Aftermath of alleged ritual murder

Turmoil at Ha-Mutonga By Peter Muthambi

Angry community members of Ha-Mutonga village outside Elim allegedly set alight and burnt down the houses of a sangoma, who had been arrested for a suspected ritual murder. He and five others had allegedly killed and set on fire a 52-year-old man, Mr Philip Chambeti Bendzani, in the village a week ago. All five the houses of Mr Frans Madzivhe have been destroyed and most of his belongings perished in last Saturday’s attack. Madzivhe (54), a sangoma, and Messrs Rudzani Shadrack Malange (21), Meshack Mkhwanadzi (20), Lesley Meshack Malange (21), Reynie Abraal (31) and David Mnisi (27) had been arrested and charged with Bendzani’s murder. The accused

had allegedly removed the victim’s pubic hair and testicles and set him alight. Apart from burning Madzivhe’s houses last Saturday, the angry residents allegedly went as far as burning the accused’s goats alive and also removing the eyes of some of the goats. Family members had to run for their lives during the attack. The police have since arrested 20 people, following the violence. The spokesperson for the police at Waterval, W/O Kedibone Mabatha, confirmed the arrests. He said that three cases of arson, public violence and malicious damage to property had been opened. Those arrested are between the ages of 15 and 53 years. According to Mabatha, most of those arrested are Zimbabwean nationals. They

appeared in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and were denied bail. “We are warning people not to take the law into their own hands during situations like this,” said Mabatha. He added that the police must be allowed to do their jobs without any interference from the community. Those who were arrested during the violent protest had not yet appeared in court at the time of going to press. In reaction to the killing of the goats, an SPCA inspector at Makhado, Insp Lawrence Khodobo, said that the SPCA would not tolerate such behaviour. At present he is awaiting a police report, so that

he can lay charges of cruelty against the accused. According to Mabatha, police investigations are still continuing. On Wednesday, members of the Makhado Public Order Policing were still in the area to keep the peace. Madzive and his co-accused appeared in the Louis Trichardt District Court again on Tuesday and the case was postponed to 5 June for a bail application. Residents had also threatened to take the law in their own hands if the suspects were given bail.

“I have a dream ...” - Mutavhatsindi The mayor of Makhado Municipality, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, has expressed his dream for the town of Makhado. “We want it to grow to be the socio-economic hub of our municipality. As a result of the strategic location, our town or municipality has been identified as a growth point. Soon there should be huge infrastructure growth. We want it to grow into a city; it will be changed completely!” Mutavhatsindi said. He admitted, however, that there is no way that the town can be developed “if the capacity of water, sewerage and electricity is not fine”. He said that there was currently “not one area where we can say that the water supply is fine.” A reasonable standard of service for the town was described by the mayor. “I The mayor of Makhado don’t expect a Munic ipality, Cllr David situation where the residents will Mutavhatsindi.

go for even a day without water. I don’t expect a situation where streets are not user friendly; they must be without potholes. Concerning the electricity around here, we do not experience many problems, although we know very well that the capacity of the substations is very low and needs to be upgraded for further developments to take place. I am happy because I understand that, in terms of the sewer system, there is upgrading underway,” Mutavhatsindi said. In the meantime, ordinary ratepayers in town have expressed their need to have the managers and directors of their municipality live nearby and feel accountable. The posts of municipal manager and chief financial officer are two important positions that are in the process of being filled. “We need committed people who have a history here, who feel the pain of dirty water, drive the ‘potholed’ streets, see the dirt and rubbish lying around and who want to improve the town to be the beautiful town at the foot of the unique Soutpansberg mountain range that can attract tourists to improve job creation and make the economy grow. It can be done – we are committed to that as well, and offer our assistance in this matter,” wrote the chairperson of the Soutpansberg Ratepayers Association, Ms Inga Gilfillan, to Mayor Mutavhatsindi. The letter was also delivered to the MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs and forwarded to Premier Cassel Mathale and the ANC provincial Exco. The Chairpersons Association, of which the SRPA forms part, said that “it is our view that the municipality cannot continue to be managed by people who either do not live in this town or area, who are not known by this community and who are not trained, skilled and experienced people for these jobs. The people are not even in touch with the public living within the Makhado Municipality. They are unapproachable and do not respond to any letters of the public,” said CA Chairperson Mr André Naudé. He referred to three directors who are living in Thohoyandou, as well as the acting municipal manager, Mr Elias Mugari, who resides in Polokwane. Mutavhatsindi did not agree with that sentiment. “That one is a non-issue. Councillors are expected to live in their wards, but there is no legislation that requires administrators to stay in town,” he said. Both the CA and the SRPA requested per letter that observer status be granted to them at the interviews for the posts of municipal manager and chief financial officer. The mayor said that it would not be practical to allow all stakeholders to be present. “Even in terms of legislation, is there legislation that allows for that?” Mutavhatsindi asked and expressed his desire to meet with the relevant bodies to understand the basis of their request. “Although a meeting did take place and was in good spirit, to date, neither the letter of the SRPA nor that of the CA had been answered,” Gilfillan said on Tuesday.

Residents encouraged to blow the whistle The Makhado SAPS have encouraged residents to start blowing the whistle on crime. The police have now resorted to using real whistles as essential tools to fight crime in the communities they serve. A Blow-a-Whistle Campaign was launched in Vleifontein last Wednesday. According to the Makhado police station’s spokesperson, Capt Maano Sadike, the whistles should be used by members of the community in the fight against crime. “We realised that without in-

volving the community it would be difficult for us to win the war against crime. The whistles will assist the community to work as a team. We need them to have a team spirit, so that they can assist each other to fight crime,” he said. Sadike said that members of the community would have to blow the whistles as a way of calling others when a crime is happening. “Community members will be working closely with the police during this project,” he

Drag racing case postponed yet again The man from Tshaulu, Mphedziseni Mawela, who stands accused of killing seven people and injuring three others during a so-called drag race, appeared in the Tshaulu Periodical Court on Tuesday. Mawela (28) faces seven charges of murder, three of attempted murder and of driving under the influence of liquor. He was granted bail of R2 000

in March after being released from hospital where he had been admitted after the accident. The case was postponed to 31 July for further investigations and his bail was extended. It is alleged that on Saturday, 10 March, Mawela and an unknown man were drag racing when Mawela lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into a group of people at Tshidzini.

New wing road for Musina on the cards The scene is now being set for the construction of the proposed Musina Western Wing Road. The draft environmental impact assessment report for this project is now available for public comment. With this project the South African National Raods Agency Limited (SANRAL) intends to upgrade and construct a new section of the N1 as a ring road

to the west of Musina. The new road will link the existing carriage way to the south of Musina, just before the intersection to the military base, to the existing carriageway of the N1 to the north of Musina. An environmental impact assesment (EIA) is conducted for the proposed route in terms of the appropriate environmental regulations. The draft EIA report is now available for public comment.

According to a communication by the concerned consultant agency, Chameleon Environmental, the report will be available for review from 30 May to 30 June at the Musina municipal library and Nancefield public library. According to provincial police spokesperson Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, the suspects, armed with 9mm pistols, started shooting when the police stopped to investigate. A shootout between the four men and the police then erupted. Amidst the chaos, the robbers apparently tried to flee into the bushes but were gunned down before they even managed to reach a nearby farm’s boundary fence. One of the suspects was shot dead next to the BMW. Another one succumbed only a few meters further away, while the remaining two’s bodies were found in the reserve next to the road. Neither the Coin security guards nor any of the policemen were injured during the shootout. Following the incident, the police said it was clear that crime did not pay. “It’s a clear indication of the hard stance that we take against criminals who think they can come and commit crime in this province, and in the process also turn their firearms on the police,” remarked provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Simon Mpembe. Municipality cuts Makhado FM’s electricity supply The lights literally went out for community radio station Makhado FM on Tuesday. This followed after the Makhado Municipality at long last cut the electricity supply to the premises. Rumour has it that the station owes the municipality more than R83 000 in outstanding bills. The electricity cut is the latest in a series of issues that the radio station has been battling with. The events at the station resemble a dramatic soap opera, with station managers appearing in court, boards not being recognised and presenters resigning every week. It is a muddy puddle of accusations, counter-accusations and power struggles. The spokesperson for the Makhado Municipality, Mr Louis Bobodi, confirmed on Tuesday that the electricity had been cut due to non-payment. He said that, according to the municipality’s policy, if a client exceeded a certain credit limit, services were cut off. “Like any other client, Makhado FM owes the municipality for electricity and, like e v e r y b o d y else, they Suspended Makhado have to pay,â€? FM station manager he said. When Mr Moses Muneri. contacted for

comment, the CEO of Luonde Media Resources, Mr Junior Ramovha, said our reporter should speak to the station manager, Mr Makonde Mbedzi. Mbedzi refused to comment and promised to phone our reporter back, but this did not happen. The suspended station manager, Mr Moses Muneri, said that he had been made aware of the problem and he had already reported it to ICASA. “Things are not well at the station. I am surprised to hear that the management had failed to pay the electricity bill, since the station has adverts that are running on air every day, said Muneri. The national spokesperson of ICASA, Mr Paseka Maleka, said that his organisation would not get involved with the station’s debt. He said the station was required to be on air for all the hours they had been licensed for. By law, the station had to contact ICASA and provide reasons why they were off the air. “I just do not know if the station did contact ICASA or not, because I am currently not in the office, said Maleka. At the time of going to press, the radio station was still off air. While the darkness is continuing at the station’s premises, the spotlight is moving from one court case to the other, involving the main role players at the station. Two weeks ago, Junior Ramovha and Makonde Mbedzi had to appear in court, facing accusations that they had defamed the good reputation of ousted station manager Takalani Khomola. Khomola, on his part, had to defend himself against accusations that he had stolen the radio station’s property.

A charge of theft was also laid against the suspended station manager, Moses Muneri, stating that he had removed a transmitter. Moses Muneri appeared before the Louis Trichardt District Court again last Friday to defend himself against the theft allegations. The case was postponed to 3 July and his bail of R2 000 was extended. Whether there are any merits in the theft charge is debatable. Sources from within the radio station are convinced that the accusations against Muneri form part of a plot to remove him from the radio station. Muneri said this week that the truth would come out and that he would return to the station as its legitimate station manager. The issue of outstanding debt is haunting the station. It was previously reported that Luonde Media Resources, the license holder, owes the landlord more than R800 000. The final amount could not be established, but it was clear that the station is in dire financial straits. Presenters have not been paid for quite some time and most of them are expected to work for free. Another presenter, Dakalo “Tshionyolosiâ€? Muvhali, resigned as a result of the fact that he was not paid. “I was promised a salary of R6 000 by Junior Ramovha. I trusted the man, but to my surprise I did not get any payment at the end of the month,â€? he said. Muvhali said that he then decided to go back to Tzaneen FM. Most of the listeners expressed their disappointment with Muvhali’s resignation. “He was one of the best presenters at the station,â€? they said.

The Makatu family of Shayandima formalised their marriage when they recently tied the knot during a lavish wedding ceremony. Tshilidzi Samuel Makatu and his sweetheart, Elisa, said “I doâ€? to each other during a ceremony held at the Thohoyandou Arts and Culture Centre. New life to former offenders A Vhembe-based non-governmental organisation, the New Life After Prison Community Forum, has decided to build a strong and lasting relationship between communities, offenders and victims. Created a year ago, the organisation had already donated welding and knitting machines to 14 ex-offenders in February, so that they could start empowering themselves. The chairperson of the forum, Mr Ndikandafhi Makhuvha, was speaking during a media conference in Thohoyandou on Thursday. He aimed to highlight the development the forum was aiming to achieve. “Every person

has the right to live, including the sinners. There is no one who is perfect in life, and we are all living by the Grace of God. Everybody needs a second chance. That is why New Life After Prison stood up to assist offenders in achieving their second chance in life, Makhuvha said. He said some of the offenders were said rejected by their communities, families and friends as soon as they were released from prison. The forum, however, is active in changing the lives of ex-offenders for the better, he said. He added that they visited various communities, churches and schools to talk about the matter.

NEW AT RAYMOND’S GLASS... BALUSTRADES & SECURITY CAMERAS

“You have to dream big, even though you don’t have anything, because you don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow. The more you dream, the more doors open for you." These were the words of the 37-year-old Joyce Magidi after she was announced as the April winner of Kiwi’s Anything is possible when you shine competition. She won R50 000 to use towards making her dreams a reality. Magidi, who is currently unemployed and living in Ngovhela, will be furthering her education at a local college in the field of marketing and business management with the prize money – a dream since she was a teenager. After seeing a promotional advertisement for the competition at her local grocery store, Magidi bought a tin of Kiwi shoe polish and SMSed the secret code found in the container to the competition hotline

“I’ve always wanted to study, but was not able to because I had to look after my grandmother. When I got married and had three children, I struggled to get a job because I don’t have any qualifications. I’ve done a few free marketing courses, but to be able to study at a college means I can get a good job and provide for my children,” said Magidi. Magidi will invest the rest of her winnings, so that her children can one day study too. She explains that not having enough money to help her children is very frustrating, and she is glad that the money will help not only her, but also her children to live out their dreams. “When my child comes to me asking for a small thing, like a pen, and I cannot afford to give it to her, I feel very bad. Winning this competition means I can give my family the life they deserve,” she said. “Knowing we are able to help

make someone’s dream come true gives us the opportunity to give back to the community and see positive changes in our country,” said Malusi Mngxathi, Kiwi's senior brand manager, when he visited Magidi to hand over her prize money. “We want to encourage people like Magidi to strive for a brighter future for her and her children, and we wish her well in her chosen field of study.” The ‘Anything is possible when you shine’ competition, which kicked off in January this year, is giving consumers the chance to make their dreams a reality and is currently open to all South Africans until the end of June 2012. With over R1 million in prizes to be won, including one of six monthly cash prizes of R50 000, the contest aims to reward people for working hard and pursuing their dreams. Abducted Thabo Siavhe (26) back at Tshikwarani For a 28-year-old man who was abducted in the Sudan and held captive for more than 20 days, walking the stony streets of his mother village once again feels like a daydream. Thabo Siavhe arrived in Tshikwarani at around 22:30 on Tuesday last week. Siavhe is one of the four men who were captured by North Sudanese soldiers while doing landmine-clearance work on a United Nations contract in Sudan on 28 April. The four workers apparently entered the wrong territory while busy with their duties as humanitarian relief workers. They all were eventually released on 20 May to former South African President and chief African Union mediator Mr Thabo Thabo Siavhe is now Mbeki. a free man, after Of the four men, his release from a Thabo and a local SuSudanese military danese were actual emjail. ployees of the state-

owned Denel-Mechem company. Siavhe is an expert mechanic, driver and workshop manager. Siavhe landed at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, welcomed by a crowd of journalists and well-wishers. At the airport, he met his mother, VhoJohanna Mahlangu-Siavhe, who instantly became all smiles as joy and happiness overwhelmed her on seeing her son, after nearly a full month of pain, frustration and uncertainty. That very night, he drove all the way from Gauteng to his home village, Tshikwarani, in the Kutama area. On Wednesday afternoon, together with the Limpopo Mirror, Thabo went to the chief's palace to pay his respects. “I am told by my employers that the Kutama Traditional Authority kept phoning Denel-Mechem day and night, enquiring about my health, security and the possibility of my release,” said Siavhe. “Even the South African ambassador in Sudan told me about many calls they had received from your

office. It really shows that you care about me.” On Sunday morning, a welcoming event was held at the chief's kraal to present Siavhe to the Kutama populace. Siavhe said that he was happy to have reunited with his family and South Africa at large once more. He also added that people should not think that he had been abused physically in the Sudanese jail. “I only feared for my life, even though I knew I was not a spy as they suspected us to be," he said. “Sudan carried out their investigations and released us. So, people mustn't fear to visit other African countries, even Sudan, because of what happened to me.” Chief Vho-Vele Kutama said that they believed that Thabo had learnt a lot from his painful experiences in the Sudanese military jail. "We want to believe that you're now more than an ordinary male character," Chief Vho-Kutama addressed Siavhe during the event. "We wish you good health and prosperity. We hear that there are people who are going around spreading lies that Thabo had been arrested with a truckload of machine guns. You must stop spreading those lies now." However, while he was in the jail, Siavhe said, he worried about his son greatly. “I feared he might grow up without knowing his father's face,” he spoke. He added that he would still be working for DenelMechem since he did not have the soul of a coward. "I am only The elated crowd of family members and friends welcome Thabo Siavhe home. Plain Truth The quest for morality

How does a woman feel loved?

Men are weird and women are strange. God designed us that way, so we can’t completely figure out the other sex. This is something that keeps the chemistry going; hence we need to make efforts to understand each other to avoid disappointments and hurts in our relationships. If you want more harmony and intimacy in your marriage, you need to learn to understand what makes your spouse tick. This is one of the useful tools that can uplift your marriage and love. In this article, I look more specifically at the heart of a woman. This is something important for men to understand in order to nourish their lovelife with their wives until death separates them or Christ comes for the second time. A woman is somebody who needs to be loved. Obviously when we talk about love, we are talking of such elements as patient, kindness, protection, trust, hope and perseverance as outlined in 1 Corinthians 13:4,7. These are the things that any woman is looking for in a relationship. It makes a woman happy when her man shows these characteristics. A man must therefore learn to express his love towards his spouse. Without love, you would not be happy or want to play, and every man must therefore learn to express his love through words and deeds. When last did you tell your wife that you love her? Some have last heard these words the day they were proposed to. When last did you bring a gift for

your wife or just prepare a meal for her? There is nothing more beautiful and exciting than a wife who feels loved. I know that this sounds very much ideal and not a reality, but you can live this dream when you know the true foundation of love. Love given to another person must first be given to God. True love for God will overflow and get reflected in the other person as well. If we love God first, we will then truly love another person because we will always be reminded of true love, grace, and mercy, which include such words as forgiveness and reconciliation - words which are the ingredients of true love. We learn self-giving love when we first embrace the self-giving love of Christ on the cross. Without this foundation, we will always struggle to express our love and make it known to our spouses - something that they deserve and something which makes them tick. We can therefore conclude by advising all men out there to say if your marriage is based on God’s principles, then you will not shy away from expressing your love to your wives. Love is, without doubt, a decision that we consciously make each day as to how best we can treat our spouses and make them happy without hurting them. We will continue with this discussion in our next article. - Prof Derrick Mashau (Derrick. Mashau@nwu.ac.za)

Mahlati to lead Vhembe Disability Forum Huge celebrations at Hilmary Centre The newly elected leadership for Vhembe Disability Forum (VDF) has promised to work tirelessly for the benefit of all disabled people within Vhembe. This was said by Mr Jeffrey Mahlati, chairperson of the committee that was elected during the District Disability Forum’s bi-annual conference at Fig Tree Lodge in Muledane last weekend. The forum helps the district municipality to identify and address challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the district. The VDF is currently located in the office of the executive mayor in the Special Programme Unit, where issues of persons

with disabilities are being coordinated. The leaders said they were happy with the fact that programmes of persons with disabilities were budgeted for by the Vhembe District Municipality. Over the past two years, the forum succeeded through its sub-committees, in negotiating for the employment of people with disabilities in some of the local municipalities. Persons with disabilities were also trained in various programmes, including how to start and sustain their businesses. They were also trained on how to access finances and how to start their own co-operatives and consortiums. Giving an address at the

event, Cllr Rapson Rambuwani said the forum should find answers to why a large number of people living with disabilities are still unemployed and poor. He wanted to know why there are only a few disabled people in our schools and tertiary institutions. The other members of the forum are Nndanduleni Tshidavhula (deputy chairperson), Nndwakhulu Nemaheni (secretary), Molly Makahdo (deputy secretary), Lufuno Tshifhango (treasury), while Jacob Mofokeng, Josheph Sekhwama, Lydia Nemafhohoni, Ivy Bell, Selina Muswobi, Ntungufhadzeni Mandinda, Hery Makhanthisa and Khensani Chauke are additional members.

Newly renovated shelters a blessing for commuters Organisation aims to uplift Scorching heat and cold rainy weather conditions are no longer problems for commuters in Thulamela. Thanks to a partnership between Alert Steel and P&L Hardware, 16 damaged bus stops were refurbished and painted. The bus stops were officially handed over to the mayor of Thulamela, Cllr Grace Mahosi, on Monday. Mahosi, who was accompanied by her municipality’s Speaker, Cllr Shadrack Maluleke, the chief of traffic in Thulamela, Thilivhali Mulaudzi, and some members of her management team, was visibly excited when they were shown the new-look bus stops along the R524 road at the Shayandima industrial site. The bus stops were refurbished free of charge. Handing over the newly refurbished bus stops, Alert Steel chief executive Johan du Toit said his company was touched to see the badly damaged bus stops on the way

to Thohoyandou. “After some meetings and commitment from all the parties, the municipality gave us the opportunity to plough back into the community. We are delighted to have met a mayor who has vision. In other areas is it not easy as they have many demands outside our scope of responsibility,” he said. Du Toit said as the largest retailer in steel, they have embarked on a programme of making steel accessible to all, even those in the most remote rural villages, by introducing container shops. “We still have a lot of things in the pipeline for the community. We will refurbish the remaining bus stops until all of them are done,” he said. He said besides bringing the container service to remote areas, they also identify a project in that community where they provide assistance. Mr Jacques van Deventer, marketing

and projects manager at P&L Hardware, said they had assisted the local community in many ways. According to him, they also train locals in different skills and offer them employment after training. “We have been involved in this community for many years. We have assisted in times of disasters and repaired roofs, donated material for countless community initiatives and, with Alert Steel as partner, we are bound to go a long way in assisting our communities,” he said. Thulamela Mayor Grace Mahosi commended Alert Steel and its partners for adding value in reducing development constraints in the municipality. “A special thanks to Alert Steel, P&L Hardware and Boeties Security Fencing and Welding Works, together with their management, for making this unforgettable mark in our community,” she said.

Happy days are back for Thulamela commuters. Sixteen refurbished bus stops were officially handed to Thulamela Municipality on Monday. In the photo are the management of Alert Steel, P&L Hardware, Thulamela Municipality and the workers who refurbished the bus stops. In the background are the newly refurbished bus stops, which were donated by the two companies.

She stays in a dilapidated one-roomed dwelling with three of her remaining children; her other three grownup children have passed on. So far, she has nothing to show from the hardearned democracy... She is one of the millions of South Africans who still have to endure extreme poverty, despite promises of a better life for all. The local municipality has given her a tent that she has put on top of the collapsed structure that she calls her home. She said she had a house in Gauteng but had to abandon it because of her ill health. She does not qualify for another house here at home. Circumstances are forcing her to endure the cold and rain She is now appealing to Good Samaritans for assistance, so that she has shelter where she can stay with her children. During Limpopo Mirror’s visit, a group of youths of the Siloam Youth Against Poor Gladys with the tent that was given to her by the municipality. She Crime movement were busy assisting the family in is now using it as roofing for her collapsed one-roomed house. erecting the tent and cleaning the surroundings. “Life has not been good to me, my son. I have been suffering most of my life, and when democracy dawned, I thought life would change for the better. I am now hopeless, and with my health deteriorating every day, I wonder if I will ever reap the fruits of our hard-earned democracy in my lifetime,” she said. She said she had informed the local structures about her plight, but so far no help had come forth. "I do not want luxury. I just need shelter. If only I can get two rooms, even if they are made from mud bricks, I will be the happiest person on earth,” she said, with pain written on her face. The councillor for Ward 27 in Thulamela, Cllr Livhuwani Maduse, said they knew about the plight of the granny. "We visited her not long ago and found that her situation was bad. Her one room had fallen in, but we provided her with food parcels and a tent as a temporary measure. We are making an appeal to all businesspeople who can help to please extend a helping hand to rescue the old woman from her misery," he said. Those wishing to help can do so by contacting Poverty is evident all over her surroundings. Here she is preparing a him at 072 318 3320 or calling her on 071 505 meal for herself and her children. 9468.

Zambian poacher killed at Beit Bridge A 50-year-old suspected Zambian poacher was shot dead during a shoot-out by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZPWMA) rangers at a game reserve outside Beit Bridge on Saturday. The ZPWMA spokesperson, Ms Carol Washaya-Moyo, said the man was shot dead at Bimbi Game Reserve by a group of about rangers who were following the spoor of alleged poachers. She said the man was the second

to be shot in the space of a week by park rangers as the authority intensifies its war against poaching. “The following were recovered at the scene of the shoot-out: 14 pairs of ivory tusks, a cell phone with two Zambian cell phone network cards and cooking pots,” said Washaya-Moyo. “In less than a week, a total of 36 elephant tusks have been recovered, as well as 67 rounds of ammunition, an AK47-rifle, a .375-rifle and one round,” she added. “The authority wants

Chingandu, believed to be in his 30s, is in intensive care at a local hospital.

Suspected Moletjie serial rapist arrested After seven years of intensive investigations, the long arm of the law finally caught up with an alleged serial rapist, who has been terrorising the community of Moletjie outside Seshego and surrounding homesteads. The 40-year-old suspect has been on the police’s wanted list for a series of rape cases and murder since 2005. According to the police spokesperson for Limpopo, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, the suspect specifically targeted women who lived alone and before striking studied their movements. “The suspect would break into their houses through windows or doors, threaten victims with either a knife or a firearm before raping them. With the results from forensics confirming the samples from 29 cases to be of the same suspect, it became evident that there was a serial rapist on the loose,” he said. Mulaudzi said bloodstains found on two separate crime scenes linked the suspect with the murder of a 14-year-old girl as well as an elderly woman aged 72. The suspect, a married father of six, will soon appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court, facing 29 charges of rape and two of murder. Mulaudzi said police will vehemently oppose bail for the suspect.

Two warring church leaders reconcile A 10-year-old power struggle that tore the Calvary Christian Church at Tshaulu apart is finally over. The war, which had claimed a lot of casualties and caused a lot of pain and heartache between the two leaders and their followers, had a happy ending at the weekend when the two smoked the peace pipe and put the past behind them. The two, Pastors Joseph Nemutanzhela (80) and Samuel Khumela (63), both of Tshaulu and members of the Calvary Christian Church at Tshaulu, went their separate ways after misunderstandings in the church and each went away with his own followers. The two finally came to their senses after Calvary Christian Church pastor David Mufamadi brokered peace between them. Their coming together was formalised when a big celebration was held at one of the two churches in the village. During the emotional reunion, the two were seen hugging each other and were close to tears with

joy. Those who attended and were witnesses included, among others, the local traditional leader, Chief Ntsedzeni Bohwana, Tshaulu Pastors Forum executive member Dr Joseph Mutambedzo, and Dr Maxwell Masakona, founder and head of Calvary Christian Church, who also gave a fitting sermon. There were also pastors from Pretoria and Nzhelele, which are also branches of the Calvary family. In his testimony to the church, Nemutanzhela said it had been a long and haunting 10-year experience for him after parting ways with Khumela. “Apart from being a fellow congregant, Khumela is my relative and when we met, I did not know what to say to him. I became very lonely when I thought of the good old days we worked together as servants of God,” he said. Nemutanzhela said the division was also affecting his health and he could not bear it any longer. “Besides being a burden to ourselves, we were

giving Pastor Mufamadi sleepless nights. He had to visit my church the other weekend and visited Khumela’s church the next. We are just happy that he did not lose faith that one day we would reconcile. This is God’s victory and miracle. Here we are together again, and we just pray and wish that this will be a lesson to others,” he said. Khumela said he had God to thank for visiting their hearts and giving them a chance to repent and swallow their pride in order to forgive each other. “Our separation did not work to our advantage. We were blocking the way for God’s people, and I am sure we were going to be judged for having put God’s work in disrepute,” he said. Dr Maxwell Masakona, founder and head of Calvary, said the reunion signalled a year of good things for the church. “It could not have happened in any other year, but waited for 2012. This is a year of comfort, victory and great things for the church,” he said.

Moment of truth: Mr Samuel Khumela and Pastor Joseph Nemutanzhela shed tears of joy while hugging each other during the reunion. Witnessing the historic moment are Chief Ntsedzeni Bohwana (traditional attire), Dr Maxwell Masakona, Dr Joseph Mutambedzo and Pastors David Mufamadi and Morongoa Masakona.

Pupils raise funds for their poor friends Where else in the country would you find pupils who still depend on their parents for all their educational needs but also help other poor and needy pupils? At the rural Thengwe High School near Mutale, there are pupils who felt the need to share the little they have with others. “We discovered that there are poor and needy pupils among us through the Learners Christian Movement (LCM). We started to raise funds among ourselves and bought school uniforms and food parcels for the needy pupils,” said Salefu Rasalanavho, chairperson of the Thengwe High School LCM. Rasalanavho, who is still

young himself, said winter was approaching and their friends without shoes and jerseys were suffering. “During the Easter holidays, we distributed food parcels to the poor and needy learners, so that they could enjoy the holidays like others. We are not working; we are pupils like they are, but we want to raise some funds to help them,” added Rasalanavho. He said by donating food parcels and uniforms to poor and needy students, they created a feeling of unity at the school. The principal, Mr Nkhangweni Nemudzivhadi, applauded the ideas from the pupils to help others. “Some of the poor

pupils have to travel to and from school on foot every day and the donation of shoes will help meet some of their needs.” One of the 31 beneficiaries of a school uniform, young Ashley Tshikombe, was over the moon to receive a uniform. “Now I will focus on the school lessons, instead of thinking about my poor family situation. It is wintertime, and without school shoes and a jersey one cannot survive,” said Tshikombe (14). She is a Grade 8 pupil and said her father had passed away and her unemployed mother was struggling to maintain her and the 12 other members of the family with her children’s grant.

Candle fire leaves single mom homeless A single mother of two is homeless after a fire destroyed her house. Tshifhiwa Makhoshi (35), of Tshiseluselu in the Khubvi area, was on her way to work when she received a call from a neighbour, who told her that her six-roomed house was burning. Makhoshi works for an NGO, Gundo Community. She said it felt as if she was dreaming when she arrived at home to see that the house that had taken her three years to build

was destroyed in a few minutes. The unfortunate incident happened last Wednesday morning. Makhoshi believes the fire was caused by a candle that was left burning by her children, when they left for school at around 05:45. The damaged caused to the furniture and other belongings is estimated to R70 000, while the damage caused to the building is estimated to be R100 000. Makhoshi said she could not believe that she was homeless. “When I

left for work this morning, I was a proud owner of six-roomed house. Now I am homeless. It is hard to believe that I have nothing, not even clothes or groceries. It is painful, but God is the only one who knows why it happened to me,” said Makhoshi, a devoted Christian. Makhoshi moved into her new house barely a year ago. She says she will be forced to go back to her mother’s place, Khubvi, where she will squat with her children. “We have been waiting for electricity for too long in this area. If Eskom had kept its promise of electrifying our houses by April last year, I would still be living in my house now,” she added. At the time of going to press, Makhoshi was receiving support from sympathetic community members in the form of Mr Philemon Mdaka. groceries and blankets.

“I always work for unity in ANC” “I always work for unity in the ANC,” said the former regional chairperson of the ANC in Vhembe, Mr Philemon Mdaka. Mdaka, who was regional chairperson of the ANC for three terms and a former executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, reacted to a report in last week’s edition of Limpopo Mirror regarding the recent elective conference of the ANC. In the report it was stated that Mdaka is a former member of Ximoko xa Rixaka and an anonymous source accused him of “causing division in the party through his tribalistic leadership style.” Mdaka vehemently denied that he was ever a member of Ximoko and said the aim of the report was to tarnish his image and his history. “How can I promote tribalism if I was never part of the bantustan system? My record shows that I was always loyal towards the party and that I work tireless for development in the Vhembe area,” he added.

Centre contributes significantly to town The managing director of South African Custodial Management, Mr Pieter Jordaan, said the Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Centre contributed significantly to the Makhado area. During an event marking the 10th year of operations of the correctional centre, Jordaan said the negotiations for the project took about four years and it took 316 working days to build the

prison. It took 200 days to fully occupy the prison, he said. According to Jordaan, from 1 March 2011 to the end of February 2012, the project contributed R 100 million rand in salaries to previously disadvantaged persons, while R70 million rand has been spent on services and products. “This excludes the R10 million that was spent on utilities,” he said.

He added that the shareholders of the company required that they meet three strategic objectives: service excellence in all service lines; good client relations based on honesty, knowledge, dependability and flexibility, and to grow the business. He thanks the company’s partners and friends in town for the important role that they play in the project.

The acting executive mayor of the Vhembe District, Cllr Faith Chauke, has urged communities in 13 villages that depend on the Shakadza Clinic for health care to know their status by testing themselves for TB and HIV/Aids. The call came after the local clinic's management realised that the infection-rate statistics of TB and HIV/Aids were increasing dramatically. Chauke was speaking during a TB, HIV/Aids and crime-awareness campaign

held at the Shakadza Clinic last Thursday. “We are pleased to learn that communities have asked the district municipality to organise an awareness day for TB and HIV/Aids, a move to educate them about the dangers of the diseases,” said Chauke. “Communities should understand that the Aids epidemic is not only a challenge to the Department of Health alone. We have to work together as a collective leadership to defeat the scourge. TB

and HIV/Aids can be defeated by individuals' taking responsibility for their own lives and the lives of those around them,” Chauke said. Mr Joseph Netshisaulu, chairperson of the Shakadza Clinic Committee, said he was worried about the high infection rate at Shakadza Clinic. According to Netshisaulu, they hope to reduce the infections of HIV/Aids and TB in local communities through awareness campaign such as these.

By Mashudu Netsianda

Why is your life cover so important? Most people go through life as if they will live forever … possibly because our own mortality isn’t something we relish thinking about. While we can get away with this in the care-free years of childhood, neglecting the harsh realities of life and death in our financial planning as adults can, however, have dire consequences, says Willem Barnard, Business Manager Sanlam Limpopo. Why life cover? Live cover is probably the most intangible of all insurance products. “Most people find it difficult to accept and understand the advantage of paying for something which doesn’t offer any immediate benefit”, says Willem. “But think about it for a second and consider the implications: what will happen if you die tomorrow? Who will pay your outstanding debts? Who will take care of your parents, or your spouse and children – not only in the short term, but also in the years to come? How will your family manage without your monthly income? If you still have mortgage debt, will your family be able to keep property, or will they end up without a roof over their heads in their time of bereavement? Will there be enough cash to cover expenses like the funeral, executor’s fees and estate duty? "If you have a mortgage or car debt, are responsible for young children or have a stake in a business, taking out life cover can help ensure that your loved ones and/or dependants are not crippled by your financial obligations and that they can settle your debt and maintain their existing lifestyle. Asking a financial adviser to help you with a comprehensive financial analysis will give you a good idea of how much cover you need." What is disability cover? Your biggest asset is your ability to earn an income. This is why it is critically important to protect it. If you should suffer a disability, whether temporary or permanent, it can have serious consequences for your finances, says Willem. According to the Medical Research Council, 150 000 South Africans are severely injured in motor vehicle

accidents every year. What if you become one of those victims? How will your inability to continue working affect you and your family financially? About dread disease cover Many people make the mistake of thinking that a medical aid is sufficient provision when it comes to illness and hospitalisation. What they don’t realise, says Willem, is that a serious disease or trauma may not be covered by their medical aid, and even if covered, the cost in the long run may far exceed their medical aid benefits. Most medical aid schemes also do not make provision for follow-up care at home or at a suitable institution. To make things worse, you may also not be able to earn an income for a while after suffering such a crisis, or exhaust your paid sick leave. “With dread disease cover, you have the assurance that should you be diagnosed with a dread disease, you will have the necessary funds to protect your income and to cover medical or other costs that may arise.” A tragic life event such as death or disability is one of the most traumatic things people will have to deal with in their lifetime. Spending an hour or two with a financial adviser to make sure that you are adequately covered will ensure that worrying about money doesn’t become part of your burden. Article supplied by Sanlam. Boy (12) killed in donkey cart accident A 12-year-old boy from Dombodema village outside Beit Bridge died when a donkey cart he was travelling in hit a stump and overturned along the Dombodema-Plumtree road. The local police spokesperson, Insp Tafanana Dzirutwe, said the incident occurred on

Monday at about 09:00, roughly 5km outside Dombodema. The boy, Gerald Dube, was travelling in the cart, driven by his 10-year-old cousin. “It looks as if, on approaching the 5km peg, the boy failed to control the donkeys, resulting in the cart's veering off the road and hitting a stump; it overturned. In the

process, Gerald was thrown out of the speeding cart, hit its edge and died instantly due to injuries he sustained,” Dzirutwe said. The dead boy’s cousin escaped unhurt. Recently, a 90-year-old local woman from the neighbouring Silalatshani village was fatally hit by a donkey cart.

“We need skills to run the economy” The youth in Vhembe have appealed to government to equip them with the necessary skills in order for them to run the economy. This was one of their recommendations during the Vhembe Youth Parliament (VYP) held at the Makwarela Community Hall last Friday. According to the VYP secretary, Mashudu Tshisikule, the purpose of the event was to debate contemporary issues facing young South Africans and also to create an opportunity for the youth to engage with local, provincial and national government, as well as youth structures such as the National Youth Develop-

ment Agency. During the sitting, the consultative forums agreed that young people were sidelined in the economic mainstream. Unemployment was identified as one of the biggest challenges, which leads to the youth’s involvement in criminal activities. “Economic freedom can be attained through the nationalisation of some of the economic sectors,” the VYP said. Another resolution was that young people need an education system that can instill class consciousness and gender equality. Government should establish cooperatives at local level, they said.

The VYP said there was a need for quality education in order for the youth to produce good results. “In most cases, young people acquired qualifications which did not meet the demands of the market. Government should consider a wage subsidy to address the lack of education and unemployment in young people,” they said. The VYP said there should be a balance between theory and practical work in order for skills development to be improved. They also said internship and learnership should prepare young people for entering the labour market and not just to get practical experience.

R100 000 bonus to complete education A woman in Ngulumbi, a deep rural village in Thulamela, who has been unable to complete her education because of a lack of money, will now be able to complete it, thanks to the R100 000 she has won from MTN. Ms Mukundiwa Hope Matshivha (34) was presented with the cheque over the weekend, after winning the Easter Promo Competition, which is run to coincide with the Zion Christian Church’s annual pilgrimage to Moria. “I have dropped out of

my electric engineering course at the Vhembe FET because of a lack of money. With the money I will be able to continue next year,” said the married mother of three, who added that God had changed her life in a big way. She says she will be an electrical engineer. “My husband, who is a soldier, brought home the advert for the competition and I bought the starter pack at Pep stores in Thohoyandou. God saw my need because, after spending only R10, I have

won the money that will change my life,” she said. The official handover event was attended by representatives of different structures in the village. Ms Mary-Jane Mokatse, regional head of MTN in Limpopo, said the competition was a way of the company’s ploughing back to the community by rewarding loyal customers. She says they have been encouraged to do more for the community as a result of the constructive way in which Matshivha plans to use her money.

Makoya Multi Media to organise show The Makhado Municipality has decided to appoint Makoya Multi Media to organise the annual Makhado Show. The decision follows months of uncertainty about whether the show would be held this year and who would be tasked with the responsibility to organise it. According to Makoya’s managing director, Mr Vhahangwele Nicholas Netshifhefhe, his company would like to host a show that is inclusive in terms of race,

religion and ethnicity. “We would like to uplift the economy of the town by engaging people from rural surrounding communities in terms of generating income through the show,” he said. Netshifhefhe said that his company understood the dynamics of the local show and that they were not going to change much but transform it to fit in the 21st century. He said that the show would create a networking platform for aspiring entrepreneurs and

would be a fun-filled event for the whole family this year. “We would like to localize the event by giving priority to locals, ranging from artists to businessmen and -women and also use drawcards,” he said. The show is to be hosted at the end of July at a date still to be announced. “We will spice up the event with give-aways, traditional performances, international, national and local artists,” concluded Netshifhefhe.

Macadamia research symposium in KZN The Southern African Macadamia Growers’ Association (SAMAC) will host its annual Macadamia Research Symposium this year at the Paddock Farmers Club in Paddock, KZN. This event usually draws considerable local and international interest. The technical manager and research coordinator of SAMAC, Mr Gerhard Nortjé, says the symposium serves as a forum for the sharing of research carried out in orchard practices, pest and disease management and the maintenance of nut quality

after harvest. “Researchers, growers and processors will get great value from the information shared, but will also establish valuable networks,” he adds. Some of the SAMAC-funded research projects that will be presented at the symposium are: The Macadamia Stinkbug Control Programme-integrated management of stinkbugs; Determination of appropriate storage protocols for macadamia kernel and development of guidelines for setting sell-by dates; a pilot study to investigate the potential importance of bats as biocontrol

agents suppressing nocturnal flying pests in macadamia orchards as well as a study to verify and determine better irrigation norms and crop factors for better irrigation scheduling. Nortjé adds that, due to the fact that it is a research symposium, the focus will be on technical research. “The research projects are selected annually with the idea of addressing the needs of growers on the production of macadamias, but also to be in line with current and future market needs of the Southern African Macadamia Industry,” he says.

14-1 Victory for Mighty FC Not only did Mighty FC manage to collect maximum points from their Vodacom Promotional League match against The Dolphins at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Saturday, but they also registered a controversial score. The score was 14-1 for Mighty FC when the referee blew the final whistle, a score which none of the soccer fanatics which Limpopo Mirror has interviewed could believe. When asked to comment on the issue, the league coordinator, Mr Jabulani Ndove, could only say that the report from the match officials confirmed the score as such. According to Ndove, his office relies on the referee’s report, which in

this instance does not depict anything sinister in the game, emphasizing that all goals were legitimate. Giyani Hotspurs managed to go back home with a full compliment of points, despite the fact that they were playing away from home. They beat Modimolle Aces 4-1 in Modimolle. Fanang Diatla gave away league points to Basel FC, when they lost 0-2. Lephalale Young Killers could not stop Magezi FC from snatching a 1-0 victory and Winners Park beat Dinare FC 2-0 in Modimolle. Phungo All Stars pushed Rospa All Stars deep into the danger zone for relegation, following their 2-1 victory at the Eltivillas grounds.

With his energetic dance moves, complemented by his backers and dancers, Lufuno kept lovers of his music on their toes from the first song till the last performance. NOTIFICATION IN TERMS OF SECTION 27(8) (b) and (8) (c) OF THE NATIONAL HERITAGE RESOURCES ACT, NO 25 OF 1999 The South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) is entrusted in terms of section 27(5) of the National Heritage Resources Act, No 25 of 1999 (the Act) (NHRA) to declare a place with qualities so exceptional that it is of special national significance, to be a national heritage site. It is the intention of SAHRA to declare Lake Fundudzi Cultural Landscape as a national heritage site. Before SAHRA may declare a place to be a national heritage site, it must: In terms of section 27(8)(b) of the NHRA, notify the occupier and any other person with a registered interest in the property; In terms of section 27(8)(c) of the NHRA, inform all conservation bodies which have, in terms of section 25(1)(b), registered their interest in a particular heritage site. The purpose of this advertisement is to broaden the scope and to afford all interested and affected parties of Farm 1341 the opportunity, in accordance with section 27(8)(b)(c), to consider and comment on the proposed notification, the draft contents of which appear below. DECLARATION OF LAKE FUNDUDZI CULTURAL LANDSCAPE AS A NATIONAL HERITAGE SITE By virtue of the powers vested in the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) in terms of section 27(5) of the National Heritage Resources Act, No 25 of 1999 (the Act), SAHRA hereby notifies all interested and affected parties of its intent to declare Lake Fundudzi Cultural Landscape as A NATIONAL HERITAGE SITE. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE The Lake Fundudzi Cultural Landscape is significant because of its idyllic setting, rich history associated with living and sacred heritage. It is a distinctive cultural and natural environment, which remains untouched, unaltered and is authentic in its rural simplicity. Lake Fundudzi is unique because it is the only natural inland lake of Southern Africa. Its variable water level is dependent on the inflow of three rivers from a catchment of 6000 ha, the Mutale or Mavhidzelele, Godoni or Tshidumbi or Govha and Muiladi Rivers. The lake is the focus of cultural ceremonies, traditions and rituals for the Vhavenda tribe, amongst them the Vhatavhatsindi clan in particular. It is their burial site therefore it has been venerated as a sacred place because it is the home of ancestral spirit of Vhatavhatsindi people (Stayt 1968). The Vhatavhatsindi people discovered the lake, dating back to the period when their ancestors moved into the present Venda from Zimbabwe. The name “Fundudzi” resulted from a cultural ritual to be observed by anyone approaching the Lake for the first time. Any person visiting the Lake has to bow in a special way “kodola”. The Lake is therefore called “Dzivha Nkodo” the lake were you show respect by bending and remove a hair from your head which is then thrown into the water as a way of saying to the ancestors, we are here. The following elements of living heritage are conducted at the lake and centre on the origin and the special character of the lake and its water Thevhula (annual thanksgiving ritual) and Tshiswavhathu (this is a practice that is conducted after the burial of the members of the royal family). DESCRIPTION The following property falls within the protected area:

Saul Nephawe, accompanied by African Sound, ascended the stage and created quite a stir with his unique dance styles and singing. When asked why the album was not launched in Gauteng where he is now based, Lufuno was quick to point out that this will always be his home, despite the fame and recognition he is getting outside Limpopo. Dagada said he decided to use raw talent to give them exposure that they would otherwise not get. “Shakes is talented, and I wanted to show people that God can use any person, irrespective of disability. He has proved beyond any doubt that he is capable,” he said. He said his long-term plan was to take his music throughout the country. “This is not music confined to Limpopo. We have proved that it is appreciated everywhere. We will soon be hitting the road Lufuno Dagada kneels down before handing his to promote the album all over the debut solo live recording to his father, Pastor Isaac country,” he said. Ray Pillars and Zero Fake promoted to Vodacom league Ray Pillars Football Club and Baobab Zero Fake FC will be campaigning in the Vodacom Promotional League when the activities for the new season start in September. They finished the SAB inter-regional play-offs in the first and second place respectively. The promotional play-off matches were played at the Makwarela Stadium over the past weekend. Ray Pillars and Zero Fake finished the two-day tournament with seven points each, with Pillars leading the pack by virtue of having a good goal

difference. City Pillars were presented with a floating trophy at the end of the tournament. City Pillars beat Tshifhire Northern Brothers 3-0, Mosesetjane All Stars 4-1, drew 1-1 with Baobab Zero Fake and lost 0-1 to RT Giant Killers to qualify for promotion. Zero Fake’s way to the Vodacom Promotional League went via RT Giant Killers, whom they walloped 5-0. Their second victory was against Mosesetjane All Stars, whom they beat 2-1 while they drew

1-1 with City Pillars and lost 2-4 to Tshifhire Northern Brothers. Tshifhire Northern Brothers finished the tournament in third position with 6 points. RT Giant Killers collected the same number of points in the tournament but they finished the event in the fifth spot because of goal difference. Mosesetjalene All Stars collected just three points in the tournament. The only match they won was against Tshifhire Northern Brothers, whom they beat 2-1.

Defeat for Rospa Phungo All Stars were too good for Rospa United in their Vodacom League match, when they beat them 2-1 at the Eltivillas grounds on Saturday. There was a spirit of commitment from both sides throughout the game. Rospa were intimidated by the yellow card that was flashed to their defender, Shonisani Leaka, in the 14th minute. Ivan Mahangwahaya of Stars scored after a scramble within the box in the 20th minute. The score was 1-0 when the referee, Dion Mpumba, blew the half-time whistle. The second half started at a snail's pace, with both teams struggling to penetrate each other’s defence. Rospa pressed hard in their search for goals. Stars gained momentum as the game progressed. It was in the 49th minute when their lethal striker, Lutendo Mulaudzi, missed a fortune. He shot wide with the keeper, Mxolisi Ncube, well beaten. Rospa did not lose their fighting spirit although one of their key players, Meshack Maphangule, was red-carded. Stars introduced the speedy Justice Rasebotse for Charles Melenyane. The introduction of Justice was a clever move; he was everywhere, distributing dangerous passes. The home team would have had only themselves to blame had they lost the match. They abused countless scoring opportunities in the second half. Dion Phiri unleashed prematurely instead of moving a few steps towards the keeper. Justice Rasebotse scored his team’s second goal when he sent a rocket into the roof of the net. Rospa did not press the panic button, despite the fact that their fans were becoming impatient. Their only goal of came in the 85th minute. Happy Mahuntshi scored after a scramble in the box.

Brothers start with a bang, but failed to qualify for Vodacom Although they did not qualify for promotion at the end of the tournament, Tshifhire Northern Brothers started the SAB inter-regional playoffs with a bang. They beat their Mopani District counterparts, Baobab Zero Fake, 4-2 at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday. Northern Brothers were by far the better side when it came to ball possession. They scored their first goal in the 18th minute. Freedom Letsekga finished off a rebound after the keeper, Steven Ndovela, mishandled the ball, to give his side a 1-0 lead at half time.

Northern Brothers continued to dominate proceedings in the last half. Evans Mosipi headed home, following a corner kick that was taken by Cassius Ramaremela in the 54th minute. The hosts put the matters beyond doubt six minutes thereafter. Edgar Molewa went loose from the right corner and unleashed a ground cutter from inside the box to make it 3-0. Zero Fake were awarded a penalty after Funzani Musenwa handled the ball within the box. Nicholas Sibanda caused an upset by shooting wide from the spot. Zero Fake pulled one back through Tommy

Mandlazi. He scored from the corner kick and the ball crossed the goal line untouched. They were awarded another penalty after Cassius Ramaremela handled within the box. Tommu Mandlazi made no mistake from the penalty spot. Things turned against Zero Fake were when their defender, Nicholas Sibanda, handled the ball within his own danger area. That was a clear penalty for Brothers. Sibanda was given his marching orders, following a continued argument with the referee. Abel Nkhumeleni scored to bring the full-time score to 4-2.

Points for Liverpool Although Tshikhwani Stone Breakers dominated the entire game, they finally had to suffer the pain of losing their Limpopo Dairy League match 2-0 against Zamenkomste Liverpool at Zamenkomste on Sunday. The game was characterised by rough play and the referee flashed four yellow cards in the first half. The home side blew the trumpet when the game was 25 minutes old. Their opening goal was scored by Tumelo Sinugo. He finished off a rebound after Rudzuni Sikita tried his luck from the edge of the box. The score was 1-0 at half time. Realising that their diminutive striker Londolani Nevari's fighting spirit was fading with time, Breakers replaced him with Thabiso Mukondeleli in the 60th minute. Khakhu Tshilinga was given his marching orders for using abusive language towards the referee. A defender of the visitors, Tendani Davhana, handled the ball inside his penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot. Musandiwa Makhuja scored from the spot to make the score 2-1.

Dynamos in boardroom Hlungwane best ref in PSL battle for NFD status Dynamos are currently in a boardroom battle in a bid to reclaim their National First Division status. This after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) officially announced last week that the pride of Giyani, together with Atlie FC, have been relegated to the Vodacom Promotional League. Two days after the announcement, Dynamos and Blackburn Rovers sent complaints to the league. Both Dynamos and Blackburn Rovers are complaining about the alleged improper registration of players by certain teams. According to the spokesperson for the PSL, Mr Altaaf Kazi, Rovers’ complaint has to do with a player of Chippa United, who could not be named.

Neither Kazi nor the chairman of Dynamos, Mr Patrick Malabela, was prepared to comment on the contents of the complaint from Dynamos. A source close to the club has, however, told Limpopo Mirror that Dynamos’ complaint is about a player of Bay United and the other one of Carara Kicks, who they allege are not properly registered with their respective teams. Realising that the league was about to complicate things by allowing the promotional playoff matches to go on before their complaints could be entertained, Dynamos and Blackburn Rovers threatened to take legal action against the league. That prompted the league to postpone the promotional play-off matches indefinitely. One match had already been played when the league postponed the matches. Santos beat Thanda Zulu 1-0 at the Tel: (015) 516 5175/6/7 Fax: (015) 516 1012 Royal Richards Bay Stadium www.ayobmotors.co.za last Wednesday afternoon. 2009 Nissan Livina 1.6 XGear 2005 VW Polo 1.4 129 414km If found guilty, Bay 69 090km United will forfeit about 12 points and thereby drop to the relegation zone, while at the same time giving Dynamos a chance to move up on the log. During his earlier days, Hlungwane officiated in the Great Northern East Province (now Safa Vhembe) with the likes of Tshikonelo Nekhubvi, Israel Maphaha, Philip Tinyani and Rudzani Mulaudzi. He obtained a sport leader certificate from the National Sport Council in 1997 and a coaching certificate from Safa in 1998. In 2003, he qualified as a referee for the high national certificate for theory soccer laws. On Sunday evening, Hlungwani received a cheque of R50 000 as Referee of the Year. “I’m over the moon. As a FIFA/CAF referee, my games will be monitored and it is imperative for me to maintain consistency throughout all the matches,” he said.
