The secretary of the Louis Trichardt Makhado Taxi Association, Mr Chris Makananisa, said it was a great loss to the taxi industry to hear about the passing away of a dedicated member such as Munonde, because he had shown his commitment to the industry.

His close friend and a former acting commander of the Limpopo police band, Captain Carlton Maluta Nduvheni, described the late Randima as a humble man who respected everybody, even people much younger than him.

“Because of his experience in singing, he helped us when we started the police choir in 1998. He was a singer and played the trumpet. (Together) we have recruited many young and upcoming people interested in singing and some have now started to make a name for themselves in the industry,” said Capt Nduvheni.

He leaves behind his wife, Virginia Randima, and five children. He will be laid to rest on Friday, 5 February, at the Mutshenzheni village graveyard under strict Covid-19 regulations.

No new classrooms for Maphophe’s learners

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho As the opening of schools is fast approaching, pupils at Maphophe Primary School might have no classrooms for lessons. This comes after the seasonal storms torn off the roofing on two blocks of classrooms in December last year.

The chairperson of the school governing body (SGB), Mr Gezani Chauke, said that they had reported the incident to the district office of the Department of Education. “They registered our case, but they had not come back to us,” he said.

“When we enquire, we are now given a deaf ear.

This is frustrating because it is not the first time that the department has ill-treated us.”

Chauke said that they had previously reported that the department had not fixed the roofing

of two blocks of classrooms that were damaged in a rainstorm about three years ago. “We applied for the school to be built from scratch, because there was literally nothing to fix on those two old blocks, but they sent some mobile classrooms instead, without our consent,” he said. “We don’t need mobile classrooms because they do not shut out the cold during winter. And they are boiling hot inside in summer.”

Maphophe Primary School is in Maphophe village, situated some seven kilometres outside Saselamani town in the Collins Chabane municipal area.

“Two mobile classrooms were delivered to our school following the first damage of the classrooms, but we still feel that the department should consider employing long-

term measures for the school,” he said. “We need proper classrooms.”

Limpopo Department of Education’s spokesperson, Ms Tidimalo Chuene, confirmed the department’s receipt of a damage report.

“The Department is aware of the state of the school,” she said. “We recently received a report from the circuit office and a technical team was thereafter dispatched to assess the damage. We have included the school on the list for provision of mobile classrooms.”

Chuene said that the school was also under consideration for a long-term solution, details of which would be shared as soon as they were finalised.

Schools have been scheduled to re-open on 15 February.

He is also a singer whose songs have a way of sending out motivational messages and lightening the mood of those who hear them.

“In 2017, I released the single Confused Child, which was much appreciated by many people,” he said.

Today, Phumudzo’s vision is to help young people and orphans to stand up for themselves in society.

“I know how it feels to sleep on the streets, lose loved ones and seeing one’s dreams taking longer to come true,” he said. “Above everything else, we need to keep hoping for the best as we continue on our journey towards reaching our dreams.”

Being subjected to abject poverty from a young age had not deterred Phumudzo Themeli from dreaming big and pursuing his dreams.

Phumudzo was born in Tshikambe but grew up in Ngwenani ya Themeli and Tshidzini. He has had to face many hardships and struggles with sickness as a boy.

He visited clinics so often that he had lost count. “Little did I know that the sicknesses I had to battle then were sowing the love of nursing in my heart,” he said.

After he matriculated, he went to Johannesburg to study nursing at Lunghile Nursing School. “While I was a student there, many opportunities availed themselves for me to be a clinical facilitator, but I was facing breathing challenges, since I was suffering from bronchitis and lung infections,” he explained.

He missed some opportunities to earn extra money because of his poor health, which meant that, unlike those students who enjoyed earning a little extra money while they were still studying, he still faced financial challenges.

“At a later stage, I volunteered to help people who suffered from chronic diseases and HIV and AIDS, bathing them and sending them to hospitals to collect their chronic medications,” he said.

In 2013, he established a non-profit-organisation, called Divhanivhuyo Learners Support and Development for children living without parents. It operates in Vhembe, Pretoria, Johannesburg, and Botswana.

The daughter of Maemu Alpheus and Nancy Rendani Ndou, Pertu Vee started her schooling at Muraga Primary School at Hamuraga village outside Thohoyandou in 2002.

“All along I knew that music had a certain appeal to me,” she said. “I would hum a tune now and then when I walked around the schoolyard during breaks.”

She matriculated at Thase Secondary School in 2016, but she repeated her Grade 12 to obtain better results to continue her studies. Pertu Vee discovered her singing talent at church in 2014, when she joined the worship team of His Majesty Christians Church.

“When Covid-19 and lockdown became the norm last year, I was so disturbed, but I soon focused on music as an artist,” she said. “I took my time on making my dream of being a musician come true, and that’s where I started writing songs. Someone who has inspired me on this musical journey is Nomcebo Zikode. When I first listened to her song Kobanini in 2019, I was bowled over by her voice and her beats.”

Pertu Vee recorded her first album, titled Musadzi wa Muvenda, in June 2020. The album includes songs such as Musadzi wa muvenda,

Ezulwini, Khethile-khethile ( featuring King Khusta), Khalifare and Zwidoluga.

“On Musadzi wa Muvenda I worked with the famous Ugandan Ragga dancehall artist, Yellowhammer,” she said. She also worked with the legendary band of Elvis Mandiza and Sibasa Pirates as backing vocalist on some of the tracks of their newly released album, Tshikangavhiya.

Pertu Vee was nominated in the Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) in 2020 as Best Newcomer of the Year. “It made me feel more welcome in the music industry,” she said.

In 2021, Pertu Vee is taking her musical journey further as she is currently working with veterans in the music industry, such as Sir McKleker and other big names.

He was working for the Rand Merchant Bank as a credit analyst in 2003 when he was awarded the Nelson Mandela Foundation Bursary to study for his MBA in the UK. Matangari village’s traditional leader, Musanda Vho-Mutulagole Nyamande, also welcomed the court judgment.

He said: “All the plans that Avhatakali had for our village have been shattered. Personally, I have not healed from his death because he was a brother and role model to everyone in this village. I feel it was very insensitive for Sivhidzho to approach the court on this matter as it was proven that she pre-meditated the murder of our beloved brother. I pray that God should help me and the Netshisaulu family to heal from this painful wound.”

Musina mourns the death of sports legend

Seakamela worked in the electricity unit that falls under the Technical Services Department of Musina Municipality.

The municipality said that Seakamela’s death was a huge loss to them.

He is survived by his wife and four children and was laid to rest on Sunday, 31 January.

The community of Musina and the family of Abram Seakamela (46) expressed their shock at his death on Wednesday, 27 January.

According to Tshepo Seakamela, her brother was a diabetic and died at his home as a result of complications from it. “We are really saddened by the death of Abram.

He was prepared to help not only family members but the whole of the Musina community. During school holidays he would take young people for sports training, as a way of getting them off the streets. He was a humble man,” Tshepo said.

She said that Seakamela had been a popular sportsman in the community. He also assisted as a hairdresser and as an adviser to many.

Theodore Maoko, a sports guru Abram Seakamela died on 27 January.

Leopards donate more league points

By Kaizer Nengovhela TS Galaxy gave the struggling Black Leopards a 3-0 drubbing during their DStv Premiership clash on Saturday at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

Leopards welcomed back Lehlohonolo Masalesa and Donald Makgetlwa in the line-up, while Galaxy were unchanged.

Black Leopards approached the match aggressively, searching for an early goal, but they were denied any such opportunities.

Leopards did have a scoring chance in the 23rd minute, but Roderick Kabwe’s shot was stopped by goalkeeper Marlon

Heugh. Leopard’s keeper, King Ndlovu, had to do some work five minutes later to keep out Wayde Lekay’s strike at goal.

Galaxy were awarded a penalty 10 minutes before the break after Lindokuhle Mbatha brought down Sibusiso Khumalo inside the box.

Mxolisi Macuphu went up to take the penalty, and although his effort was saved by Ndlovu, Lekay profited from the rebound and fired it into the back of the net.

Galaxy’s troops had a great start in the second stanza as Bathusi Aubaas doubled the lead 10 minutes after the

break with a close-range finish.

Macuphu eventually got on the score sheet in the last quarter as he sealed the three points for the Rockets with a thumping header from Mbatha’s cross.

Leopards were reduced to 10 men in the last four minutes after Sibongiseni Mthethwa was red carded for a reckless challenge.

Leopards are now lurking at the bottom of the log with only nine points. They share this dubious position with another Limpopo-based team, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Red card for PSL’s best referee, Jelly Chavani Lidoda Duvha should not The DStv Premiership League’s best referee in the 2019/20 soccer season, Mr Jelly Chavani, will be out of action for four weeks.

The South African Football Association’s (SAFA) has suspended him, following a controversial decision that he took in the game between Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, 10 January.

The final score in that match was 1-1.

During its meeting last week, SAFA’s match review committee found that most of Chavani’s decisions in that game were controversial. The committee found that Chavani had denied Orlando Pirates what they described as a “clear penalty”.

When confirming Chavani’s suspension, SAFA’s chairperson of the refereeing committee, Mrs Natasha Tsichlas, insisted that bad officiating in DStv Premiership League games was not a reflection of the standard of refereeing in the country.

Tsichlas admitted that Chavani’s suspension was disappointing as he is the reigning referee of the year. The 24-year-old Chavani was presented with a cheque to the value of R50 000 in October last year, following his nomination as the league’s best referee of the season. Chavani’s former school, Chavani Senior Primary School, recognised him during a special event at the school about two months ago.

Chavani started blowing the whistle at local football association level way back in 2013. He was promoted to officiate at professional level in the middle of the 2015/16 soccer season.

Black Leopards will undertake a journey to Potchefstroom, where they will battle it out against Jomo Cosmos at the Olën Park Stadium on Sunday. Although Cosmos are campaigning in the lower division, underestimating them will be a suicidal mistake for Lidoda duvha.

Cosmos are one of the hot GladAfrica Championship league title contenders. Ezenkosi, as they are also called, are lying in the fourth position on the log with 19 points, one behind the pace setters, Sekhukhune United.

Things are fast moving from bad to worse in the Leopards’ camp. They lost four PSL matches in a row. Black Leopards will be without two key players on Sunday. Edwin Gyimah and Sbongiseni Mthethwa are still serving their suspensions after seeing red in their previous games.
