the “irrevocable undertakings” from Rio Tinto “in terms of the Sale of Purchase Agreement entered into on November 26 of last year.” According to BusinessReport, Chapudi was price tagged at $75 million. The agreement, said CoAL, had been extended to allow for the remaining regulatory approvals required, which includes the Ministerial consent. If CoAL gets the go-ahead for Chapudi, it will double their Makhado project to 947Mt resource and ensure CoAL’s position as the dominant landholder in the Soutpansberg coal basin. The Makhado and Chapudi projects are situated just north of the Soutpansberg, about 60km from Musina.

Cable theft reason for poor services The police at Siloam are urging members of against cable theft in the area. This comes after a group of thieves, also called the community to work with them in the fight Izinyoka, has been terrorizing Siloam and the surrounding villages by stealing the electricity cables. According to the villagers, the theft of the cables is one of the reasons for the poor service delivery in the area. Several institutions, which include schools, the Siloam police station and Siloam Hospital, have been severely affected as a result, with communications to several institutions having been cut-off. The phones at the hospital are currently not working and some of the services that need networks like the Internet are also not working. This is now forcing community members, who used to apply for birth certificates at the home affairs department at the hospital, to travel to other home affairs offices for help. The police at Siloam are now appealing to members of the community to come forward and furnish them with relevant information that can bring the culprits to book. “We are appealing to anyone who has information regarding cable theft in the area to contact us, so that we can successfully arrest the people who are behind this,” said the spokesperson, Capt Itani Muila is photographed with one of the Capt Itani Muila. Smiling Doris gets her final warning A cheerful and smiling Doris Mthembi (39) briefly appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Mthembi appeared on single counts of perjury and obstruction of justice. She was arrested in March this year for making false statements to the police. Mthembi allegedly claimed that her ex-husband, Goddard Tendani Mugwena, had burnt her car and had had her mother-in-law killed before kidnapping and raping her (Mthembi). During her court appearance, Mthembi informed the court that she no longer wished to proceed with her Legal Aid attorney, but that she had appointed a private advocate. The court agreed, but gave Mthembi a final warning. Mthembi is to ensure that her advocate receives his fees to represent her on September 7 or else the court will proceed without legal representation. In the meantime, property of Mthembi to the value of more than R1 million has been confiscated in Thohoyandou and Ritavi by the police’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU). She, together with Nelly Lekgetho (54), was arrested on June 24 – the same day the seizure took place. Both were charged with fraud and released on bail. Mthembi and Lekgetho allegedly defrauded Mugwena of more than R600 000 in 2008. They were allegedly working for Mugwena at his Injected Private College in Thohoyandou when they told students to pay tuition fees to them instead

of depositing the money into the college’s bank account. The AFU also confiscated land, as well as two houses and three cars, from Mthembi. Nothing worthwhile was found under Lekgetho’s name. Their case has been postponed a few times since their arrest. They will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court again on August 29.

Fined over illegal connections Two South Africans based in Musina were fined for illegally connecting the Internet to three companies in Beit Bridge. Court news Wanted: Bolton Tshisudi (26). Policing

Have you seen him? The Levubu police are urging members of the community to help them find a dangerous suspect, Bolton Tshisudi (26). He is wanted in connection with various cases of attempted murder, housebreaking, theft and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Tshisudi is a resident of Tshakhuma. According to the Levubu police spokesperson W/O Solly Mukhola, Tshisudi escaped from the police cells last year. “We are appealing to members of the community to furnish the police with the whereabouts of this man,” he said. Mukhola warned members of the community against trying to apprehend Tshisudi. “He is dangerous and whoever sees him must alert the police,” warned Mukhola. Man who rapes boy sentenced A 20-year-old man from Vleifontein who had raped a 12-year-old boy was sent to jail for six years. The man was sentenced in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court on Monday. He was arrested on June 23 this year after the boy sought police assistance. The boy told police that he was playing video games at a store in Eltivillas when the man approached him and forced him into the bushes

across Makhado Crossing at knife point. When the man was taken in for questioning by the police, he confessed that he had in fact raped the boy and was arrested on the spot. The man was brought before court, where he pleaded guilty. As part of his sentence, the man’s name will be recorded in the National Sex Offenders Register.

R2 000 or four days in jail while their company was fined R4 000 for operating in Zimbabwe without a telecommunications licence. The prosecutor, Mr Jabulani Mberesi, said between January and July, Botes and Jacobs entered Zimbabwe through the Beit Bridge Border Post, using South African passports, and they installed Internet facilities for three companies in the border town. The pair did not, however, have valid work permits to operate in the country, the court heard. They were arrested by police detectives, following a tip-off.

“God expect us to treat each other with respect and preserve dignity”

am a Musina resident and have a terrible problem with the disgusting state of the town. The filth and state of the roads are really disgusting and a sore eye to not just the residents, but also to the visitors - foreign and national. Considering that we are the town that is the “gateway” to Africa, this place is a garbage dump. Residents are constantly sick. I would like to rally the residents into action to clean up a certain area of the town - being the channel next to the Home Affairs building across from the N1. The action will take place on Saturday, 10 September 2011, giving everyone an opportunity to take part if they so wish, without having to take time off work. We are going to canvas the shops in that area and try and get assistance from them with regard to finance or supplies, such as safety equipment and cleaning materials. My biggest concern is the lack of ablution facilities for the foreigners and some form of under-cover protection for sleeping. I feel that if the government allows the foreigners into the country, they should be responsible for providing at least sanitation facilities and a safe sleeping area. It is not the visitors’ fault that they have to wait days, sometimes weeks or even months for their papers to be processed. The municipality needs to provide a continuous clean-up service in all areas to reduce the rate of infection/ contamination, not to mention the crime from desperate people who are hungry and shelterless. I don’t

feel that it is solely up to private businesses, churches and NGOs to carry any of these costs, let alone most or all of the costs. It is the RESPONSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT! We have already paid our dues (taxes), but once again government turns a blind eye. These foreigners have fled to SA because they believe that SA is the role model of a “perfect” democratic society/country (the country of milk and honey), only to find out when they get here that this country is little better than the one they left. Once again they are homeless, hungry, jobless and shunted around by bureaucratic governmental departments while trying to get their documents legally. I’m not so naive as to believe that there isn’t a criminal element at work in town, riding on the back of the “blame” given to the foreigners, but these people are desperate for survival; where else must they go? When ANC members were exiled during the apartheid era, if it wasn’t for our neighbouring African countries’ generosity in taking them in, they would not have survived, so why should the ANC government not offer the same assistance and “hospitality”? This must not just be lip service, but money should actually be channelled in the right direction as well as doing something physical to assist these people and our town. God EXPECTS us to treat each other with dignity, so why isn’t our government doing so? - Concerned Resident (Musina)

Hats off to all of you for the support

hank you so much to every parent who supported our Tondani Day Care Project. It was a huge success and we are taking the food to them in weekly packets, due to their storage shortage. Thanks to Wood Solutions, the wood structure for the veranda went up and the learners of Ridgeway College pledged their support in raising the money for the roof. The Grade 7 pupils went to Tondani on Saturday, July 30, to paint the little school. We were lucky enough to also have the support of some staff members and various parents, whom we thank heartily. We managed to put up a few shelves and Mehul Bava paid to have the broken window pane fixed. Thanks to Mr Fouché for donating

the paint and all the brackets and wood for the shelves and Mr Tuan Oosthuysen for his time in putting up the veranda. Thanks also to Mr Sean Waller for donating the roof screws. The R100 we received as a donation was used to buy prepaid electricity, so that we could use power tools. We’ve been blessed by working with this crèche - to see the need and their appreciation of even the smallest donation has humbled us all and made us appreciate our own comforts so much more. This shows us that the sheep has such confidence in the Shepherd that he can lay aside all anxiety of danger, and because of his confidence he is willing to lie down, and keeps perfectly quiet and still. Eskom has managed to ruin my love life

rdinary women all over will understand when I say that keeping your man happy is, at the best of times, not an easy undertaking. And I’m not talking about ironing his shirts or keeping the fridge stocked with his favourite beer. No, babies, I’m talking about bed sports. A slap and a tickle, with a happy ending (hopefully for both parties). Playing doctor… (No, I did not mention any injections). I’m sure y’all know what I mean by now.

bed - the one we inherited from my late parents, I must add – but the activity is often more of the chinwagging, verbal kind (No, I did not say oral, although…). On those occasions that we do indulge in anatomical exploration and in-depth examination of our bodily urges, I prefer the ambience to be warm and secure – you know: candlelight, soft music, soft sheets covering my ample assets, that kind of thing. Hubby, on the other hand, is all for the glare of spotlights What with all the tiresome, exposing every single nanometre mundane activities we perform of my physique, with nothing on every day (think Milo Mum), albeit the bed except a pillow or two. He with a little less enthusiasm than is totally uninhibited and happily the Vital lady on TV, who swings ignores all and any embarrassing down from a vine into the arms body parts that might have changed of her Jungle Jim, scantily clad in shape and size over the 30 odd an almost-dress of leopard print, years we’ve been together. Once we do still want to spend intimate he has managed to get me to play moments with our significant othalong, so to speak, this is less probers. The happy ending need not be lematic for me and I usually join in the same every time (at least not with enthusiasm. for me). I take great pleasure in HOWEVER (isn’t there always a sharing space with my hubby in “however” lurking in the backthe confines of our modest double ground, waiting to rear its [often

And by temperature I literally mean the degree of warmth in the room; the centigrade at which the fun has to take place, and more specifically, the lack of cold. I simply do not function properly, in any way, when I am cold. No matter how vigorous and energetic the activities in the bed might be, any part of me exposed to the cold winter air immediately freezes and sends a message to my brain to cease and desist. And here I’m not only talking about the most obvious parts that spring to mind when one thinks of women getting cold... Now, my darling husband - God bless his soul and every other part of his unique physique – is really concerned about the environment, which is another of the multitude of reasons why I love him. He really believes in doing his bit to save the planet, and part of this enthusiasm is saving electricity. Eskom’s plight of needing to ration the bit of electricity we pay more dearly

each passing month is close to his heart. He spends a lot of time going all over the house, switching off “unnecessary” consumers of electricity appliances, lights, heaters, electric blankets, heaters, the borehole, heaters, TVs, heaters, etc. Good for him; he makes me proud, and I wouldn’t want him any other way. But if the bedroom where he wants to have his way with me is cold, his chances are about as good as Julius Malema voting FF+ in the next election. Ain’t gonna happen! So that’s why I’m saying, Eskom has ruined my love life. Their lack of foresight, their *&^% poor planning, their utter incompetence, their … whatever other words you can find that express sufficient disgust – all of these have ruined any chance that Hubby and I will indulge in undercover activities while the temperature remains this low. Die wedstryd is op 13 Augustus op Triegies se tuisveld beslis. Triegies wen die loot en besluit om eerste te kolf, waarna hulle 440 lopies vir die verlies van

slegs drie paaltjies in 50 boulbeurte aanteken. Die beste kolwers was Lindsay Viljoen, wat 155 lopies (nie uit nie) van 200 aanteken en Talita Kloppers wat 101 lopies van 104 balle moker. Richelle Lambert teken 59 lopies (nie uit nie) vanaf 73 balle. Stanford kolf tweede en word almal uitgehaal vir 82 lopies in 23.3 beurte. Triegies se beste boulers was Edwanae van Dyk, wat 'n skitterende vyf paaltjies plattrek in

vier boulbeurte vir die verlies van sewe lopies, en Heidi-lene Jonck, wat twee paaltjies neem in vyf beurte vir die verlies van 14 lopies. Talita Kloppers laat twee paaltjies kantel in vier boulbeurte en staan 18 lopies af. Triegies wen met 358 lopies. Lindsay Viljoen is die speler van die wedstryd. Die span en afrigters bedank Brenner Meule (Home of Shaya) wat hul hemde geborg het.

Soutpansberg Uitdaag lewer weereens goeie spel op Die Soutpansberg Muurbalklub se Die toernooi is die eerste keer in het die afgelope paar jaar gegroei tot agt spanne jaarlikse Soutpansberg Uitdaag het 1988 beslis en is vanjaar vir die 23ste van vyf spelers elk wat in ‘n A-, B- en C-afdeling vanaf 12 tot 14 Augustus weereens keer aangebied. Aanvanklik was slegs meeding. Vanjaar se hoofborg was Autozone. Die klub het vir opwindende spel gesorg. vier spanne genooi, maar dié getal groot waardering vir hul borge en deur die jare het talle sakepersone en besighede hul gewig by die toernooi ingegooi. Vorige borge sluit is Sanlam (Paul Horn), Marius Brönn Apteek, Summit Auto Body Shop en CocaCola Fortune. Vanjaar se uitdaag is beslis tussen Louis Trichardt, Tzaneen, Kentron en Adelaars. Laas genoemde twee spanne is van Pretoria. Adelaars, die verdedigende kampioene in die A-liga, kon vanjaar weer daarin slaag om hul titel suksesvol te verdedig. Tzaneen eindig tweede, met Soutpansberg derde en Kentron laaste. Soutpansberg se A-span spelers was Lofty Fourie, Bertus Guillaume, Erik Welman, Cilliers Vosloo en WilSoutpansberg se B-span, met Autozone as hoofborg, eindig tweede. Die lem van Wyngaard. Rob Abrams (Kentron) en span het bestaan uit (voor, van links) Hannes Spies en Franco Welman. Die klub het al vanjaar se borge van die uitdaag bedank, insluitend Autozone, Coca-Cola Fortune, Premier Auto, Premjee, Tiger Brands, Nedbank, SA Breweries, Palm Drankwinkel, Lente Bruid Boerdery, Hyundai Louis Trichardt, McCarthy Soutpansberg se A-span, met hul hemde geborg deur McCarthy Call-a-Car Polokwane, J & D Fasteners, Marius (Polokwane). Die span het bestaan uit (voor, van links) Cilliers Vosloo, Brönn Apteek, Playboy Erik Welman en Franco Welman. Agter is Lofty Fourie, Dirk du Preez Sports en Acornhoek Spares. en Jacques Smalle.

Die Hangklip Posduif Klub se drie wedvlugte vir die naweek het plaasgevind vanaf Vryburg Saterdag die 13de Augustus. Royal Hokke wen die 1ste wedvlug met ‘n wenspoed van 1235.89 meter per minuut met Tahiti Hokke in die 2de en 3de plekke. Beide die hokke is van Nico Bezuidenhout en sy Royal Hokke wen dan ook die Jaarlikse Dames kompetisie. Met die B wedvlug is weer Royal wat die eerste plek inpalm, Tahiti Hokke 2de en Dercksen

Kofi Apea-Adu of Louis Trichardt High School attended the U/17 South African cricket camp at Supersport Park in Centurion on August 8 and 9. Kofi was one of four cricket players who had been selected to represent Limpopo. The aim of the camp was to search for talent for the South African U/19 elite squad to have trials for the U/19 World Cup. Kofi is waiting for the results of the talent camp.

Triegies wen die loot en stuur Pietersburg in om eerste te kolf. Die Pieties teken 171 lopies aan in 34 boulbeurte. Daarna gaan kolf Louis Trichardt en teken 163 lopies aan in slegs 24 boulbeurte. “Die O/15’s het hulle baie goed van hulle taak gekwyt, al verloor hulle met 8 lopies,” sê krieketaf rigter mnr. Johan Minnie. Uitstekende boulwerk het gekom van Triegies se Damian Zeelie, wat 6 paaltjies in 8 boulbeurte vir die verlies van 44 lopies neem. Met die kolf blink Jacques Jordaan uit. Jacques teken 42 lopies van slegs 21 balle aan. “Louis Trichardt se veldwerk en boulwerk was baie goed en die seuns het met ‘n baie positiewe gesindheid gespeel. Dit alles het bygedra tot die spannende krieket wat opgedis is,” sê mnr. Minnie, wat oortuig is dat hierdie span dit nog ver gaan bring.

Louis Trichardt gasheer vir finaal van Boet Fick-liga Louis Trichardt sal vir die eerste keer in jare weer optree as gasheer van die finale rondte van die jaarlikse provinsiale Boet Fick-rugbyliga, ná Saterdag se oortuigende rugbysege. Louis Trichardt se eerstes het die afgelope naweek te staan gekom teen Winterveld en oortuigend gewen met 60 punte teenoor 12. Die tweedes (Levubu) het te staan gekom teen die Universiteit van Limpopo en hul opponente 69-7 kafgedraf. Buiten vir die afgelope naweek se rugbylesse aan besoekers, het Louis Trichardt se eerstes en die tweedes van Levubu vroeër vanjaar rugbylesse uitgedeel aan

Loskop en Musina. Louis Trichardt se eerstes beklee tans die top posisie op die Boet Fick-punteleer met 19 punte. Hulle het vier wedstryde gespeel, waarvan hulle al vier gewen het. Eers het hulle met Musina afgereken en daarna met Loskop, Phalaborwa en Winterveld. Musina beklee die tweedeplek met 17 punte en drie wenne en een verloor, en Loskop die derdeplek met 12 punte met twee wenne en twee nederlae. Op 27 Augustus sal die eerste spanne wat tweede- en derdeplek op die punteleer beklee mekaar die stryd aansê in die semifinaal om te bepaal wie in die finaal teen

Louis Trichardt te staan gaan kom. Louis Trichardt sal daardie naweek kan rus. As daar na die puntestand gekyk word, sal dit na alle waarskynlikheid Loskop en Musina wees wat in die semifinaal sal speel. Wat tweedespanne betref, kraai Louis Trichardt se Levubu-span ook koning boaan die punteleer met 10 punte, met die Universiteit van Limpopo slegs een punt agter hulle in die tweedeplek. Phalaborwa lê tans derde met vyf punte. Die Louis Trichardt Rugbyklub se goeie vertoning die afgelope seisoen het aan hulle 'n tuisfinaal besorg. Die finaal sal op 3 September op die klub se velde beslis word.
