Sidimela told Limpopo Mirror in an exclusive interview earlier this week how Muvhuso Morgan Nyadzani (23), the man accused of murdering W/O Mbulaheni Mulanduli (57), arrived at her consulting room this weekend. He was accompanied by his uncle, Azwihangwisi Nethengwe (36).

“I was still fast asleep on Sunday morning when one of my granddaughters awoke me at about 6:00, saying there were two young men who needed the help of a sangoma.

When we entered the room, I asked which one of the two needed my help, as I am a sangoma who helps and sometimes cures people of dangerous diseases,” said Sidimela.

R5.5 million Lotto grant paid into mystery account

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho and Anton van Zyl A Louis Trichardt-based non-profit organisation (NPO) apparently knows nothing about a R5.5 million Lottery grant that was paid into a mystery bank account opened in its name.

Tshilidzi Mutheiwana, the spokesperson for the NPO, Uprising Youth Development (UYD), said they had never applied for the grant and had not received the money. When the NPO became aware of that its name was on the list of beneficiaries, it contacted the NLC for an explanation, Mutheiwana said. “(They) confirmed that an amount of R5.5 million was paid into an FNB account in March 2019,” Mutheiwana said. UYD had laid a criminal complaint with the police after they had learnt about the payment into the mystery account, he said.

Mutheiwana , who described himself as UYD’s “technician”, said they had first become aware of the Lottery funding after the Department of Social Development (DSD) contacted one of the organisation’s members to ask about the funded project, and how the money was spent.

When UYD started investigating, they immediately realised something was wrong, Mutheiwana said. He claimed that a copy of an ID of one of the board members had allegedly been fraudulently certified at the Atteridgeville Police Station in Pretoria and been used to open a bank account at FNB for the NPO. “We found out who used that ID copy to open an account, and we reported the case to the Makhado Police Station in March this year,” he said. “He said he got our NPO’s documents from us, but he is lying. Now he is nowhere to be found. He is from Vuwani. He is said to have many other criminal cases [being investigated against him], but the police are doing nothing about it.”

The Limpopo police’s spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, confirmed that a criminal complaint had been laid, but said the case had been closed because of a lack of evidence. Ngoepe said a case had been opened at the Makhado Police Station, after a complainant had alleged that a bank account had been fraudulently opened in the name of Uprising Youth Development. The fraud was allegedly spotted when the NPO’s members tried to open a new account on 13 March 2020, Ngoepe said.

Ngoepe said the police did not know who had opened the alleged fraudulent account in UYD’s name. The NPO certificate, registration number and the signature of the DSD director were different on the application form that was filled in. He said that, because of a lack of information, the docket was closed on 29 May 2020.

Responding to emailed questions, NLC spokesperson Ndivhuho Mafela said: “A complaint was lodged with the NLC regarding the Uprising Youth Development NPO and the NLC instituted an investigation on the matter. The NLC has since taken a decision to refer the matter to the police,” he said.

Man accused of killing Mutale cop behind bars

By Silas Nduvheni A 23-year-old man accused of killing a police officer while escaping from custody appeared in the Mutale Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Muvhuso Morgan Nyadzani, who is facing charges of murder, rape, escape from lawful custody and robbery, appeared in court alongside his uncle, Azwihangwisi Nethengwe (36). Nethengwe is faced with charges of defeating the ends of justice.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, Nyadzani was out on bail for car hijacking in January this year before he was arrested and placed in police custody again earlier on the day of 27 November on charges of rape, kidnapping and violation of a protection order.

W/O Mbulaheni Ronald Mulanduli (57) was conducting his routine visit at Mutale Police Station’s cells later that day when he was attacked by Nyadzani and allegedly stabbed several times with an unknown object. Nyadzani then took the keys from Mulanduli’s pocket and stole an undisclosed amount of money from a safe before making his escape.

Nyadzani’s uncle, Nethengwe, allegedly rushed him to a traditional healer at one of the local villages for muti “to help make his murder case disappear”. After a team of investigators received information on their whereabouts, they followed up on it and both men were seized and arrested on Sunday morning.

According to Mojapelo, the alleged murder weapon, keys and some of the money that was stolen were found. An internal investigation is being conducted to determine whether Nyadzani was thoroughly searched before entering the police cells, as per standard law-enforcement procedures.

The spokesperson for the Directorate of Public Prosecution in Limpopo, Ms Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, said both suspects’ cases had been postponed until 15 March 2021 for further police investigation and both accused would remain in custody.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, has welcomed the arrest of Nyadzani and Nethengwe. They were caught within 72 hours of the killing and escape from custody.

Family spokesperson and younger sister of Mulanduli Ms Nthambeleni Mulanduli was still devastated about the news of the murder of her brother when speaking to Limpopo Mirror. She said that he used to take care of the family, who were all still in great mourning over his death.

Mulanduli, who was from Tshandama village in Mutale, will be buried on Saturday, 5 December. At the time of our going to press, no clarity existed whether his funeral would be official or not.

Maduwa’s funeral will be held on Saturday, 5 December.

a Mr Heim. He most probably sold it to a Mr Ben Pretorius, but few of the older residents can recall him.

Possibly one of the most famous owners of the hotel (at that stage called Punch Bowl), was a Springbok rugby player, Natie Rens. Rens was a very gifted flyhalf and represented the national side in two tests against Australia in 1953. Why he bought the hotel in the early 70s is unclear, but he seems to have been quite a celebrity and many residents visited the hotel just to meet him. He is still considered one of the “sexiest” rugby players who had ever worn the coveted green-andgold jersey.

Rens only had the hotel for a few years, and it then became the responsibility of a Mr John Mather. (Rumour has it that he won the hotel in a bet, but this could not be confirmed.)

Those years, a big advantage of owning a hotel was that it also gave you an off-sales licence. In John Mather’s time, the Punch Bowl Bottle Store in town was

She later also managed the hotel and shares were sold to her son, Graham, and his wife Sue. In 1989, Sean Brennan managed the hotel.

In 1990, Elma and Mike Grant bought the hotel. They managed it for the next decade before selling it to Mark and Norma-Jean Sparrow in 2000.

This also marked a name change for the hotel, as it became the Inn on Louis Trichardt. The hotel became part of a family of hotels that included names such as Inn on Zimbabwe.

A decade later, the hotel experienced a few “lean years”.

It was sold to a new owner, but the deal never went through. In about 2011, the hotel was sold to Dr Matthew Flynn and his wife, Hilary. They started the slow process of renovating the ageing infrastructure, sorting out electrical and other problems. The buildings received much-needed attention and the “Grand Old Lady” received a bit more than just a new coat of paint. The Flynns renamed it the Avoca Vale Country Hotel, which tied in with their Irish roots. The Vale of Avoca is one of the most scenic spots in County Wicklow, in the east of Ireland.

Ironically, the new name tied in well with a region where avocados are in abundance.

A feature of the hotel has always been its old-world charm and relaxed atmosphere. The building that houses the reception area, lounges and dining room used to be a farmhouse. The

interior was furnished with pieces bought from the old Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg, which added to the old-world English charm.

Chaos as trucks completely block street to load crates of cooldrink

In what seems to be an example of extremely bad planning of a distribution network, a road in Louis Trichardt is effectively blocked off by trucks. Neighbouring businessowners battle to access their businesses and their customers must either negotiate a way through the trucks or shop somewhere else.

The problem seems to stem from a decision by the distribution partner of Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) to move its distribution warehouse in Louis Trichardt to rented premises in Meyer Street. The warehouse makes little or no provision for big trucks to enter.

From what could be established the move to a new

warehouse took place about a year ago, but in the last couple of months the problems just got worse. Big trucks offloading stock combined with smaller trucks loading the crates, caused logistical problems.

Currently the public road is being used as a loading platform, much to the frustration of other motorists.

This short street in a semi-industrial part of town was already partly blocked off by big trucks awaiting their turn to enter the milling company’s premises on the opposite side of the warehouse. With the addition of dozens of small and big trucks arriving every day to load and off-load crates, the situation has simply become chaotic.

Louis Bobodi, said on Tuesday that they were aware of the situation and that traffic officials had been dispatched to issue tickets. “In addition, they will keep on monitoring the situation,” he said.

CCBSA’s media department was also contacted and asked about the situation in Louis Trichardt. “Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) considers this complaint in a very serious light and is committed to resolving the matter with its local distribution partner.

Our team will investigate immediately and implement the necessary corrective action over the coming weeks,” the company said.

On Tuesday, the situation was still the same, with the road just about inaccessible in the early morning.

One-stop model at border

By Bernard Chiguvare South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, and his Zimbabwean counterpart, Minister Kazembe Kazembe, met at the Beitbridge border post on Friday, 27 November, to discuss the flow of traffic at the Beitbridge border post during the festive season.

“We are not going to open another border (post) between Zimbabwe and South Africa,” Dr Motsoaledi told the media. “What we are planning is to open a One-Stop border at Beitbridge border post.”

He said that the One-Stop border post model would improve the movement of vehicles and pedestrians and explained that when trucks were travelling to Zimbabwe, they would not be checked on the South African side but on the Zimbabwean side. The same applies when travellers are coming into South Africa - trucks will only be checked on the SA side.

Instead of parking their trucks at truck stops, the drivers preferred to park on the side of the road while waiting to be cleared. Traffic officials, SAPS, SANDF and immigration officials worked together to clear the queues. Now there are no more queues, so it must be maintained,” Dr Motsoaledi said.

Hulisani is an itinerant stylist and his services include, among others, style makeovers, events styling, fashion photoshoots, own style portfolios and personal shopping with or without a client. “You first book a day of consultation with me when you feel like you need a makeover,” he said. “We identify the problem during the consultation.

that I developed a concept of styling people professionally,” he said. “Yes, I agree that I didn’t meet everything that was on my bucket list.”

Through his Soigneur Styling Services, which he initiated shortly after the lockdown, Hulisani, who also happens to use Soigneur as a stage name, started getting great exposure.

He found himself receiving recognition

from established creatives such as Mizo Phyll, Mikey Mashila and Shonisani Masutha.

Hulisani said he was looking forward to a prosperous 2021 when he would be open to learn more and expand his brand. “My storyline is too long. I will have to tell it at a later stage, but for now the world must get ready for what I’m about to do,” he said.

Local pastor releases debut gospel album

By Kaizer Nengovhela A local pastor from the Sinthumule area released his own debut gospel album, entitled Rabayanda, which has already proven to be a favourite among local community members.

Collen Mufamadi, from the New Apostolic Church in Ramahantsha village, says the main message of the album is repentance, hope for Christians, grace, love, and the goodness of God. The 12-track album consists of well-known songs sung by church members from the New Apostolic Church, or by artists who have already been in the music industry for a while. Mufamadi says he got his inspiration from the musicians whom he grew up listening to and fundamentally from the church.

He started his music career at Ramahantsha as a leading vocalist for the United Apostolic Church choir. “I know that it is very difficult to make it in this industry, but I am happy that, through the support of my fans, I am moving closer to my destination.” He says that, as a follower of God, he was overwhelmed that he could praise Him (God) through music. “With God in my personal life, I don’t need artificial substances, such as drugs, to be happy.”

Nengovhela releases debut album Humbulani Nengovhela released his debut album, The best of Muphirimia.

By Kaizer Nengovhela Phalaphala FM presenter Humbulani Nengovhela recently released his debut album, The best of Muphirimia.

According to Nengovhela, who hails from Tshaulu, the album is doing well commercially, for which he is grateful. He said that the road to where he is today was a long and winding one and establishing himself in the music industry was difficult.

“Recording the album was not easy,” Nengovhela confessed. Despite having plenty of songs ready, he had to fund the project himself. To enhance his writing and composition skills, he took piano lessons. “Colbert Mukwevho was my role model and he encouraged me a lot.”

He started his musical career when he was still young as part of a church choir. He grew up listening to famous musicians such as Peter Tosh, Bob

Marley, Eric Donaldson and many more, from whom he drew great inspiration. “I fell in love with music at a young age. Reggae music was always in my bones,” he said.

Music observers have told him that he was gaining great popularity among reggae music lovers because of his unique style which consists of heavy bass and some chopping sounds, and occasional well-positioned brass.

He sings about personal experiences, “and what I see happening in my vicinity. I also give advice here and there through my music and, by the look of things, I will continue singing this type of music, as it is proving very popular,” he said.

Nengovhela’s debut album consists of a couple of already popular songs, such as Marriage, Mishumo and Black Leopards, as well as eight reggae songs.

Thovhele Mulima visits Bo die Krans Lodge at Mukondeni village Tourism Thovhele Vho-Fhatuwani Mulima, the senior traditional leader at Mukondeni village, welcomed a new overnight accommodation facility in the area. He was part of a delegation that visited a newly built lodge on Saturday.

The Bo die Krans Lodge and Conference lodge is situated about 15km from Elim on a hill between the Nwammbi and Mudzhadzhane rivers. Phase 1 of the construction work is now complete, and members of the public will be able to visit

from 5 December onwards. The official opening will only take place on 3 April 2021.

Mulima described the new lodge as a first-of-its-kind facility for the village. “All of us are to support this vision,” he said.

“Whenever artists come to perform at the lodge, an opportunity will be created for local vendors and our youth to generate income for their families.”

Mulima added. He mentioned this after an announcement was made that top artists such as Makhadzi, Colbert Mu­ kwevho, Zozo & Sengere beat and Trika will perform at the

opening event.

The owner of the new lodge, Dr Ntavhanyeni Sampie Phaswana, said that the new tourism facility would have a positive impact on the neighbouring communities. “Students from the FET Colleges will now have an opportunity to do their practical training at Bo die Krans Lodge in Mukondeni.

Even the intervention of local chief couldn’t solve this stinky dispute

Complain to the Military Ombud Musina News The Military Ombud, whose offices are in Pretoria, is on a drive to introduce its services to communities where a high deployment volume of members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is present.

The representatives of the institution were at Musina last Tuesday, where they met Musina Mayor Mihloti Muhlope and the Chief Whip, Cllr Fistos Mafela. The Military Ombud was represented by their analyst, Vongani Ndleve, and Communications Officer Ntshengedzeni Singo.

When briefing the politicians, Ndleve said that the office of the Military Ombud had been established in 2012 to investigate and ensure that complaints against SANDF members were resolved in a fair, economical and expeditious manner. He explained what a complaint is: “A complaint is a written statement expressing discontent or unhappiness by a member or a former member about his or her conditions of service and members of the public

about the official conduct of a member of the Defence Force.

The complaint must be lodged in writing, using the prescribed form.”

He said serving members should first try and resolve their dissatisfaction within the SANDF through the individual grievance process as prescribed in the Individual Grievance Regulations of 2010.

He outlined who is eligible to lodge a complaint: “A member or a former member of the SANDF regarding his or her conditions of service can lodge a complaint with us. Members of the public can also lodge a complaint regarding the official conduct of a member of the SANDF. Members of the SANDF can lodge complaints about recruitment procedures, advertising and selection and appointment criteria, job classification and grading, salaries, allowances and service benefits, working environment and working facilities, education, training and development, termination of service, to name but a few.”

He added that when the complaint was received, a case reference number was

allocated and communicated to the complainant. “The complainant will be advised whether the Military Ombud has jurisdiction on the matter or not. The Military Ombud will investigate the matter and will either uphold or dismiss the complaint. If the case is upheld, the Military Ombud will make recommendations to the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans on how to resolve the complaint, which recommendations the minister may accept or reject.”

Musina Mayor Mihloti Muhlope said that the municipality would work closely with the Military Ombud to make sure that their services were known to the local people. “We have a huge number of SANDF members deployed around our area and it is important to know what they are supposed to do and what they should not do. We appreciate the good work that the members are doing to keep us safe. However, our community members will be able to lodge complaints in relation to those SANDF members who disregard their oath of protecting the community.”

Even an intervention by the local traditional leader could not solve a neighbourly dispute at Bungeni. This feud has now been going on for years, with one resident claiming that his neighbour’s broken sewage pipe is literally driving him out of his house.

Maxwell Owen Manganyi claims that he had tried on numerous occasions to get his neighbour to fix a broken sewage connection. The sewage spills out of the broken pipe, into his yard, causing quite a stench.

“It is now over five years of having to endure living with solid sewage flowing into my yard.

Every time I have to lock my children indoors, otherwise they will play in the sewage,” laments Manganyi.

“I have approached the neighbour several times to fix the toilet or stop using the broken toilet, but she never heeds the call. My challenge is that I have no money to erect a wall to stop the sewage from flowing into my yard. This is a health hazard and is putting me and my family in danger,” said Manganyi.

To make matters worse, the neighbour’s house is only about three metres away from his home.

One of my friends is now a lawyer, and I would like to follow in her footsteps,” said the girl, who is originally from Zimbabwe.

New house for orphaned children

By Silas Nduvheni The director of the Mvelaphanda Development Training Centre in Tshisaulu village, Ms Ester Mushathama, urged graduates at her centre to be job creators rather than job seekers when they graduate from their different fields of study.

In total, 261 graduates from different learning programmes, including boilermaking, electrical engineering and welding application and practice, received their certificates during the centre’s 31st annual graduation ceremony that was held at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre last week.

“It is not only that you are graduating today and that’s the

end of it. You have to advance your certificates and diplomas further by increasing your skills in your field of study, and I urge you to come back to us for further skills training if you cannot start up your small businesses,” said Mushathama.

During the ceremony, traditional leader Chief Mutulagole Nyamande was handed a chief ’s chair that was designed and made by Mvelaphanda students to add dignity to his title when he has community meetings at his kraal.

Motivational speaker and consultant curriculum advisor Mr Gideon Ramulifho encouraged young graduates from the centre to practice the skills they acquired and help create jobs for unemployed community

members. “We want you to show and excel in the fields of your studies and display respect and dedication to your work.

We also encourage parents to give a lot of support to their newly graduated students and help them with tools and machines to start up their new businesses,” said Ramulifho.

One of the students who graduated in the hospitality field, Rendani Gandamipfa, said that he was over the moon that he had completed his course. “Since the beginning of the year, I started baking bread and cookies and my business is growing. I’m planning to start a bakery in my home village of Vhutalu to provide fresh bread,” Gandamipfa said enthusiastically.

Ramakavhi was killed by her boyfriend in December last year and her two daughters, aged 10 and 6, were left homeless.

The official handing over of the house took place on Thursday, 25 November, at Ha-Mutsha and the function was attended by the MEC for Coghsta, Basikopo Makamu,

Makhado Mayor Samuel Munyai, Limpopo’s First Lady, Maggie Mathabatha, and community members.

The donor, Ms Zorha Khan of Zorha Khan Developers, said that she learnt about the children’s poor living conditions. “I was very touched … so I decided to build them a house,” said Khan. She said she wanted to restore dignity to the young children. “It is our responsibility as businesspeople to reach out to the rest of the society, uplifting the lives of the poor community members,” she said.

The representative of the family, Mr Khaukani Mulovhedzi, said he appreciated that, out of thousands of people out there, somebody had

a heart of gold. “I don’t know how I can thank Khan. The lady just made the children’s dream come true,” he sobbed.

Cllr Munyai said the municipality welcomed the partnership. “Government on its own cannot do it, but if other stakeholders get involved and emulate what the donor has done, a lot can be achieved,” he said.

Makamu thanked Khan for the good work she was doing for the community. ‘We are very happy to have businesspeople who understand our language as government, that alone we cannot do things for all our people, but if the businesspeople can assists, we will do more for our people together,” he said.

Marobs quits booze and now he’s “a changed man” Musina news

“There is an unfounded perception that it becomes very difficult to quit booze when you are a heavy drinker,” says Robert “Marobs” Ramphabana, a former radio presenter and musician from Musina.

“According to me, it is easy to stop drinking if you tell yourself deep inside your heart that you want to quit. I am happy that I have managed to kick the habit and I am now living a better life.”

Ramphabana tells that, when the hard lockdown started in March, he had bought a lot of alcohol beverages to sustain him for weeks.

“Unfortunately, I finished my beers just a week after I bought them. It was very difficult to get more alcohol because the alcohol outlets were not allowed to trade. Imagine the first day without a sip when you have been drinking almost daily for the past ten years?” he tells.

“I tried to call my friends to find out if they had something to drink, but they all had nothing. It was also almost impossible to get traditional beer here in Musina because I have never seen people brewing it. It became challenging during the first day without beer because my instincts were telling me to drink.

Although it was difficult to sleep without a drink, a week passed, and I continued spending days without my usual alcoholic drinks.”

But after three weeks of no drinking, Ramphabana decided to quit for good. “Although the outbreak of the coronavirus was bad news to everyone, it was a blessing in disguise for me because it has helped me to quit booze.

This is really the most important decision I have made in my life, and I will never taste alcohol again for the rest of my life.”

He says since he stopped drinking his life has improved drastically. “I had no time to drink tea or soft drinks, but now I enjoy them.

The album is a package of artistic delights and focuses more on issues of women’s empowerment.

Lutendo Ramadwa-Letsie, also known as Princess Lutendo, is content that her long-cherished dream of becoming an actress has finally come true.

This after she landed the role of a doctor in the popular SABC 2 soapy, Muvhango.

Her role premiered on 11 November this year. Lutendo said she had entered many auditions before she had finally been given the role.

“I feel so happy and proud of myself,” she said. “I did a lot of auditions before, but even though I received some rejections, I never gave up. I kept on trying. And now I believe this is the beginning of greater things ahead.”

She said that her uncle, pastor Original Ramadwa, had encouraged her to follow her acting career from a young age. “My uncle, under whose wings I grew up, played a major part in my discovering my acting skills,” she said. “He is a pastor, so he would always teach us about discovering our potential. He is a man of many talents; even at home he would write a script and encourage us to play it out. It was so much fun, and I and my cousins enjoyed it. That’s where it all started.”

“I can still speak well, eat pap and muroho (vegetables), mopani worms and fruits. Without God, I wouldn’t be celebrating my 100th birthday. Where there is God, there is life,” she said.

Her daughter, Ms Thinawanga Ratshitanga, said people should just celebrate and enjoy life with their loved ones while they were alive, and that they were very thankful to be able to celebrate this momentous event with their mother. “Our

mother is still a strong woman who loves her family very much. There is not a Sunday she misses going to church,” she said.

Dr Tshifhiwa Muligwe of Rhema Kingdom Life at Tshifulanani said the celebration was truly a historic event. “A family needs senior citizens to provide wisdom,” he said.

He also thanked the family for not sending their mother to an old-age home, but that they had rather decided to live with her in the comfort of their home. “She is a member of the Rhema Kingdom Life and very outspoken about her love for God,” Muligwe said.

No bail granted for police officer accused of ATM robbery attempt

The police officer who was allegedly involved in an attempted robbery in August this year was denied bail.

Detective Sgt Tshifhiwa Ramarumo (34) and cash-in-transit security officer Matome Rathidili (45) allegedly attempted to rob security guards while they were loading cash into an ATM at a filling station in Madombidzha. The two are facing charges of armed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo said that, on the day of the incident, cash-in-transit guards were about to load cash into an ATM when they were attacked by eight suspects. The suspects shot at the cash-in-transit van, but the driver fled. No cash was taken during the incident.

The police believe that Rathidili, who worked for the same cash-in-transit company, had provided inside information about the delivery to the group of suspects. He was not on duty on the day of the attempted robbery.

Rathidili is out on R5 000 bail. Ramarumo presented his bail application at the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 30 November, but it was denied, and he remains in custody. The six other suspects are still at large.

The case had been postponed to 12 January 2021 for further investigation.

Musina’s residents can apply for Bursary Scheme Education The Musina Local Municipality is urging learners to apply for assistance from the 2021 Mayoral Bursary Scheme. The scheme was established to assist learners from disadvantaged communities with outstanding academic performance and who cannot access tertiary education. The bursary will fund tuition fee, books, and accommodation.

Preference will be given to qualifying students who want to study auditing, financial accounting, economics, business management, tourism, agriculture, public administration, project management, information technology, town planning, environmental science, media studies, human resources, public relations, development planning, building science, human settlement and international relations. To be

illegible to qualify for the bursary, the beneficiaries’ joint family income per month should be R3 500 or less.

Musina Mayor Mihloti Muhlope said the municipality acknowledged the fact that numerous children were needy; however, the funds can only be given to deserving learners who are permanent residents of Musina.

“The bursary has so far produced 14 graduates who are working in various institutions around the country,” she said.

Muhlope added that the municipality offered employment contracts to graduates after completing their studies.

National Treasury has issued MFMA Circular 81 pertaining to a Web based Central Supplier Database for the registration of prospective suppliers. Watch out for “Mr Modiba”

By Denise van Bergen The Department of Employment and Labour (DEAL) in Limpopo has issued an urgent warning to clients in the Limpopo province to watch out for and not be taken in by crooks who are impersonating departmental officials and promising them jobs, or in some cases offering their assistance in dealing with their Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) issues for them.

“The department was notified of the scam by a client after she received a call by a certain ‘Mr Modiba’ offering speedy assistance with UIF matters and work opportunities in exchange for money.

The department does not charge for its services,” provincial spokesperson for the department, Lerato Mashamba said.

The complainant apparently notified the department when “Mr Modiba” insisted that she deposits the money through a cash deposit market.

According to the Deputy Director of the Labour Centre Operations, Malesela Mothata, “Mr Modiba” is a regular thorn in the department’s side. “Every year when we approach festive season, or during the festive season, we receive an influx of complaints from clients about a certain ‘Mr Modiba’ who is said to work at Polokwane Labour Centre. He has scammed a lot of people out of their hard-earned cash,” she said.

Mothata said clients should be alert at all times, as scammers always take advantage of vulnerable people. “Our officials will never ask clients to deposit money in exchange of services. We pride ourselves in rendering free services to our clients.”

The scam is said to have spread to Mokopane and nearby areas.

Should clients receive a call from any individual offering services in exchange for money, they are urged to report it to the DEAL by calling the fraud hotline at Tel 0800 701 701 or email to fraud@labour.gov. za.

No bail for murder suspect

By Kaizer Nengovhela The 28-year-old Aubrey Manaka, who was arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Capricorn TVET College student Precious Ramabulana on 24 November 2019, appeared in the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 27 November.

The preliminary police investigations revealed that Ramabulana was asleep in her room at Ga-Joel section in Mokomene when she was stabbed to death.

Manaka was arrested at his

parental home at Nyakelang Village in Botlokwa on 28 November 2019, following an intensive manhunt by forensic experts, detectives, members of the Crime Intelligence Unit and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks). He was allegedly found in possession of the deceased’s cellphone, bloodstained clothes and a sharp object.

Manaka was denied bail and is being charged with murder, housebreaking with the intent to commit an offence, rape, and robbery. The case was postponed until 7 June 2021. Police investigations are still ongoing.

By Frank Mavhungu Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) may have failed to collect the maximum points in their DStv Premiership League match against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth last Sunday, but the team’s head coach, Mr Joel “The Prophet” Masutha, is happy with the results.

During an interview with him after the game, the former Black Leopards mentor said that the fact that they had managed to grab a significant point away from home was a good reason for them to celebrate. He further stated that an away point was as good as gold to them. He stressed the fact that the team would go places if they continued to collect at least a point away and strived to win the majority of their home matches.

Mr Masutha again stated that he was delighted to see that his team had managed to hold off a strong Chippa United attack, despite the fact that they had played the last 30 minutes of the game with their hands tied behind their backs. Register now for Vhako’s Tournament

By Frank Mavhungu Teams interested in taking part in this year’s edition of the Greendot Vhako Soccer Tournament have until Wednesday, 16 December, to register. According to the spokesperson for the organising committee, Ms Pretty Gumbu, eight teams from the Niani area will take part in this year’s tournament. The same number of teams took part in last year’s edition of the tournament.

Ms Gumbu appealed to the clubs to settle their registration fees without delay to avoid disappointment. She further said that registration would be

done on a first-come, firstserved basis. She again stated that this year’s registration fee is R600 per club. As usual, the tournament will be staged at the Gumbu grounds.

According to her, the quarter-final matches will be played on Thursday, 26 December, while the semi-finals and final will follow the following day.

Ms Gumbu revealed that this year’s champions will receive a cash prize of R5 000 and a floating trophy.

Tshenzhelani Diiteleni will be defending the championship this year. They beat Maramanzhi Home Sweepers 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy at the same venue last year. A local

construction company, Greendot, and Hollywood Bets will sponsor this year’s event.

He appealed to the fans not to panic, saying things would soon change for the better.
