john maeda How art, technology and design inform creative leaders John Maeda, former President of the Rhode Island School of Design, delivers a funny and charming talk that spans a lifetime of work in art, design and technology, concluding with a picture of creative leadership in the future. In his fascinating career as a programmer and an artist, he’s always been committed to blurring the lines between the two disciplines. “Maeda’s vision finds its purest expression in his open-source infrastructure for creativity on the Web--a kind of Linux for art tools--in which the browser becomes a global hub for editing, annotating, and sharing digital media.” — Fast Company good at math and art

collision theory Collide is the theme for Year Two, so lets consider the definition for Collision Theory – In a chemical reaction, the reactant particles can only react with each other when they bump into one another. According to collision theory when molecules collide, bonds between their atoms can break, and then new bonds can form to make new molecules. Using Collision Theory as a metaphor for creative practice – We need to consider our role in the 21st Century, understand culture and communication in modern society, take many different perspectives, approaches, practices, play with mediums, mix the disciplines, collaborate with others.

idea 1

An idea for this ‘A Conversation’ is how people are having a conversation with how media and news are portraying different religions and ethnicity. i have heard alot of conversation between people how people are complaining that media are not showing the viewers what they are supposed to and from a few poeple incident it is portrayed as an whole. Religions & ethnicity christianity, islam, judaism, sikhism, buddhism, hinduism, athiest past reports and articles have shown that news channels can represent that a group of people can be named as a whole religion or ethnic. for e.g. when there is an act of terrorism news channels straight away report it as a muslim religion who did the act, due to the fact that the terrorist are dressed as an muslim culture. extremism is not acts of any religion, which i would like to show to the media, news channels and to the public that extremism cannot be based on one religion or any relgion.

idea 2

Tennis - it is now standard at the major tennis tournaments for a line review system to be in place, with players given power to review contentious line calls. It is powered by the Hawk-Eye ball tracking system.

One of my idea is the collision between technology and sport and how technology in sport can be an advantage aswell as an disadvantage. I could narrow my research down to one sport and see how using technolgy could affect the way the game is played.

Football - football is looking at joining the 21st century, looking at various technologies for the goal line to determine if the pass passes over the line or not. however it has not been placed yet as the system is not yet ready due to some faulty errors.

As others have noted, live stats are created manually. Opta (who provides stats for example for Sky, as well as for their excellent smart phone application) has people logging the events as the match happens.

Basketball - the NBA uses replay vision to review 'last touch' decisions in the final two minutes of games, and also to determine whether players release the ball before the shot clock expires.

The other big player in the field, Prozone, uses a camera system consisting of 8-12 cameras to keep track of the player movement and other things. They still use manual logging to get individual actions assigned to right players and manage situations where the cameras cannot quite stay up to speed, but their system calculates passing distances, player speeds, and creates a lot of derivative statistics based on the manual logging.

Cricket - technology in cricket has been driven by advances in the TV coverage. Things that were once extra information provided by the TV networks are now being incorporated into the decision referral system, such as hawk-eye and hot spot (used to show the review whether the bat has hit the ball), and the snick-o-meter, which is a sensitive microhphone located in one of the stumps. Baseball - In 2014 a challenge system was put in place for the MLB to use replays to challenge certain umpiring decisions.

E-SPORTS Esports is a term for organized multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players. The most common video game genres associated with electronic sports are real-time strategy, fighting, first-person shooter, and multiplayer online battle arena. however this is not the category i will be focusing on as this is more about video gaming than actual physical sports.

Rugby Union - In 2015, Hawkeye technology was used by rugby officials at the 2015 Rugby World Cup. The technology was used to improve decision-making by the television match official (TMO) and also used by medical staff to assist with player safety by identifying possible concussion instances and behind play incidents. Rugby League - The NRL was an early implementer of using the video referee to help adjudicate questionable tries.

idea 3 My 3rd idea is how people have ‘A conversation’ about war being a major problem and fleeing refugees to different coutries, due to the fact there country being bombarded by other countries. Rwanda, Somalia, Angola, Sudan, Liberia, syria, palestine and Burundi are among those countries that have recently suffered serious armed conflict. War has caused untold economic and social damage to the countries of Africa. Food production is impossible in conflict areas, and famine often results.

TID 1421

AADAM LAMBAT

TID 1421

Situation in syria More than 250,000 Syrians have lost their lives in four-and-a-half years of armed conflict, which began with anti-government protests before escalating into a full-scale civil war. More than 11 million others have been forced from their homes as forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and those opposed to his rule battle each other - as well as jihadist militants from Islamic State. This is the story of the civil war so far,

What is the message? my 3rd idea is about how war have created a disaster for refugees , talk about that i have narrowed it down to syria and what syrain refugees are in what state are which country they have fleed to.

IDEA 3

AADAM LAMBAT

Technology in football

TID 1421

from my second idea i have narrowed it down to the collision between technology in football as myself is more fond of this sport and take part in.

Goal line technology?

what is the message?

The following four criteria is desired for a successful goal-line system: - THE TECHNOLOGY SHOULD ONLY APPLY TO GOAL-LINE DECISIONS. - THE SYSTEM MUST BE 100 PER CENT ACCURATE. - THE SIGNAL SENT TO THE REFEREE MUST BE INSTANTANEOUS. - THE SIGNAL IS ONLY COMMUNICATED TO THE MATCH OFFICIALS.

how can technology improve football as a game play aswell as it being an disadvantage on how it would affect the nature of it. furthemore i would research how it is already in use.

goal line technology in football, particularly as there are numerous examples where the TV reply has been able to show wrong decisions by the referee, where a ball has or has not passed over the goal line, and the goal was given or not given.

how is technology used in football? football has a use of technology in when statistics are calulated for e.g. posession, number of tackles, passes etc.

Terrorism has no religion

TID 1421

We are at a time when offensiveness, violence and hate have become ordinary in almost every corner of the world. There is news of more bloodshed from a different region almost every day, and the violence targets mostly innocent people.

story of a christian man and an ISIS extremist Once An ISIS member stopped the car of a christian couple, and asked them if they are Muslim or not? The Christian man: I’m Muslim ISIS member: If you are a Muslim then recite a verse of Quran Christian man recited a verse from Bible ISIS member: Yeah! that was right, you are allowed to go. “What a risk u took! why did u tell him that we are Muslims? if he knew you are telling lie he would kill both of us” asked the wife when they got further. “Do not worry! if they knew Quran they would not kill innocents” Answered the Husband. ISIS is not Islam, terrorism has no religion

"I am French, Muslim and against terrorism," said a banner carried by the members of French Muslim community during the Unity March in Paris.

what is the message? The messgae for this idea is to show that terrorism and killing the innocent is not an act of any religion and desonstarte that only extremist who do these extreme acts of danger.

Idea 2 design TECHNOLOGY IN FOOTBALL Goal Line Technology

Pros Correct Decisions Visual pleasure and confirmation for the spectators The results are more accurate If the game is of most importance, then Goal line technology should not matter.

“Brings football to the Modern era”

Calculating Statistics

Cons The installation of six cameras on each side of the goal will mean the installation costs will be high. Consider the costs if this were to be ensured for all football matches around the globe. Although, the system is capable of simulating the ball's trajectory within 1 second, it would actually eat up a lot of time when shown on replays. It requires the ball to be at least 25% visible, or else we have to rely on the referee's judgement like old times.
