tourism analyst once said Thailand is a heaven on earth. We have amazing sea, beaches, and coral reefs that are ‘world-class’ but we wastefully sell them off with cheap tour packages and unsustainable tourism. These all sound very depressing but it’s the lesson we must learn to prevent it from happening again in the future. The Andaman Sea is a paradise of gentle breeze, bright sunshine, pristine beaches, sceneries of coconut groves. beautiful islands, unique sea gypsy culture, and wonderful marine lives. SIMILAN MADE ITS NAME FROM CRYSTAL-CLEAR WATER, PRISTINE POWDERY BEACH, AND HIN PAD (ON KOH PAD, AKA 8TH ISLAND), A SAIL-SHAPED ROCK THAT MAKES IT TO EVERY VISITOR’S PHOTO ALBUM. THE ICONIC ROCK STANDS MAJESTICALLY AGAINST THE BLAZING SUN AND COOLING SEA BREEZE AS THE SYMBOL OF SIMILAN.

n Malay language, ‘Similan’ means ‘Nine’ or Nine Archipelago. The archipelago is one of Andaman Sea’s many archipelagos and it consists of 11 islands, including Koh Hu-Yong (Koh Nueng, 1st island), Koh Payang (Koh Song, 2nd island), Koh Payun (Koh Sam, 3rd island), Koh Mieng (Koh See, 4th island), Koh Hah (5th island), Koh Hok (6th island), Koh Payu (Koh Jed, 7th island), Koh Similan (Koh Pad, 8th island), Koh Ba-Ngu (Koh Kao, 9th island), Koh Ta-Chai, and Koh Bon. The Similan National Park office is located on Koh Mieng as the island has its own fresh water source. Similan island, the most famous island, is blessed with magical snorkelling and dive sites where colourful corals and rare marine creatures called home. Here you won’t just get a chance to observe natural sponge, sea flowers, giant clam, and gigantic lobsters, but also

amazing underwater lives like whales, whale sharks, and moray eels. The best time to be here is from November to mid-May because the park will be closed during monsoon season to restore its natural beauty. Besides Similan island, another attractive island in the archipelago that has been gaining more and more popularity is ‘Koh Ta-Chai’. The island recently opened to the public and its reputation has already matched its sister islands with gentle light blue sea and 700 meters long white sand beach. This third largest island in Trang is home to local muslim community that has been fishing, rubber farming and coconut farming on the island for generations. To experience this amazing natural wonder, you have to swim through the small 80 meters cave which opens up to a hidden paradise lagoon in the middle, and you’ll believe heaven is real. Although there is a long list of places to dive, Koh Mah (Horse island because it’s shaped like a horse head) is considered to be the best diving spot of Trang Islands. The sea is painted with red, orange, purple, yellow, pink, and any colour you could think of, soft corals and fishes, including the fascinating feather starfish. Koh Mah doesn’t have a beach and it may look like a big piece of rock sticking out of the sea, but its real treasure is underwater! However, the best snorkelling spot is the shallow between Koh Mah and Koh Chuek which requires a rope to assist visitors – hence the name Koh Chuek. Saving the best for last, ‘Koh Kra-darn’ boasts the best white sand beach and emerald water in Trang Islands. From here you could see all the sister islands in the background of Koh Kra-darn’s breathtaking views. Explore the underwater treasures or just relax on the soft sand beach and stare into the vast blue sea. There are state-owned and private accommodations to choose from on the island, and to get the most out of this beautiful nature, the island hosts the annual underwater wedding where couples from around the world tie the knot amidst the colourful corals and fishes. EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK

ur journey starts on March 1st, 2017, flying out of Phuket at 7.20am via a short stopover in Bangkok and through on to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Because we booked five months ahead, our flights cost 13000 baht return per person. We arrived in Kathmandu about 4 pm because the flight was slightly delayed and arrived at the hotel at 5pm. After checking in, we went shopping for some supplies we needed for our trek. We chose to stay in the Thamel area of Kathmandu as it is a commercial neighbourhood with many markets. It’s easy to find what we need for a cheap price and it has many international foods available, including Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Italian and other European cuisines. The Kathmandu time zone is 1 hour behind Thailand’s, and one Thai baht is worth about 3 Nepalese rupees.

我们的旅程从3月1日开始，早上7.20从普吉飞往曼谷，然后转机前往加德满都。我们5个月订好的机票，来回往返的机票大约在13000铢。由于航班的晚点，我们到达加德满都已经是 16.00了，到达酒店已经是当地时间17.00。在办理好入住手续后，我们还要急忙出去购买登山杖、厚手套、登山用品等等。我们选择住在泰米尔区是因为这里有我们需要的东西。这里吃的东西也很方便，有泰式、中式、日式、意式和欧式任您选。加德满都比泰国时间慢一个小时，汇率在1泰铢=3尼泊尔卢比。

DAY 2 – KATHMANDU TO PHAKDING (2,652 METRES) Today we are heading to Tribhuvan International Airport to fly to Tenzing–Hillary Airport, named after the first people to climb Mount Everest. This airport, also known as Lukla Airport, is the most dangerous airport in the world. After landing, we take a 10-minute walk to the Lukla township. Following lunch with our guide we trek about 7 kilometres to Phakding town and do some sightseeing and relaxing. 今天我们从特里布万国际机场乘坐飞机前往卢卡拉机场。这个机场是为了纪念登上珠穆朗玛峰第一人而用他的名字命名的。飞机降落后，机场到小镇大约10分钟的路程。到了后，向导让我们先吃午饭，稍作休整，然后前往7公里外的Phakding (海拔 2,652米)。

DAY 4

DAY 3 PHAKDING (2,652 METRES) TO NAMCHE BAZAAR (3,440 METRES) After we trek for about 6 kilometres, we break for a meal in the early afternoon, then continue trekking up the mountain for another 4 kilometres. It is cold, with no sunshine, and after we arrive at Namche at about 5.30pn we go straight to our accommodation. 第三天从Phakding (2,652米)到 Namche Bazaar (3,440米) 在走完前半段的6公里，我们吃过午饭，稍作休息就开始上路，天气很冷，路上也没有阳光。我们到达Namche Bazaar 已经是17.30了。

– ACCLIMATISATION DAY

Today is a rest day in Namche to allow our bodies to adjust to being at such a height above sea-level and help us cope with Acute Mountain Sickness by taking medication and drinking lots of water. Our guide takes us to the Sherpa Museum, and from the museum we can see to the top of Mount Everest and the statue honouring Tenzing Norgay here. Namche is the largest township in the Sagarmatha National Park.

第四天适应日; 今天我们在这里稍作休息，以适应这里的环境。因为这里的空气稀薄，害怕得上急性高山病，为了预防我们提前服用了Diamox ，并且多喝水。慢慢的行走让我们的身体适应这里的环境。所以向导今天带我们去了Sherpa 博物馆。在这里我们可以清楚的看到珠穆朗玛峰，Namche也是Sagarmatha国家森林公园里最大的村庄。

DAY 7 PANGBUCHE (3,958 METRES) TO DINGBUCHE (4,930 METRES) At 10.50am, we start walking again from Pangbuche to go to Dingbuche village, a distance of about 6.5 kilometres. We have an enjoyable trek with magnificent views, including watching the locals use the mountain waters for cooking. 第七天Pangbuche (3,958 米) 到 Dingbuche (4,930 米) 今天我们10.50从营地出发，开始Pangbuche 到Dingbuche行程，今天的路程大约 6.5公里。一路上美丽的景色一直呈现的眼前。还见识了如何用山上的水来做饭。

DAY 6 EVER GREEN LODGE TO TENGBUCHE (3,867 METRES) Today we start walking at 10.30am to get to Tengbuche before lunchtime. Our friend who had the accident can walk a bit better, but the pace is still slow. We arrive at Tengbuche, with it’s beautiful view, at about 1.45pm and we spend some time resting after lunch before continuing to Pangbuche to make up for lost time. We arrive at 6pm.

DAY 5 NAMCHE BAZAAR (3,440 METRES) – TENGBUCHE (3,867 METRES) We plan to trek the 9 kilometres journey from Namche Bazaar to Tengbuche in about 5 or 6 hours, and see the domestic cattle known as the yak. We enjoy this walk for a few hours, but have to stop over at Ever Green Lodge, about halfway between Namche and Tengbuche, because one of our friends has an accident resulting in an injured ankle. The night temperature is very cold, as Ever Green Lodge is close to the mountain stream. 第五天从 Namche Bazaar (3,440米) 到 Tengbuche 3,867 米今天计划的路程大约9公里，用时大约 5-6个小时。路途中我们见到了不少的牦牛群。虽然路上还算顺利，但是走到一半时，我们的队友的脚扭伤了，我们不得不停下来，在 Ever Green Lodge休息一晚。这里位于Namche 和Tengbuche之间，由于营地挨着河岸，所以到了晚上特别的冷。 46 l 24 LIFE M a g a z i n e

今天我们10.30从营地出发，计划在中午前赶到Tengbuche。昨天受伤的朋友，伤势也有所好转。但是整个路程行走的还是比较慢。我们到达Tengbuche已经是下午1.45。这里风景特别漂亮。在这里我们吃过午饭，稍作休息后决定继续前往Pangbuche，以弥补昨天拉下来的行程，到达Pangbuche 已经是晚上18.00了。

DAY 8 DINGBUCHE (4,930 METRES) TO LOBUCHE (4,950 METRES). We originally plan to stay one more night in Dingbuche, to help with our acclimatisation, but decide to keep going in order to get back to our original schedule. The distance is about 9 kilometres and we start walking at about 9.30am. We arrive at Dughla at lunchtime. Because our guide fears that we might not make Lobuche by night-time, due to our friend’s illness and the snowfalls today, we stay here for the night. 第八天Dingbuche (4,930 米) 到 Lobuche (4,950 米) 原本我们今天是要在Dingbuche休息一天，让我们的身体适应这里稀薄的空气。因为我们中途的延误，所以今天我们决定继续前进。从Dingbuche到Lobuche大约9公里，我们9.30出发到Dughla大约是中午。吃过午饭后，由于朋友身体状况，向导告诉我们今天到不了Lobuche，这时还下起了小雪，所以我们就在这里留宿一晚。

DAY 9 DUGHLA TO LOBUCHE (4950 METRES) We leave Dughla at 10am and enjoy the views, including crossing a small glacier and seeing water flowing under the very thick ice. We arrive at Lobuche at 1.30pm. 第九天Dughla 前往 Lobuche (4,950 米) 我们10点从Dughla出发，一路上慢慢前行，欣赏两边美丽的景色，山顶被积雪覆盖，还有穿越结了冰的湖面，但是下面的水还是在流动。到达Lobuche 已经是13.30了。

DAY 10 LOBUCHE (4950 METRES) TO GORAK SHEP (5170 METRES) Our day’s trekking starts at 8.40am so that we have time to go up Kala Pattar mountain

SUMMARY OF EBC TREK - EVEREST BASE CAMP (5380 M) This trek to the highest mountain in the world starts from the township of Lukla and goes through to the township of Gorak Shep and on to the famous Everest Base Camp. ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT INCLUDES: Hiking boots, thermal undergarments, warm shirts, fleece-lined jacket and pants, wind-breaker jacket, warm headgear and broad-brimmed hat, warm gloves, thick scarf, protective sunglasses. Many items can be purchased at Kathmandu or Namche Bazaar.

DAY 12 GORAK SHEP (5,170 METRES) TO BASE CAMP (5,364 METRES) – SECOND ATTEMPT in the afternoon, but after arriving at Gorak Shep at 11am we did not go on to Kala Pattar due to the snowstorms. 第十天 Lobuche (4,950 米) 前往 Gorak Shep (5,170 米) 今天出发的比较早，8.40我们就从营地开始出发，想在下午的时候去Kala pattar。我们到达Gorak Shep大约11.00，由于天气的原因我们不得不在这里等待。

DAY 11 GORAK SHEP (5170 METRES) TO BASE CAMP (5364 METRES) Today we plan to go to the Base Camp, but the storms have not stopped yet. Our guide suggested that we wait, but eventually we couldn’t wait anymore and so we made our way to Kala Pattar mountain in the late afternoon. We went halfway up the mountain and were able to see Mount Everest, and then went back to Gorak Shep. 第十一天Gorak Shep (5,170 米)前往 Base Camp (5,364 米) 本来今天是要前往Base Camp，但是雪一直在下，向导建议我们停在原地。最后还是安奈不住在17.20冒着风雪前往了 Kalapattar，走了不远我们就看见了珠穆朗玛峰的峰顶，但是Kalapattar山顶则被风雪笼罩，所以就原路返回营地休息。

Finally, we wake up today to the beautiful blue sky and our goal is trekking to Base Camp. We get there about 11 am and after talking with other trekkers and looking around, we head to the accommodation. We hope to return to Kathmandu by rescue helicopter because of our friend’s injury and lack of time to be able to trek back down. The rescue helicopter couldn’t make it because of severe weather, so we stay overnight at Base Camp. 第十二天 Gorak Shep (5,170 米)前往 Base Camp (5,364 米) 第二次早上起来天气晴朗，没有一点云雾。我们继续前行，最终在11点我们到达了Base Camp。再和其他登山者商量后，加上朋友的身体的问题，我们决定乘坐直升机回去，但是当天由于天气原因直升机也没能按计划来接我们，只能在上面在住一晚。

DAY 13 Today we go back to Kathmandu by Rescue Chopper. We arrive at Kathmandu at 11.40am. Then it’s straight to hospital for a medical check of our health and fitness. And finally, our trek is completed. 第十三天从 Gorak Shep (5,170 米) 前往 Kathmandu 今天乘坐直升飞机返回Kathmandu比较顺利， 11.40 就到了Kathmandu。然后我们前去医院做了体检。我们的登山旅程就结束了
