INSIDE THE COVER E

ducation is an important aspect of any child’s life. For military children, it can sometimes be challenging to change schools and fit in. Equally challenging for the parents is to find the best educational situation for their children, adjust to new educational standards, and navigate the paperwork of enrollment. This is where the office of the School Liaison comes in.

Compact, children who meet the criteria, including children of active duty members, are given uniform treatment as military children transfer between school districts in member states. Dennisse Jones, the new School Liaison, will be ensuring that each and every military child coming into the local School districts will have continuity and familiarity as they transition in.

The School Liaison helps to eliminate barriers and build bridges for the academic success of military dependent children through networks and partnerships with our local and global communities. The position is designed to understand and identify barriers to quality education for military dependent children in this area and develop solutions that will benefit everyone involved.

Ms. Jones’s office is located at the Child and Youth Programs Facility. She is happy to speak with any parents regarding public and private educational opportunities around the area as well as help your child transition into their new school setting. She can be reached via e-mail at dennisse.jones.2@us.af.mil.

ow the hands are positioned on the club can affect the club face direction at impact, which influences the direction of the shot. To achieve the correct position, we suggest placing your top hand (left hand for right handed golfers) on the golf club. Once your hand is positioned, look out of your left eye to see if you can see two knuckles on your left hand. If you can see the two knuckles on your left hand, you have achieved a suitable starting position for your top hand. If you position your right hand on the club most golf grips will have a manufacturer’s logo at the bottom. Allow the thumb on your right hand to go left of the top letter on the golf grip; assuring all fingers and thumbs are attached to the club. Once you have proper hand positioning, let her rip!

FIRST STEPS 4K PROGRAM

SUMMER CAMPS!

FREE 4K program is available to eligible 4 year olds. Enrollment is open for 2019-2020!

ARCHERY CAMP At archery camp, every camper has the chance to become the next Robin of Loxely (aka Robin Hood) or even the famous William Tell (though we do not shoot apples off our heads!). Archery camp allows kids to gain experience with all the necessary equipment needed to shoot a bow safely and accurately. Camp is FREE for ages 9-18 and will run August 5-9. 9-12 year old’s will be from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 13-18 year old’s from 1 - 4 p.m. Call 895-1779 to sign up.

T

he CDC is proud to partner with South Carolina’s First Steps to offer a comprehensive 4K program that will allow every child to be prepared for success in school starting with kindergarten. The 4 year old stage is a critical window of development during which much of a child’s potential is shaped. By creating a collaborative effort between family, caregivers, and educators during this critical year, a child can arrive at kindergarten prepared with confidence, skills, and knowledge to succeed. In the coming school year, the CDC 4K program is proud to

offer an extended year program allowing students enrolled in 4K to attend for 220 days. This extended program allows for students to retain learned skills and lessons through the “summer slide” when many students regress and are less prepared. As the first military installation in the state granted as a federallylicensed program provider, the CDC 4K is entering its fourth year and has continued to perfect the program for military families. For more information about the 4K program or to register, please call the Shaw CDC at 895-2247.

YOUTH RESILIENCY CAMP Being a military child brings a variety of unique stresses & concerns. At this camp, children 10-18 can learn how to cope with these challenges in a fun environment while interacting with kids experiencing a similar life. This camp is FREE and runs from July 29 - August 2. This camp runs daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Please call Youth Programs at 895-1779 by July 3 to register.
