Tshikota Township was rocked by a violent incident last Saturday, when a 55-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and stabbed to death at a bar lounge in the township.

According to a police statement, Mr Marubini George Mushapho went to the bar to buy some beer, when two men allegedly approached him and started provoking him. They allegedly demanded money from the change he received when he was buying at the bar. It is alleged that the two men then started to fight with Mushapho and he was

stabbed with a sharp instrument, suspected to be a screwdriver. Although Mushapho was rushed to the nearby Louis Trichardt Hospital, he was certified dead on arrival. The spokesperson for the Makhado police, Capt Maano Sadike, confirmed the incident.

“The incident happened shortly before midnight and we have opened a case of murder,” he said.

Sadike added that the hardworking police team managed to arrest two suspects early on Wednesday. The two, Thanyani Manngo (24) and Tendani Monube (25), briefly appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. The case was postponed, pending further investigations.

Members of the community expressed their shock about the incident and condolences to the family of Mr Mushapho. They depicted Mushapo as a good man, who never quarreled with anyone in the township. “The man loved development. We have really lost a community builder,” they said.

Mushapho was an active member of the South African National Civic Association (SANCO) in the township.

“We want to see justice take its course. The man was very polite and contributed towards building the Tshikota we have today. He did not deserve to die like this,” said the chairperson for the Tshikota

Mr Solly Mushapho said the family was saddened by the unexpected death of Mr Moshapho.

Mushapho was an employee of Shoprite Louis Trichardt, where he worked for more than 20 years.

Controversial book well-received at Univen New filing cabinets for Children’s Home Political commentator Prince Mashele received a boost when his controversial book, The Death of our Society, was well received when he presented it to an audience at a packed hall at the University of Venda last Friday.

Several speakers, including pupils from neighbouring high schools, commented favourably on the book, although several said the book needed further elaboration on several points.

Mashele is also the executive director of the Centre for Politics and Research in Pretoria.

In the book, Mashele says South African society is on the decline and the quesionable morality of its leaders has had a lot

to do with it. Other contentious issues in the book include corruption in tendering processes and development indicators from the World Bank that have shown the country to be degenerating in a number of areas.

As an indication of degeneration of morality, he gives the example of the President Jacob Zuma’s rape case. He says the case leaves the president’s image tarnished. He also says public hospitals are now not comparable to private hospitals. The same goes for public schools compared to private schools.

Mashele says the book has two sections: the first is the view from outside South Africa,

which consists of indicators by the World Bank which show the country to be degenerating in a number of areas, and the other section is his views of South Africa.

In the book, he talks of an imaginary municipality where one cannot get a tender or a job unless one is close to the manager, the mayor or the ruling party.

“We said apartheid was rotten because, if you were opposed to it, you were not employed.

So, even the New South Africa is rotten if it allows such things to happen,” he says.

Elelwani Nevhuramba, a pupil from Mbilwi High, read a chapter on morality and said Mashele comes out with some convincing statements, but he does not show, in practical terms, how the situation can be turned around.

Mashele says the idea behind the book is to start a debate about the country. He feels South Africa is an intellectual desert, because intellectuals in the country have produced nothing in the form of books to assist the country to solve its problems. Local pastor releases new gospel album Ndivhaleni Mundalamo, a well-known pastor and gospel singer, made a comeback when he released a brand new gospel album this week.

The album is called Rabelani Ene, meaning “Pray God”.

at Seshego outside Polokwane, is a resident of Tshikundamalema Village in the Mutale area. He released his first music album last year.

The new album is making waves in the gospel music industry. It has hit tracks such as tanganedzani zwe na newa, I found an answer, ndi do shumela yehova, thetshelesani, kondelela u vuledze and rabeleni ene. Ms Langanani Tshilande also features on the new album.

Mundalamo started devoting his time to prodice gospel music from a very young age. He started singing at church and in 1991 he was a member of the mass choir at his church. Mundalamo became a pastor in 2001 and has worked at the Niani Reformed Church before moving to Polokwane.

His first album, Rifunane was nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA) last year but unfortunately did not win in any of the categories.

“I named my new album Rabelani Ene, as a way of encouraging people to pray to the Almighty God,” said Mundalamo.

Woman arrested after death of husband Tshitavha Village in the Nzhelele area was recently rocked, when a 47-year-old woman allegedly stabbed and killed her 50-year-old husband.

According to the police, Selinah Makuya is suspected of killing Mr Daniel Radzilani with a sharp object.

Capt Itani Muila said the incident happened early in the morning. “They had an argument that resulted in a fight. Makuya then allegedly stabbed and killed her husband. He died on the scene.”

Councillor resigns day job “I will not disappoint the community. My focus is to serve,” said a municipal councillor who had made the decision to quit a rewarding job in order to be a councillor.

This comes amid earlier reports that 17 councillors of the African National Congress had already resigned in favour of continuing with their government jobs. Eleven of these came from Limpopo and three each from Mpumalanga, Gauteng and Western Cape. The ruling party took a decision in 2007, during its 52nd national conference in Polokwane, to restrict public servants from serving as councillors.

APA (African Press Agency) reported that the resignation of the 17 cost the Independent Electoral Commission R45 000 per ward to run the by-election on September 7.

While vacant wards have to be contested in by-elections, proportional representative (PR) councillors are replaced immediately.

A report on August 1 estimated that more than 25 PR councillors of various parties had resigned in Limpopo alone (www.iol.co.za).

Geoffrey Tshibvumo, who has been a Vhembe District municipal councillor since the May elections, representing the Congress of the People. He has also been an employee of Coca-Cola Fortune for more than 10 years.

On August 1, Tshibvumo gave 30 days' notice to his employer and chose to serve the community.

Coca-Cola Fortune responded by accepting his resignation, indicating that they knew his decision was not easy.

The company’s rules do not allow an employee to accept a nomination for a political party without due permission. The permission had not been requested.

In July, Tshibvumo was asked to give notice regarding his appoint-

ment as councilor, with immediate effect, or to consider resigning from the company.

My family are in support,” said Tshibvumo, who is father to five children.

Where does Tshibvumo see himself in five to 10 years? “ In politics, you don’t deploy yourself. Too much ambition may make you sidestep the right procedures. The community will decide where I will be in five to 10 years,” Tshibvumo said.

Conductor fined for attempting to smuggle illegals A 32-year-old Zimbabwean bus conductor was sentenced to a fine of R2 800 or four months in jail on Monday for attempting to smuggle a group of border jumpers, among them children, into South Africa through the Beit Bridge Border Post.

Sobala Mabhena of Entumbane suburb in Bulawayo, who is employed by the Zebulon Express Bus Company, was convicted of assisting border jumpers by a local magistrate, Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.

Mabhena was further sentenced to four months in prison, which was wholly suspended for five years, on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period.

The court heard that on 17 August at around 21:00, Mabhena, who was travelling in a cross-border bus, was spotted by police officers patrolling the border area while in the process of assisting a group of women who intended to cross into South Africa illegally.

The women were in the company of

their undocumented children.

The officers descended on Mabhena, leading to his arrest.

Meanwhile, a Beit Bridge man was also sentenced to a fine of R1 500 or three months in jail for attempting to cross into South Africa while using someone else’s passport.

Andrew Ndlovu (25), of Dulibadzimu suburb in the border town, was convicted by Mr Karidzagundi.

The prosecutor, Mr Reason Mutimba, said that on August 17, Ndlovu went to the Beit Bridge Border Post intending to cross into South Africa.

On arrival at the border post, he presented himself to an immigration officer and produced a passport as part of the immigration formality.

The court heard that on scrutinizing the travel document, the immigration officer manning the counter discovered that the passport did not belong to Mabhena.

A report was made to the police, leading to Mabhena’s arrest. The passport, which was issued to Kenny Falala Sibanda, was seized.

Pupil knocked down by bus

Mr Geoffrey Tshibvumo, who has been a Vhembe District Municipality Councillor since the May elections.

A 15-year-old girl was knocked down by a bus while on her way to school early on Tuesday.

Perserverence Dabishi was crossing the road at Thondoni Ha-Mashau Village, when she was hit by bus belonging to Magwaba bus company.

She died at the scene.

The spokesperson for the Levubu police, W/O Solly Mukhola, confirmed that the incident took place at about 06:40. "Dabishi was on her way to school when the incident happened.

New hall for Matangwa - Manugu School Police on look-out for two rape suspects The principal, teachers and members of the school governing body of MatangwaManugu Primary in Tsianda Village expressed their joy last Friday, when a new hall was opened at the school.

The hall was built with funding donated by Old Mutual’s Thohoyandou/Giyani and Tzaneen branch.

Ms Mmboneni Bologo, principal of Matangwa-Manugu Primary, was over the moon when Old Mutual handed her the keys of the school hall.

“We will use the school hall as computer training centre for our pupils, so that they may join the

digital world in their primary education. Parents and nearby communities will also have a place where they can attend their developmental meetings,” said Bologo.

The school has 321 pupils from Grade R to Grade 4 this year.

A representative of Khosi Vho-Netsianda, Mr Mudziwa Netsianda, praised Old Mutual for its effort to fight rural underdevelopment and poverty by donating education facilities and community development projects. He said traditional leaders were ready to support any development ideas in their

areas, so that pupils and communities may better their lives.

The area manager for the Thohoyandou/Giyani and Tzaneen branch, Mr Lucky Mani, said the company was ready to fund projects that will uplift pupils and communities as part of their social responsibilities.“We understand that government alone cannot succeed in fighting poverty and unemployment if private companies such Old Mutual and others are not actively involved. When we donate funds for educational facilities, we are investing because pupils are the future leaders of tomorrow,” said Mani.

The Makhado Child Protection Unit is looking for information pertaining to a suspect who is alleged to have raped a 44-year-old woman.

It is alleged that the suspect knocked on the door of the victim while she was asleep with a young boy in Rathidili village.

He apparently insisted that the door be opened and introduced himself as a police officer who wanted to conduct a search.

According to Captain Maano Sadiki, the suspect instructed the woman to accompany him to the satellite station in Madombidzha. He said the suspect drove past the Makhado ZCC church towards Braambos, where he stopped and raped the victim.

The woman reported the incident to the police and a rape case is being investigated. An identikit has been compiled with the assistance of the victim.

In a separate case, a 36-year-old woman almost became a rape victim at Tshituni-tsha-ntha in Mphempu.

An unknown suspect broke into her house while she wassleeping and ordered her to have sexual intercourse with him while threatening her.

According to Captain Sadiki the woman

screamed for help and the suspect ran away. Police opened an attempted rape case.

A 28-year-old South African resident was arrested for allegedly locking 12 Zimbabwean boys between the ages of 14 and 16 years in a hotel room and forcing them to undress and performing sex acts, while he abused them live on camera.

The suspect, Tyron Ken Errol Naylor, then allegedly bought bicycles for his victims as payment for their services and as a way of silencing them.

It allegedly occurred at Mwenezi, outside Beit Bridge, over a period stretching from

March to the end of July this year. Naylor, who was employed by the Zimbabwe Bio-energy company as production manager, allegedly invited the boys and took them to a hotel in Mwenezi.

Last week, Naylor appeared before Magistrate Stanford Mambanje, facing a count of aggravated indecent assault and another of indecent assault.

The matter came to light on the day the boys collected their bicycles from Naylor and some of their parents had enquired as to how they got the bikes.

The parents pressed the boys to reveal why Naylor had given them the bicycles and they said he was thanking them for what he had done to them, leading to Naylor’s arrest.

The case was postponed to August 26, and he was granted US$ 100 bail.

He was also ordered to surrender his South African passport as part of the bail conditions, since it was felt he was likely to abscond to his country.

He was working in Zimbabwe on a work permit.

Argument over R2 leads to man’s death A 25-year-old Zimbabwean from Mabikwa village outside Beit Bridge was fatally assaulted by two men, following a heated argument over R2.

Local police spokesperson Insp Patrick Chademana said the incident occurred a fortnight ago at Nndandulo Business Centre. The deceased was identified as Nkosilathi Ndlovu.

Chademana said on the day of the incident, Ndlovu went to the centre where he met his two assailants, both residents of Sijadi village. The three men then started drinking beer at a local beer hall.

At around 19:30, the three men left for home and when they approached the Kana River, started arguing over R2 change which they had allegedly left at the beer hall. Chademana said the argument then degenerated into a fist fight.

“The two suspects allegedly teamed up against

Ndlovu, whom they were blaming for forgetting their R2 change at the beer hall. They started assaulting him with their fists until he collapsed,” said Chademana.

The two men continued to assault the victim as he lay helplessly on the ground, resulting in his sustaining head injuries and bruises all over the body. “The two suspects then left Ndlovu lying helplessly on the ground and proceeded to their homes. He later died and was discovered the following morning,” Chademana said.

He said the police later attended to the scene and investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects.

The body was taken to a local hospital mortuary, pending a post mortem.

Chademana said the two suspects would appear in court soon, facing murder charges.

Major boost for Grade 12’s of Nzhelele About 450 Grade 12 pupils from the Nzhelele East Circuit were given a major boost six weeks before the commencement of the final examinations.

A well-known motivational speaker, Arnold Mutshinyalo, and other stakeholders held motivational talks for them on Friday.

Mutshinyalo, the CEO of the Royal Destiny Foundation and Head of Department at Dimani High School, addressed the pupils about “Success through Hard Work” and later handed over certificates, trophies and cash to hardworking learners.

“I am from a very disadvantaged background, but I struggled hard and I am proud to say that I am achieving my dreams. The way to the top is thorny and difficult. Today you can determine your tomorrow;

your character determines your destiny,” he said.

In an interview, Mutshinyalo said he became concerned about the pupils of the circuit’s performance, which was dismal. After some research, he found out that there was a need for motivation on the part of learners and educators.

“As a foundation we are mostly focussed on motivation, but this time around we decided to give financial incentives to students. This is just a start as we hope we will be able to assist hardworking learners to register at tertiary level through our sponsors. I am a teacher and I know the frustration of a pupil who gets motivated and passes but does not have money to go to university,” he said.

Representing the student governing bodies in the circuit, Sheriff Marhubini said schools

in the area had been boosted with the support from the foundation.

“We have no excuse not to get a 70% pass rate in the circuit. This will be the best way to repay the Royal Destiny Foundation for what they have done for us,” he said.

A number of sponsors supporting his programme made a pledge to assist the pupils if they pass and want to further their studies. Three of the best pupils overall were given trophies, certificates and cash.

They are the best overall pupil, Khodani Fhedzi, of Miriyavhava High, who received R1 500, Tsifhiwa Makwarela of Amaria High (R750) and Khodani Nephawe, also of Amaria High, who received R500.

Teachers and schools were also given certificates and trophies for excellence.

A former World Boxing Champion, Phillip “Time Bomb” Ndou, recently proved that he has an open hand for needy children.

Through his recently established Time Bomb Gymnasium in Muledane near Thohoyandou, Ndou donated teddy bears and pillow cases to poor and vulnerable children of the Litshani vhana vhade ha nne Foundation.

is a Tshivenda saying, loosely meaning “let the children come to me” and is the brainchild of Ms Bridget Mamugudubi, who left her paid job at one of the furnishers in Thohoyandou to take care of poor and vulnerable children in her community. The foundation is situated in Muledane and consists of a crèche, small library, day care centre and drop-in centre for more than 200 poor and vulnerable children.

“As I have just started the gymnasium with my business partner, Rudi Prinsloo, we also train young and professional boxers. We never forget, however, to plough back into the communities, especially the young children,” said Ndou.

Mamugudubi was over the moon when Ndou donated the much-needed things. She added that Ndou was very amenable when she requested the donation.

A farmer, Mr Alson Mukhaha from Dindela-Tshimbupfe, donated vegetables from his garden to the Ndavheleseni Community Crèche at Tshilata-Ngwekhulu near Vuwani last week. They were left without any food and furniture, after burglars had broken into the crèche three times and stolen nearly everything inside.

Ms Margareth Mukwevho is the best female farmer in the Vhembe District. She received several awards during a ceremony at the Louis Trichardt Show Grounds last Thursday.

Female farmers from the different municipalities in Vhembe participated in several categories, such as top food exporter, national food producer, informal market and household food producer.

The Chief Whip of the Vhembe District Municipality, Mr Tshifhiwa Dali, was the guest speaker during the event.

He emphasised the importance of the development of farming and said it was commendable that many women were excelling at

farming. “The government will assist our farming community,” he said.

“I am impressed and happy about the role played by women in the agricultural sector in our province. That is why the national government was prompted to initiate a competition for female farmers. It is a way of encouraging women to participate in farming,” he said.

As the overall winner, Margareth said she was greatly honoured. “I am very excited. At least it is a symbol that people appreciate what I am doing. It really motivates me, and it is a challenge that I must start preparing myself to participate on provincial level,” she said.

The winner in the Fishery category, Ms Livhuwani Mathobo, went home with R5 000 and a certificate, and the second-placed Ms Selinah Tshivheahuvhi received R4 000.

The Top Entrepreneur in the commercial category was won by Ms Kate Vhengani from Musina, who received R5 000. The Top Entrepreneur: Smallholder is Ms Rebbeca Muofhe of Thulamela, who is R5 000 richer. Ms Lucy Malungana from the Makhado Municipality won the livestock category and also received R5 000.

All the winners will represent the Vhembe District in the provincial competition on a date still to be announced.

Nzhelele granny (88) burns to death

Members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) from the Musina Municipality joined thousands of other workers in the country last Wednesday by demonstrating in the local streets, demanding an 18% salary increase. They later handed a memorandum with their grievances to the local municipality.

When the 88-year-old Ms Tshililo Makwarela of Maname Paradise Village in the Nzhelele area woke up last Wednesday, everything was still fine. She later went to collect her pension grant. After collecting the pension money, the granny apparently bought some methylated spirits, which she and her husband often drank. A few hours later, she was dead.

Her husband, Mr Samuel Makongodza (52), told the police that they were sitting around the fire that morning in their one-room hut.

He then left her at home to buy electricity at the nearby Tshikuwi Village. "On my return, I was shocked to find that my wife was lying on the ground. She had burned to death," he said.

The spokesperson for the Mphephu police, W/O Lazarus Netshidzati, confirmed the incident. He said that an inquest docket had been opened with the police. "The incident happened at 10:00. When we arrived at the scene, Makwarela's lifeless body was lying on the ground in a one-room shack," said Netshidzati.

Some members of the community alleged that the old woman might have been killed before she was burned. Netshidzati, however, dismissed these allegations. He warned members of the community to stop pointing fingers at each other. "Police investigations will reveal what had really happened and if there was any foul play, then justice will take its course," he said.

He appealed to members of the community to continue working closely with the police in

the fight against crime.

The deceased's brother, Mr Mapholisa Khwerana, said that the family was saddened by the death. Makwarela will be laid to rest at a local graveyard in the village tomorrow (Saturday).

Behavioral change is the only method to fight or reduce the rate of HIV/Aids infections.

This was remarked by the executive mayor of the Vhembe District, Cllr Florence Dzhombere, during the official opening of an AIDS Council at Khoroni Hotel a fortnight ago.

Dzhombere said that the other thing was that people should also live a healthy lifestyle. “We also need foot soldiers in all sectors and in every corner of our society, to work tirelessly in educating people on how to advocate, care, treat, prevent and to break the stigma that still surrounds the epidemic."

According to her, the role of the Vhembe District HIV/Aids Council is to mobilise, coordinate, monitor and evaluate AIDS-related issues in the district.

Dzhombere added that HIV/Aids could not be overcome without concerted and well-coordinated efforts. "It’s no longer the challenge for the department of health only but a challenge for the entire nation," she added.

She said that many families were today headed by children because of the pandemic. She urged all councillors, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to assist these vulnerable children to access the government support programmes due to them.

According to her, 14% of the residents of Vhembe have contracted the disease.

Zim asylum seekers

Only one month to collect paperwork The South African government has given a month-long grace period to successful Zimbabwean asylum seekers to collect their paperwork and ruled out mass deportation of undocumented Zimbabweans living in the country.

However, the South African Department of Home Affairs said there would be no further extension of the deadline, following its expiry on July 31 to compel illegal immigrants to regularise their stay.

Scores of Zimbabweans in South Africa were panicking, following reports that the government would resume mass deportations after the 31 July deadline.

The Home Affairs spokesperson, Mr Ronnie Mamoepa, said Zimbabweans were not being targeted. “As we have said in the past, Home Affairs has not said anything about the deportation of Zimbabweans in particular. We

are not targeting Zimbabweans, but anyone who is found without legal documentation will be deported,” he said.

Mamoepa said there had been no extension to the process. “We have just given a month-long grace period to give successful applicants time to collect their paperwork; there is no extension of the deadline. Zimbabweans will be treated like any other nationalities that will be deported when found without proper documentation,” he said.

The grace period has come as a relief to many Zimbabweans, especially as the Home Affairs department is yet to finish issuing permits. More than 275 000 out of an estimated two million Zimbabweans reportedly applied for permits under the exercise, dubbed Zimbabwe Documentation Project.

In April 2009, South Africa announced a moratorium on the

deportation of Zimbabweans and granted them a special dispensation for one year, so that they could get documents from Zimbabwean officials based in South Africa.

The dispensation was to allow them to normalize their stay in South Africa.

The government later extended the registration deadline to the end of July from the initial December 31, 2010, due to delays by the Zimbabwean authorities in issuing travel documents to its citizens. South Africa has been a beacon for millions of asylum seekers from the continent, due to its liberal immigration laws and stable economy.

About one in five of the 845 800 asylum seekers registered globally in 2010 reportedly sought refuge in South Africa, according to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

Graders to improve service in Thulamela The mayor of Thulamela, Cllr Grace Mahosi, says the three graders the municipality has purchased will speed up service delivery in the municipality.

Mahosi unveiled three brand new graders, acquired for an amount of more than R6 million.

She received the keys of the three graders from Mr Peter Kaliszka, sales manager of ELB Equipment Limited. Kaliszka said his company will make sure that the municipality technicians will acquire the necessary skills so that they will be able to look after the tractors.

“We have a good track re-

cord. We have excellent aftercare service to all our clients and all our equipment has a guarantee. We will keep on giving a helping hand to the municipality, so that they get value for their money,” he said.

According to Mahosi, the purchase of the three graders is a statement "that we are committed to service delivery. This means we are ready to move fast in delivering services to our people."

Focus will now be on access roads to streets, graveyards, schools, clinics and traditional offices.

The head of the technical services at the municipality, Mr

Eric Muneri, says the machinery they had at the municipality was mostly old and was inherited from the former government.

This has compromised the municipality when it comes to service delivery. “Thulamela is the biggest in Limpopo and its terrain is one of the worst,” he says.

Muneri says the municipality has moved into the acquisition of machinery and will get about three each year. “The new machinery will mostly be dedicated to proclaimed areas such as Makwarela and Malamulele, areas which need special attention because of their bad roads,” he says.

Jail time for raping neighbour’s daugther

Hard worked paid off for park rangers of the Mapungubwe National Park when they arrested a gang of five Zimbabweans suspected of stealing the military border fence along the Limpopo River last weekend. One vehicle and trailor, a cellphone, a bolt cutter, pliers and 51 rolls of mesh military fence were confiscated by the rangers. The five suspects were arrested and handed over to the Zimbabwe Beit Bridge Police station, where a case as been opened. Photo supplied.

A 40-year-old Beit Bridge man who had raped his neighbour’s 15-year-old daughter on several different occasions was sentenced to an effective 20 years in jail.

Joseph Mudau of Madaulo Village outside Beit Bridge pleaded not guilty to the rape charges.

He was convicted by Regional Magistrate Fadzai Mthombeni and sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment, of which five years

of the sentence were conditionaly suspended for five years.

The prosecutor, Mr Johannes Tlou, said between January and April this year, Mudau went to the complainant’s home during the absence of her parents and raped the girl. During that period, it was testified that Mudau would lock up the victim in a kitchen hut and rape her, after which he would then threaten to kill her if she reported the matter.

The court also heard that the offence came to light when the victim’s mother noticed the girl having difficulty in walking and she then quizzed her, prompting the girl to reveal her ordeal. The mother, in turn, alerted the father and a report was made to the police, leading to Mudau’s arrest.

The victim was also taken to a local hospital where a medical report proved that she had indeed been raped.

Two Makhado Local Football Association soccer matches abandoned in Kutama area Two matches under the auspices of the Makhado Local Football Association were abandoned at Madombidzha and Ravele on Sunday.

The teams were supposed to play in the Sir Tshiluvhu Altec-Autopage Knock-out competition.

The first match, which was scheduled to be played at Madombidzha between Western Stars and Tshikwani Stone Breakers, did not take place as Stone Breakers refused to play. The reason for their refusal was that Stars were using player registration cards of Safa Vhembe.

According to the manager of Breakers, Tsotso Masia, the officials of the league told them during a meeting that they should use the cards which they are using when they play league matches.

“When we phoned one of the league officials, Mr Ndoda Muvhango, he told us to use Safa Vhembe cards.

When we phoned another league official, Mr George Maphala, he told us only Makhado Local Football registration cards were allowed.” Because of these conflicting answers, they decided not to play.

The second match was between

Madombidzha Arsenal and Madodonga Limpopo Proffesionals. Arsenal were supposed to play against the winner of Stars and Breakers in the group final. According to the captain of Stars, Lufuno Ndou, they were ready to play. “The league told us to use the new Safa Vhembe registration cards.”

The match scheduled at the Ravele grounds between Madombidzha Celtic and Midoroni Real Hearts did not start because Real Hearts arrived an hour late. According to the captain Celtic, Robbie Munonoka, Hearts arrived at 11:00. “The match was scheduled for 10:00, and the referee, Mr Ndifelani Mathabwe, blew the whistle to declare us the winners.

We then had to wait for the winner between Muduluni Young Chiefs and Maisa Rainbow.”

According to the referee Ndifelani Mathabwe, Real Hearts arrived one hour late for the match. The captain of Real Hearts, Mashudu Mborwedzhi, confirmed that they had arrived late.

“We arrived late, but not more than an one hour late. We know of the period of grace time. We

can’t let Celtic go through to the next stage without their playing against us,” he added.

“We were surprised that when we entered the field of play, Celtic also entered to play against Young Chiefs, after they

ing the arrest of a 26-year-old man who has allegedly been terrorizing the members of the community in the area. Mr Bolton Tshisudi, who has been wanted in connection with various cases, was arrested by the Levubu police last Tuesday.

The police had been looking for Tshisudi since last year for various instances of attempted murder, housebreaking, theft and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Levubu police spokesperson W/O Solly Mukhola confirmed that the dangerous Tshisudi was eventually arrested. “This is the man that we had been looking for, for quite some time. I am happy to announce that the man is now behind bars. No one is above the law,” said Mukhola.

He added that Tshisudi was arrested at Tshakhuma after a tip-off from the community. Mukhola applauded members of the community for the good job they are doing in the fight against crime. “I am happy that community members have joined in the war against crime. Our main objective is to create a crime-free environment for all members of the community and we therefore appreciate the residents’ involvement,” added Mukhola.

Tshisudi had escaped from the police cells last year and the police had been looking for him ever since. He briefly appeared before the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday and the case was postponed.

A humble Grade 9 learner at Mbilwi Secondary School is starting to impress his art teachers.

The 14-year-old Ndivho Ndadza from Ha Tshisele outside Thohoyandou surprised many with his artistic skills.

He can draw anything, ranging from animals to human beings, by merely looking at the subject. He surprised all and left many amazed during an art competition meant for learners in Vhembe. He started off by

beating everyone in the circuit by coming first in a closely contested competition where 38 schools participated. He went on to excel at cluster level and recently he was a marvel to watch when he went through his drawings during a competition held at the Thohoyandou Arts and Culture Centre.

He will soon be representing his cluster during a competition to be held in Musina.

Ndadza said he wants to be an engineer one day. “I am elated;

art has always been in my blood.

I emulated my brother when he used to draw things at home, and I told myself that I would one day do it.” One of the coordinators, Matodzi Rasikhinya, who is also the secretary of Thohoyandou School Arts and Culture, said they were very excited about how the competition had progressed over the years.

“There is a lot of potential here in the rural areas. We need to unearth, nurture and develop these talents,” he said.

Hundreds of loyal PAC members of Ward 33 Thulamela recently celebrated their party’s achievements during the recent local elections.

The branch, which had garnered fewer than 200 votes for the past two elections, rose to the occasion this time around when they obtained more than 1 700 votes. The councillor of the ward, Mr Thomani Thabela, said they felt they owed the electorate a big thank you for having supported the party. “We have been campaigning day and night, promising our people that we will always be there for them.

The time has come that we have to repay them for their loyalty. They voted overwhelmingly for the party and we have managed to garner more votes than ever before. For that, we are very thankful,” he said. Thabela called for more members to strengthen it by joining the party. He said the party would see to it that the youth league was doing its part and would assess the progress in the community every 12 months. He also called on women to join the party in their numbers and swell the ranks of the women’s league. Pastor Nkhelebeni Munyai of the Sharpen Word Christian Church at Manamani urged party members to strive for the return of morals in the community. “Africa will not return to its rightful owners in as long as people have lost their roots and have forsaken God. Mayor helps to clear unwanted bushes

Mayor Carol Phiri of Musina recently decided to put aside her busy schedule and lead by example by joining the municipal technical workers in debushing unwanted trees and shrubs at Musina High School.

The mayor, together with the municipal workers, spent more than two hours using lashers, axes, spades, hoes, shovels and a machine to clean up the schoolyard. The mayor says unwanted bushes are hiding places for criminals and it is important to make sure that the school yard looks as clear as possible.

“Criminals have no room in our society, and we will fight tooth and nail to make sure that they have nowhere to hide. We will continue to work with different stakeholders to make sure that Musina becomes a safe place to stay and invest.”

She says it is common knowledge that criminals take cover in the bushes while preying on unsuspecting, law-abiding citizens.

“We have a joint responsibility to create a crime-free habitat where our people will live in peace and harmony. There is now a far greater chance of criminals be-

ing exposed if our areas remain clean and clear." She says that proficient policing is an alliance between the people of Musina, the municipality and different stakeholders. “It is about all individuals in Musina accepting responsibility for their part in shining the spotlight on criminals and reducing crime and improving community safety. The only way to make criminals back off is to expose them for what they are.

Let’s turn the tide together and let the criminals become the hunted and not the hunters.”

Tshirululuni Trust officially launched

The Tshirululuni Development Trust handed over six wheelchairs to physically challenged people during the organisation's official launch at the Louis Trichardt Show Grounds a fortnight ago.

The wheelchairs were donated by the Louis Trichardt Rotary Club.

The trust, according to its chairperson, Mr Livhuwani Muthurwana, is working towards development in Tshikota, Valdezia, Taaibos and Nzhelele. He said that the trust would look into the improvement of the standard of education in those areas.

"We have sat down and realized that we needed to get involved in the education of our children," he added.

He stated that they were going to establish an educational scheme, so that they will be able to assist young people to go to school. "It is bad that young people drop out out of school because they do not have money to finance their studies," said Muthurwana. He said that the trust would also address other challenges which people were faced with in those particular communities.

Ms Veronica Tshibvumo is one of the recipients of the wheelchairs. She said that she was happy that there were people who wanted to make a difference in the community. "I really appreciate the new wheelchair," she added.

Builders restore dignity of vulnerable The dignity of vulnerable children and orphans at the Lufuno Drop-in Centre at Vhutuwa Nga Dzebu in Dzanani outside Thohoyandou has been restored.

This comes after the management of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) at Thohoyandou intervened on their behalf after assessing their stuation and solicited a donation from a well-known hardware shop.

Buy and Build Thohoyandou donated four zink toilets and two

25-litre drums of paint.

The centre, which was started in 2004, today houses more than 200 vulnerable and orphaned children.

Mr Magid Sager, manager at Buy and Build, said they were previledged to be associated with the organization.

“We are a business and we do not prosper if there are no clients.

We are just giving back what belongs to them. As a caring company, we feel it is a just gesture that will change children's

lives," he added.

The head of the centre, Ms Catherine Sithagu, said they are funded by the Department of Social Develoment, but they were still faced with many challenges, which would need a lot of funding to be addressed. She said the toilets would go a long way in improving the situation at the centre. They had toilets which were open and some without doors, which was degrading, she said.

Mr. Stephen Hoffman, chairperson of the Soutpansberg District Agricultural Union (SDAU), expressed the hope that something will finally be done with regard to copper cable theft in South Africa, seen in the light of the recent copper cable thefts which left the Gautrain stranded.

SDAU economic representative Mr ZC Pretorius added to this by stating that these thefts must be regarded as economic sabotage.

“The same as sabotage against

the Gautrain, sabotage against food security is a direct threat against all economic activity,” Pretorius said.

Pretorius’s remark follows the statement by the Minister of Energy, Dipuo Peters, last week when she said “It is sabotage, socio-economic, political sabotage.

A person who steals cables is a murderer, a thief … a saboteur.”

Pretorius said farmers had been complaining about copper cable theft for years now, but that little had been done.

“The question is whether there

is really any political will to solve the problem? If there is political will, then the government is unable to combat this type of crime,” Pretorius said. According to Pretorius, the question is still who benefits from cable theft?

“The problem will remain until such time as this question is answered. The fact that government is unable to control scrap metal shops and the export of copper is a clear indication that South Africans must start looking at a new government model,” Pretorius said.

Amajimbos beat Vhembe Region 5-0 The national U/17 team, the Amajimbos, gave the squad of the Vhembe Regional Association a free soccer lesson, when they beat the local team 5-0 at the FNB Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.

The local boys managed to match their elder brothers pound for pound in the first 20 minutes, but their original stamina vanished as the game progressed.

Things turned against Vhembe when Amajimbos started to play their normal one-touch pattern.

A scramble within the danger zone of Vhembe resulted in a goal that was registered in the name of Sizwe Khumalo in the 24th minute.

The keeper of Amajimbos, Tebogo Dlamini, was forced to stretch to the limit to save Theo Phophi’s volley. That was an insult to Amajimbos, who fought back aggressively and thus forced the domestic lads to play with their backs against the wall. Mpundo Masuku was on target to make it 2-0 in the 34th minute.

Their third goal was scored

before the break.

Amajimbos replaced Kyle Harley with Alexandra Costa three minutes into the last stanza. Vhembe introduced Andrew Kabota and sacrificed Theo Raliphada. Thulani Dube of Amajimbos threatened to score mo­ments there­after. He

received a beautiful pass from Rivaldo Coetzee and unleashed from outside the box.

The keeper of Vhembe, Mphothi Tiego, palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Siyanda Ncobo scored in the 74th and 80th minute to bring the final score to 5-0.

Can the pride of Giyani beat Amatuks?

Dynamos are gearing up for a tough National First Division League (NFD) match against the University of Pretoria at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria tomorrow afternoon.

University of Pretoria are still to lose a league match this season.

They beat Atlie FC and African Warriors 2-0 and 2-1 respectively in their two opening matches.

Although it will be their home

fixture, Tuks should keep a close eye on the Dynamos strikers Dingane Masanabo, Booler Shabalala and Joseph Mahlangu, or else they will regret it.

Mahlangu scored their wining goal when Dynamos beat Vasco da Gama 2-1 at the Giyani Stadium last Saturday.

On the other hand, the defence of Dynamos must contain the Tuks’ frontrunner, Joseph Mthom­beni, in order to avoid embarrassment.

In the other NFD matches tomorrow, Thanda Royal Zulu will host United FC, Mpumalanga Black Aces will lock horns with Atlie and FC AK will host Blackburn Rovers.

Sunday will see Sevutsa Stars meet Bay United at the Kanyamazane Stadium; African Warriors will visit FC Cape; Carara Kicks will entertain Witbank Spurs at the Charles Mopedi Stadium, while Vasco da Gama will host Chippa United.

Vuwani Zone win FNB legacy trophy The U/17 team for the Vuwani Zone of the Makhado Local Football Association (LFA) won the FNB legacy festival.

They beat the Hlanganani Zone in the final of the tournament, which was staged at the FNB Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.

The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out after the teams played to a 1-1 full-time draw.

Vuwani were presented with a floating trophy and gold medals during a ceremony that was held at the stadium shortly after the final match. The speakers who shared the podium during

the ceremony, including the president of Safa Vhembe Regional Association, Mr George Kubayi, and Mr Ronald Makhadi (Thulamela Municipality’s Manager for Sports and Recreation) praised the sponsors of the event, First National Bank.

Vuwani’s way to the final went via Mphaphuli Secondary School, whom they brutally walloped 7-0. The runners-up, Hlanganani Zone, received silver medals during the ceremony.

Hlanganani beat Phaswana Secondary School 3-1 in the semifinal stage.

The third-placed Phaswana Secondary School was presented

with bronze medals. Phaswana Secondary shocked everyone when they rose to the occasion and beat the Thulamela LFA squad 2-1 in their opening match.

In the only U/13 match that was played at the same venue on Sunday, Maniini Primary School beat Makwarela Primary School 2-0.

The coach of the national U/17 team, Mr Solly Luvhengo, was scouting for talent during the two-day event. His team beat the Vhembe Regional Association squad 5-0 at the same venue on Sunday afternoon. See a full report on the match elsewhere in the paper.

Benny’s Care into next round of Sir Tshiluvhu KO Benny’s Care Soccer Development booked a place in the next stage of the Sir Tshiluvhu Altec Auto-page KO Competition, when they beat Gogobole Bucs 1-0 at Muduluni on Sunday.

The score was not a true reflection of the game, as Benny’s were dictating terms in all departments throughout the game. Khuthadzo Simali combined well with James Masenya and Nhlamulo Siviti in the forefront. Simali committed a big blunder when he shot straight to Bucs’ stranded keeper, Rudzani Thagwana, in the 26th minute.

Benny’s took the lead in the 38th minute. Maduvha Matodzi caught the Bucs keeper off guard and blasted in a half volley from inside the box.

Bucs missed two clear chances early in the second half, with Tsie Nndwambi the culprit in both instances.

Benny’s utilized their substitution chances when they introduced Ishmael Khoza for Nhlamulo Siviti. Khoza added more life to the fading midfield for Benny’s with his dribbling skills. Bucs were forced to effect a change to their starting line-up when they replaced their injured

defender, Lutendo Ramalivhana, with Sinugo Sikhwivhilu in the 60th minute.

A midfielder of Benny’s, Lufuno Mudau, was red-carded for tackling Try Sebola from behind. Fhatuwani Tshehisi was lucky to escape with a yellow card after tackling the Benny’s midfielder, Pfarelo Musiwa, roughly. This happened in the 70th minute. Oscar Nenguda of Bucs was red-carded for insulting the referee, Timothy Thamaha, in the 82nd minute.

Tsie Nndwambi of Bucs should have equalised two minutes before the end of the match, but he shot wide.

What was envisaged to be a normal Sunday service by members of the United African Apostolic Church (UAAC) at Mpheni on Sunday, turned out to be a most memorable Sunday as UAAC Archbishop Elias Muthuhadini Mureri (photo) paid a surprise visit at the church‘s Block C branch. The branch members, under the leadership of Branch President Mulea, could not believe their eyes when their leader made his way into their modest place of worship.

The main objective of the visit was to monitor the congregation, especially the youth. Mureri encouraged the youth to continue spreading the Word of God through music. Before the closure of the day‘s proceedings and departure, the stylish Mpheni choir, led by Mr Eric Ramutsheli and Mr Godfrey Khomola, took to the stage and sang for the archbishop. Members of the public are invited “to see the miracles during the annual general conference at the UAAC quarters from September 23 to 25”.

Church news

UAAC supports the orphans at Klipgat For a third successive year, the United African Apostolic Church has reached out to those in need as part of its community outreach initiative.

Earlier this month, the church joined hands with the Mabo Project, which caters for orphans, childheaded families and those affected by HIV-Aids and arranged a special day for the needy children at Klipgat, near Pretoria. As part of this collaboration, the church donated food parcels and clothes to more than 250 children. The giant food chain, Shoprite, donated bread and soup and Willards Foods donated several boxes of snacks to the children.

The social responsibility drive is carried out each year pursuant to Archbishop Mureri ‘s call during the National Youth Conference in Vlleifontein in June 2008 that the UAAC should extend a hand of assistance to those in need, especially orphans and those affected by HIV/Aids.

UAAC members spent the whole day with the children, playing soccer, skipping rope and dancing with them. A hired jumping castle also provided much-sought enjoyment for the conspicuously jubilant children.

Rev Uriah Lirumo, the head of UAAC Youth Ministry, commended Mr Thabo Geldenhuis, the Mabo Project Manager, and his team for being at the centre of such a worthy cause, caring for those in need. He challenged church members to emulate the humanity shown by the Mabo Project.

Lirumo also encouraged the children to concentrate on education in order to ensure success in life.

He urged them to refrain from using drugs, alcohol and succumbing to peer pressure.

Valuable points for Leopards After losing their first two league matches, Black Leopards registered their first victory by beating Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-0 in their Absa Premiership League match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening.

Leopards put their two new signees, David Banda and Kingston Nkatha to the test by including them in the starting eleven. Leopards’ midfielder, Khethowakhe Masuku, was temporarily taken off the pitch

on the stretcher after sustaining injury in the 5th minute. Arrows capitalized on his absence and created promising moves. Hlahla Zotwane missed a sitter in the 8th minute when he had the Leopards’ keeper, Postnet Omony, to beat.

Arrows missed an obvious chance, Leopards’ Moses Kwena was reprimanded with a card, following an illegal tackle on Collins Mbesuma.
