Three of the deceased, Malima, Machaba and Masipa, will be buried on Saturday at cemeteries in different villages. Mudau will be buried on Friday (today) at Midoroni. The services will start at 06:00.

Thulamela councillor dies The spokesperson for the Thulamela municipality, Nndwamato Tshiila, said Cllr Ramanala had been born and raised at Sinthumule, at Ha-Ravele village. “She was a selfless person who knew that community development requires involvement of all of us and she participated in various community-based structures, such as the Maniini Block K Civic Association, Kudide oldaged home, Block K Community Policing Forum and the neighbourhood watch. Community building was her priority. Many orphans were helped by her donating food and uniforms to needy families. She knocked on many business doors, approaching donors to assist in her calling to support the needy and to make sure that there were no children who couldn’t go to school because of no uniforms nor to sleep without eating,” said Tshiila.

Before becoming a ward councillor, Ramanala worked for the Thulamela Municipality. She was also a member of the SA Homeless People Federation, founded

by Cde Maria Mamedzi in 1998. Tshiila said that Ramanala had cut her political teeth at an early age when it had not been fashionable to do so and when doing so had been risky.

She participated in various political structures and occupied positions of leadership. Among others she served as a regional executive committee member of the ANCWL’s Vhembe Region between 2006 and 2008. She was a member of the Luludi ANC Branch until it was divided into four branches (Nandoni, Mutsindo, Vuledzani Bulala and Mvudi). In 2005, she was part of the first leadership of the newly formed Vuledzani Bulala Branch.

She also assisted in the establishment of the ANCWL in the branch and was elected the chairperson of the ANCWL. She will be buried on Saturday (tomorrow), with the funeral ceremony starting at Maniini Block K at 6: 30, from where it will move to Ha-Ravele in Sinthumule here she will be buried.

By Silas Nduvheni Thulamela Municipality is in mourning after the passing away of one of its dedicated councillors, Maria Vhengani Ramanala of Maniini village near Thohoyandou. Cllr Ramanala (57), the ward 41 councillor, died peacefully in her house on Thursday, 24 October, after a long illness.

The mayor of Thulamela, Cllr Avhashoni Tshifhango, said Cllr Ramanala had been a dedicated and hardworking councillor. “It will be difficult for the municipality and community at large to forget her dedication in helping and resolving disputes in her ward,” said Tshifhango.

Take water services away from VDM and give it back to municipalities

By Bernard Chiguvare Pressure is mounting on the government to remove the function of the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) to deliver water and sanitation services and rather make this the responsibility of local municipalities.

On Thursday, 24 October, a delegation from the select committee on Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation visited the Makhado Municipality. The committee is headed by Mr Thamsanqa Dodovu. The purpose of the visit was to interact with internal and external stakeholders of the municipalities. The committee also needs to monitor the progress on the audit-outcome action plans developed by the district and local municipalities in respect of the 2017/18 municipal audits.

own water authority, because if any water problems arise, residents visit us,” said Mr Freddy Tshivhengwa, municipal manager of the Makhado Municipality. He argued that it would be better if the responsibility for providing water and sanitation services reverted back to the local municipality.

Tshivhengwa also highlighted some of the problems that they experience, among others the vandalization of infrastructure. He said that even though boreholes had been drilled around the Makhado area, residents vandalised the structures. He also called on the relevant authorities to speed up of the construction of the pipelines from the Nandoni dam, because this would bring relief to many areas.

Mr Pat Hlungwani from the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) supported the transfer of functions from the VDM to Makhado. He said that his association was in the process of lobbying on behalf of the Makhado Municipality that it should have its own water authority.

VBS Mutual liquidator schedules a second meeting of creditors Notice A meeting of VBS Mutual Bank’s creditors is scheduled to take place in Polokwane on Friday, 8 November. It is important that creditors, especially those who are owed more than R100 000 by the bank, attend the meeting or submit the necessary forms to the Master of the High Court.

The bank’s liquidator, Mr Anoosh Rooplal, announced on 18 October that the second meeting of creditors is scheduled for 8 November. It will start at 10:00 at the Master of the High Court’s offices in Polokwane.

“The meeting of creditors will provide an opportunity for all creditors to lodge their claims for proof in the insolvent estate of VBS Mutual Bank,” said Ms Louise Brugman, spokesperson for the liquidator.

depositors are also reminded that they still have the option to claim, up to a maximum of R100 000, at Nedbank in terms of the agreement reached with the South African Reserve Bank. Retail deposits are individuals, burial societies, stokvels and savings clubs who deposited their money with VBS. “Any creditors whose VBS funds exceeded the R100 000 guaranteed by National Treasury and who have claimed from Nedbank, will have the opportunity to prove their outstanding claims with the Master of the High Court,” said Brugman.

Given that the claim forms need to be carefully completed and complied with, the two remaining branches of VBS in Makhado and Thohoyandou will have a team of people available to assist retail depositors to fill out the required forms from 28 October until 2 November.

Anoosh Rooplal emphasized that admitting valid claims to the Master of the High Court is part of the insolvency process that will give retail depositors an opportunity to be counted as valid claimants of the Bank. “There is, however, no certainty that claims will be accepted by the Master nor that any

amount of their claim will eventually be available to claimants. It merely proves who the legal claimants are of the bank,” he said.

“It is, however, an important aspect and that is why we took the decision to go beyond the Insolvency act requirements and assist the depositors to provide and fill in their claim forms,” said Rooplal.

Burning Doctor maintains that he was born a musician because, as far as he can remember, he started singing in local choirs and the church’s band at a very young age.

New Xitsonga poets celebrate International Year of Indigenous Languages in style

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho As part of the celebration of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages, as declared by the United Nations, a group of six young, up-andcoming poets have put together an anthology of poems entitled I ndlopfu ya hina.

The title can be literally translated as “It is our elephant”.

Poets featured in the anthology are Miyelani Anthonia Hlungwani, Msengi Patrick Khosa, Matimba Elliot Miyambo, Hluvukani Honours Mashimbye, Javulani Collen Chauke and Vongani Landro Mathebula.

The authors employ strategies that help in creating mental pictures, such as metaphors, similes, sarcasm, personification and hyperbole. “Again, the authors use the standardised words and the new spelling and orthography rules recommended by the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) in line with Xitsonga,” he said.

Another poet, Javulani Collen Chauke, said: “Our core aim as poets is very explicit. Let's encourage the culture of reading, developing and preserving our indigenous languages, because they describe who we are as a people.”

Publisher Themba Patrick Magaisa, well known as TP Magaisa in his writings, said that the anthology was a must-have for all those who wanted to enjoy the richness of the Xitsonga language.

“This anthology is one of the best publications that I am continuing to issue for and by young authors,” he said. “The future looks bright to all the poets who contributed to this anthology.”

Art & Entertainment Ras Willie releases his debut reggae album “This is the type of the music that the whole world has been waiting for,” was the reaction of reggae music lover Phillip Tshililo after listening to the newly released debut album of Ras Willie (real name Wilson Dzebu) that hit the shelves last Friday.

The album, entitled Vhulunga Zwau (conserve your heritage), is a traditional reggae offering that is strongly based on the traditional beliefs, customs and stories of local communities passed through generations by word of mouth.

Dzebu, who hails from Makonde village outside Thohoyandou, said he decided to traditionalise local reggae music after realising that a huge gap existed in terms of linking the present, the future and the past lifestyles of the African people. “The album is rooted in tradition and aimed at conserving the history, customs and cultural beliefs of the local people.

A community that does not conserve its history and culture is doomed forever. That is why I decided to revolutionize the local reggae music fraternity by coming up with a unique type of music that will definitely last for decades,” he said.

The road for Ras Willie to get where he is today has been a long and winding one. “I started playing music at the age of eight with the late Azwivhavhi Ndou during the heydays of the now-defunct Thinawanga Band. For many years, I was a keyboard and bass guitarist for

reggae legend Shufflers Ragimana, but because of my tight schedule, I had to shelve my music career for over 20 years.

However, the music bug continued to bite me until I went to the studio to record my debut album.”

Dzebu said he was delighted that the album was received with excitement by music lovers. “I can’t believe the massive support I’m receiving from all corners of the country. The album has sold more than 1 000 copies in the first three days of its release and it continues to sell like hot cakes.

There is surely a bright future in the music industry and I’m here to stay. I’m also pleased because the album is receiving massive airplay at various radio stations. The past week has been hectic because I have been moving from one radio station to another for interviews.

The plan is to host a big festival to launch the album.”

Folklore songs that are making the album unique include Mmbebeda, Funguvhu, Matho-

ra, Donngi yo fela u luga, Sendekela, Mutshavhona, Nwana nwananga, Magaraba, Ndi linde, Mueni and Zwahashu. The album was recorded, engineered and mastered by Godzilla de Legend at G Records, Musina. All vocals and instruments were played by Ras Willie except for lead guitar, which was done by Elton de Guitarist.

Ten of Limpopo’s most vibrant women given WODSA awards

Ten dynamic Limpopo women from different institutions were given awards by Women of Destiny South Africa (WODSA) during a special 10th anniversary celebration function held at Kone Village at Ha-Ramantsha on Saturday night.

Ms Naledi Senye, the founder of WODSA, said that women would continue to be the subject of ridicule and be exposed to poverty and abuse if they did not change their mindset. “It is all in the mind - your destiny, failures and achievements are all what you think, and you can decide to break free from the web of abuse and dependency,” she said.

“God brought you here for a purpose. You are the light of the world, and you could make a big difference in the community by just living exemplary lives. Many people would be lured to God’s fold by just looking at you,” she said. Senye added that women were failing today and became entangled in a web of poverty and abuse because they were not independent and could not provide for themselves and their families.

“God did not bring you into this world to be beggars but to be independent people with economic freedom. That would deliver you from abuse and exploitation and this can only be

achieved if women are united,” said Senye.

The guest speaker, Dr Dephney Mathebula, urged the recipients not to look down upon themselves but rather to see themselves as professional people in the community. “To the people who were honoured here today, we say that this is a launching pad for your careers.”

She also criticised women who frequent taverns and pubs, even though they have no money to procure beverages for themselves.

Mathebula encouraged women to start self-sustainable projects such as home gardens, which she said could be a source of food for their families and also provide an extra income. She issued a strong warning to community members who abuse women and children. “Any form of women and child abuse should immediately be reported to the police or community leaders.

One of the recipients of an award, the well-known pastor Violet Liremi, said the award would motivate her to work even harder in developing women. “I am so excited. I have (received) other awards, but this one is very special in that it is from a very distinguished institution like WODSA,” she said.

She urged local women to start doing things for them-

selves. “Women should stand up and do things that will change their lives. Gone are the days when women used to depend on men. It’s time to stand up for ourselves and change our lives for the better,” said Liremi.

Both Baloyi and Fhatuwani say that rainy days are a big challenge for them. Most of the stalls are not in good shape and when it rains there is very little shelter for them or their customers. “We need a decent place that can accommodate all weather,” says Baloyi.

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho A popular deejay at Vhembe FM, Munei Netshiozwi, describes himself as a 'born-free youth' whose worldview is that of youths who possess the ability to make things happen.

A resident of Tshitereke village outside Thohoyandou, Munei is known as Dj GiverGivero or The Most Trusted DJ to thousands of listeners out there, because of his ability to keep the ears of all the listeners glued to their radios.

“I was born in a family that loved music; the very family which made music its daily bread,” he said. “So, I loved music from an early age. I was also fortunate that my older brother owned a public address sound system which he normally hired out around the village, so I used it to experiment with sounds.”

However, his talent manifested after he had met DJ Giftero, who then mentored him in 2007. “He taught me how to master the skills of communicating with my fans through the beats,” he said. “Soon, with the skills coupled with talent, I was outsmarting most of upcoming deejays on my level as I was able to mix across genres with ease.”

Today, DJ GiverGivero works for Vhembe FM, where he presents a music slot between 18:00-19:00 on Fridays. “I am able to entertain music lovers right from the comfort zone of the studios at Vhembe FM,” he said.

Makhado still owed R62,73 million by VBS

By Bernard Chiguvare The Makhado Municipality still needs to recover more than R62,73 million of the R155 million unlawfully invested in the VBS Mutual Bank.

During a meeting of the select committee on Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation last week, municipal officials gave feedback on the financial situation of the municipality.

The committee, headed by Mr Thamsanqa Dodovu, visited Louis Trichardt last Thursday to interact with internal and external stakeholders. The committee also monitors the progress on the audit-outcome action plans developed

by the district and local municipalities in respect of the 2017/18 municipal audits.

Mr Freddy Tshivhengwa, municipal manager of the Makhado Municipality, said R62 734 416,06 of the VBS investment still needed to be recovered. These investments were made in contravention of the requirements of the Municipal Finance Management Act. Questions also arose as to what steps had been taken against the people responsible for the VBS investments.

According to the Makhado Municipality’s feedback report, the provincial forensic report recommended that disciplinary action be taken against the former municipal manager (MM), the former chief financial officer (CFO) and

two junior officials.

The former MM resigned on 11 June 2017, while the former CFO resigned on 31 August 2018. According to the municipal report, disciplinary action could not be taken against the senior officials since the two were no longer employees of the municipality.

Mr Dodovu suggested that cases be registered with the SAPS, rather than let the perpetrators off the hook.

The auditor-general in Limpopo also called on the Makhado Municipality to implement stringent daily and monthly controls over the recording, reconciling and reviewing of transactions and to provide training where a lack of skills exists.

Bishop Nevondwe of the AACC is no more

By Kaizer Nengovhela The community of Limpopo is mourning the sudden death of bishop Marubini Nevondwe (79) of the Agreement Apostolic Christian Church. He passed away at the Elim hospital last Wednesday morning after a long illness.

The family spokesperson, Ms Merium Nevondwe, said that the bishop had been a very solemn, restrained and dignified person. According to her he would always be remembered for his good work by his family, the church members and the community in which he had served for so many years. According to her, Nevondwe had left his mark through his leadership skills. “He was seen as a light to the family and the nation at large.

We are truly devastated, as we have lost a pillar of the family. Everyone looked up to him for advice,” she said.

The spokesperson for the Agree-

ment Apostolic Christian Church, Mr Nkhetheni Mashau, was at a loss for words. “This is a great loss not only for the church and the family, but for the whole community. To lose such an iconic leader at this time is painful. We are just praying that God gives us all comfort in this time of grief,” he said.

Mashau said that Nevondwe had done many things for his community. He helped poor people and he assisted many communities and learners at different schools. “We want the children of Nevondwe and pastors who served under him to continue helping the church to grow, as we don’t want the church to cease to operate because the founder is no more. He left us while we were still expecting many more things from him, as he was devoted to giving,” said Mashau.

Nevondwe will be buried on Saturday at the Ha-Mulima Pfananani church yard, starting at 06:00.

The role models included engineers, businessmen and medical doctors from rural villages around the area, and all had a similar story to tell. “One can succeed despite one’s background,” he said.

Katjipa encouraged the parents to cooperate with the Department of Education and other stakeholders for the benefit of education in the country. He said it was important to set realistic goals that could be achieved within a given period in life. “Failure does not necessarily mean that one has to stop pursuing your dreams,” he said.

Cllr Tebogo Mamorobela said the learners, parents and educators had a duty to see to it that the current situation improved and that the school’s name was held in high esteem.

According to the spokesperson of the organising committee for the tournament, Mr Takalani Rabali, the tournament is open to any team, irrespective of the place where they are based.

According to him, the first 32 teams to pay the R500 registration fee will partake in the tournament. He stressed the fact that registration will be done on a first-comefirst-served basis. The opening matches of the tournament will be staged at the Tshikombani Stadium in the Nzhelele Valley on Saturday, 14 December.

The semi-final matches will also be staged at the same venue on Sunday, 29

December, while the final is scheduled to take place at the Rabali Stadium on Wednesday, 1 January 2020.

According to Mr Rabali, this year’s champions will take home R15 000 and a floating trophy. The rules of the tournament require that the champions must donate R2 000 to a charity of their choice.

The runners-up will become R8 000 richer, while teams booted out of the tournament in the semi-final stage will each receive R3 000. Teams leaving the tournament in the quarter-final stage will each be presented with a consolation prize of R1 000.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO SMALL BUSINESS ENTERPRISES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR INCUBATION AND DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT BY THE MATSILA INCUBATION CENTRE The Matsila Incubation Centre NPC is a non-profit company duly registered with the sole mandate of providing incubation and development support services to small business enterprises within the Agriculture, Game Farming, Tourism and Hospitality industries. This centre is currently one of the incubators contracted to the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) to provide incubation support services to qualifying small business enterprises.

It is against this background that the Matsila Incubation Centre invites small business enterprises focusing on vegetable farming, production of seedlings, arts and crafts, chicken farming, fish farming, hatchery of chicks, cattle farming, goat and sheep farming, chicken abattoir, red meat abattoir, game farming, tourism and hospitality to express their interest to enter into a dedicated incubation program.

Makonde FC are the new Tshedza champions

By Frank Mavhungu Makonde FC were crowned the champions of the Makonde Tshedza Soccer Tournament at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds last Sunday after they beat Shadani Dangerous Scorpions 2-0 in the final.

According to one of the organisers of the annual event, Mr Nyadzeni Ravhura, Makonde FC will be presented with a floating trophy, gold medals and R3 750 during a ceremony that will be held next weekend. Mr Ravhura revealed that the exact date and venue for the ceremony will be announced after their meeting that will be held this weekend.

The runners-up, Shadani Dangerous Scorpions, will take home silver medals and R2 750.

The teams booted out in the semi-final stage, Tswera Hot Chilies and Makonde Manchester United, will each receive R1 750 and bronze medals. Teams knocked out of the tournament in the quarter-final stage, Mashishi FC, Tshilulu Young Tigers, Makonde Manchester United and Makonde Youth FC, will each receive a cash prize of R1 250.

Eight teams from Makonde and the surrounding areas took part in the tournament. The teams that battled it out for the championship this year were: Tswera Hot Chilies, Mashishi FC, Shadani Dangerous Scorpions, Makonde Home Defenders, Makonde Youth FC, Makonde FC, Tshilulu Young Tigers and Makonde Manchester United.

The tournament is named after the local traditional leader, Vhamusanda Vho-Tshedza Ravhura. Mr Nyadzeni Ravhura further revealed that Vhamusanda Vho-Ravhura was the sole sponsor of the tournament.

The results for the quarterfinal matches are: Tswera Hot Chilies 6, Mashishi FC 0; Shadani Dangerous Scorpions 2, Tshilulu Young Tigers 0; Makonde Home Defenders 0, Makonde Manchester United 1; and Makonde FC 1, Makonde Youth 0.

The results for the semi-final matches are: Tswera Hot Chilies 1, Makonde FC 2; and Shadani Dangerous Scorpions 3, Makonde Manchester United 2. Shadani Dangerous Scorpions lifted the trophy last year.

While the rest of the GladAfrica Championship League teams will take a break, the only match that is scheduled for the weekend will be between Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and Royal Eagles at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg tomorrow afternoon.

The fact that both sides must win the match at all cost is reason enough for the fans to expect a thriller.

Should they manage to collect the maximum points at the expense of Royal Eagles tomorrow, TTM will move to the fourth position on the log with 15 points, four behind the pace setters, Uthongathi FC. On the other hand, Royal Eagles must win the match to move out of the relegation quagmire. The Eagles are currently lying at the bottom of the log.
