Ritual murder? A 52-year-old resident of Matonga village in the Elim area, Mr Philip Chambeti Bendzani, was chopped to death in a suspected ritual attack last Wednesday night. The incident occurred at Mununzwu Farm (Sweetwaters). It is alleged that some body parts were missing when his body was recovered in the nearby bushes. Madzivhe is originally from Mozambique. Six people were arrested the day after the incident and have since been charged with murder. The accused are a local traditional healer (sangoma), Mr Frans Madzive (54), and Messrs Rudzani Shadrack Malange (21), Meshack Mkhwanadzi (20), Lesley Meshack Malange (21), Reynie Abraal (31) and David Mnisi (27). They allegedly removed the victim’s pubic hair and testicles and set him alight afterwards on the farm grounds. The Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, mentioned that the police had so far found a plastic bag, which the suspects allegedly used to carry the parts. “The police investigations to find the removed parts are at an advanced state,” Mulaudzi said. According the deceased’s wife, Ms Maria Chambedi, her husband had gone out to collect some timber at Mununzu farm with his two dogs. By 20:00, Bendzani hadn’t returned, which was uncommon because he usually returned before 19:00. Soon afterwards, Maria noticed that the dogs were moving around at home, but her husband was nowhere to be seen. She then went to inform Bendzani’s younger brother, Simon Sihlangu. Sihlangu and Maria, together with other family members and relatives, then went to Sweetwaters farm to look for Bendzani. “It was a long way up there,” she said. “I felt weak. I felt that something bad had happened to my husband. I fell down many times on the way and decided to return home with a few others.” However, those who continued with the search were met by a most horrible sight. “Fresh blood and traces of human footprints were visible on the ground,” said Maria. A pair of shoes, which belonged to the deceased, were also found on the spot.

“At first we saw nothing else,” said Simon. “But when we looked further ahead on our left, there was a fire burning. We went closer. Our brother Phillip was covered with thick, black plastic bags and burning. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life.” Following the horrendous discovery, the police were alerted about the incident and their investigations led to the arrest of the six. The preliminary investigation suggests that the suspects tried to cremate the victim in order to conceal the act of ritual murder after removing his body parts. When Limpopo Mirror visited the family of the ritual murder victim on Friday, there was a palpable silence in the village. School chidren were walking along the steep, dusty streets on their way from school. In the household, the deceased’s family members and friends gathered in the shade cast by their RDP house, talking in hushed tones. “My husband didn’t deserve to be murdered like this,” said a dejected Maria. “He was a carpenter and builder, who worked hard to support his children. It’s hard and painful to think that your own neighbour can do this kind of unimaginable viciousness to you.” She was referring to one of the suspects, the sangoma, who is the victim’s next-door neighbour.
The president of the Vhembe Traditional Health Practitioners, maine Vho-Mbilivhili Neluvhola, said that their organisation did not support acts of ritual killing as parts removed from human beings cannot make muti. “Killing people for muti purposes is uncalled for,” he said. “Healers who are involved in ritual murder cases are not even registered with our organisation. We’ve Mr Philip Bendzani. got rules and values that govern us as vhomaine (traditional practitioners).” He then called on all vhomaine around Vhembe to come and register their names to show that they are traditional practitioners. Bendzani is survived by his wife, five children and a granddaughter. He will be laid to rest at Magulula tomorrow Concerned family members are, from left to right, Mr Simon Sishangu, Ms Elisa Sishangu, Bendzani´s wife Maria and Flora Chambiti. (Saturday).

Water for all, just bring own bucket ... Guaranteed service delivery for all … just bring your own bucket. Water service delivery in the Makhado municipal area again came under fire the past week with taps running dry for days on end. Many residents only realized that there was no water, when their storage tanks started running dry. Tshikota residents were also spotted last Friday frantically trying to fill empty containers with water from a municipal tanker, claiming that they have been without a single drop of water for three weeks. (Log on to www.zoutnet.co.za to watch the video clip). As to the reason for the problem, Makhado municipal spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi dropped off a press release at the offices of theZoutpansberger in Friday, explaining that the Vhembe District Municipality embarked on a reservoir maintenance plan that will interrupt the normal supply of water. The release was dated two days earlier. According to the release, the maintenance plan entails the cleaning of three Albasini dam pump stations, as well as an additional eight reservoirs in Louis Trichardt. These reservoirs include the Mowkop, Hospital, Extension 7 and Railway pump
station as well as the four reservoirs in Berg Street. In their release the Vhembe Municipality explains that the cleaning programme forms part of their “goal to supply every household with an adequate and reliable water supply.” From Monday to Tuesday the three pump stations were cleaned, thereafter the Mowkop reservoir on Wednesday and Thursday and the remaining reservoirs from 26 to 30 May. Confusion, however, exists regarding which parts of town and surrounding areas will be affected and for how long. According to a source close to the cleaning programme, water will be pumped directly from the Albasini dam into the existing supply pipeline for the duration of the programme. This is allegedly due to the fact that the reservoirs will apparently be emptied out. Both the Makhado and Vhembe Municipalities were contacted to provide further details regarding the programme. Questions asked included which parts of town will be affected during the cleaning programme, when maintenance work will be completed, and why Tshikota has been without water for three weeks. Answers provided by the respective municipal spokesper-
sons, however, only seemed to further dent the already fragile reputations of both municipalities when it comes to water service delivery. “We are faced with challenges in respect of water, and are struggling to cope,” said Mr Ralushai Matodzi spokesperson for the district municipality on Tuesday. He acknowledged that the municipality is “disappointing a lot of people” and said that “Since Monday, we received many, many complaints from the public.” Bobodi in turn responded that he was not aware of the water crisis currently experienced by Tshikota residents. “If that is the case [no water], I was not aware of the challenges,” he said on Monday. He then referred all further media questions to Matodzi because the Makhado Municipality is no longer responsible for water. Asked were residents can find municipal water trucks, Bobodi referred the issue to the municipality’s assistant manager for water services, Mr David Mukosi, who is responsible for the deployment of the emergency water trucks. He responded by saying that residents should phone the trucks themselves if they want to know where they are. The number given was 082 941 8171.
Matibe to lead ANC in Vhembe region The mayor of the Mutale Municipality, Mr Tshitereke Matibe, was elected the new regional chairperson of the ANC in the Vhembe Region at an elective conference that was held at the Manenu Traffic College in Mutale last week. The fifth regional conference took place from Friday 18 May to Sunday 20 May. Matibe, who is also the current chairperson of the ANC in the Mutale subregion, competed against former chairperson Mr Philemon Mdaka. Matibe received 177 votes and Mdaka 143. Matibe said that the newly elected leadership in the region would strengthen local government in terms of rendering services to the people. “We need to ensure that our municipalities are delivering the needed services to the people,” he said. Mdaka is a former member of Ximoko xa Rixaka. He was the regional chairperson of the ANC in Vhembe for two terms. He is also a former executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality and is the current portfolio head of finance in the municipality. Matibe is said to be an ally of Premier Cassel Mathale. “It was obvious that Mdaka was going to lose. We knew he would not survive the competition this time,” sources from within said. They accused Mdaka of causing division within the party
“through his tribalistic leadership style”. The regional chairperson of the ANCYL in Vhembe, Mr Rolivhuwa Nelwamondo, said: “On the basis of the wave of problems facing our region, we have arrived at a decision that Matibe’s leadership will take this region forward.” He added that they had full confidence in the leadership capabilities and political know-how of “this tried and tested cadre of the ANC” in the Vhembe region. A member of the Limpopo Legislature, Ms Nandi Ndalani, was elected Matibe’s deputy, while Mr Khathu Netshifhefhe retained his position as the secretary. Makhado Mayor Mr David Mutavhatsindi was elected deputy secretary, while Mr Tshifhiwa Dali was elected as treasurer. Fifteen additional members from Matibe’s faction were also elected. After his defeat, Mdaka wished Matibe Down and out: Mr Philemon Mdaka. the best of luck.

Fined for using stolen SA passport
A municipal truck, parked on the corner of Songozwi and Munnik Street last Friday lured crowds of people anxious to fill their containers with water.
A 23-year-old Zimbabwean was fined R2 000 or one month in jail for attempting to cross into the country through the Beit Bridge Border Post border while using a stolen South African passport. Abson Mazhara (23) of Masvingo was convicted on his own plea of guilty to contravening a section of the Immigration Act by local magistrate Ms Gloria Takundwa. The prosecutor, Miss Memory Mandityira, said that on 12 May Mazhara came to the border post, intending to cross into
South Africa. On arrival at the departure side, he presented a South African passport belonging to Rendani Ramaluvhani. On discovering that Mazhara was using someone else’s passport, the immigration officer alerted the police and Mazhara was arrested. In a related case, a 29-year-old local man was fined US$300 or two months in jail on Monday for attempting to cross into South Africa through the Beit Bridge Border Post, using a stolen Zambian passport. Bekizitha Zimbili of Nkulumane suburb in Bulawayo was
convicted on his own plea of guilty to contravening a section of the Immigration Act (using a passport issued to another person) by Ms Takundwa. It was testified that on 9 May, Zimbili arrived at the border post, intending to cross into South Africa. As part of the immigration formalities, she presented a passport to an immigration officer manning the counters. On scrutinizing the passport, the officer discovered that the travel document did not belong to Zimbili. A report was made to the police and Zimbili was arrested.

Univen’s principal, Prof Peter Mbati, said many activities were lined up for the celebrations at the university.
Thabo Siavhe (28), who was captured by North Sudanese soldiers while doing landmine clearance work on a United Nations contract in Sudan some four weeks ago, was released on Sunday, along with three other captives. Thabo was an employee of the state-owned Denel-Mechem company based in Cape Town. The four workers apparently entered the wrong territory while busy with their duties as humanitarian relief workers. They were all released to former South African president and chief African Union mediator Thabo Mbeki, who had been involved in peace talks with the Sudan government since Thursday last week. Fear and dread about their lives had been spreading throughout the world, while the Sudanese government continued citing that the men couldn't
be set free before they had finished completing their investigations to determine if they had been involved as military advisors to South Sudan or other wrongful activities. Denel-Mechem CEO Ashley Williams had since denied that his two employees, namely Siavhe and a Sudanese colleague, were ever involved in any activities other than humanitarian duties for which they were deployed to Sudan. He said that his employees' duties in Sudan were to lift “landmines and the destruction of unexploded remnants of the recent civil war between the two countries”, namely Sudan and South Sudan. Siavhe is a resident of Tshikwarani village in the Kutama area. The Kutama Traditional Authority are looking forward to welcoming him, said the Kutama Traditional Authority's chairperson, Mr Gilbert Muofhe.

Stray elephants destroy crops in Zim Stray elephants from the Kruger National Park (KNP) have descended on the neighbouring Tshikwalakwala irrigation scheme outside Beit Bridge district, where they are reportedly destroying crops. The local ward councillor, Mr Enock Ndou, said Tshikwalakwala and surrounding areas were the worst affected areas. He called on the relevant authorities to intervene. “A herd of elephants from KNP has strayed into the irrigation scheme and the animals are destroying crops and canals. This is an issue of grave concern, particularly when one takes into account that farmers are now preparing to plant wheat for the winter crop season,” he added. Mr Eddie Hlongwane, a committee member of the irrigation scheme, said that the elephants had pulled down the fence and crossed the canals. They
have destroyed several people’s crops and “this continues to frustrate our efforts to participate in the winter crop season.” The irrigation scheme, measuring 65 ha, has been hard hit by a serious water shortage, due to a lack of funds to purchase the diesel used in powering the pumps. Established in 1963, Tshikwalakwala Irrigation Scheme is the second-largest scheme in the district after Shashe, and it has 208 plot holders, with each cultivating 0,2ha. Due to the acute shortage of water, plot holders have been forced to reduce the hectares for planting. Mr Hlongwane said that out of four installed engine pumps, only one was working. In May 2010, elephants destroyed crops at the neighbouring Shashane and Tshamaswiswi irrigation schemes. They also killed three people. The latest development comes hot on the heels of a similar problem encountered early this year, when a pride of lions from the KNP killed 10 heads of cattle and two donkeys in the same village. Ndou said he would notify the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and the local safari operator, Three Ways Safaris, about the issue. Tshikwalakwala, which is the remotest area in the district, is situated at the confluence of the Limpopo and Bubi River. The area, which is also prone to floods, shares the border with South Africa and Mozambique.

“We need decent roads” say residents Tshitale residents, who have been raising concerns about the bad condition of the roads in their area, met with the MEC for Roads and Transport at the Mulima Tribal Offices two weeks ago. The meeting with MEC Pitsi Moloto followed after residents had protested outside the MEC’s offices in Polokwane. The protesters demanded that the D3727 road be tarred as promised by government. The road connects the Tshitale area with Elim and Soekmekaar. Residents said that they were concerned about the fact that the new road, which had been budgeted for in the previous financial year, remained unattended to. “We were promTransport MEC Pitsi Moloto shakes hands with a traditional leader, Chief Vho-Alpheus Mulima. ised that R180 million had been Looking on is the acting executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Lucas Manyuha By Elmon Tshikhudo (left).
set aside to construct the road, but, to our surprise, nothing is happening. Now the department says that there is no money for the construction of the road,” they said. Meanwhile, MEC Moloto said that his department would only make R50 million available for the project. “The project will be done in three phases,” he said. He added that the estimated cost of completing the 45 kilometre road was R450 million, which the department did not have. After the residents showed displeasure about the R50 million and the fact that the road would be done in phases, Moloto said that he would go back and try to source more funds. The residents had been raising
concerns about the road since 1994. They said that it was difficult to reach the area during the rainy season. Transport is also a problem in the area. “We buy new taxis today and the following day they become dilapidated and look old because of the bad condition of the road. We are pleading for a tarred road,” said the Tshitale taxi operators. The chairperson of the Tshitale Stakeholders Forum, Mr David Mulaudzi, said that he was happy that the MEC had visited the area as promised, but expressed concerns about the R50 million budget, which he said was too little for the road. “We are also not expecting shoddy contractors to work on the road,” he said.
R1.2 bn for upgrading of nurses college
MEC for Transport Mr Pitsi Moloto, addressing concerned residents of Tshitale.
The Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, said government had put aside R1,2 billion for the revitalisation of nursing colleges and the training of nurses countrywide in preparation for the rolling out of the national health insurance (NHI) system. Motsoaledi was briefing more than 200 stakeholders about the envisaged NHI at the Thohoyandou Town Hall last Monday. Prior to meeting the stakeholders, which included mayors, traditional healers and traditional leaders, the minister met with more than 100 private practitioners at the Khoroni Hotel the previous evening, where he encouraged them to dedicate at least four hours of their time daily to clinics. The doctors will be paid according to the hours they work.Vhembe has been identified as one of the areas in the country to pilot the NHI. Motsoaledi was accompanied by the newly appointed MEC for Health in Limpopo, Dr Norman Mabasa. He said during the meeting that it was important for the government to meet all the stakeholders who will be part of the project.
“We want this project to run, and the first thing we thought of was to concretise our relationship with communities, more especially leaders in society. They have a role to play and we want them to understand how the insurance will work.” He also mentioned that there is a huge disparity in the country, where only 8% of the population has access to the best medical care, while the rest of the population, close to 50 million, have no means to afford the best medical care. He said the government had to do a complete overhaul of the whole public service for the programme to work. He also announced that 122 colleges countrywide, of which 28 are in Limpopo, will be revitalised. He said the process had already started, with 49 colleges currently undergoing refurbishment. “This is to show how committed we are to our people. We want health care to be accessible to all in the country and not only the rich,” he said. After meeting the different stakeholders, Motsoaledi went to the Christian Worship House Church at Shayandima, where he met hospital CEOs, heads of clinics, and other leaders in the health profession. He also met principals of schools in Louis Trichardt. Responding after the presentation by the Minister, Thulamela Mayor Grace Mahosi said she was excited for her municipality to have been chosen as one of the pilot projects. “As Vhembe we are very lucky and we hope our people will benefit through the best medical care. Vhomaine Vho Mbilivhili Neluvhola said the traditional healers welcomed the project and would assist the government in caring for the sick.

Man in court for breaking into church A 42-year-old Madombidzha man, Joseph Mulalo Manyaga, appeared before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court last week on a charge of housebreaking and theft. This follows a break-in at the International Pentecost Church (IPC) at Madombidzha village. According to the police statement, the incident happened during the night of 6 May. An iron bar was used to force open the window of the newly constructed toilets at the IPC churchyard. The copper pipes were cut off and stolen, while electrical light cables were also
removed. A blanket and a shoe, which were in one of the old kitchen rooms, were found missing. Documents stored in the toilet’s passage were found strewn on the floor when the general caretaker at the church, VhoEmily Sengani, came to open the toilets the next morning. According to the police, footprints found in the churchyard and around the toilet matched those of Manyaga. The general caretaker at the International “Police went to Manyaga’s Pentecost Church (IPC), Vho-Emily Sengani, home and found him in posstands in one of the toilets from which the session of some of the stolen copper pipes were removed during the goods, namely a shoe and a burglary. blanket,” said the spokesperson for the Tshilwa vhusiku police, Constable Musiwalo Mahuwa. good that people come to steal from our church,” said VhoEmily. “The person who came and stole here from our church also picked lots of muroho from our garden.” She added that the church had experienced similar incidents in the past. About a month ago, a six-metre-long electrical cable was cut off and stolen. Late last year, some saucepans and pots were also stolen from the kitchen. Manyaga’s case was postponed to 21 May for another magistrate to preside over the case since he had appeared before the present magistrate on numerous occasions. He was refused bail and he remains in custody. In a similar, but separate, incident which happened in Madombidzha village, the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) in Zone Two suffered a cruel blow when the church was broken into on the night of the 2 May. According to Constable Musiwalo Mahuwa of the SAPS at Tshilwavhusiku, thieves used force to open the main door in order to gain entrance to the church. The main electrical cable and speakers were stolen during the burglary. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at more than R2 000. In this case, no suspect has been arrested so far.
Secondhand Goods Act launched Different stakeholders in Vhembe hailed the launch of the Secondhand Goods Act on Monday and said it was an important link in the fight against crime. Launching the new act, Deputy-Minister of Police Maggie Sotyu said the act stipulated that any person who bought stolen goods was as guilty as the thief. She said both the buyer and the thief would receive harsh sentences. The act further empowers the police to arrest the buyer and the thief “so there is no longer an excuse when it comes to criminality,” she added. “Our message to the community of Thohoyandou and the entire country is that they should refrain from buying stolen goods,” she said. She added that the new act was an expression of the police’s commitment to reach out to communities, be they urban or rural, to drive home the message that crime does not pay. Turning to the police, she said: “This act complements your efforts in fighting criminals; the time of the police taking hours to respond must come to an end.” She also urged people to be suspicious of people selling secondhand goods and report them to the police before deciding to buy these goods. The MEC for Safety and Police, Ms Fhulufhelo Radzilani, said she was excited that the deputy-minister had thought of launching the act in Vhembe, because it gave her the opportunity to have a firsthand experience of the re- The Deputy-Minister sources in Vhembe. of Police, Ms Maggie Sotyu also visited the Sotyu, promises hard Vhembe’s child protec- times for thieves at tion unit and the one the launch of the dealing with sexual of- Secondhand Goods fences. Plain Truth The quest for morality
Engaging a women’s heart What can women do to overcome their lusts and stop cheating? Women must know that God created them to be the man's helpmate, and, in essence, she was created to SERVE. How do we understand this matter of serving? She must Support her husband (Gen 2:18). Her role is not a weak one. On the contrary, it is one of strength and perseverance. However, it is frequently misconstrued as “less than” or “second class” – considered to be of no value. That is not what God intended. A woman is also called to Empower, nurture and develop those around her (Proverbs 31:12; 23; 31), and not to destroy through cheating or revenge. A woman Relates and connects well with others, especially in the context of love, marriage and family (Proverbs 31:26-28), and therefore must strive to build her relationship more and make it work. A woman Values the shelter in her life. Genesis 2:24 talks about a man leaving his mother and father and uniting with his wife. The shelter moves from parents to the husband in marriage, hence the need for husbands to protect their wives. Women must therefore fight for their right in terms of encouraging their men to fulfill their roles in this regard. A woman is also called to Enhance; she impacts life around her (Proverbs 31:11-15). If a woman understands her calling to SERVE, she will then commit to the following godly actions that will prevent her from cheating and hurting her husband in the process:
(1) a godly woman understands that it is inappropriate to pursue or engage in physical, emotional, or spiritual oneness with a man to whom she is not married (Ephesians 5:3-4). Sexual purity is in the picture here, but it entails more than just abstaining from extramarital sex; to be a true woman of God, it’s also about watching what you say and how you behave; (2) a godly woman dresses modestly, so that she does not cause men to stumble, and she trains her thoughts not to lust after men (Rom 14:13). The focus of men’s interest is physical by nature. When wearing something, you need to ask a simple question: Why do we wear what we wear? Modesty is what is needed, and it all starts with the heart; (3) a godly woman guards her heart by not engaging in premature interactions with men without having a clear direction as to the purpose of the relationship (1 Cor 7:34); she is more concerned with the things of the Lord. A word of caution: wait on God to fight your battles; (4) a godly woman enters into a relationship with a commitment to sexual purity before marriage. “Do not be deceived,” 1 Corinthians 15:33 admonishes us. “Bad company corrupts good morals”; (5) A godly woman recognizes that God is at the forefront of her life. Her trust is in God and not her schemes of how to get a man (1 Peter 3:15a); and (6) a godly woman prays earnestly about any relationship that she seeks to pursue. - Prof Derrick Mashau (Derrick.Mashau@nwu.ac.za)

“Success if we work together” Makhado Municipality's residents should come together, regardless of race, colour or religious affiliation, to achieve the goal of taking basic service delivery to the people. This was the message of the newly inaugurated mayor, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, during a meeting of the integrated development plan (IDP) representative forum held last Thursday at the Makhado show grounds. He said that when all delegates, councillors and ward committee members came together and made their input in the IDP and budget for 2012/2013, it would improve basic service delivery to all the stakeholders. According to Cllr Mutavhatsindi, “It is only when we are working together that we can bring better services to our people.” He acknowledged that there is still a huge backlog in service delivery in the municipality. “Certain services here in town are not there, services that were supposed to be available,” he said. The Makhado area was chosen as a growth point by the provincial government and its vision is to be a city by 2025. “We cannot achieve this vision without participation of the public,” the mayor said. Acting Municipal Manager Mr Elias Mugari added that the integrated development planning process necessitated the involvement of all relevant stakeholders. “The IDP guides the municipality to identify its key development priorities and the needs of the people,” he said. According to Cllr David Davhana, portfolio head of Budget and Treasury, the challenges facing the municipality are the non-payment of accounts by consumers, outdated customer information in the financial system and the poor audit report received from the auditor general. “The financial system should be updated; it shows some customers who don’t exist anymore,” he said. Not all delegates welcomed the IDP final draft and the budget.
Major problems raised by delegates were unoccupied vacancies at the municipal offices which were advertised last year as well as the inadequate water supply in various areas. The IDP representatives also complained about the late submission of relevant documents.

Still no outcome in magistrate’s trial
Vho-Mulilo buried at Makonde village Larger than life? Extraordinary? Irreplaceable? Mother of the nation? All these words were used to to describe the character of the late Agnes Ntshavheni Mulilo Dzebu (79), a staunch member of the church and co-founder of the fast-growing Thusaululo Ministries. Mrs Dzebu was buried during a moving, but celebratory, ceremony at her home village of Makonde, outside Thohoyandou, on Saturday. She is the mother of the spokesperson of the Musina Municipality and a former senior journalist of Limpopo Mirror. Agnes was nicknamed VhoMulilo (Fire) in church circles, because of her powerful prayers and her love of serving the Lord
people who were healed proudly witnessed how Vho-Mulilo had prayed for them when they were sick and thanked the Lord for working wonders through her. Others who have been saved also thanked her for preaching the gospel to them until they repented to serve the Lord. Evangelist Thizwilondi Magalela of Thasululo Ministries also thanked God for giving them a wonderful gift in VhoMulilo. She said the church would always remember Vho-Mulilo because of her huge contribution towards the establishment of the six branches of the church. “God took her very soon. We needed her seriously, but we accepted her death humbly. May the good Lord be praised.” In a written speech, Vho-Mulilo’s only daughter, Humbelani Mangale, described her mother as an angel who brought up her children with love and affection. “It is sad that my mother died on Mother’s Day while others were celebrating with their mothers. Scores of mourners, including the mayor of Musina Municipality, Cllr Carol Phiri, and the Chief Whip, Cllr Simon Madamalala, filled the Thasululo Ministries church building to capacity, before proceeding to Makonde cemetery where Agnes was laid to rest. Although the atmosphere was subdued, the ceremony resembled a celebration of a life well lived because Vho-Mulilo fully dedicated her life to the Lord. She died peacefully last Sunday after a short illness. Before the burial on Saturday, thousands of people gathered for the memorial service in her honour, which was held at the same church building on Friday afternoon. Dozens of

live, some don’t even know that theatres exist. Among the plays that were performed were Masilo the pelican. The play depicts the story of Masilo, who suffers the consequences of man’s irresponsible actions against the environment. The drama group not only focusses on entertaining pupils, but also teaches them the importance of the environment. A story titled The four friends focuses on endangered species and teaches children the importance of taking care of animals. The principal of the Ha-Mutsha Primary School, Mr David Manyama, thanked the company for selecting their school. He also acknowledged that the children had gained a lot of knowledge from the play.

A live drama performer, Mr Tobela Mpela, said they chose Venda because they knew that in places like these there was undiscovered talent, and they wanted to inspire the children. “It is only by performing live plays that these kids can recognise their dreams,” he said. He added that these live performances gave the children hope and made them realise their dreams. “It is at places like these where you can get the best actors for tomorrow, but if they don’t watch this live, they will never dream,” he said. During their last performance on Friday at the HaMutsha Primary School, it was clear that the children loved the theatre. According to Mr Mpela, since most children cannot go to Johannesburg or experience this

Most children might have thought that theatres are a kind of luxury entertainment that exists only in big towns and cities. Perhaps many have only experienced plays by watching them on television. This mindset would have changed drastically when the National Children’s Theatre visited several primary schools in Venda. National Children’s Theatre, generously supported by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), made it possible for primary school children to experience a live drama. A production of songs and tales titled African Tapestry were premiered around several primary schools in the Venda region. The drama group’s visit to the area lasted for five days.

Mayor Mutavhatsindi meets the young leaders of Triegies “It can’t be business as usual,” the new mayor of Makhado Municipality, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, said when he met young leaders of Louis Trichardt High School. Cllr Mutavhatsindi referred to non-delivery, especially in the case of top management. “They have signed contracts and there is no reason why they should stay if they do not
deliver”. This was in answer to a question by Ms Leonie Wood, who launched a leaders’ forum to enable high school leaders to meet top leaders in several fields. The lack of good financial management came up in the discussion, and Mutavhatsindi said that he had already started dealing with that. “This municipality has not been doing well in terms of financial management.
The auditor general's report was not good for the past years. We check every week as to how are they dealing with the queries form the auditor general. We know there will be improvement, but it is not going to come overnight,” Mutavhatsindi said. He explained that the municipal manager (an administrator) accounts to the mayor (a politician) who motivates him by ensuring
The new mayor of Makhado Municipality, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, met the 2011/12 executive leaders of Louis Trichardt High School on 9 May. In the front, from left to right, are Susan Wilson (deputy-headgirl: culture), Rozanne Barnard (deputy-headgirl: academics) Larissa Venter (headgirl), Mayor Mutavhatsindi, Quintin Moodie (headboy) and Ms Leonie Wood, founder of the forum for top high school leaders. that the municipal manager “is always on top of things”. At the meeting, which took place in the downstairs council chamber on 9 May, the questions of the young leaders showed their empathy with the stress and challenges facing a leader. Mutavhatsindi gave them the tip to ignore those issues that just come to obstruct one. He also encouraged them to learn other languages while they are still young. The language issue came up when it was mentioned as a hindrance to attending meetings that are not conducted in English. “Around town its my priority to ensure that the minority groups are involved, because most of the time at our integrated development planning (IDP) meetings, you’ll find that the Indians, coloureds and whites are not there, which is not fine, because the only thing they do is to complain, write stories and send them to the newspapers … let all these people come to the meetings for the betterment of this town …,” Mutavhatsindi said. He added that it would be wrong to say that the meetings would always be conducted in English. He complimented deputy-headboy Rinae Musekene, who speaks fluent Afrikaans. Mutavhatsindi said that he always enjoyed an opportunity to sit with people where they express how they feel. “I enjoy it because I’m a good listener and I take advice,” he said.
Mr Amie Chhaya of Louis Trichardt proudly displays yet another certificate he received, this time from the Dengenya Secondary School on 19 April “as a thank you for his support in the motivation and contribution to their learners.” He also received thanks from the Nesengani Day Care Centre for the donation of maize meal and cool drink squash.

New RDP houses for Mutale’s homeless Poor and homeless people in the 13 wards of Mutale Local Municipality are set to benefit from the allocation of 620 new RDP houses to be built this financial year. The new deal of RDP houses was allocated to Mutale by the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs as another way of decreasing the number of poor communities living without shelter, said Mutale Local Municipality Mayor Tshitereke
Matibe. “We urge our ward councillors to help identify the needy, poor and homeless people, so that we can speed up the delivery of houses. We want our poor communities to own and live in decent houses that we will build,” Matibe said. He was joined by the acting executive mayor of the Vhembe District, Cllr Lucas Manyuha, who spoke on Friday in MakuyaDomboni outside Mutale during a Vhembe District Municipality
imbizo. During the event, several officials from departments such as SASSA, home affairs, government communication and information systems and education also helped the municipalities in answering questions from the communities who attended. Communities were also urged to register the names of their companies on the municipality’s database, so that they may compete and bid for tenders advertised.

Sinthumule High School new cricket champions Sinthumule High School is the champion of the Vhembe/Mopani Special School Cricket Tournament, which was held at the Tshilwavhusiku Razwimisani Special School in Ravele Village last Thursday. The schools who participated were Tshilwavhusiku Razwimisani Special School, Pfunanani Special School and Sinthumule High. Tshilwavhusiku Razwimisani was the runner-up, and Pfunanani ended in third place. Lucky Matambela was the best batsman and Nditsheni Maimela from Tshilwavhusiku Razwimisani Special School the best bowler. The competition was sponsored by Bruzar Consultants. According to the marketing manager of Bruzar, Mr Tshifhiwa Madula, the donation was a way of giving back to the community. "We have been touched by the plight of the intellectually impaired children who seemed committed and dedicated to sports but lacked resources," he said. He added that the reason he decided to do this was to unearth new
talent. “We want to develop young players." Madula said the idea came about after seeing that most youths were not participating in sport and were embracing alcohol and drug abuse and practising unprotected sex. "Most of them end up being drop-outs and not succeeding in life," he said. "However, sport will keep them focused." He stated that the firm believed in ploughing back a portion of its profit into the community that was backing them. He added that parents must refrain from hiding children with disabilities. “Gone are those days when people used to chain their children at home because they have disabilities. Let them come and learn with others. They have potential like all other children,” he said. "Put your education first and you will succeed," he added. The sport organiser of the Tshilwavhusiku School, Mr Eric Ravhura, was over the moon. “This company is doing a wonderful job for our kids. They laid a good foundation that will
take the pupils to a better future," said the principal of the school, Mrs Mufunwa Ramutshila. In 2010, two of Tshilwavhusiku’s pupils, Funzani Ramabulana and Thomas Mphaphuli, represented South Africa in floor hockey in America and came back with gold medals.

It’s now official: Dynamos have been relegated to the Vodacom Promotional League. This after they suffered a humiliating 2-7 defeat at the hands of Carara Kicks at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in Phuthaditjaba on Sunday afternoon. Although they knew before the game that nothing less than a victory would save them from relegation, the players of Dynamos approached the game as if there was nothing at stake. Braces from Luyolo Nomandela and Moeketsi Mvulo helped Kicks get the three points, while Mpho Mvelase, Tsepiso Motaung and Luvuyo Kelepu also scored for Kicks. Thanda Royal Zulu and the National First Division rookies, Chippa United, will contest in the promotional play-offs after victories on the final day of the season. Royal Zulu beat the league champions, University of Pretoria, 1-0, to finish third in the standings, thanks to Peter Nwandike’s 86th minute goal. Chippa United also secured their play-off spot after beating FC AK 4-0 at the Eldorado Park Stadium. The home team was reduced to 10 men after Nkayiso Zondi was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on James Skhosana in the 14th minute. It was a difficult Sunday afternoon for Blackburn Rovers, whose 0-1 defeat to Bay United saw them drop out of the play-off places. Mpumalanga Black Aces also survived relegation with a 1-0 win over FC Cape Town. Lotie Prince was the hero of the day as his strike in the 40th minute earned his side the three vital points. David Radebe scored a brace when his side, United FC, beat Witbank Spurs 3-0. Mahau Motumi scored the third later in the game. Although they were already relegated before playing the game, Atlie FC fought hard to share the spoils with Vasco da Gama, with whom they played to a 1-1 draw. Sevutsa Stars were beaten 2-3 by African Warriors to move down into 12th place. Dynamos will now join teams like Giyani Hotspurs, Basel FC and Nobela All Stars in the Vodacom Promotional League.

Odzias Davhana’s pupils stage protest Angry pupils at Odzias Davhana High School in Mpheni outside Elim barricaded the school gate during a protest action last Wednesday. Pupils demanded that the school’s long-serving principal, Mr Albert Muthelo, be reinstated as principal of the school. Muthelo, who had completed his suspension, was supposed to return to work at the school at the beginning of the month. He had been working at the Soutpansberg East Circuit’s office, following his suspension.
The circuit had seconded Mr Morris Chauke to be the caretaker principal at the school while Muthelo was on suspension, following allegations of failing to control leave forms for educators properly and the failure to manage time books at the school. Pupils said that they wanted Muthelo back at the school and threatened to continue with the protest if the department failed to reinstate him. Some parents joined the protest and supported the learners with their demand. Like the
pupils, the parents blamed the circuit manager, Mr Piet Netshia, for the confusion that reigns at the school. The school governing body (SGB), however, supports the caretaker principal. They said that Chauke had effected positive changes at the school. SGB chairperson Ms Balanganani Sikhwayi said that Muthelo had, on several occasions, failed to manage the school. “The school used to obtain a 13% (pass rate) during Muthelo’s time, which is different now that Chauke has joined the school. The man increased the matric pass rate to 82.7%, Pupils at Odzias Davhana High School in Mpheni staged a protest action at the school last which is what we want Wednesday. as parents,” she said, adding that the SGB was happy with the good work Chauke was doing at the school. Before he was seconded to Odzias Davhana, Chauke was principal at Tshikhwani Primary School. The provincial spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mr Pat Kgomo, said that he was not aware of the protest. “I will have to investigate what the protest was all about,” he said. Kgomo said that Muthelo was told to report at the cirPupils vandalized the gate at the school during the protest. Northern Brothers ready for the play-offs Ramantsha FC wallop All Stars 4-2 setjane All Stars (Waterberg), Matopo United FC (Sekhukhune), Zero Fake FC (Mopani) and Ray Pillars FC (Capricorn). According to one of the organisers for the event, Mr Pat Seema, the tournament will be played in a round-robin format, with each team playing four matches. The top two teams at the end of the tournament will be promoted to Vodacom Promotional League, while the other three will go back to their respective regions and start afresh. Dagada said that they had put aside some attractive incentives for the players in case they managed to gain promotion. He stated that the team had been training hard for the past three weeks. When asked about their secret weapons, Dagada said that all the players were razor sharp. He singled out Sello Senyolo, Edgar Molewa and Gift Matsena as some of the players who will give their opponents a tough time. Dagada revealed that the team does not have a sponsor, saying the officials were the ones carrying the burden of financing it. The officials who are sacrificing their families’ budget for the sake of the team are: Messrs Milingoni Dagaga, Tom Dagada, Bebiwani Mudumela, Mboneni Mudumela, Sedzani Mudumela, Rendani Mudumela, Raluswinga Mudumela, Ahuiwi Netshidaulu, Masala Dagada and Nndweleni Dagada. Tshifhire Northern Brothers will be campaigning in the Vodacom Promotional League next season if the club’s public relations officer, Mr Milingoni Dagada’s words are anything to go by. Dagada is optimistic that his side will conquer all their opponents in the promotional play-off matches and gain promotion to the Vodacom Promotional League. The champions from the five regions will battle for promotion at the Makwarela Stadium this weekend. The five teams taking part are: Tshifhire Northern Brothers from Vhembe Region, Mose-
Ramantsha FC walloped Madodonga TAB All Stars 4-2 in a Limpopo Dairy League match at the Ramantsha grounds on Sunday. Ramantsha could have scored a dozen of goals, had it not been for their squandering numerous chances in the first half. Stars were the first to score when Innocent Masipa broke loose in the 12th minute and sent goalkeeper Lufuno Mudonde the wrong way. Ramantsha found the equalising goal in the 34th minute via Tsepo Thovhakale, who scored after receiving a beautiful pass from Phumudzo Ramantswana. The home team replaced Rendani Ravhura with Rofhiwa Mufamadi and his introduction changed the complexion of the match. Mufamadi was everywhere, dishing dangerous passes to the frontrunners. Michelle Pootana headed home, following an aerial pass from Steven Thovhakale to make the half-time score 2-1. Realising that their scoring chances were slim, Ramantsha tried their luck by bringing on Rendani Ravhura for Rendani Makamu in the 65th minute. Tsepo Thovhakale scored the third goal for the local lads in the 74th minute and Mpho Maepane scored the fourth goal of his team after he received a well-cooked pass from Khathutshelo Tshikulumela. Sikhwari destroys Ravele’s Dragons Iyarunga FC were too strong for Ravele Black Dragons when they overwhelmed them 4-2 in their Limpopo Dairy League match at Ravele on
Saturday. Dragons took the game to their opponents from the onset, but were let down by poor finishing from their strikers. They came close to scoring in the eighth minute, when Khodani Siabi shot wide from close range. Dragons were strong at the far back and their striking force too, but they lacked cohesion in the middle of the park. The balls that threatened the defence of Iyarunga were ballooned from behind. The centre forward of Iyarunga, Frans Lethole, went into the referee's book, following dangerous play on Edward Ramadzhamba. Iyarunga converted an opportunity in the 24th minute when Tshivhidzo Sikhwari scored easily. Their opponents should have equalised two minTshivhidzo Sikhwari, Iya utes later, but Dakalo Mukhavhuli shot into the keeper Ndivhuwo runga´s four-goal hero.
Khangala’s hands. Nyadzani Netshaulu scored his team’s second goal when he received a beautiful pass from Tshivhidzo Sikhwari in the 44th minute. The half-time score was 2-0 in favour of Iyarunga. Early in the second half, Cartoo Mohlale reduced the margin when he scored from 20 meters out. The Kutama lads were aggressive, with their midfielders dishing out dangerous passes to their strikers. Sikhwari scored the third goal of his team. Hector Mukwevho of Iyarunga was red-carded for insulting the referee, Mr David Nyalungu. The Iyarunga keeper, Ndivhuwo Khangala, made several saves. Dragons scored their second goal via Colbert Magoro, while Sikhwari scored his fourth goal in the 87th minute after he finished off a square pass from Patrick Nthapalala.

Basel and Phungo All Stars in a draw The Vodacom Promotional League match between Phungo All Stars and Basel FC at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday ended in a goalless draw. The absence of Japhta Mabosho and Gift Ramaxwaila from the Basel strike force was evident from the onset. The defence of All Stars was on leave, as there was nobody to trouble them. Realising that their scoring chances were slim, Basel soon replaced their striker, Lebogang Sithole, with Livhuwani Netshiendeulu. He caused an upset in the 24th minute, when he fumbled at the goal line with the keeper of All Stars, Reason Mbedzi, already beaten. The technical staff of Basel could not forgive Netshiendeulu for that and they replaced him, despite the fact that he had come on as a substitute. Tsepo Phelwane of Basel was reprimanded with a card for handling the ball intentionally. Instead of producing red, the Tzaneen-based referee, Mr Quality Kgapane, flashed yellow. All Stars’ keeper, Reason Mbedzi, sustained an knee injury early in the second half and was replaced with Phumudzo Ramago. Basel later replaced Tsepo Phelwane and Khumbudzo Muvhango with Toney Lewele and Shonisani Rambebu respectively. The results of the other Vodacom Promotional League matches, which were also played on Saturday, are: Blue Rocks 2, Baroka 0; Giyani Hotspurs 2, Dinare FC 1; Rospa United 2, Mighty Lucky Mkhari of Basel (front) and Tondani FC 0; The Dolphins 0, Super Eagles 3; Nobela Nkhumeleni of Stars in full flight in a bid to All Stars 4, Modimolle Aces 2 and Magezi FC 2, win the ball. Tshitungulwane Reformed Squad spoil Ace’s party Tshitungulwane Reformed Squad squashed Tshivhulana Real Aces’ title hopes, when they thrashed them 4-1 in their Makhado Local Football Association League match at the Tshivhulana Madahambanzhe grounds on Sunday afternoon. Real Aces looked hopeless from the onset, while the visitors enjoyed ball possession in all departments. Their captain, Abednego Tshishonga, was a marvel to watch. He scored his side’s third goal and he played an influential role in the other three. Reformed Squad wasted no time before
scoring their opening goal. It was in the ninth minute when they opened their account. Their left flank, Khavharendwe Muavha, dribbled past two Aces defenders in a row and showed the keeper the wrong way. Confusion and frustration continued in the Aces camp shortly after the goal. Reformed Squad scored two more goals in quick succession. Khathutshelo Tshishonga beat the keeper with a volley from a place kick in the 27th minute. As if they were the leading, Real Aces abandoned their positions and packed themselves in their own half.
They were severely punished for that. Abednego Tshishonga hooked in the ball, following a beautiful pass from Lesley Makwarela to bring the half-time score to 3-0. The visitors continued to dictate terms in the last half. They scored the fourth via Phumudzo Mudau, who came on as a substitute for Trust Lavhengwa. The keeper of Reformed Squad, Fulufhelo Muavha, was warned with a card for wasting time . Aces pulled one back through Vuledzani Mudau nine minutes before the end of regulation time.

Can Stars shine over Rospa United? The affiliates for the Limpopo Stream of the Vodacom Promotional League will play their second-last matches this weekend. All eyes will be on the match between Phungo All Stars and Rospa United, which will be staged at the Louis Trichardt Eltivillas grounds tomorrow afternoon. Both Rospa United and Phungo All Stars are fighting for survival. Phungo All Stars failed to impress their supporters last Saturday when they shared the
spoils with the other Vhembebased side, Basel FC, at the FNB Makwarela Stadium. Although they managed to collect free points last weekend, Rospa United are not yet safe when it comes to relegation. United were supposed to have played against Mighty FC at the Tshifulanani Stadium, but the match was declared a walkover for them after Mighty failed to pitch up. The defending champions, Baroka FC, must beat Nobela All
Stars in order to maintain their leadership. They are leading the pack with 67 points, two ahead of Winners Park. The latter will play against Dinare FC at the Moloto Stadium. Giyani Hotspurs are preparing themselves for a tough match against Modimolle Aces. They will meet in Modimolle. The other fixtures are: Blue Rocks vs Super Eagles, Magezi FC vs Lephalale Young Killers, Mighty vs The Dolphins and Fanang Diatla vs Basel FC.

Leopards stay in PSL As if they had won a cup final, Black Leopards could not stop celebrating after beating Ajax Cape Town 3-1 in their final Absa Premiership League match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday afternoon. The celebration was not a surprise, as the victory means that Lidoda Duvha managed to escape relegation. Both sides needed the three points desperately. A win for the Urban Warriors would mean that they had finished their league programme in the top eight, thereby indirectly
helping their neighbors, Santos FC, to avoid taking part in the relegation play-offs, while it was a matter of life and death to the local lads. Kingston Nkatha, the Zimbabwean international, scored Leopards’ opening goal in the eighth minute. The striker headed home a cross from Mongezi Bobe to beat the Ajax keeper, Sander Westerveld, at the near post. Lidoda Duvha nearly increased the margin seven minutes before the break, but Nkatha was caught in an offside position.

Ajax started the second half just like they did the first half, by conceding a goal. Samuel Mabunda scored with a header, following Maake’s brilliant cross. There was no stopping the Leopards players as they scored again four minutes thereafter. The home side was awarded a free kick just outside the box. Mahlatse Maake sent in a cross from the free kick and Vincent Xakane, who was in the perfect scoring position, headed home. Maake was replaced with Thomas Madimba in the 58th minute, while Samuel Mabunda gave way to Dave Banda moments later. Ajax pulled one back in the 86th minute through Lebogang Manyama. As part of their time-wasting strategies, Leopards introduced David Zulu for Kingston Nkatha two minutes before the final whistle. Leopards will now concentrate on their last-16 fixture for the Caf Confederation Cup match against El Merrikh FC from Sudan. The match will be played in Sudan on Saturday, June 29.
