Tanya Laban * By Ntsieni Tshisevhe
She’s got looks to die for, but don’t let that fool you. She is the singing sensation who hails from Zimbabwe. Ladies and gentlemen, I am talking about the one and only Tanya Laban. Her velvet voice will leave you dazzled and reduced to the ground. She also landed the contract with Makoya Multi-Media as a lead vocalist who is going to be featured on a Stereo Lab project under courtesy of Makoya Multi-Media. Let’s get up close and personal! * Hello Tanya and thank you for making time to talk to us! Thanks Guys and its great to be on board. * Tell us about the “then” Tanya, before all this Tanya: My name is Tanya Laban, I come from Zimbabwe and I was born in the small town of Marondera, where I did my primary at Dombotombo school. I came to SA for the first time in 2006. * How did it all start, I mean your music career? Tanya: to be honest with you, I always wanted to be a lawyer, and only did pieces of entertainment in modeling, and that’s it. Then later, at the age of fourteen, I started singing at church back in Zimbabwe as a lead singer and also at Westhood College as a lead singer as well. Since then I have been writing my own materials, mostly in Shona. I got my first professional break here in SA and now it’s a dream come true, all thanks to Makoya. * In Zimbabwe, house is not big, how are you coping? Tanya: It’s kinda scary, but a wonderful experience at the same time. I mean, I never heard of the genre back in Zimbabwe and never thought I would ever like it, but here I am. When Ambrose from Makoya contacted me it was scary and I thought it was too good to be true, and thought its never going to be this big. I guess I should go
by the saying “everything happens for a reason”. I am grateful of the team I am working with and they make things look simple, can I ask for anything better? * Did you ever think that one day you would go professional? Tanya: I always believed in myself, but I never thought it will be this soon. My late aunt Norah always told me that I was crafted for this and I think somehow she made me go for it. She made me realize my talent and made sure that I went for it without looking back. I thought it was going to happen around the age of 27 or above, and this gives one more chance to grow in music as an artist. I mean, I am working with great personalities from all walks of life. The likes of Ambrose, Thato and Ngerezah both from SA, Albert from Kenya and here I am from Zimbabwe. It’s more like an African concept, watch the space! * Are we going to see a different Tanya now? Tanya: I am not going to change how I feel, although I might see things differently due to more experience, but that wont change how I see life. I am still a girl who fears GOD and always will be. I might live my dream but I won’t change my craft, I can only learn new things. * Any artist you would like to work with from Zimbabwe? Tanya: Yes of course, I would like to work with Stunner from Zimbabwe. He has a great personality and does things his way, and no matter what people talk of him it doesn’t get him down. I definitely would like to do something with him! * Your message to the youth out there! Tanya: Stay real; don’t let change force you to be who you are not. * Thank you Tanya and we wish u all the best! Tanya: thank you Makoya and thank you for having me.
Behind the scene Exclusive,
TSHISIMA TSHA VHUMBULU Thohoyandou based production company NW AudioVisual is currently shooting a movie titled Tshisima Tsha Vhumbulu. The movie is based on highlighting a number of social issues including male abuse, abuse of powers by women, and abuse of powers by the police heads who use the state resources to run their businesses. We had a behind the scene preview of the movie. The main character – Vho Bennie, who was working hard in the city of Johannesburg and later resigned and came back home after he was phoned by a friend who asked him to get a transfer and come back home. He’s married to a beautiful woman and they ware blessed with a beautiful daughter “Khuthadzo” who’s working as a nurse. Things get worse when Bennie’s sister “Vho Mbulaiseni” discovered that “Mafa”, Bennie’s wife is sleeping with the police captain, Mr. Makheda. To make things worse, “Khuthadzo”, Bennie’s daughter wanted her fake tenderpreneur boyfriend (Lazzie) who’s
originally from Polokwane to come stay at home with them. It got even worse still, after Mr. Makavhavhe was suspended from work, a police officer who was always out fighting crime. He suspected that Mr. Makheda had something to do with his suspension as he was framed. Mr. Makavhavhe became suspicious of his wife “Mapule” who’s working as a domestic worker at Bennie’s house, that she is sleeping with Vho Bennie as she always spoke about him. Not to give much away, the movie goes in depth to expose the tangles which most people could relate to. The cast consists of a range of familiar faces, including Samantha Hlayisi, a 09h00-12h00 presenter at Univen fm, week days, who plays Khuthadzo. The movie is scheduled to be released in the second half of the year, make sure you get it.
