Although his appointment at Black Leopards took effect yesterday, 1 October, Mr Ramunenyiwa revealed that the 55-year-old mentor was likely to land in the country sometime next week.

Mr Ramunenyiwa further revealed that Mr Aussems was busy sorting out his travelling documents, a process that he said was likely to take about two weeks because of the Covid-19 regulations in Belgium. He repeated that, after scrutinizing his CV, the management was convinced that they had appointed the right man to the post.

He revealed that they had entered into a three-year contract with Mr Aussems. Mr Aussems takes over from Mr Alan Clark, who resigned from the position about two months ago. Mr Ramunenyiwa further stated that Mr Morgan Shivambu would continue to work as assistant coach while the management was still to decide on the future of Mr Mongezi Bobe. Mr Bobe was the head coach of the Multichoice Diski Challenge team last season.

Univen’s UIGC workers are on strike, demanding a 7,5% salary hike

By Silas Nduvheni Some 300 employees of the University of Venda’s Univen Innovative Growth Company (UIGC), mostly working as security guards, general workers, and cleaners at the university’s Barotta farm in Tshakhuma, are on strike.

Earlier this week, the workers protested outside the entrance gate of the university, demanding a salary increase of 7.5%.

A security guard working at Barotta farm, Mr Erick Khathutshelo Ndou, said they wanted the UIGC to pay them a decent salary. He said they usually earned about R2 000 a month, while other security guards working inside the university premises were getting salaries of more than R6 000

per month.

“Our normal schedule of working 21 days a month has been reduced to 15 days or less, which causes us to earn less money. When we tried to inform our manager, she sent us from pillar to post, saying she cannot help us,” said Ndou.

Ndou said the company also did not take them seriously in terms of giving them uniforms they should wear when going to work.

Another security guard, Mr Victor Mabada, who is also the chairperson of the Academic and Professional Staff Association (APSA) in the area, said they had received permission to strike from the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) after having unsuccessfully tried to engage with the UIGC about

the matter.

He said they had not been given provident fund contributions, any bonuses or salary increases for many years.

Mabada said workers who were contracted to the university had been offered permanent positions by the university some four years ago, but the UIGC staff members were not included.

Univen spokesperson Dr Takalani Dzaga said they were aware of some of the problems raised by the UIGC workers.

He said that management was looking into the matter and an amicable solution could hopefully be found.

Dzaga said, however, that the strike was illegal because the management at UIGC had lodged an appeal with the CCMA.

Vhutshilo Mashige is on the run.

The Tshilwavhusiku police are searching for a trial-awaiting prisoner who escaped from the cells at the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday.

The suspect, Vhutshilo Mashige (30), was arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Ms Takalani Tshilamulele, who was found murdered in some bushes next to a bridge at Ravele in November 2018.

After the incident, Mashige had been on the run for two weeks but was later brought to the police by his mother.

Mashige allegedly escaped by forcing open

the door of the cell, after which he disappeared. According to police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the police are conducting an internal investigation.

The police have appealed to people not to attempt to arrest the suspect in case they meet him, saying he is extremely dangerous. They should instead report his whereabouts to the nearest police station. Mojapelo said additional charges of escaping from custody had been opened.

The police are appealing to members of the community to assist with information that can lead to the re-arrest of the escapee.

Precious Ramabulana’s suspected killer and rapist remains in custody

By Kaizer Nengovhela The Morebeng Magistrate’s Court postponed the murder, rape and theft cases against Aubrey Manaka (28) when he appeared in court again last Wednesday.

Manaka was arrested in November last year for allegedly killing the 21-year-old Capricorn TVET college student, Precious Ramabulana. She was

found dead in her off-campus room at Botlokwa. She had been raped and stabbed multiple times.

When he was arrested a few days after the incident, Manaka was allegedly found in possession of Ramabulana’s cell phone, bloodstained clothes, and a sharp object.

Following her gruesome death, President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the family at Maname Paradise in the Nzhelele

area to give them support. He also promised to build them a house.

The National Prosecuting Authority said Manaka was facing two counts of rape, involving Ramabulana and a four-year-old child in 2014, murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and housebreaking with intent to rape.

The case was postponed to 27 November.

Limpopo police arrested 1 574 suspects for various offenses during joint operations conducted across the province in the week leading up to 28 September.

Among them was a 14-year-old girl who was arrested on a charge of perjury after she had opened a false case of kidnapping at the Tzaneen police station on Friday, 25 September.

The teenager informed the police that she and her friend, a learner at Meridian College in Tzaneen, had been walking from school when unknown suspects driving a white panel van had grabbed her friend and forced her inside the vehicle.

This according to a press statement issued by the police on Monday.

“The matter was prioritised and duly treated with urgency, only to establish that the case was based

on a fabricated story. Preliminary investigations revealed that there was never a kidnapping and she was not even with a friend,” reads the statement.

The other suspects, aged between 19 and 57, the statement continues, were arrested for charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, sexual assault, assault GBH, assault common, sexual offences, burglary residential, burglary business, stock theft, arson, malicious damage to property, shoplifting, theft, dealing in drugs, driving under the influence of liquor, illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions, possession of illicit cigarettes, illegal immigration, to poaching, pointing out someone as a witch, failure to comply with maintenance order, violation of a protection order, public drinking and non-compliance with the liquor-related act, to contravention of

the regulations under the Disaster Management Act and the Road Traffic Act. The operations were conducted through roadblocks, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, raiding of illegal businesses and intensive patrols. Police managed to confiscate items, including 707 620 cartons of illicit cigarettes, 25 dangerous weapons, 8 180 grams of dagga, 2 907 grams of nyaope drugs, 12 firearms, 46 knives, 2 596 520 ml liquor and stolen vehicles. In total, 348 crime-awareness campaigns were conducted, while 2 821compliance inspections took place at liquor outlets. Some 23 drug operations, 215 liquor-control operations, 86 roadblocks, 152 rural safety operations, and 3 983 stop-and-searches were undertaken, while 290 domestic-violence complaints were investigated. Mande was remanded in custody and will appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 September. He will appear in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court on 13 October, facing three charges of armed robbery and business burglary.

“Police investigations continue,” said Brigadier Mojapelo in the press release.

Mvenda Wa Ha Ndou, the founder of the online radio station that will be launched in mid-October.

Ndou’s first encounter with the music industry was via a learnership under the Media, Advertising, Publishing, Printing and Packaging Sector Education and Training Authority. From 2006 to 2007, he worked at the NW Audio Visual company based in Thohoyandou. The following year (2008), Ndou established his own media company called Musengavhadzimu Media.

Now he also wants to extend his experience to an online radio station.

Speaking to Limpopo Mirror, Ndou said, “I have noted that there are many community radio stations around Vhembe, but they do not offer training. Once we start in October, we will also offer training to those that we have engaged.”

Punda Maria Channel R524 will offer a free seven-month training option that is accredited to the Media Information and Communication Technology Sector Education and Training Authority (Mict Seta).

Ndou added that he would engage other experienced professionals to assist in training his students.

Villagers march over ritual murders

By Silas Nduvheni Community members from Tshitavha Tsha-Sambandou and Tswera villages in the Makuya policing area braved the hot weather on Saturday to stage a peaceful march to the homes of the traditional leaders of the area.

The march was aimed at highlighting the problem of ritual murders in the area.

The protestors planned to hand over a memorandum of their grievances to Headman Fhatuwani Mundalamo of Tshitavha Tsha-Sambandou and Headman Azwitamisi Netswera, but neither of these was present. The group then gathered at the Tshitavha Tsha-Sambandou sports grounds before deciding to go to the Makuya police station. Rumour had it that the two traditional leaders went to the police station because they were afraid of being victimised by their communities.

A community leader representing the two villages, Mr Livhuwani Netswera, said they would not rest until their areas were free of ritual murders. “We have invited members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Vhembe region to help us with our struggle against ongoing ritual murders in our area,” said Netswera.

missing. His body was later discovered hanging from a tree in the Sambandou mountains. Some community members reckoned this was not a suicide and that the young man was ritually murdered.

According to Netswera, they were worried that police officers at Ha-Makuya and Tshilamba seemed to lack the capacity or skills to tackle the challenges.

The protesters handed over the memorandum of grievances to representatives of both the Tshitavha Tsha-Sambandou and Tswera traditional leaders at the Makuya police station. They gave them seven days to respond to their demands.

VCCI wants the new SEZ to be fast-tracked

By Bernard Chiguvare The Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone project (SEZ) should not be delayed any further, as this is going to have a negative impact on the business sector, said Albert Jeleni, president of the Vhembe Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Jeleni said projects such as this SEZ stimulated business and entrepreneurs would be quick to explore the opportunities. “It is either people rent a place to do business, borrow money to start running a business or hire plants in anticipation of benefiting from the bigger project.

If this takes time, businesspeople will lose in the process. We are of the view that the project should start very soon,” said Jeleni.

The Musina/Makhado SEZ is a highly controversial development, not only because of the involvement of Chinese developers, but also because of the expected environmental impact.

The development is planned in a water-scarce area and no credible solution has yet been found regarding water to provide in the needs of the planned factories.

The Vhembe Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) is pushing for an accelerated schedule to develop the project. The VCCI was registered in June 2019 but claims to represent the local business community.

According to Jeleni, the chamber is affiliated to the Limpopo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is affiliated to the National Union of Municipal Chambers of Commerce and Industry at national level. The VCCI is an umbrella body for four districts: Collins Chabane, Musina, Makhado, and Thulamela District Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking on speculations about the farmers who are already engaged in agricultural activities in the SEZ, Jeleni said, “Development requires a trade-off. It is up to us to look at the more beneficial activities that need to be done in that particular area, and how else we can compensate for the lesser economic developments that were there prior. In this case if we look at agriculture, it has improved over the years in terms of technology.”

Jeleni said that new farming techniques, such as growing vegetables in greenhouses, could be used and the land that is currently being used for farming can be made available for the SEZ. “Some of the money in terms of social responsibility can easily be ploughed into projects. We do believe that as long as all parties are participating and all alternatives are looked into, it will be possible to find a point that is relevant for a trade-off,” he said.

“I believe that it is critical that we move quickly to find solutions that are equally beneficial to all parties,” he said.

I will never sell it, because it is the only valuable property I ever owned in my life. This bakkie is now 42 years old. It was built in 1978 when most of the young people were not yet born. But despite its age, it is still roadworthy, strong, and very reliable.”

This is what Mashudu Rantsana of Maraxwe village says about his Toyota 12R bakkie. He explains that the bakkie is the centre of attention wherever he goes. “There are few cars of its age around here.

In fact, it is the only one in our vicinity. That is why everyone wants to buy it from me, even when it is not for sale. Even if

someone brings a bag full of money, I would never part ways with it. This is a very strong car which does not disappoint. Hei goloi ngoho i ya fulufhedzea (loosely translated: this car is really faithful).”

Rantsana says the roads in his area are gravel, bumpy and in bad condition. “It loves these types of roads because it was made of hard steel. When going uphill, I sometimes wonder what is happening because it does not show any sign of pulling hard. One other thing I like about this car is that it does not consume a lot of petrol.

If I put R150 worth of petrol in the tank, I would travel for days without minding about any refill. Hedzi ndi goloi dza zwisiwana (this type of car is for the poor).”

He said he had previously owned a similar bakkie, but he

had sold it years ago to acquire the present one. “Although it needs some repainting, everything is in a perfect condition and I never feel intimidated when I take a trip. Just one kick, then it goes like a bullet.

I can even go to Johannesburg with it and come back today without any problems. It is a work horse that does not need a lot of maintenance. As a farmer, this car comes in handy because I use it to carry my products that I sell to the public from village to village.”

Asked if he would give it to someone to drive, Rantsana said: “That can be very difficult, but it would only be possible in emergency and unavoidable situations. This car is part of my life and giving it to someone else would be like cutting off one of my body parts while I’m still alive.”

The case was postponed to 1 October for a formal bail application. The accused all remain in custody.

Several Indian businessmen from the area have been targeted by thugs since August and September this year, causing widespread panic among the business community.

During one of the recent incidents, Mr Akram Patel (33), a resident of Thohoyandou Block F and businessman in Itsani village, was attacked and shot in the left forearm while thugs robbed him of his money.

“I thank God to be alive, because on the day of the incident, 4 September, I was coming from the shop in Itsani village to my home in Thohoyandou Block F,” he said. Patel noticed a vehicle behind him, a black Citi Golf without number plates. “I suspected they could be thugs wanting to rob me of my money,” said Patel.

Patel said he decided to run towards the “All in one Supermarket” in Thohoyandou Block F, because many of the Indian traders assemble there, but the thugs blocked him off. The robbers shot him in the arm before getting away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Blaque Coca rules with verses

“As an artist I create hip-hop music, but then I dabble in poetry and various genres of music with the easiness of a versatile artist,” she said. “I am also a spokesperson for ‘living with Vitiligo’ groups as I too am living with the skin condition.”

She discovered her talent in 2011 when she had successfully attempted to translate her opinions and experiences into music. “Music is an incredible platform to inject positive change among South Africans,” she said. “Music is a platform to educate, inspire, motivate and even bring joy, peace and love where needed. It is a channel to release emotions and regain power over your life.”

Art & Entertainment Mjelo’s music vibrates with life

Tshivhandekano Ndivhuwo, known as Mjelo in the music industry, is one rare artist whose voice and subject matter complement each other in such a way that people are rarely untouched by his music.

A resident at Gondeni Sterkstroom village outside Thohoyandou, Mjelo is a reggae and dancehall musician. The musical journey started at an early age for this artist, when he was still at primary level, where he used to sing with his friends imitating other well-known artists.

As a boy, he sang in the Thase Secondary School’s choir, which had turned out to be the most successful choir after winning multiple awards in a period of two years. “The two years’ journey with the school choir played a very significant role in my musical career, since it was like a promotion from amateur level,” he said.

Later in his life, Mjelo formed a music group DJ Masite and Gondeni Boys with his friends, which became famous around Vhembe District for hit tracks such as Ndi khou dala and Kha mmbudze ri vha ngana.

At one stage Mjelo relocated to Pretoria for academic purposes and that was where he recorded his first album, entitled New Creature. “The project really portrayed me as a very gifted artist in the music industry,” he said. “In 2016, I changed genres from gospel to Afro-Pop and RnB when I released my popular album entitled Let’s carry on, which contained two hit tracks, namely Jealousy and Let’s

carry (ft Mr Rhymes).”

Mjelo is delighted that his vision as a musician is becoming a reality since he is a rising star on an international platform. People from Europe recently supported him after he had released his hit track Nyimele.

“I even won a space for interview with the Glowing Immigrants with Chantallee Dunbar from the USA,” he said.

For Mjelo, music can be a mouthpiece for the underprivileged and a weapon to fight against inequality. “In other words, it is the most effective medium of communication that can bring about a rapid change for the betterment of humanity,” he said.

“Lastly, I can say music brings races and generations together only if it does not go against the purpose of human creation.”

Local hip-hop star continues to churn out the great hits Entertainment When the history book of Tshivenda hip-hop music is written, the name of Mpho Adolf Mutshidzi will appear in a special chapter. The reason is simple; this young man has played a major role in promoting this music genre that many people initially took for granted.

Popularly known by his stage name of Adolf Mr Thohoyandou, Mutshidzi’s lyrics depict true-life stories of something that either happened to him or to someone close to him.

With four successful albums under his belt, the hip-hop star is claiming his rightful space

in the tough music industry.

Besides the four albums, he has in the past dropped several successful mixtapes with seasoned artists such as Mizo Phyll and Bamba.

As the saying goes that local is lekker, Mutshidzi was born and bred in Muledane, just a stone’s throw away from the Thohoyandou CBD. He started his musical career in 2006 at the age of 16 after drawing inspiration from his role model, the legendary Mizo Phyll.

His first album, Mbilu i kha dirwa, was released in 2014. It carried hit songs such as Khotsi anga and Kumvu mulamboni, featuring Bhamba. At the time of its release, Mbilu i kha

di rwa conquered the local airwaves by receiving rotational play at various radio stations.

He said his second album, Munna ndi nnyi, had been released in 2016. “Following the foundation laid by my first album, Munna ndi nnyi also did well in the music industry.

This encouraged me to return to the studio in 2018 to release my third album, entitled Starring. In February this year, my fourth album, Phakhama, hit the shelves.”

Besides nurturing his music career, Mutshidzi empowers more than 20 upcoming artists by offering them reasonable rates at his recording studio.

According to C-Man, Hold On tries to discourage people from quitting, but instead to keep focusing on the positive side of life. “This world is saturated with people who always quit,” he said. “People always leave unfinished projects. People have good plans and ideas, but when they meet real challenges along the way they quit. Now this track encourages people to soldier on.”

Mavin Kanyawayi, formerly well-known as Slo Tizo, is a promising upcoming reggae dancehall artist. He is a fourth-year student at LUANAR, pursuing a bachelors’ degree in general agriculture. Kanyawayi has the power of anticipation which has long since seen him thriving without a support system in his music career.

Phalaphala FM staff dance to the Jerusalema tune Staff members at the SABC’s Polokwane office celebrated Heritage Day last Thursday on an energetic note, dancing to Master KG’s hit song, Jerusalema.

The dancing took place at SABC Park in Polokwane, which was a strategic venue chosen to enhance publicity. No fewer than 30 SABC staff members attended the dance, including members of the PMC, Sharon Ravele, Madikana Matjila and Gibson Sekgala, all led by the PGM, Mr Freddy Sadiki.

The SABC Limpopo Combo, Phalaphala FM, Munghana Lonene and Thobela FM, organised the event in response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for the nation to celebrate its heritage by taking part in the Jerusalema dance challenge. Ramaphosa encouraged South Africans during his virtual 2020 national Heritage Day keynote address to continue celebrating unity and setting worldwide trends.

The gospel-influenced song, Jerusalema, was recorded by South African producer Master KG, with Zulu lyrics by Nomcebo. The song was released at the end of last year and slowly gained popularity. Earlier this year, it became an internet sensation with groups of people from across the world dancing to the catchy tune.

Millions of people took videos of themselves dancing and these videos were shared on social media platforms.

Speaking on behalf of the organising team, Munghana Lonene FM’s marketing manager, Ms Vongi Nkanyane, said that they were all left in awe of the amazing response received from colleagues, especially the morning drive teams “who, in spite of the fact that they started work at 05:00,” participated until the end.

“Our targeted attendance was initially 20 people and we pushed way beyond that number, and we are grateful for that. Initiatives like today’s are key to the SABC Combo as they illustrate our diverse cultures,” said Nkanyane.

She thanked the staff members of the SABC Combo for their enthusiasm and participation.

The idea behind the dance challenge was to bring the community together, following a few rough months since the pandemic hit.

“They call it the Jerusalema challenge, but it is more a significance of people coming together with a purpose, to be able to express themselves. And I think we all need expression during this time after all those months of no expression. It gets very deep. So, this was a wonderful way just to come out of it and have a good time,” said Nkanyane.

Confidence’s plea for a publisher reached its intended destination Social media users will recall the image of a young woman sitting on a tyre at the side of the road, with a banner proclaiming: “Help Me Publish My Book”.

Advertising still works, apparently, and this story has a very definite silver lining.

The picture was posted on Facebook for the first time on 23 July, by Confidence Mukhari (25) alias Nyiko Yaka Shilumani, of Phalaborwa in Limpopo, asking Facebook followers to share it “until it reaches where it is supposed to reach”.

The post has since been shared more than 13 000 times, even by self-proclaimed publishers, until two weeks ago when it reached HELPU-PUBLISH Afrika founder Thokozani Magagula. Now, with the help of the Moripe Group, Confidence’s dream of being a published poet is about to come true.

Thokozani said he was pleasantly surprised to discover that Confidence had

“For printed books, she will merely have to supply us with the names and addresses of the people who ordered the books directly from her, and we will print and send the books,” said Groep7 director Illette Strydom. “Through this process, authors are then invoiced with the printing and courier costs, which they deduct from money paid to them for orders, leaving them with their profits. Confidence will set her own price for the book.

An elated Confidence said many people had contacted her after seeing her post, some claiming to be publishers.

They promised to help, but later asked for cash and vanished when they realised she could not pay.

“I sat on that tyre every day for a week, at various busy intersections of Phalaborwa,” she said. “Motorists hooted and pedestrians offered

encouragement and support.

But as time went on, I stopped because no one offered any tangible help. My hopes were now on the post, which I knew people kept sharing. A tiny voice kept telling me it will eventually reach the right people. I am so grateful it did.”

Confidence said her collection of poems is entitled Vantshwa Va Ximanjhemanjhe and is about the wayward lives of young people of today, how they behave and interact with the world around them and the dire consequences of the decisions they take. She wrote 35 of the 45 poems in the book; the others were contributed by fellow poets Bornwise Maenetja and Vinolia Mabasa.

Based on an analysis of a few consumer accounts, meter readings in certain parts of town were done on 31 January, 2 March, 21 April, 14 May, 4 June, and 5 August.

In most cases this meant that consumers received a fairly moderate bill for July, but then it almost trebled in August.

Remuneration: All-inclusive remuneration package from R972 648 (minimum) or R1 108 275 (midpoint) or R1 257 894 (maximum) per annum (as per Government Gazette No. 43122).

Requirements: An appropriate Bachelor of Science Degree/B-Tech in Engineering or equivalent * 5 years’ experience at middle management level, or as programme/project manager.* 3-4 years must be at professional / management level engineering management experience.

• Certificate of competency as required in terms of the General Machinery Regulations, 1988 or registration with a recognised relevant engineering professional body will serve as an added advantage.

Knowledge: Good knowledge and understanding of relevant policy and legislation. * Good knowledge and understanding of institutional government systems and performance management.*Must have extensive knowledge of the public office environment and * Must be able to formulate engineering master planning project management and implementation.

Key Performance Areas: *Manage complex civil infrastructure projects from conceptualization, design contract management, quality assurance and compliance, and ensure their proper integration to the District’s overall plan (IDP).* Perform financial monitoring through commissioning, operations and maintenance to ensure effective and efficient functioning of the Department within the budgetary constraints of the municipality.*Manage the Municipality Grants eg MIG, WSIG, ACIP, RBIG and Expanded Public Works Programme, Manage Institutional and Social Development., Enhancement of Cost Recovery and reduction of water loss * oversee the management of all equipment and capital resources to ensure accountability by the Department: * Manage and source all the Department’s contracts and tenders according to the approval SLAs, Council requirements and procurement policy, ensuring adherence to the SLAs, terms of reference, letter of appointment and contracted project time lines as per project brief. * Lead and direct staff in the Department to ensure that they meet the objectives in line with the municipality’s requirements and resources constraints. *Manage, control and disciples staff within the Department: *Ensure the provision and management of a potable water supply and sanitation in the areas of the Municipality’s Jurisdiction, according to national guidelines, ensure disposal of Sewage affluent in line with the National guidelines.

Alfred Mafukaduvha Foundation celebrates Heritage Day in style

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho The Alfred Mafukaduvha Foundation celebrated Heritage Day in a special manner by donating food parcels to 100 households at Mudimeli village.

The foundation’s founder, who is also a community builder of note, Mr Alfred Mafukaduvha, said that the foundation had continued to reap cultural knowledge from the elderly, so ensuring that the elderly also reaped some rewards in the form of food parcels from the foundation was important.

“We are very happy to have elders among us, for they

continue to share indigenous knowledge with us, thus helping preserve our heritage and culture,” he said. “We get more joy when we extend our help to them.”

The food parcels included mealie meal, rice, sugar, washing powder, peanut butter, milk powder, canned fish, cabbages, and potatoes.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms Johana Maphutha, acknowledged the help they had received from the foundation and said that the food parcels had come at a time they were needed most.

“We are very happy with the food parcels that the foundation has provided, and

we would like to thank them,” Maphutha said. “We pray that they continue to help where they can.”

During the event, the elderly and other attendees were treated to traditional cuisine, which included mashonzha, mukusule, thophi, tshidzimba, dovhi, and mukonde (vhuswa).

to provide for the family, run the tuck shop, lead the church and, at the same time, work in the fields to generate some income. This sounds very heavy, but I had to do it because life had to go on despite the pain of losing my husband,” says the courageous widow.

She says by the grace of God, her hard work is paying off because things are looking better for her three children.

“Although I still want them to be more successful in life, I’m happy that none of them solely depends on me for survival. One of them is in the health profession, another one in the electrical field while the other one is in the transport field. As a strong believer in God, I know that He will still

bless me with many things because I am a hard worker who supplements my hard work with prayer.”

Grace encourages other widows to stand up and raise their children instead of mourning for their deceased husbands endlessly. “Yes, I will never forget the pain of losing my beloved husband, but there are children who should be provided for. I therefore call on all women in a similar situation to join me and show the world that, as widows, we can work hard, raise and provide for our children with dignity. Hard work has never killed anyone.

The mentality of depending on handouts should be a thing of the past to all widows.”

An inspiring message of hope for all widows who have lost their loving husbands comes from a hardworking widow, Grace Tendani Mathoho, who lost her husband in 2018.

Despite the hardships and challenges that come with becoming a single parent unexpectedly, Grace had to stand up to raise her three children without the support and love of her deceased husband. She does so by working in the fields to produce sweet potatoes, maize meal, and vegetables that she sells along the busy roadside of her village in Tshiombo. Besides selling her stuff on the road, she also operates a tuck shop in her yard.

“When my husband Nelson passed on, I had a huge responsibility to make sure that the legacy of his family did not die with him.

My husband was also a pastor of the Together in Love Christian Church and I had to fill his boots to continue with the Grace Tendani Mathoho and her adopted son, Rofhiwa Macheke, with ministry. This meant that I had some of the sweet potatoes they sell next to the busy road at Tshiombo.

“It was not our responsibility to pay the players’ salaries”- TTM Players from Bidvest Wits FC who had been left without their salaries for almost two months, had apparently been paid earlier this week.

The salary dispute was, however, settled by the previous owners of the club and not by TTM. The

past weekend several players of The Clever Boys were reported not have received their salaries for September. The franchise for Bidvest Wits was sold to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) about two months ago.

The reports created confusion among the supporters of TTM, who were not sure if their club was unable to pay the players’ salaries before the new season started.

According to one of the affected players, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimization, some of the players

received part of their salaries over the weekend while others got nothing.

When clearing the air, TTM’s communications manager, Mr Tshidino Ndou, said that the responsibility to pay the players’ salaries for the month of September did not lie with TTM. According to him, the previous owners were responsible to foot the salary bill for the players until the end of September, with the clear arrangement that TTM would take over on 1 October.

Tshidino’s statement was confirmed by a written agreement entered into by the management of Bidvest Wits and the players last month. Limpopo Mirror is in possession of a copy of the agreement. In the agreement, Bidvest Wits FC undertook to pay the players’ full salaries until the end of September.

Realising that the club had reneged on the agreement, the aggrieved players took the matter up with the players’ union as a matter of urgency.

The Deputy Secretary of the South African Players Union, Mr Calvin Motloung, confirmed receipt of the complaint from the Wits players. When asked to comment about the matter, the chairman of Bidvest Wits FC, Mr Alan Fainman, revealed that all the players had received their outstanding salary payments on Tuesday, bringing the matter to a close.
