在過往二十年光輝的星途上，樂天積極的Coco李玟彷彿從未身處過低潮。她開懷真摯的笑 聲，感染著身邊的每個人，令人驚嘆的是這位一直活在眾人豔羨目光之下的巨星，至今仍 保存著表演者應有的初心。時至今日，經過多年的拼博與奮鬥之後，她也展開了人生中全 新的一頁，從「心」再次出發。 Ever the optimist, Coco Lee never seems to appear jaded from all the fame and glory she has achieved from 20 successful years in the entertainment business. Jovially filling the room with her infectious laughter, sometimes it is hard to tell that this bubbly personality belongs to a seasoned professional with a portfolio that many dream of having. Nevertheless, having gone through the riches of her ambitions and experiences from her younger days, the Coco we know today is settled in with a refreshed perspective - doing things that matters to the heart.

As a young hopeful with big dreams, she emerged runner up for Hong Kong TVB Singing Contest in 1993, and the rest was history. She went on to accomplish many first for a Chinese artist, notably her performances of Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s theme song at the Oscars in 2001. With the ever-changing landscape of the music industry, neither awards nor record sales are of her priority anymore. While music is still her first love, Coco has diverted a bit more of her energy these days to giving back to society. “It’s more about feeling what I do, and have passion for what I do. Besides music, I do a lot of charity stuff with the Hong Kong Cancer Fund. It’s about giving back. When you have passion for what you do, everything comes from the heart. You feel good and happy doing it, and in return you can see yourself affect people the same way.”

In recent years, there seems to be a parallel with the jobs that Coco has taken - from being a judge or mentor on singing competitions such as Super Idol (the first-ever joint television venture between Korea and China), The Voice of China and Chinese Idol, to playing a teacher in the the summer-released Chinese film Gardenia in Blossom. When asked whether all her recent jobs of being a mentor was a deliberate move, she denies and instead acknowledges it as a natural progression. Gushing with pride, Coco proclaims how proud she was watching the contestants grow and improve in their performance and technique, while many moved on to be big stars. “What’s really incredible is when I was a new artist performing in shows, I would often encounter singers I idolize and would go up to them to tell them how much their music meant to me. And now, the opposite is happening to me - it feels great to know that I’m influencing them in a positive way and to be able to be their mentor, I can give them good advice with what to do with their careers.” As for her latest acting role as a teacher, it was the director, China’s TV personality He Jiong, who insisted that the role had to be Coco’s after watching her judge on the singing competition. With qualities of compassion and passion, Coco’s role was simply art imitating life.

One would usually worry about coming back into unfamiliar territories under the helms of a newbie director. Coco, however, took on the new challenge with gusto. “I never get jaded. For me, I get excited about everything and I treat every single project as the most important thing in my life.” Just like expressing out lyrics through her voice, acting taps on similar emotions in storytelling which Coco feels passionate about and hopes to explore more in the future. Family life is also a key factor that has kept Coco positively sprightly, and also courageous enough to take on new opportunities. Her eyes twinkle when she talked about her blissful marriage to her husband Bruce Rockowitz, and her latest addition to the family - their newly adopted Golden Retriever puppy named Tuli. “We’re lucky to have each other and we bring out the best in each other. It’s wonderful to have a husband who is supportive and proud of what I do. I feel very blessed.”
