Coming from a nation where triple-threat celebrities are being manufactured on a massive scale as part of the Korean Wave phenomena, it is hard to humanize such a sensationalised pop culture. Furthermore, to be ranked second in Mode Lifestyle Magazine World’s 100 Most Beautiful Woman in 2014 ahead of international heavyweights like Adriana Lima and Angelina Jolie, this cover girl seemed otherworldly. Nevertheless, Clara broke down these barriers when we spent time with her and proved to us that she’s just a girl with big dreams and aspirations too.

Even though she had started out in the entertainment industry since 2005, Clara was still relatively unknown until that very moment when she made the ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game in Seoul wearing a figure hugging white leggings. Right there and then, Clara’s star power skyrocketed overnight and she instantly became an in-demand sex symbol, appearing in numerous fashion photoshoots and commercials. When asked whether such reputation has become a boon or bane to her career path, Clara appeared optimistic and also wary about the situation. “ I do believe it’s good to have recognition as a healthy sex symbol. I have always admired models of Victoria’s Secrets. My focus has always been on inner health and I work hard to keep fit.” It’s definitely no easy work maintaining such figure - apart from diligently sticking to a healthy nutrition program, Clara trains five times a week and has recently picked martial arts as well.

Born in Switzerland, educated in the United States and holding a British citizenship, one would think that such individual may have some sense of displacement. Nonetheless, Clara proudly acknowledges her Korean roots and sees this unique identity as an opportunity to showcase her talents worldwide. “My father was the leader of the Korean Band ‘Koreana’. The band spent much of their career travelling around the world performing in places like Madison Square Garden. I would love to be like him and hopefully make him really proud.” Not only has her international upbringing taught her to be independent and self-reliant, it has also taught her to never stop learning. For starters, she has recently started picking up Mandarin.

From a young age, Clara adored the camera and spotlight. Barely at the age of 30, she has endeavoured aplenty in her career - from films, television, music, books and fashion. After appearing in a leading role in the Korean film Casa Amor: Exclusive for Ladies earlier this year, Clara now sets her sights on something even bigger - Hollywood. Just last year, she had a little taste of Hollywood when Marvel Comic’s creator Stan Lee made a cameo appearance in her Gwiyomi music video. Citing leading ladies Zhang Ziyi and Maggie Cheung as her role models, she hopes to transition into more poignant yet empowering female roles exemplified by these ladies. Through her public trials and tribulations experienced over the past few years, Clara is undeterred and willing to work harder more than ever. “It’s really important to have a positive mindset and always learn to love yourself. I am always confident and looking forward to new challenges ahead.” she proclaimed. With such unwavering motivation, we’re not surprise if we ever see her appear in a Hollywood movie in the near future.
