Donor Cards By Rachael and Grace Make the greatest possible act of generosity by giving a gift of life. Why carry a donor card? Organ failure is a devastating event in the lives of people. It occurs without regard for either age or circumstances. Parents, children, the old or the young, may be asked to face this challenge. For many, organ donation can be the means to regain normal life. There are around 590 people in Ireland waiting for an organ transplant.
One deceased organ donor can save up to 8 lives. What is organ donation? Organ donation takes healthy tissues and organs from one person so they can be transplanted into another person, replacing their organs that are not healthy. The organs that are suitable to donate are the heart, kidneys, lungs, liver and pancreas. Why is this important to our class? Grace is in 2R and is currently waiting for a heart transplant.
